The listed closing time is not the last order time-it's the actual closing time! We went in at 8:15 p.m., and the posted closing time was 9:00 p.m. Halfway through our dinner, they started wiping the floors, cleaning, and moving chairs around right at 9:00 p.m. There were two other parties in the restaurant who were also trying to finish their meals. It was the worst experience I've had at this restaurant. Don't go unless you have at least 1.5 hours before their closing time. They make a lot of noise and start cleaning in ways that make you feel like they're trying to get you to leave. read more

Service was good for the most part, but a tad slow. We ordered the combo - The Classic (for 2) which comes with your choice of 2 soup bases, 3 meats, 3 sides, 2 noodles or rice, and 1 large assorted veggie platter. For soup bases, we chose Miso and Tom Yum; for meats, we chose 3 beef choices; for for sides, we chose beef tripe, imitation crab, and rice cake; and for noodles or rice, we chose instant noodle and udon. The quality of food was good, but quantity was not - they do not give a lot of food, especially with the sides and noodles. The price point for what we got was definitely expensive for a spot that is not AYCE. A couple workout buddies + kids and I went here for dinner on a Friday night, put our name down on the wait list, and waited for around 20 mins. Absolutely love the single pots here so you can enjoy your own flavor soup/broth to drink and to cook the items you choose. We were seated and everything looked so clean. Ordering was done via QR code and the items accumulate on the order page where if multiple people scan the table QR code, whatever each person adds gets added so don't check out until everything in that around is definitely in. The soups and items came by sooooo quickly. I was impressed! They have a make your own sauce combo and we did that between ordering and getting our stuff. I got a singles combo with tom yum soup base. It was a good amount of food. I chose one of the Wagyu, and the side items I chose were tendon, fish, and if I also chose something else, I forgot. It came with a lot of veggies such as greens and mushroom. Guess I mixed and "created" my sauces right cause they went well with the stuff. We really like mumu hotpot. Their meat is definitely better than those AYCE. We are not a huge eater so we prefer better quality. This place is quite busy, sometimes wait time could be 45 mins to an hour on weekends. No reservations. We put down our name and walk around the plaza while waiting for our seats. Service is always good. The 2 people combo menu comes with 3 trays of meat, veggies and choice of rice and noodles. Sauce is available for your choice. Mumu is one of my favorite hotpot places. It's a little bit more, but the meat selection is beef toro, and they all come with a vegetable tray. I believe the vegetable only tray right off starts around $30 and it goes up from there. But it's always organized in a very nice manner, and you get tongs. Every pot is individual with it inset into the table so there's less likelihood of spilling. You can buy everything a-la-carte, but I would suggest getting one of the packages for 1 or 2 people, and then add-on from there. All of the ingredients seem very fresh, and the sauce bar is very large and gives a lot of selections to create your own crazy concoction for dipping. Generally on the weekend, it's at least a 30 minute wait for a smaller party so be prepared. Service has always been fantastic, and they have implemented a system similar to what you see at the airports these days where you just scan a QR code, and it's tied to your table so you can order and pay directly there without having to flag people down (they are all very nice and friendly if you do happen to need to do that). One of the few places that does the sukiyaki broth, so I would highly recommend that for someone that doesn't really do spicy. All-in-all, it's always a pleasant experience, and one of the my favorite places when it comes to hot pot. read more

If there is a wait, you can add yourself to the Yelp Waitlist on the iPad, then they'll call your name once they're ready. The menu is on a QR code and one person will put it on their phone and order everyone's order from there. I got the tom yum soup, with the New Zealand lamb shoulder meat, and udon noodles. The veggies come on the side already and I also picked shrimp as the other option. Once we ordered it, the food came out within a minute - it was so fast! There is a sauce/condiment bar where you can create your own side dipping sauce. The tom yum soup was really good but I couldn't tell if it was a bit salty but besides that it was really good. The meat was good as well. Service was good - they came to our table a couple of times to refill water. If you don't finish your food, you can get a container and boxes to pack up your food ToGo. I haven't been to Mumu in a long time. I used to go pretty often when I lived in the South Bay, especially when the first location opened in Sunnyvale. I eventually stopped going because the prices kept going up. It used to be much more affordable, and now it's definitely on the higher end. There are a lot of other AYCE hot pot places you can go to for much less, and while the meat quality might not be the same, the price difference is huge. Recently, I went vegetarian, and it's actually hard to find a good value AYCE hot pot spot without ordering meat. I noticed that Mumu offers a single vegetarian combo for $27, which isn't bad at all, so we decided to give it another try. I do wish they offered some kind of meat substitute like seitan or gluten, but that's honestly hard to find at hot pot places in general. I ordered the vegetarian tom yum broth, and the vegetable tray was huge. I still had vegetables left over after eating. Ordering is done through a QR code, which was a little confusing at first. It asks you to pick two vegetable items, so I assumed that was all I was getting. It doesn't clearly explain that you also receive a full vegetable tray in addition to the extra veggies you choose. One thing I really appreciated was that adding a raw egg is only $1, which is much more reasonable compared to other places that charge $2 to $3 per egg. The sauce bar is still awesome, the quality of the food is as good as I remembered, and the service was great and attentive. Overall, I was very satisfied and will definitely come back. We really enjoyed our lunch at Mumu. Dare I say, almost as good as homemade hot pot?! We got there shortly after they opened and there were already a few groups before us. The restaurant is a pretty good size and it filled up, even for a weekday lunch! People truly like this place! The server was cheerful, friendly, and explained everything to us. They checked in a few times, refilling our water glasses and broth (choice of hot water or chicken stock). We ordered the "Classic" 2 person set ($75). 3 meats (1 angus short rib & 2 chuck eye), 3 sides (spam, fish balls with roe, & tendon), 2 noodle or rice (1 house ramen & 1 udon), 1 veggie platter. All of the items were high quality and well cleaned. No growth media left on mushrooms, veggies were properly scrubbed, etc. Check out photos to see how nice and clean everything is! We don't usually like fried tofu or tofu skin, but those items were super fresh and delicious here. They had a good selection of stuff to go with the meats and you can always order more. We really like the chuck eye. It is tender without being super fatty. The tendon was extremely soft and one of our favorites too. We got an extra portion for $7. The House Ramen wasn't like the classic wavy Ramen, but more like a thin noodle. The udon was high quality, the set comes with half of a usual block. Kids really enjoyed these items and we had to order extras ($5 for a whole block of udon). I got an extra Napa cabbage ($6), which was well cleaned and a pretty generous portion. We got one extra soup base for $7. The mushroom soup was DH's favorite. It had a little bit of tanginess, which I'm not sure if I liked, but made it more complex. Little one got miso, which he loved. Me and the tiny one shared a Sukiyaki soup, which is sweet and savory, sorta like Teriyaki flavor. If you're not sure about spiciness level, get a plain soup and add the spice at the toppings station afterwards. The toppings station had many options. You try it out some sesame oil and chili crisp. Crushed garlic also looked really good. Here you can get extra small bowls and soup spoons. The restaurant is casual and kept at a colder temperature than usual, which makes sense given that you're eating hot (and possibly spicy) soup. There was a sports game playing on the TV. We did get seated by the kitchen, so it was a bit hectic with staff constantly rushing behind us. We got the premium set and the meat quality was great. The vegetable platter that came with the set had a nice variety of fresh veggies. We ordered udon noodles but what we got was broken up pieces of frozen noodles that looked only to be half a serving. Other than that we still enjoyed our meal and were both stuffed. Personally I'd choose the Emeryville location over this one just because it's bigger and you're not sharing a table with other guests as much. read more

I took my party of 3 here on a Sunday night at around 5:15/5:30pm. There was already a wait list going and it was quite busy. No problem, we can wait.... however, what is not okay is the sense of urgency and lack of service that the manager and his team had. We waited for over an hour and saw multiple tables empty, waiting to be cleaned. And while, you would think that the staff (which there was quite plenty) would attend to them quickly , clean it up, and get the next party in- that just wasn't the case. Instead, there was 2-3 employees wiping down water glasses very slowly, walking around and looking busy, when in reality they should have a sense of urgency to get the next party in. This went on for over 10 minutes. I had to debate on whether or not to flag someone down and kindly ask them to clean the tables. Many of the guests waiting alongside us were also VERBALLY and VISIBLY upset. There was ZERO sense of urgency and super poor time management. It was bad to the point where I had to go towards the back of the kitchen to find an employee and ask then kindly if they could please attend to the dirty empty tables and get the next parties in as there was no host in the front for a long time.... Furthermore, once we got seated , the food came quickly which is nice, but the service still sucked. Nobody to come fill up waters for the entire time we ate. I had to again, flag someone down to get someone to come fill up our waters. That's not even the end of it.... when we were done. Nobody came to give us our bill and even looked our direction, so once again - I had to flag someone down just to get our bill. Only reason why i'm giving this particular location 2 stars is because of the food. That in itself is good, but seriously the management and team here needs to be retrained and have a sense of urgency. We are very kind, patient, and understanding folks, but this is unacceptable service. The experience and service definitely matters too, not just the food. I've been to the Sunnyvale and San Jose locations many times since we live nearby, so this was my first time trying this location, and it was honestly a disaster. There were only 9 people ahead of us, yet it took over an hour to get seated at around 5:30 pm, which is before the actual dinner rush. The management here needs serious improvement. 3 servers were busy wiping dishes while more than 4-5 tables sat dirty, and a long line of guests waited to be seated. No one was checking the waitlist, so even after tables were cleaned, they stayed empty because no one was paying attention. The food is always good, which is why people line up. We ordered the premium set with three meats and three sides. The meat quality is top tier and one of the main reasons I enjoy coming to this chain. The sides were where things fell short. I usually love fish, but after cooking it, there was a strange taste and smell. It didn't smell like fish at all but more like a chemical or preservative. I didn't smell the raw fish beforehand, but since the meat quality here is usually excellent, I didn't think to question the seafood. The shrimp had less of that chemical smell, but it was still noticeable. The manager handled the situation professionally, but it's still something I want my fellow Yelpers to be aware of. The sauce bar is excellent, clean, and always a 5/5 for me. My personal favorite is the Buttery Spicy soup, which is very spicy. I ran out of water a quarter of the way through eating, but it was incredibly hard to flag down a server. At one point they were filling water glasses for future guests, which feels unnecessary when the current tables are struggling to get any service. Getting the bill at the end was also an ordeal because no one was available to help. Overall, the food is still good, but the service at this location fell way short. Though nothing special to some, the meats are tender, my all time favorite soup (I'm a creature of habit) to get is Tom Yum (savory and sour... my favorite) and I loveeee the veggies on the side it comes with! (though I wish I could sub out some items- I feel like bad for wasting veggies I don't like) Service is quick, you order from a QR code or if you need help, a server can come around and show you a physical menu. They also always asked if you've been here before you're seated which is convenient just in case you may need some help! Place is smaller than other mumu locations, but convenient as it is located right across the outlets where you could go shopping before you fill up your stomach! As for ambiance, it does get pretty crowded on the weekends. Expect to wait around 20-30 minutes during rush hour during the weekends as they only do walk ins and no reservations. I do suggest coming in during lunch time! As a long time mumu fan, though the price is steeper than other hot pot locations, and other tweaks I could suggest such as subbing out vegetables, bigger spaces, etc. all those outweigh how much I truly do enjoy eating here! Whether it's after a shift at work sitting at the bar eating by myself or with friends and loved ones-- mumu is still one of the places I frequent to the most here in the east bay. 04.21.2025 - I love Mumu Hot Pot! This is my third chain location and I'd have to say, it's smaller than the other two locations I frequent in Emeryville and SF. At least this location has easy and free parking! Flavor is the same across all the Mumu's that I've been to. I just love the quality of their meat and the freshness of their veggies. This of course means it's pricier than other hotpot joints. This meal was for 3 people which cost over $250. We ordered 5 additional sides of veggies and 3 additional trays of meat. My favorite is their spicy Szechuan soup base. I've tried their buttery spicy Szechuan base, but it was extremely oily. Their mushroom base was too heavy. Miso base felt too simple. Creamy tomato base has a good balance of acidity and sweetness, and it would be my second favorite soup. The rest, I don't think I'll ever try them because I'm addicted to the spicy Szechuan. Once I'm hooked, I'm hooked! I love that I can order through a QR code. It's super convenient and efficient. You order and pay all through the website. This method also makes it dangerous too because you can just order whatever and however much with a finger tip. Every combo comes with a variety tray of veggies and a choice of carbs. If there's a pre-selected ingredient that I don't favor or are allergic to, I simply ask and request to substitute it with something else, and oftentimes, they are flexible - which I appreciate. I wish that they had more veggie options. I know some items are replaced with seasonal ingredients. Before, they served fresh taro and that's been swapped out for corn. It's highly unlikely that I'll be back to this specific location as I live in the city. But for what it's worth, I'm glad to know that all 3 chains have been consistent. read more

Meat quality was great, vegetables were fresh, and the broth had solid flavor without being heavy or spicy for the sake of it. Mumu always hits the spot. Superior quality to all you can eat places; we always get the for two meals and end up leaving stuffed. The special thing about Mumu is their sauce bar. Not all of the broths are crazy good but their selection of sauces is fantastic so I always end up covering my food in the sauce anyway. I haven't seen another hot pot place offer mushroom sauce! So delicious. You order on your phone and the servers help if it's your first time. The food comes out super fast. They could be a bit more attentive to refilling water though. read more
