We visited Neschmarkt for the first time tonight, and I have to say we absolutely loved everything, from the wine to the main course and dessert! I ordered the Jager Schnitzel for my entrée, and it was incredibly delicious and full of flavor. For dessert, I had the Apple Strudel, and it was absolutely amazing. Every bite brought back wonderful memories of my time in Vienna, Austria. I'm so happy to have found such an authentic and outstanding Austrian restaurant so close to home. This is a new restaurant in Pleasanton . The first one was in Campbell since 2011. The menu is extensive with many choices : from appetizer to main dishes , soups and salad , all the way to desserts . The Austria European cuisines are amazing . Ambience was great with the elegant decoration and jazz music . Great customer service . Wine and bar are great. The bar has many good red and white wines , European beers and many interesting cocktails . Their coffee menu is extensive , so many choices . The main dishes we tried were Hungarian beef goulash . Slow cooking beef shoulder in paprika served with herbed spatzle , sour cream and Fresno chilies . Also love the pork blade chop . The mushroom gravy was so delicious. It was cooked with honey mustard glaze and savory cabbage . I grew up in an international city with a lot of European cuisines. This brought back memories and activated all my taste buds . The cocktails are interesting. I like the blackberry bramble and crime of passion . Would like to try something new next time . Coffee menu looked amazing . We did not try this time . Having been to the Naschmarkt Campbell location a few times, though its been years ago.. was happy to have a closer location to visit in Pleasanton! The ambiance is lovely and the staff were attentive. The prices seem a bit on the higher side but the portion sizes make up for it. Started with a bowl of each soup, the Chilled Cucumber & Avocado and the Garlic soup. They split the bowls for two people which was nice we didn't even ask. Both were tasty and unique! Followed by the Spätzle with Smoked Chicken and their special of the day which was a confit pork knuckle. The pork was topped with a light gravy and was served with red cabbage and some more spätzle. Visited Naschmarkt on a weekday and had a really great experience! The food was delicious and so perfectly seasoned and the service staff were incredibly kind and attentive to our group. Then we ordered dinner and the portions were huge (which is good given the price!). We got several desserts, the best one was the apple strudel. Found this place on Yelp since i was traveling and orders it to go. After a long day of meetings. i just wanted a great dinner and go back to hotel. Upon entering was greeted by the owner/manager and he took my order for one of their barrel old fashioned drinks, this drink was spectacular, I ordered the wiener schnitzel (pork) and a side of spaetzle. The restaurant was nicely decorated, and the menu featured what I believe is Austrian cuisine, which closely resembles German food. We ordered the sausage trio, and it was delicious. Each sausage was full of flavor and paired with its own vegetables, which made the dish feel well thought out. The double-cooked pork was phenomenal as well. Finally got to try this place and it did not disappoint. Everything from food to service to ambiance was top notch. Got seated quickly and our servers were super attentive. Helped recommend us food, gave bread, refilled bread and just mainly kept track of us. Food wise, we ordered their sausage trio with potato salad for the appetizer. For my entree, I had the jager schnitzel and my husband had the roulade. We then split the spatzle that came with my entree. For the sausages, they were all cooked well and tasted really good. The spicy sausage is spicy but just under the heat that a hot link would have. The other two sausages were flavorful too. Sauerkraut generally isn't my thing, but my husband loves that. I tried a bit of it and I will say it's the best sauerkraut I've had. Or at least one I can eat. The potato salad is basic but still good. Now the main entree was on a whole different level. The jager schnitzel was DELICIOUS. Mushroom sauce is my favorite. It's almost the same base of what I love in mushroom soup. The schnitzel was cooked well. I like the non fried version honestly. Spatzle was really good. A bit heavy from the butter I think but it's still a solid dish. I tasted the roulade and while it was good, it wasn't my thing. Service: Amazing! Top notch service from Rene, the GM. I wasn't sure about their garlic soup and he not only brought out some sampler of the garlic soup but also a sampler of the sweet potato soup which he loves and recommended. He was right! The sweet potato soup was really delicious, sweet with creamy texture but was surprisingly light and airy on the palate. Doesn't give any feeling of richness that comes with soup of that creaminess texture. Definitely caught me off guard. Also nice ambiance with smooth jazz music in the background. Tavern fries - love it. Huge cut, yet crispy. Love the truffle with aioli dipping sauce. Not much hint of truffle in the sauce though (disclaimer: I love strong truffle taste). The drinks: We ordered Stieglitz Lager beer and the Groebe Riesling. Love Australian beer (so clean, crisp and refreshing) and the German Riesling brought back memories of my first true German Riesling experience over 30years ago! For my next visit, I would like to try their Radlers (lemonade+beer) - several flavor options to choose eg Stiegl Raspberry Radler. Apparently it's a really good popular drink too. As for entree we had the beef goulash and tagliatelle pasta. They were great, right tenderness, authentic sauce, nicely braised and delicious. We also ordered their homemade pretzel which comes with beer cheese sauce and bacon bits, chives. The pretzels were nice, fresh and fluffy. Sauce was great too. I took a trip in September to Germany and Budapest and came home craving the flavors and my experience at dinner did not disappoint. My party of 4 enjoyed 4 delicious dishes which included: spaetzle with meatballs , Hungarian goulash, garlic soup, homemade pretzel and the veal classic Wiener schnitzel. EVERYTHING was delicious. The goulash was tender and cooked perfectly. Sometimes these dishes can be overcooked but they served it just perfectly. We all tasted each others mains as we wanted to share the amazing flavors. We also enjoyed some beautiful German wines which were a great complement to our meal. The plan was to enjoy a few happy hour items, drinks, an entree, and maybe dessert. What happened instead was we ended up ordering every HH item on the menu and all the dessert courses. Lol The standout for appetizers was the spring roll. Filling was French brie, veggies, and an apricot chili sauce. The sliders were the next best thing with sausage, sauerkraut, caramelized onions between Hawaiian roll was delicious. The side of fries were better than the tavern fries. The pretzel was just okay, the tavern fries were maybe too crispy for my liking. I probably wouldn't order the other items again. All the desserts were delicious. You can't go wrong with a chocolate lava cake, or a souffle, and an apple strudel. The only photo missing is of the apple strudel. I believe it came with ice cream too. Rating this an honest 3 stars because we ended up only ordering from the HH menu and desserts. I can say that the entrees sounded amazing but we never got to that point. My Radler was amazing though. We decided to try this fairly new restaurant to downtown Pleasanton for our son's birthday because it served Schnitzel, a dish we had tried on our only trip to Frankfurt, Germany almost 10 years ago and while this restaurant is Austrian, the menu looked similar to the one we had first seen in Frankfurt. I have been to downtown Pleasanton many times but never to Naschmarkt. It was great to finally try it! Service here was super friendly and the restaurant has a nice ambiance. We went on a random weekday for lunch and it was hopping inside but we sat outside on the patio because the weather was nice. The patio is a great option if you would like to enjoy the scenery or chitchat with passersby. The menu has some good variety so we ordered a bunch of different dishes to try. Top two for me were the sausage trio and weiner schnitzel. The sausage was very good, there was one that was a bit spicy and tasted like an herby hot link, the brat was solid and the other sausage (maybe paprika?) was also very flavorful. As for the schnitzel, it was seasoned nicely and not too greasy. Overall, we had a good experience, but one downside was the main dishes took a long time to come, like maybe 30 minutes or more. The caramelized onions also gave it slightly sweet flavor. There were small pieces of meatball in it, which was tasty. For the entree, I opted for the pork Wiener schnitzel. You can choose pork cutlet or the veal cutlet (more expensive). The waiter did say that the veal is more popular, but I tried the pork. It had a light breading and was fairly large and cooked well. Wanted a place that took reservations and food would be good for my family and kids. This place met the requirements! RESERVATIONS: Made them a day beforehand for 7 and it was easy, got the spot I wanted. PARKING: Parked in the lot behind the restaurant, which is near the bank and behind Elia. WIENER SCHNITZEL (PORK) - it comes with two pieces. that are perfectly fried and thin, it also has a side of ligonberry jam, lemon slices and then another side of soft cold potato "salad" with dill. The pork was tender, crispy and the kids loved it. Potato salad was interesting and refreshing. SPAETZLE - got it as a side for the kids and I called it "mac n cheese" and they liked it. It didn't have that much flavor, was more buttery/mild and the "pasta" is pretty soft so don't think it's al dente. PRETZEL - got the pretzel appetizer for the kids and they loved it too, the cheese dipping sauce was tasty. the pretzel is bready and with salt on top. My mom got the hungarian goulash and said it was very good as well. No kids menu but they did have cups (plastic) with straws and a lid. First, the service was the worst experience we have had a a pricey restaurant. Water was not kept full, or even close. I ran out of water twice, had to ask for a refill, and in the end had to take from my partner. We were the 2nd table to be seated at 11:50am and it took a full 15 minutes to even order. The food was bland and dry. The schnitzel was over cooked and bland. The beef goulash was bland, except for the meat pieces, and even the spätzle was just ok. The pretzel was the best part of the meal and was just an appetizer. Only one pretzel, though, but if I were to go back it would only be for that. The waiter seemed to be pushing drinks, but it was lunch and I needed to drive a long way. Maybe service is better if you get their drinks? The chocolate cake was dry and bland...couldn't really taste chocolate or the jam. Presentation was nice and made us really hopeful, but the flavors are nothing like Austria as I know it. We couldn't resist Jager Schnitzel, and I chose the Braised Sauerkraut side. My Hubby chose Braised Red Cabbage side. When the food arrived I was momentarily transported to Europe. Some of my favorites are the classic Wiener schnitzel, Jager Schnitzel, Kase Spatzle and you cannot skip on the Apfel Strudel or their drinks. We decided to check out this newer restaurant in downtown Pleasanton after a friend recommended it and other Yelp reviewers have overall given very positive reviews. We were hopeful to try something new with Austrian cuisine... but, we were left underwhelmed. On a Friday evening, we made advanced reservations, only to find that it was not needed given there was plenty of seating remaining on the patio as well as more than enough seating inside. We were quickly seated and offered to dying in the patio. The Ambiance is nice with the modern interior and quaint outdoor setup. We were instantaneously served with ice water and bread at the table. So far so good. Our waiter attended to us not long after and we placed our order for one classic pork weiner schnitzel and one chicken pot pie. Our food did not take long to come and they were all neatly plated. I definitely was not expecting to see that in fact an authentic wiener schnitzel is pressed meat that is breaded and deep fried. I find it quite amusing that my understanding of a Wienerschnitzel has been formed by the fast food hot dog chain. But in fact this would have been my first introduction to the very classic dish from Austria. This dish was served with a side of potatoes and squash in some sort of dill sauce. I definitely was not a fan of the sauce. So it remained mostly untouched. Now on to our other dish which was chicken pot pie. We were definitely intrigued what would chicken pot pie at an Austrian restaurant be like. It came with a ring of phyllo crust sitting atop the chicken pot pie filling that was quite sparse in ingredients. Maybe it's my ignorance, but it definitely was not what I was expecting giving my understanding has been shaped by my past experiences with the classic American Marie Callender's. So while the food was underwhelming and definitely overpriced averaging around $40 and entree, service was also subpar. Our waters were not filled without our efforts to grab the staff's attention; and even when they did come to fill up my glass, they did not fill up my husband's.
