Fantastic little family run winery that offers indoor and outdoor tastings and also snack. On the weekend there's a food truck that can serve as a proper lunch. I love that we can bring our picnic blankets and have our kid play under the tree shade. Simply a fantastic way to spend a weekend. The service is always warm and attentive and occasionally they'll hold events like release parties and make your own wine. This is my third harvest wine tour with Aaron and it's always a pleasure and informative. We start out with a rosè or Sparkling Rosè. Aaron the winemaker of eleven years was our tour guide and is a wealth of information. We made our way through the vineyards and stopped at the particular red wine vines and did a tasting and ended with cheese and crackers and tasting their 2019 and 2021 Infrared varietal of Grenache Mouvedre and Syrah. We made a reservation for a large group for the Sunday during the Memorial Day weekend. This winery has a great vibe, they can accommodate big groups, the tables are shaded by trees so it was not too hot. There was a band playing. We didn't do the tasting because there were several people who don't drink in the group. Instead, the alternative they offered was that we could order 1 bottle of wine for every 2 people to drink at the table (or take home if we couldn't drink so much). This worked out well for us. They normally allow outside food but it wasn't allowed that day because there was a Mediterranean food truck coming in. The food truck did not have great food, so I wish we could have got some snacks of our own. The only complaint I have about the winery was that the service was very slow. The staff only needs to bring out bottles (no food) for the table/tasting but they forgot our order once. Even when we reminded them and for the other orders, they took ages to bring out the bottles which doesn't make sense because they literally just need to bring them out to the table. There were 3 servers working and not all the tables were occupied so I'm not sure what the problem was. read more

I have always liked this winery. Usually a good experience and always great wine. We had a horrible experience on our last visit 2weeks ago. We had table service group of 6. The server was so unknowledgeable about the winery- their history and their wines and grapes. She was so slow and unresponsive for keeping us serviced. After a long wait between pours and then to close out our tab and wine purchase and very poor customer facing attitude- and no knowledge at all on their wines- she rang my card for our purchase and a $96.24 charge that was not ours. Watch your credit card charges. I tried to get it resolved- called 3 times to the winery - no return call from anyone at the winery. I disputed the charge w my credit card company. He was very attentive to any empty glass and part way through we were already joking like friends. It was great to return to Fenestra to kickoff their summer concert series on Friday. Every other Friday until October, they will host an evening concert. My hubs and I decided to take a trip to Livermore from Sacramento to go wine tasting and this was stop number 1. I wanted to make sure we could taste so I make a reservation for their first available. We got there right when they opened. We were greeted immediately by the sweetest staff. We chose to sit outside as it was a lovely day with a nice breeze. The views of this area are so pretty and make the perfect photo background. Gayle was pouring for us and she was just wonderful. So personable, funny and easy to talk to. She had no problem taking some photos of us and made our experience the perfect way to start our day. One of my favorite wineries in the Livermore Valley! I've tasted and had memberships at some other wineries but I love how relaxed and chill this one is. The reservations are easy to get, the staff is very friendly, and the seating is very cute and comfortable. It's a small little winery but I wouldn't have it any other way! Too bad it only opens Friday through Sunday. The wine itself is tasty - I'm no wine snob but I dislike when the wine is too tart. Some of the wines here are of a "heavy body" or as a wine noob as myself describes it as stronger and deeper. The whites are all on the sweeter side and are so refreshing! So Fenestra is now doing wine pairings & food tastings with the help of Oyó & Chef Maurice, - they've hit it out of the ballpark! The food was small tastings ranging from a fresh salad done in coconut lime dressing, pulled chicken empanadas, Dungeness crab & scallop cake, braised pork shoulder, lobster fried rice & a guava pudding of sorts - mind you there were sauces & toppings for each serving that brought the dishes together. Let's not forget all the great tasting wines: from when you arrive a Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Albariño, reserve Cabernet Sauvignon & Dolce Francesca, probably missed 1 or 2 - in short this was great fun! Fenestra staff was on it from pouring the wines, changing out glasses & bringing out the food. The event was held in their wine cellar/ bottling area, so causal & easygoing as to ambiance. My only suggestion would be to run the table together; i.e., instead of separating folks out make use longer tables, sit groups together while adding in singles or couples in, brings folks together, allowing for more conversations; just a suggestion. read more

Attended a tasting the first weekend of their Covid reopening. Late review. Made a Reservation & paid for the food pairing since they're required to sell food with the tasting. $50 for my husband and myself. We had our 2 kids with us and brought them their own snacks/drinks. They were organized at check in and tables were nicely spaced out. They were a little slow bringing out the wine and the food. I felt the food was mediocre and 3 very small tapas tasting and the pours were very small. The staff wasn't as friendly as other wineries...they weren't necessarily rude but they were also not as welcoming. My hubby gave me his rose pour so that I could get a good amount to decide if I liked it or not. It was tasty and I ended up having him buy a bottle of Rose on the way out. I do recommend the Rose. We were excited to do this wine tasting since we had never been to Fenestra (we are members of a couple other wineries in Livermore but wanted to give them a chance) but it didn't feel like a good fit. We didn't feel like we got our moneys worth or that relaxing/fun wine tasting experience or that down to earth conversation between staff and guests. read more

Love, love, love this place! We have been coming here for years and never disappoints. Yesterday was especially lovely! They had a really fun band playing and we were able to get a really lovely table out under the trees. This is a great place to bring a picnic and enjoy their delicious wines. We chose to enjoy a bottle of Chardonnay and chill out listening to the band. Once finished we ended up joining the wine club and purchasing a case of their True Red which has long been one of our favorites. On educational and not personable. Came on a Sunday with a group of eight people. We had to use our phones to look at the wine tasting order. The staff didn't bring the bottle of wine to the table and talk about it, the history or or flavors they just dropped off to science beakers out the table and walked away. I had to ask for water. It felt like the staff was just afraid to be around people even though we were outside. This was my very first experience at a winery in Livermore hopefully this will not set the tone. read more

As with other reviewers we also didn't find the people working here very welcoming at all, not once did I see either of the 2 staff smile or even talk us through what we were tasting which I found very odd. My Girlfriend and I sampled 2 of the Reds before we decided they were not for us and moved on. Both of the Wines we tasted were identical and very vinegary, certainly not as high quality as some of the other local Vineyards. The restrooms really are not pleasant either, some little shack that had net curtains covering the glass windows so you could easily see in and they were not well kept either. I went wine tasting in Livermore for the first time this weekend. Fenestra was one of the places I heard about that offers you a ton of tastings - hence, we had to stop by. Once you park, it's a little obscure as to where the tasting room exactly is - it's actually in the back of the main building. When you first step in, there's someone near the entrance that collects your $5 tasting fee. You're then given a glass and you have TWENTY wines to taste from. Taste one or taste them all. I honestly don't think they even care if you went back for a second tasting. It was a bit crowded when we got there, but you didn't have to wait that long to get your pour. I actually ended up trying ALL 20 wines - probably wasn't the best idea, but I was on a roll. They do have a few picnic tables outside the winery. While it wasn't the fanciest winery I've been to, it was still a nice place to enjoy the outdoors and have a glass of wine. Since you don't have a dedicated pourer who has to wait on you, you could take your tastings outside and enjoy some fresh air. Overall, the wine is OK (I'm no wine connoisseur, but the quality was on the lower range), with bottles ranging from $14 to $28. I'll definitely be back next time...for massive amounts of tastings :) read more

There were 4 of us doing a wine tour of the Livermore valley. Fenestra was our first and best stop. Jan walked us through our tasting of many (7) wines. These were all well made and very representative of the varietals from the surrounding AVA. As someone else said, good quality wines without the Napa attitude and price. Tasting fee is waved with the purchase of 2 or more bottles. Delightful place for a picnic lunch. Of all the other wineries we s was by far the best we tried in Livermore. Thanks to Jan and the staff of Fenestra for making us feel so welcome. We will enjoy the magnum of Lot 30 with a nice beef tenderloin. read more

From Michelle our favorite wine hostess, Lorna the manager, Aaron the winemaker and of course Lenny the owner who personally delivered the wines for my daughter's wedding like 10 years ago! Oh and fenestra wines are our go to wines. Tasted their Sangiovese from the barrel today and their petite sirah and decided to get futures of those. Times have changed... I suppose it was challenging to be so popular. When a business booms, it either needs to embrace it and grow or implement rules and regulations to supply the demand. On this visit, we had called in advance to inquire about a group of 10-15 people. When we arrived, we were ushered towards a large check-in line. The check in process took about a half hour and tastings are no longer free at $10. You get to sample exactly 10 and they keep track with stamps. I was disappointed to find out that we couldn't try the Chardonnay, it was for sale by the bottle only. I didn't care for the whites they were sampling, so I focused in on the reds. I tried the affordable red blend and was pleasantly surprised. It had a nice balance of depth, with a smooth finish. It carried hints of black pepper and lay low on tannins. I tried the award winning Merlot and decided the people that awarded it can have it. I was really looking for a red to blow me away and tried two more. As the woman stamped my card, she warned me that I was going to miss out on the sweet wines if I didn't go to the last table. Which was thoughtful but I do not care for Riesling and I wasn't shopping for port. There is a table with wines for members only now, which I don't really get. I'm all for offering events and discounts to members but if you have a good wine, why limit it's access to the public? I was pleased with the Petite Syrah, so I chose a bottle of that and the red blend. They refunded my tasting fee, as I had purchased the two bottle minimum. I was really hoping to find more that I liked. The tasting room is air-conditioned but the restrooms are not. They had a band playing outside and a food vendor on site. Everyone packed up and disappeared promptly at closing time, 5pm on a Saturday. read more

Came on Sunday with a group of eight. Booked a picnic site because we have various dietary needs and preferred to be outside. The website does not let you know that if you pick a picnic option then you will not be allowed to do tasting. You can only buy bottles of wine and that you have to pour them by for yourself. Nobody will discuss the wine with you or give you any information about the wine . You're also not allowed to buy a bottle of the most popular wine if you are sitting at a picnic table. So you pay more to sit at a picnic table, and receive absolutely no service. The wine was great, the service was nonexistent. read more

DESERVES -5 Review. This is my second time at Fenestra Winery and I want to kick myself for even stepping foot in this place again. The staff is so rude. On my first visit, a staff member refused to serve me in my birthday glass. Every other winery I visited that day was more than happy to do so. Upon my second visit, I placed my water bottle on this misplaced barrel that seems to have no significant use. As soon as I placed it down, I noticed a hand written sign that states to not place anything on top of the barrel. About two seconds passed by and I quickly picked up my bottle. Then I heard a staff member complaining to another staff member about my placing my bottle on the barrel. I turned around and apologized and was looked at like I was stupid or ignorant. What?? Tasting room is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12 - 5 p.m. and worth the visit. Walking in you are presented with a Wine Tasting Menu. Not a list but a Menu. There were 8 whites, 11 reds and 3 dessert wines when we visited last weekend. For a total price of $0. Yes, zero!! I loved the tasting room. It's in the back of a barn, in what looks like a storage area, part of the original structure back in the 19th century. I appreciate they put their money into their wine and not into the fancy tasting room. I really enjoyed many of their wines. I enjoyed the feel of the room. I enjoyed the employees. I enjoyed my whole visit. They even give a great discount. 5% off 6-11 bottles, 10% off 1 - 2 cases 15% off 2+ cases. The nice thing, you can mix and match anything you want to make those cases.
