Came on a Sunday afternoon (before 3p) Ordered - Cabbage - Greens - Yams - Mac and Cheese 2x - Cornbread (got the center piece ) - Catfish Dinner - Lemonade - 7up Cake Overall not impressed, used salt and pepper on everything except yams and catfish. The young lady that took the order was dry and lacked friendliness she didn't even ask my husband the sides he wanted with the catfish dinner. Vegetables were under seasoned. Had a solid meal at this place on a Saturday afternoon. First off service was amazing, met 2 lovely ladies that took our order at the front and gave their recs on what to get. Very friendly and inviting staff. (4/5 for service). Atmosphere was also nice when we came in since there wasn't a lot of people there yet, but when more people came it did get busy and packed, so keep in mind if you come around 1-2pm. Now the food: - The gumbo was tasty and packed with flavor but the cornbread could've been a bit moister. - friend had the shrimp creole and liked it as well, could have more sauce though. - The mac and cheese was pretty decent, good flavor and the yams were good as well. - The collard greens were flavorful too, just a bit salty for my liking. Black owned restaurants! My Academy class chose Cherie's for our 25 year reunion this past Friday. What a great decision we met there ordered and we're seated. It was great seeing the fellow and I had the catfish. One of us had appetizers like chicken, wings, and fries. Somebody else had the catfish and then other partner had the oxtails and although I enjoyed the catfish fried Excellent I mean it was not too oily not salty and just crispy and I enjoyed it with the collard greens and the sweet potatoes. I have been wanting to try this place out. I'm glad I did! I ordered to go I had to try the oxtail with rice and gravy. It was really good. So was the corn bread. Will definitely order again! Also, tried the catfish with the greens and the candy yams that wasDelicious! My family and I agreed the fried chicken was not what we expected,it wasn't crunchy on the outside and a bit salty. But the Mac and cheese was on point. We will definitely be back to dine in hopefully the first Sunday of the month when they have a the Sunday special, the gumbo and definitely try their dessert. Southern cooking restaurants are rare around here, so I wish I could like this place better than I do. Best thing about it is the friendly counter service. Worse thing is that there's no light on the outside sign, so it's difficult to find this place at night in the gigantic shopping center where it's located. Not that they're open very far into the evening anyway. There are a couple specials, like gumbo, on the menu, but it's a very small menu. Basically for mains you've got a choice of chicken or catfish. The catfish, 3 small fillets, was adequately cooked, but rather dry with too crusty a coating. Yesterday (Saturday, 4/18), my friends and I decided to have an early dinner and try Cheri's. When we walked in, the cashier wasn't very welcoming and didn't greet us. When I went to order, she seemed bothered and acted like she didn't want to be there. One of my friend's meals came out quickly, but the rest of us had to wait an additional 15-20 minutes. While we were waiting, we realized we hadn't received our drinks, so my friend asked about them. The cashier said with a slight attitude, "Oh, I'll bring them out," and then brought them a few minutes later. Our food arrived shortly after. I ordered the Southern fried chicken plate with candied yams and a honey butter cornbread muffin. The chicken and yams were good, but the cornbread was too dry. OMG, I'm writing this after already having been here twice! Once by myself and the 2nd time I brought a friend! Fried catfish and smothered oxtails with greens and yams! On point,the brown butter cornbread was awesome! Forgot to take pictures of the catfish but will do next time! I did also have the peach cobbler...I prefer a flaky crust over a doughy cobbler...not a reflection of their cobbler, more about my preference. Flavor was good, just not my preference. This place has been bookmarked for a while and I finally had a chance to try it. Came here on a Sunday at 1 and it was BUSY. There were a lot of ppl when I got there and more ppl were coming throughout the whole time I was there. They have about 15-20 tables inside and only 2-3 were available. They also have a few tables outside. You order at the counter before sitting down and at times the line was almost out the door. I was debating over the oxtails or gumbo and decided to go for gumbo and a side of collard greens. It took about 30 mins for the food to come out. Not sure if that's usual or just because it was busy. But given the fact that it was busy, I could understand why it took a long time so I wasn't tripping. The gumbo was good, but the soup base was a little too thick for me and it wasn't enough rice at the bottom so I had to keep digging for some. But it was a good amount of shrimp & sausage, and good size crab leg, and the portion was big. The collard greens were good. Okay so first thing is, incompletely walked by the place, TWICE! I wish they had a bigger sign and unfrosted windows BUT that was where most of my complaints ended. The inside is small but still spacious. There's about 15 tables and you can push them together or take them apart if necessary. You order before sitting down and then they will bring your food to your table. They will not give you a number but they do call your name though, so make sure you're listening. I was going to get the oxtails, but they did not come With any side and with a $32 price tag, I was not willing to buy sides extra. So I settled for the fried chicken plate with macaroni and cheese and greens. The Mac was okay, I wish the cheese was more cheesy and the Mac was more together but it still had great flavor. The greens with the turkey meat were really good. Also loved the corn bread. Ordered a side just because. The pound cake was smackin. This review is long overdue. My family loves the food at Cherie's!!!! My personal favorite are the ox tails. They are so tender and flavorful. The accompanying rice and gravy is super delish too. Great sides are the mac n cheese and the greens. They also give good portions and the service is top tier. I used them to cater a private party for us back in March. I am so glad that I came here with my friends. I saw a story on Instagram on how a son convinced his mother to start her kitchen. Because her food was so good and he was right. The location is easy to get to. It's right off of 580 in the Hacienda Crossing area by the movie. Theater, there's plenty of parking, but keep in mind that the traffic gets heavy during commute hours. I had the gumbo, and my friend had Mac and cheese with the catfish and greens. We both enjoyed our meals. The bowl of gumbo was huge enough for two people. The only con I could say about this is that I miss old-fashioned taking orders sitting at the table and having your food brought to you. This is cafeteria style, which was not a problem. Wow this place is legit and they seem to make everything from scratch and the fried chicken is made fresh when you order, it's not sitting under a heatlamp for a long time. The fried chicken was crisp, tender and perfectly cooked. Even better they have Crystal hot sauce on every table. Ok, chicken was A+, how about the sides? One disappointment was they were already out of mac and cheese and candied yams and it was only 6:30 on a Saturday night. But the collard greens with healthy smoked turkey was fantastic. The food was good and largely makes up for a lacking atmosphere. Cherie's is pretty casual, no frills spot with minimal decor and casual service. You order at the counter and food is brought to your table. I was a little concerned when I walked in, as the place seemed a bit understaffed and several tables were uncleared in the dining room. I ordered the fried chicken plate with one wing, one leg, and one thigh with a side of mac & cheese and collard greens. My concerns were largely alleviated once food came out. It took a while, but I'm willing to wait for freshly made food. The food was simple. Seasoned pretty basically. It all had a homemade quality to it. And perhaps most importantly, it was made with care and executed well. The chicken was lightly battered with a crispy outside and a juicy, hot inside. The cornbread was simple but moist and satisfying. The collard greens were nicely balanced. The mac and cheese was perhaps the weakest, being pretty oily and not being very saucy, but for reheated mac and cheese, it was still somewhat satisfying. I ate everything on my plate eagerly which counts for something. I like that the menu is fairly limited and focused. I like that the food is well executed and simple and tastes like home cooking. If they improved the atmosphere a bit (not having a dirty trash can in the dining room behind one of the chairs, not using plastic utensils, clearing tables more regularly, etc.) I think it would have been an even better experience. Nice atmosphere as well, and I love that it's easy to get to in the Hacienda Crossing shopping center. I can't wait to order my favorite again: catfish plate with collards and mac-and-cheese. Their fried chicken is delicious too (salty and crispy, like it should be) but we were surprised that the wings and drummettes (that we got with the kids meal) were even better and more moist than the legs and thighs! The cornbread is sweet and delicious, and great for dessert. Like most southern places in the area, this food is made from scratch and made to order, so be sure to order your takeout at least 30 minutes before you plan to pickup. You order at the counter and the staff bring the food to the table along with your drinks. We ordered the oxtails, super tender, came with rice and gravy, which you can taste all of the love poured into making the gravy, fried chicken, macaroni, and cheese, which was good creamy cheesy, the greens were tender and fresh definitely not out of a can. The yams were so delicious, all it needed was pie crust for a great pie, cornbread came with your entrée, well made and not too sweet, topped off my meal with the lemonade. Being from the South, I'm always on the hunt for good Southern cooking which can be a little challenging to find in the Bay Area. So I was pleased to stop by Cherie's late after work on a Friday night to try out their cuisine. We were warmly greeted at this casual dining spot which was clean and pretty bright inside. We tied their fried catfish which had a cornmeal coating and not greasy. It came with 3 pieces of fish which was tender and flavorful, and we topped it with Crystal hot sauce and packaged tartar sauce. We chose to go with collard greens which were excellent and not oversalted, along with delicious candied yams. We also dove into a big bowl of seafood and chicken gumbo which was tasty and mildly spiced. It was full of crab, sausage, shrimp and chicken. We just wish there was a little more rice to soak up the delicious broth. In addition, the warm cornbread was great with the right level of sweetness for our tastes. I gotta write another review for Cherie's because she catered a work event for us this week and the food was on point! We got fried chicken, fried fish, collard greens, yams, mac and cheese, peach cobbler, and sock it to me cake. I enjoyed everything, but I kept coming back for the mac and cheese because it was just next level. Not only was it cheesy, it was also creamy and savory and so comforting. Those of us who had been to Cherie's before felt like it tasted even better than the last time we had it. Maybe there has been a recipe update? When I tell you the food was good, I mean it was so good that we had folks taking food to go in whatever containers they could find - water thermoses, lunchboxes, the cake box, the pans that the food came in, two plates taped together, whatever. Oh my goodness where to start food was fresh the chicken was so good makes you want to slap the person you are with greatness. Crispy crunchy full of flavor the sides were outstanding. I'm not a Big Mac and cheese person but their Mac is so delicious. Mac salad mouth watering all in all the best southern food place I have been to in a long time. In addition to the eat in people, there were quite a few take out orders. One good thing they should do is tell you the chicken is cooked to order, and that it could take 20-25 mins. They didn't tell us big I'd heard the counter staff telling another customer. So, a bit of a wait for lunch. The two of us split a 3 piece dried chicken plate with green beans and candied yams. Wow! The chicken brought me back to my childhood, with my mom making hers. Perfectly crunchy, and perfectly done inside. Great taste too. The sides were also very reminiscent of homemade, in a good way. OMG!!! I spotted Ms Cherie and her son Bryce last month on Mornings on 2 (channel 2 News) They were introducing their southern style food to the public. The food is so delectable and satisfying. The food needs no salt no peppers no nothing but a bottle of hot sauce. Oh, I forgot, also a Hardy appetite, and don't forget the napkins. The oxtails are to die for and the greens are so nice and tender and smoky. The establishment is very clean very well lit and just beautiful decor. The service was great and very, very friendly. My daughter even asked if they could build a small hotel next-door so you can go and relax after eating. LOL!! I must say that was the very best lunch that I've had in a long long time. First time!! I usually drive to Oakland for my go to southern style. I was excited to find that dublin had this cute place. I came around 6:00pm. It was crowded. A lot of empty dirty tables. Good sign that it's delicious! It was going to be a half hour or more wait for the catfish So I just grabbed some sides. To taste. Im picky about my greens and Mac!! Now TBH the greens a little salty and a tad burnt but I smashed em! Mac and yams killed it! I'll be a regular for sure!! Excited to taste all that they offer. Second time at Cherie's, my guy wanted to go back for his birthday dinner, since our first visit was quite deliriously memorable. Like two kids on Christmas Eve, the anticipation of a fabulous meal was 45 min away! Off we went, we arrived and there was a party of 20+ finishing up and several tables were occupied. We ordered at the counter, one oxtail dinner with 2 sides & cornbread muffin (not a muffin, but a square slice), one fried chicken dinner (3 wings) w/ mac n cheese & collards and the cornbread , one red koolaid & one bottled (1.50) water as they only have sweet beverages with diet coke as the only non sugar option, $85 w/tip. I was assuming 3 full wings, then realized I kinda wanted a thigh, went back up and asked to change my order to two wings and a thigh, nope, not possible. So, the menu board said add a thigh, wing or leg for $2.50, I opted for that, however, the cashier asked another worker how much for a thigh and I was told $4.50. When I mentioned that your menu board clearly says $2.50, she replied that's for a leg. I said well, that's not what your board says. I didnt want to argue or hold up the line, so I reluctantly paid the $4.50. After some time, they brought my guys koolaid, no water. When we asked about the bottle of water, she said, oh, I'm sorry, we don't have bottled water and she brought a cup of tap water. So, was charged $1.50 for tap water. When our food finally arrived, I had some very fried, (a bit over fried) crunchy chicken wing pieces, not whole wings, oxtails were tender, mac n cheese was good, yams were good but the collards tasted off, disappointing as they are our favorite. The most offputting thing was, with a dining room full of customers eating dinner, a worker pushed a full garbage can full of trash, thru the dining room and out the front door, right past the full tables... Plastic silverware, no refills offered. Sad to say, we probably won't be making the 45 min drive again anytime soon. Wanted so much to love this restaurant as there aren't many good southern/soul food options around. The menu board needs to be updated, they no longer make the Smoked Barbecue Beef Brisket Plate, but it's still up there, just get some chalk and cross it out or something! Also I noticed this time, they have Louisiana brand hot sauce on the tables along with the Crystal hot sauce. Nice touch... The Louisiana has a little bit more heat than Crystal. This time we ordered: Shrimp Creole (4 stars $23) They give a good amount of tailless peeled shrimp, cooked perfect, served with sauces over steamed rice. The sauce is really good, love the hint of the butter. If they want to elevate to 5 Stars, I think a green onion garnish would be great. Carmel Cake (3 stars $6) The cake was a little dry, but the Carmel filling and frosting was really good. Baked beans (3 stars $5) Nothing special it was ok. Has the right amount of sweetness and the texture was creamy. Arnold Palmer (3 Stars Large $3.75 Small $2.75) They only have sweet tea so it was a little too sweet, but if you like sweet tea, the you'll like this one. The lemonade seems to be standard stuff. Cherie’s Southern Kitchen - Fried chicken combo plate with Mac and cheese and a side salad - Southern Near Me - Dublin, California

I had heard many good reviews of Cherie's Southern Kitchen so I dropped by while in the area. I ordered a fried chicken plate with collard greens and candied yams. My food was delicious. Five stars for the fried chicken and yams. The collard greens were good though I prefer collards prepared with ham. No complaints since the greens were listed cooked with turkey. The service was great - welcoming and courteous. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. I would have sat down to enjoy my meal if I had the time. Holy wow! This review is based on my work catering for an employee who is retiring. I found out about this spot about a month ago and made a note to try it soon. Well today was the day and let me say food is absolutely fantastic. As soon as I walked into the kitchen at work I could smell the food especially the barbecue sauce. Options were brisket, three different types of chicken wings, Mac and cheese, cornbread, salad which the green was a great option. Southern lemonade and tea. I barely put pressure from my fork to the brisket and broke away so easily and quick. Brisket was dang good. Each chicken option was fantastic and cooked perfect. The Mac & cheese was hands down best I've ever had by far. Collard greens this was only my 2nd time ever having and was very good. But the cornbread wow. Wish I had more and a glass of milk with a spoon. Cornbread was perfect like it use to be when I was a kid. I mixed the Lemonade and tea together and I need this in my house. I will be taking the family here soon to experience in person. I beyond highly recommend this spot or your missing out on one of the better restaurants in Dublin and the general area! read more
