I really enjoyed coming here for some wine. They have a cute upstairs area with a bar where you can do wine flights, or order glasses of wine, beer, or cider. I was in town and looking for a place to have a couple glasses of wine. I actually found a different shop first (located in Dublin), but when I called and asked if they do tastings or if it's possible to buy something from the retail shop to open in-store, they were quite wishy-washy about it and I didn't feel like driving there only to be turned away. Instead, I headed for TWS and glad I did. I first looked around the shop to see what they carried. Most of the wines I looked at were between $30-60, so a very affordable price point if you're looking for a bottle of wine to have at home or to give away as a gift. The floor staff were very kind and checked in with me to see if I needed assistance. Given the price point, the white Burgundy was quite limited - mostly Macon and areas that are still affordable. I did notice they had a Rare Wines section, but I didn't have the chance to poke around in there. Something for next time :) Even though it's limited, I really love seeing some representation for southern hemisphere wines, like those from South Africa, Chile, Argentina, NZ, AU, etc. The floor is very well laid out and quite easy to navigate and find specific regions. I know it's a pain, but the one thing that would make the experience even better is to make the inventory browsable from their website. I find it to be a lot faster using search/filters than simply browsing around the floor. I also really love that they have a LOT of their champagnes and white wines chilled on the back wall so they're ready to go if you're heading to a party or dinner, or if you just want to open something to drink upstairs at the wine bar. A lot of shops will have only a very limited selection of service-ready wines. Upstairs, you'll find the wine bar. It's a nice space that can accommodate probably 20-25 people comfortably. The bar has seating for 10-12. When I stopped in, they were doing Easter-themed wines - a flight of whites and a flight of reds. The flights were 5 wines each and I believe there were 6 whites, 6 reds, a rose option, and a sparkling option - so a decent BTG selection. The BTG prices are pretty standard, so the wholesale price of the bottle is roughly the BTG price. BTG ranged from $15-20. The wine bar does have some limited food options, but not enough to make a full meal - burrata, cheese plates, charcuterie plates, almonds, olives, etc. Overall, this is a nice shop and it was a fun place to enjoy a couple glasses of wine. There is a ton of street parking and many surface lots, so parking in the area is quite accessible. Whether you're looking for a bottle to take home (or give away) or just want to enjoy a glass, this is a great place to check out. read more

My wife and I were both in town for work and we stumbled across this little gem. The staff is super friendly, their tasting flight delicious, and the snacks are just right to enjoy with a glass of wine. When I was looking through the wines they recommended a delicious boutique cab (Quixotic, from Madison Vineyards) which turned out to be A-mazing! I will come back to ask for a recommendation. The scene: You walk along a relatively quiet downtown street in an idyllic small town, where are you run into this building that houses a purveyor of fine foods and wines. As you walk in, you are greeted with the smells of various items you can use on a charcuterie board, as well as some of the friendliest folks that you have ever come across. I seriously felt like I was in some sort of movie or something. I didn't spend too much time in there, but you had a variety of delicious looking cheeses and cured meats. Along with an assortment of different types of baked goods. It's a pretty big space, and the food only takes a small piece of it. The rest of the store is filled with different wines from different countries. Oh also, there is the stair case to the second floor towards the back... There's a space upstairs where you will start being able to buy flights of wines and/or have a beer on tap. Is a very cool looking bar area and possible event space. Would love to stop by for a beer the next time I'm back in the area. But definitely a cool shop. It's hard to find places like these days. read more

What a wonderful place! I went to an event here (a revue of Chateauneuf du Pape)- and it was such an outstanding evening. I enjoyed every minute of it. I know very little about French wines so I've increased my knowledge a ton just by going to this one event! And I loved the wines! We have traveled in Spain, Portugal and Italy, and are more familiar with their wines and I wasn't sure I would like French wines- but I do! Not only were they delicious, but they were reasonably priced. Before the tasting I shopped a bit in the store- there are some wonderful treats in the store, as well as a kick ass selection of ciders- which I am going to buy for my husband's xmas present, and a roomful of great looking hard liquor, including some gins I have not seen before. I am going to make sure to stop by often and check this place out. The people here are passionate about wine (as am I) so it's a beautiful place to be. I can't wait to go back! Also, just let me say I've never met such a helpful host. He actually wrote me to ask if the person who signed up right after me was supposed to be at my table for a tasting- and she was, since it was my friend. I didn't realize there would be assigned seating for the tastings -which is fabulous! I LOVE knowing I have a seat already and there's no game of musical chairs to look forward to. The tastings are lovingly set up- spit bucket, water, bread plate (there is bread included) and you can also order a cheeseboard- which will be there waiting for you. I recommend the cheese board highly! I can't remember the last time I tasted 16 wines in one evening- it's been a while, but it was so much fun! read more

No corkage fee for $25+ bottles purchased downstairs to be enjoyed upstairs; this would have been a better choice for us as we spent much much more than that on 4 glasses of wine. Actually our first glass was $20 each... Atmosphere - Relaxing, as I guess we were the only day drinkers in this area, LOL. Had the whole place to ourselves; except the vendors that kept coming in to sell more wine to the manager/owner. Huge place. Upstairs bar, downstairs retail space. Bar, table, and lounge seating. I think they had outside seating during the pandemic...? It is gone now. Open 7 days a week, see specific hours via Yelp or website. Street parking. Service - Good. Especially since the bar is closed on Wednesdays. Maybe this would explain why we were the only customers, LOL. Price - Expensive, but expected. Service was exceptional. This was our first time and we can honestly say it won't be our last time. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcome smile. We were free to walk around and just look at all their goodies, cheeses, condiments, glasses, and of course wine. The set up is on point, so much to see and very inviting. Great selection of wines perfectly organized by countries, downstairs, and tasting room (beautiful, super clean and spacious) upstairs. Loved the vibe. I went with a group of Spanish friends and we all liked the amount of Spanish salamis, cheese, chorizos and paella making products you can find there. Pricey, yes, but you don't get those things everywhere. Downtown Pleasanton is so pretty and definitively this wine store is to stop by, even if only to browse what they have in store. Tonight at about 7:15pm I walked upstairs to the wine bar and sat on the end by the stairs. I sat for more than 10 minutes as 3 employees, an older man, young guy with dark hair and a short female all walked past me numerous times without acknowledging me (not that they'd remember, as they ignored me, but I was the guy in the attached photo). Meanwhile the existing customers were being attended to in the expected manner. I rarely have felt as invisible - the employees literally never looked at me. Finally, the female (who was tending to the downstairs wine shop when I entered and said hello at that time) asked if I'd been helped. I said no. She asked what I wanted and I replied, "The pink trio". That was flight of 3 rosé wines off the menu. She soon returned with one glass of rosé and said, "enjoy". She never returned with the other two wines. I looked at the wine menu and thought she may have thought I ordered one glass, but the only thing that would have sounded like "pink trio" was "pink Pegau", something that clearly does not sound like pink trio. I sat for a few more minutes as she tended to whatever she needed to tend to and she never returned. Never touching the glass she served me, I got up and left. Because they never saw me in the first place I'm sure they never noticed I left. The three of them probably looked at that orphaned glass of wine and thought, "hmmm - how did that get there?!? Such a cute use of space! You walk into a wine shop then up the stairs for the wine bar. We had made a reservation and when we arrived there was a sign on the table reserved for us. The service was great-- we walked downstairs and purchased the wine and the next thing we knew a server was bringing everything we needed to us. We ordered cheese to pair with the wine and when we were running low on crackers (but still had cheese left) they offered to bring us additional crackers. The space is a decent size but I think I would come back here with 2-4 people so we could sit in the lounge looking chairs as it did get a little loud on a Saturday night but I will be back! read more

We were not disappointed, the bottom section had, of course, an amazing selection of wines with notations of pairings and occasions they might be good for. There were coolers near the back with beer and chilled wines. The whole shop is beautiful and honestly reminded me of Borders when they were still around (which is a compliment, I miss Borders every day). However, you can't miss going upstairs to their wine lounge. There they have bottles, glasses and curated flights. I didn't get to try the wine unfortunately. There were 4 tables on the sidewalk, 2 of them empty. I was alone with my infant and was immediately (and rudely for what it's worth) told to leave. I am not one to hand out 5 star reviews. I am very particular about my food and even more so with my wine. I've only had excellent experiences with this wine merchant who is an expert on domestic and international wines. Jim is a wealth of knowledge and is humble yet willing to impart his experience when asked. He's not judgmental and respects all palates so fear not when visiting this wine exploratorium. Great Pleasanton feature for a rendezvous and shopping experience. I like to stop by and pick up some of their great Chardonnay selections. The staff is helpful to make recommendations about wineries you don't hear about often. These recommendations are very spot on and it's nice they even break down which wines are great values for the quality. Most of the wine available is not the typical Cabernet you find everywhere in the region. This can be good or bad, if you are seeking those then the selection is limited; However, if you want to try wines from abroad they have quite the choice. Upstairs they have a small tasting area that is quite inviting. The wine tastings are always changing and often include the wine club offerings of the time. There is a couple beers on tap as well which are good, due to less beer drinkers here they don't cycle with the frequency of the wines. If you do find a wine here that you like, it's really nice that you can call and have them put aside or even chilled in the fridge. In the summer this chilling has come in very handy to be able to quickly pop the cork as soon as I get home. Cheeses and other accoutrements are also available, very handy having this establishment downtown. read more

Personal Experiences: After inquiring about a certain varietal, the owner vaguely entertained discussing it with me, with very little education about that varietal. When I was unsatisfied with the little bit that he did share, I asked for a lil more info, to which he refused to continue the conversation. He literally said to me, a paying customer, "gee, you just won't let it go." Unfortunately, I had a second unpleasant experience when I invited a client out to discuss business over wine. Unfortunately, they weren't offering flights on this particular night, which I've never encountered before. There weren't signs posted about the disruption in service, but we could still buy a bottle and enjoy. That's what we did. The client visited the cellar and selected a $400, 19 year old vintage bottle of vino. Sadly, the owner did not educate us on the wine. Rather, he uncorked it, gave us our glasses, and took some for himself (he did ask first, at least - just caught me off guard as slightly greedy). I wish I could say these were the only unpleasant experiences I've had, but it's not. There is a certain, regular air of arrogance and pompous-ness from the owner and some of the staff (must trickle down), but not all of the staff. Seriously, just pass. You can go visit Rocco and Stephanie in Livermore at Swirl, get educated, and NOT feel like a burden, for a waaaaay better, warming, welcoming experience. read more

I am a member here and normally I would say I have a great experience. But today was so different. I brought a friend who has never been and we walked upstairs. The gentleman up there was less than friendly. When we went to the bar, we were super excited and asked him about the reds and whites. instead of helping out on our question, he tossed two menus at us. No word and no smile. We walked to a table where I was trying to explain to her that maybe he was just having a bad day. I went back to place our orders and again no word, no smile. Then I asked him for a charcuterie board. He did a big sigh and brought it to us about 10 minutes later. Again, no word and no smile. I honestly did not eat anything as I was afraid of what he may have done to it. Just an incredibly poor experience. He handed us our receipt and I had to remind him that I was a member so requested the discount. I was almost afraid to remind him. This place is amazing. They have a vast wine selection and the employees are knowledgeable and helpful. My parents have been going here for years and have been in the wine club. Since I moved back to the area, I decided to join the California wine club. It is two selections of reds each month for $40. The value of the two wines are more than 20/each so it's a great value. They procure wines from California Oregon and Washington. There are about 5 club selections you can choose from. If you're looking for some new wines outside of the norm, then this place and club membership Is for you. read more
