Our server was great so this rating doesn't reflect his customer service. It was the switching of service where this other female server came, at least 3 different people came to our table. The female server was cleaning the table next to us. She appeared to already be in a grumpy mood, no smile when she greeted customers and sat them, just going about hurriedly with tasks. She dropped the cups of drinks onto the floor hitting our feet. My husband's side and shoes were soaked; thankfully it was just water. She chuckled and apologized, it looked as though she was just trying to get through the night and we understand the busyness of the establishment. But overall, the service and ambiance didn't hit standards. So I give this visit a 3.5 rating for the quality of the food. Ok, I usually go to the Stockton location but this time, I was in town so I had curiosity to try the Pleasanton location. I have to say I've been missing out. These drumsticks are freaking HUGE! like almost the size of a turkey leg (I'm exaggerating) but compared to the Stockton location, the drumsticks looks like a deflated chicken wing thing. The flavor to their chicken was super good. I really enjoyed the crispy texture. The fries are also really good. Service- not bad. The waitress was nice. Bulgogi is a food that I just get random cravings for. I was in the area because I had a go-to place nearby that closed down, so I took a little browse on our trusty Yelp app and found Bonchon across the parking lot. I got the bulgogi that comes with white rice ($22), and my husband got the fried rice with bulgogi ($18). Bummed I didn't get the japchae with bulgogi, but definitely a reason I need to return. The soy garlic is a staple and was delicious! I find that the wings have more flavor but the drums are crunchier and have more meat to it. I like the chewiness of the rice cakes in the tteokbokki, paired with the ooey gooey cheese when you pull it. When ordering, as a pescetarian I looked at the menu and there was basically nothing without meat. For those of dietary restrictions, there are no options. After scouring the menu a few times, finally settled upon the shrimp fried rice. It came as a very small portion, probably the size of my hand, for a whopping $17!? It was greasy and over seasoned. We recently visited Bonchon while in the area. Although the food was decent, the service left much to be desired and left a bad taste in our mouths. We had two groups ordering, total of about 6 of us and in total we spent about $100. It was such a nice day that we decided to order To Go as the server taking our order said there was seating available outside by 85 Degrees. While waiting for our food I went outside to check out the space she told us about. It was not seating with tables and chairs, basically patio sofas and low coffee table. With that said, we decided to eat in the restaurant. While waiting for our food our other group had gotten their food and were seated at a table where we all were all seated waiting for our food. They decided to eat indoors with us as well. As they were eating one of the servers told them they couldn't eat inside because we ordered our food to go. I thought I misunderstood so I let her know the seating outdoors did not have chairs and tables. She continued to repeat herself saying because we ordered To Go we had to eat elsewhere. It wasn't like they were packed, and had no tables available and they didn't have people in line waiting to order, it was 2:30pm, well past the lunch hour. I said we would like to change our order for dine in. She said we couldn't do that and again said we had to take our food and eat elsewhere. At his point, I'm super confused and explain to her between our two groups we spent over $100 and wanted to eat indoors. Again, she said we had to eat elsewhere because we ordered "To Go". WTH?! If she gave me a good reason on why we had to eat elsewhere, it wasn't communicated. I'm not sure what I was missing, but was so annoyed that we waited for our food, which took another 10 minutes. In that time our other group had already opened their bags and started eating, but when we got our "To Go" bag we all left. We love the food at Bonchon's and we always try to get there early b/c they get busy later in the afternoon & evening . They will seat you & then take your order . The servers here are nice & efficient. The restaurant is kind of small 16 tables & a bar top but I rarely see anyone ever sit there. We've brought our friends here & they love it as much as we do . We usually order the KFC soy garlic & Korean spicy bbq , bulgogi & Japchae & bulgogi fries , Soju & Terra , the Korean donuts are all made fresh . I haven't been to Bonchon in awhile so I figured let's go there for dinner. It wasn't packed at all on a weekday evening. It's located in the Stoneridge plaza across from the outlets. There are various restaurants (mostly Asian) and lots to choose from! Anyway, we were ready for some Korean fried chicken. Seated right away waiter came by with menus. Decided to try the fried rice plain (didn't add any meat to it) it was quite pleasant with lots of flavor. Size was kind of small but that's okay. Also ordered a 10 piece wings soy garlic. I thought it was too saucy but other than that, it was good. I noticed other tables were ordering the bao buns and tacos. Might have to try that next time. If you love fried chicken, this place is your jam! I found this place by accident and its pretty good! I like the Korean fusion twist and if you ask for spicy it actually lives up to the name. I ordered the boneless with half and half Spicy and soy garlic (delicious) with a side of rice and kimchi. I also got an order of Korean tacos just to ensure that I could try as much as possible. I've always really enjoyed Korean fried chicken and I had high hopes for this spot hearing decent reviews from friends, though I found the food underwhelming and would not come again. We came around 4 pm in the evening and the store was not very busy with only a couple others dining. The service was quick to get us seated and took our order, and the food came out shortly as well. The atmosphere was casual and giving fast food vibes. The three of us ordered the mixed combo of fried chicken and the bibimbap to share, though when the chicken came they told us that it was half soy garlic and half with the hot chili flavor, which we did not order (expected to get the Korean BBQ instead). When I brought this up, the server seemed a bit flustered and said he meant the latter, though when we tried them it was clear from the taste that they've made the wrong order. This aside, the chicken itself wasn't very enjoyable as the chicken was extremely dry and oily on the inside, while the fried layer was brittle and lacking strong flavors. The tendons of the meat were very stringy and the fat of the chicken skin was clumpy as well, which made it a questionable eating experience for me. The bibimbap was very subpar as well and tasted very bland, similar to cafeteria food. Had a great lunch here recently! I've been to several Bonchons before, but this was my first time at this particular location (I had no phone service and was unable to check-in). I ordered the soy garlic drumsticks, and split some pork belly baos and bulgogi fries with my friend. The drumsticks are super flavorful, and have a great texture and glaze to them. The baos and fries were great as well, but the chicken was definitely my favorite part of the meal! This location needs a lot of work, in terms of speed of service. Take out however is ready by the time you arrive. I wish their wings have less sauce (yes some customers love the saucy type). I just wish there can be slightly less, then they can be crispier. Somehow we always like the location in San Mateo, the one in Pleasanton is a hit and miss. Parking can be a struggle on the weekends, as Pacific Pearl parking lot gets crazy. So coming late at night on weekdays maybe a great choice, especially to pick up a pre-order take out. For Korean Wings, I really like Pollo Pollo in Pleasant Hill: next time I am around that area, I must check if they survive after the pandemic. read more
