I love small, no-frills spots that focus on doing one thing really well. The Khao Mun Gai (Thai Chicken and Rice) is on point. It's simple, comforting, and flavorful. The sauce is the real star here. Service is quick, portions are just right, and you can be eating within minutes of walking in. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quick, delicious meal that won't break the bank!

First time having this place and it's pretty decent! Coolest part is I was able to get fully stuffed and walk away feeling healthy about it. Chicken is incredibly tender and the standard sauce is bomb. On the negatives, I get the specialize but the other locations have WAY more variety then this one specifically, they really should bump their menu up a little bit at this location as well. Also the Pineapple Habanero sauce is pretty meh, I would avoid that one. But for real, if you want a decently healthy meal with some fun flavor, this is definitely a good spot.

Yum! I've found that all the Roosters & Rice are pretty consistent. Service is quick, food is yummy. I just wanted a side of chicken and they delivered! I'll definitely be coming back for another side of chicken!

Excellent lunch spot in Pleasanton that focuses on their namesake -- chicken. Specifically poached Thai-style chicken and flavored rice. In addition to their tender chicken over rice, they have a tofu option and a riceless option as well, but highly recommend their original chicken over rice with sliced crisp cucumber and a soy sauce-based dipping sauce. Also highly recommend adding in their soft egg option as well as their ginger green onion sauce on the side and crispy chicken skin to mix in with the rice. Service was also friendly and efficient. There are a couple tables to eat in but plenty of takeout volume.

Yum!! Rooster & Rice is one my favorite spots to grab lunch for a quick and healthy bite. I usually get the original and ask for extra sauce on the side because it makes the meal that much better. I get the white and dark meat option, the chicken is always cooked to perfection and not too dry. The broth is soooo good and hits the spot! Service can be a little slow if it's packed, but they usually come out with the food piping hot. Definitely a staple in my lunch routine and I look forward to come back here every single time.

We were in the area and were feeling Asian for lunch. We saw this place pop up on Yelp, so we tried it. It was nice to see that they offer a minimal menu, which removes decision paralysis by keeping the choices simple. You pick your version of how you want your chicken and rice and what kind of chicken meat (breast or thigh), and you also get a small cup of soup with your order. I ordered "The Original," which is chicken breast, mixed vegetables, and rice. All orders are placed in to-go containers. The indoor dining area is relatively small. The food portions don't justify the cost of how much we paid. We can see the cooks steaming more chicken and cutting it, and it's evident that they slice each breast and thigh in half. The chicken is thin and unflavored. They provide a soy dipping sauce they expect you to dunk your chicken in. Each bite was beyond salty because of the soy sauce. The chicken wasn't good by itself. The vegetables weren't seasoned either, and they were too hard. It would have been more edible if they had steamed the vegetables longer to provide a softer texture to match the chicken and rice. The soup was good and likely made from the chicken juices during the steaming process. Maybe the trick is to dump the chicken in the soup to get the chicken flavor. Who knows, we weren't given instructions to do that so I can only assume that not how most people would eat this meals. Honestly, I could make the same food at home at 1/4 of the price, and it would only take me 10 min, about the same length of time it took for us to get our order. We probably won't be back.

This place offers a simple, traditional Thai dish called Khao Man Gai. The chicken is poached served with garlic rice, their specialty sauce, cucumbers, and chicken broth. The chicken is incredibility tender and once dipped with their sauce, it is amazing. I always go with the original - half white meat and dark meat with skin. My favorite of the dish has to be its rice though. Something about it makes me want to take another bite (garlic? chicken oil?) and goes well mixed with the broth. The service is quick, the restaurant itself is fairly small, and you'll get your food within minutes. The ambiance is clean and has self seating. It's a great comforting meal when you need a quick bite for lunch, hungover food, or a simple dinner.

Came here for lunch on a weekday. Ordered the Original. It was ready within 5 minutes! The chicken was moist and not overcooked. The Jasmine Rice was soft and flavorful! The garlic scallion sauce was so good!! I poured it all over my chicken and rice! The cucumbers were light and refreshing! The soup was good too! Everything was so yummy!

Perfect Asian comfort food. I love getting rooster & rice when I want something clean, hearty, and delicious. Their chicken is so tender and the sauces that go on top make it very flavorful. Rice is soft (but not too soft) and is perfectly seasoned. The soup that it comes with is the perfect side dish. Add the crispy chicken skin to make it next level! And ask for their hot sauces.

Who doesn't like chicken and rice? I've tried their other locations in sf And I absolutely love this location, it's on the smaller side but I was pleasantly surprised to find it after I had a wedding dress fitting. It's in a tiny strip mall close to happy lemon I believe. I ordered the regular chicken rice and it came out pretty quickly ! The chicken is still pretty tender and juicy, it comes with breast and thigh meat. The rice is pretty tasty and fragrant, not mushy at all. I love that they give you sauce on the side so that you can dip or pour it over the chicken. I always order an egg too. It's such a delicious and homey dish and it comes together with the broth on the side. It's not too salty and goes great with the chicken rice dish! Total for 1: $19

The Food: Street Food Double: The chutneys were incredibly flavorful, pairing perfectly with the well-cooked chickpeas. The bara pockets were wonderfully soft and delicious. Beef Patties: The pastry was beautifully crisp and savory. The spiced short rib filling was a total delight--it had a nice kick to it without being overly spicy, which I loved. Oxtail Stew: Generous portion size with plenty of chunky meat that literally falls off the bone. It was perfectly marinated in a great blend of spices. Pairing the stew with a side of their coconut rice is highly recommended! Banana Bread Pudding: Having heard so much hype about this, it was just alright for me. It was cooked perfectly and I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet, but it lacked a real wow factor. The Drinks: Red Wine Sangria: Really nice, refreshing, and fruity. Chase The Devil: Fun to try if you want something different, and it has a decent kick, but I would probably skip it next time. The restaurant itself is spacious with plenty of seating. On top of that, the servers are friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. Definitely worth a visit!

My personal favorites were the carrot halwa, mango lassi, and biryani. The only downside was how they handled the naan. Instead of having it at the buffet, they serve it directly to the table. With the rush, it was really hard to get any, we waited almost 20 minutes for our first (and only) basket. It would be much better if naan were available at the buffet or if they circulated it more frequently. On the plus side, they were quick about clearing plates.
