The wait staff were available for questions and suggestions, and we each ordered a main course of pasta - the Bolognese and seasonal pumpkin ravioli - with their suggested wine pairings. You should always order pasta when it's in the establishment's name! I appreciate their selection of local and domestic wines, although they also have an extensive imported wine list if your budget is generous. We were both very satisfied with our meals, and the portions were large enough that we had leftovers to bring home. My husband wasn't feeling great so I took the kiddos on an evening date night with mama! We walked around downtown and then came here. It looked fancy, and I def stood out as a person of color amongst the other restaurant patrons. He asked if I wanted anything other than water, by the time I was done saying no water is okay he had left...I was getting ready to order. About 5 min later he comes back, and shares they are busy and I should order...I was like umm okay. I ordered butter pasta for my daughter and my son wanted chicken fingers. I got the eggplant Parmesan for myself (and to take to my husband). Over the eggplant was good, the fries and kids pasta were flavorless. I had to flag someone down for salt. Our waiter didn't checking on us once. But he did come and bring us boxes as I was eating which was quite uncomfortable. I ended up packing up the food because it seemed like he was in a rush to get us out. He also forgot to return my CC to me so I had to flag him down and he had to go search for my card. The kids meal comes with a drink and dessert. I had to specifically ask for the drink and the dessert is not friendly for those who have allergies and he said he had nothing else. We have been going to this restaurant for many years. Unfortunately we will not be returning. The food is actually rather good but the service and overall ambiance is absolutely terrible. This is based on numerous times the staff has been amazingly rude and unfriendly. Our latest and definitely last time there we ordered a pizza and salad to share and ice teas. The waiter visibly and loudly scoffed at this - acting as if we were wasting his time. Given that a very big part of dinning out is the service - it is truly remarkable and very unfortunate that we were made to feel so unwelcome. Pastas is a quiet old-school standard that doesn't try to be anything other than a reliable comfort-food Italian restaurant with a small bar that serves excellent cocktails to locals who know. After living in Pleasanton for over 20 years, I've rediscovered Pastas, and I'm delighted! The minute you walk in, you are greeted by the smells and sights of a cozy neighborhood "osteria" (Google it). My favorites are: the classic Caesar salad, the minestrone, eggplant parmigiana, and the mushroom and thyme pizza. Or post a final seating time so customers don't show up and get turned away. After calling and speaking to the manager, the manager stated that they close at 9 PM. Excellent lunch on our my first time visit. Met a friend in the middle of our two towns which ended us up on Main Street in Pleasanton downtown. Decided on lunch at what ended up a wonderful choice, Pastas Trattoria. Apparently there for the last 24 years. The decor is very clean and classy traditional. There is a small bar area to the left of the entrance. To the right a lot of indoor seating with linen tablecloths and nice place settings. There is outdoor seating available when the weather permits (which is often). My friend ordered the Fried Calamari and Lobster and Clam Bisque. The calamari was enjoyable but she fell in love with the Bisque. I liked the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp (4 of them). LOVED the Bolognese Pasta with large flat noodles. The unique sauce was one of the more delicious I have had. Never rush, we go just the right attention from the staff. Dinner on a work trip. Typically an amazing and fun experience. Not really this time. Had a bite of burrata and a bite of mussels as appetizers. They were both good. Ordered the Penne Alla Vodka (yummy - salmon!) because red meat kind of triggers my gout. Got the Penne a la Louisiana. Sausage. And I hate broccoli. The server kind of did the "are you SURE you want me to take this back to the kitchen" attitude, indicating I should just eat it. So I did. Coworkers got a 3-course fixe prixe dinner that included dessert. The dessert looked less than impressive. Next time the vendor wants to take me here, I will go pay for my own dinner somewhere else - other than the appetizers, this wasn't even really worth a free meal. Made a dinner reservation here for our anniversary. Ambience is nice - outside seating as well as inside. There's a bar upfront that is appealing and the staff is friendly. Our waiter was attentive and took care of us and even gave us a complimentary dessert. The issues we had were unfortunately with the food. They had some specials which I ordered from - the peach salad. Presentation was nice, but there wasn't much peach to it and more arugula than anything. We ordered the calamari to start, and it seems like it could've used more frying time as it was a bit rubbery and not as crunchy. My husband ordered the seafood special. He says the clams and other seafood was good, but they put crab on top, which seemed not as fresh and was cold and he didn't care for the sauce as well aa he thought maybe it was from a can and didn't have much garlic or flavor to it. When they offered shredded Parmesan, it was also not fresh as it seemed maybe from Costco like they have in the big tubs? I ordered the butternut squash ravioli, and in fact, this is the reason I made the reservation here as I hadn't had this dish in a long time . It was good, but I wish it was a bit warmer. It seemed kind of lukewarm when I was eating it, The complementary bread was good and fresh however, I'm not a big fan of a bunch of garlic and oil on the plate. It could've used more balsamic and less pieces of garlic that were visibly seen. Not sure if we'd return but we're willing to give them another try maybe for a lunch meal. Drinks empty for 20 mins plus and no correspondence with the server to say 'we're a little slow tonight, please bear with us'. Then dinner arrived and the $55 crab stuffed shrimp was weak at best.
