Everything was packed securely and thoughtfully -- broth separate, noodles and toppings fresh -- nothing spilled, and it was still hot when we got home. What really stood out to me was the portion size. One of my biggest complaints about pho restaurants in general is that the bowls look huge, but when you dig in, it's mostly broth with very little meat or noodles. That was absolutely not the case here. The portions were generous -- easily double what many other pho places serve. There was a substantial amount of meat, noodles, and toppings, making it feel like a complete and satisfying meal. As for the quality, I would rate the pho above average. The broth had good depth of flavor, the ingredients tasted fresh, and everything came together well. It wasn't just about quantity -- the quality held up too. Overall, well worth coming back. Pho is our go to rainy day food! Wanted to try a new place around our house and this place did not disappoint. Cute interior, great service and food comes out fast and hot. Came on a Saturday around 6 pm on a rainy night, ample parking and many tables available. This parking lot also has a Tesla charger so you can charge while you eat, always a plus! Wifey and I wanted to try a new Vietnamese place so I decided to try this place. We have visited this place twice so it's time for a review. Since it's a pho place, I had to start with their pho - got myself a combination pho. Meats were good and the soup tasted great. My wife had their Bun Bo Hue. Not the best she's had, but she thought it was good enough. The spring rolls were big and we got extra sauce since I was consuming it like it was free lol. The fried rice flour cake was a surprise. Not sure why that caught my wife's attention, but she ordered it and we liked it. I was in a mood for dessert so got myself a Che Thai and it was good. Not as good as Bambu, but hit the spot. I was satisfied. The second time we visited, I had the rice plate with pork chop, shrimp and egg cake. Pretty darn good as I gobbled up everything in sight. We ordered egg rolls and they were beautifully presented. My wife had their short ribs pho and she said it was above average. This place is not cheap compared to other pho places, but the portion is bigger and quality is better than most pho places. I guess that justifies for the higher prices. We will definitely go back! I thought it was just okay. I was pretty excited to try this place and it was underwhelming for me. Service was a little slow despite not that many customers dining. Ordered the spring rolls, chicken wings, and short rib pho both large and regular. I love a good pho spot and this wasn't it. Spring rolls were stuffed with shrimp, sliced pork and green lettuce. This was probably the best thing I had there. The chicken wings were over fried and hard to eat. The pho was missing the depth in the broth. It was missing a lot of flavor and felt basic. After a marathon day of shopping at the outlets, my pho cravings kicked in hard -- and this spot totally hit the mark! We came here because of the rave Yelp reviews, and wow... they weren't lying. We were at the outlet and decided to stop by after a craving for pho came. They're located in the plaza directly next to the outlet. The first thing I noticed when coming in was how HUGE this restaurant was. Tons of parking available and it wasn't too busy during the Sunday evening we visited. I wasn't the biiiggest fan of the food; though, I'm probably spoiled by the pho spots that I go to in the South Bay lol. I felt like the broth was lacking, the meat quality was okay. I also tried their com tam / rice plate dishes, and I felt like the size of it did not justify the price. First time trying Bun Rieu and it was delicious! It's more on the fishy side of course, but it's just what I wanted! Very flavorful and the smallest size is pretty big! (Portions are pretty big). They also have vegetarian options and other appetizers in the menu! read more

House Special Combo Rice Plate - Com Dac Biet A loaded plate with marinated charbroiled pork, tiger shrimp, pork chop, shredded pork skin, baked egg cake, and a (missing) fried egg. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The meats were tender, the fried items perfectly crispy, and the portion sizes were generous. Just excellent, authentic Vietnamese flavors. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. We only saw our server once (when we ordered), and they never checked in to see if we needed anything. My food arrived without silverware--which was tricky since I had pork and the pieces were too large for chopsticks. I had requested a fried egg that never arrived, despite being told it would. We still tipped and chalked this up to an oversight. This could have easily been a 5-star experience with just a little more attention and care from the staff. Still, I'd absolutely eat here again. Update: We decided to give them another chance and this time went smoothly. Seated quickly and food was very good. Special mention for their spring rolls which were some of the best in the area. I asked if they had the lemongrass chili oil like the Oakland and Albany locations, and the woman who said she was the owner told me they don't carry it--and was very rude about it. I've been to the location in Oakland before and it is easily the best rice plate I've had in the east bay hands down, so when I found out that there was another location in Livermore I had to go try! The location for this spot is near the back side of the Livermore outlets with a few different spots popping up such as an AYCE sushi and a bakery. The ambiance and decor of the shop is very spacious and nicely decorated with multiple booths an intimate seating. I ordered the Grilled Pork Spring Rolls- Sauce was excellent, the pork was nicely grilled and the crispy chip in the center added a nice crunch and texture to the spring roll. Veggies were fresh and overall solid appetizer. Com Tam Dac Biet - Portion was out of this world and everything from the grilled pork chop to the tiger shrimp was grilled to near perfection. There was a huge amount of char flavor from the grilling that I absolutely loved. The egg cake was delicious and drenched with the fish sauce started making my taste buds yearn and scream for more! First time trying this restaurant. Very convenient for me since I work at the outlets and it's across the street from me. We got seated right away. Waitress that took our order was really nice and helpful. Recommended me popular items from the menu. The ambiance was really nice, had unique art on the walls. The tables were clean and set up quite nicely. The food was really good. Definitely hit the spot today since the weather was raining throughout the day. I ordered some egg rolls as an appetizer and it very good. Egg rolls were crispy and the sauce for it was really good. I ordered a beef pho soup and it was really good. The noodles were nice and soft. The broth of the soup was very flavorful. Did not have to add to much condiments to the broth. My dinner was very tasty. Overall I give this restaurant a 4/5 star review. Will definitely be back soon and will be recommending this restaurant to my colleagues! Came in for lunch on a Monday. It was not too busy. Menu looked pretty substantial. We ordered the spring rolls (sausage with crispy roll) and the short rib pho. The spring rolls were good, but nothing spectacular. They were served with a different sort of sauce than what we were used to. We asked for the peanut sauce and it was promptly delivered to our table - and greatly enhanced the flavor of the spring rolls IMHO. Decided on the short rib pho as we've never had that before. This is easily one of the most expensive pho spots I've ever been to--and unfortunately, the food doesn't quite match the price. A large pho bowl runs over $20, and appetizers like spring rolls or egg rolls go for over $12-$15. The food was decent, but nothing about it really justified the cost. I'm guessing the prices are driven by the location and nice interior, maybe even to offset higher overhead costs. Customer service? Great. The staff is friendly, the place is clean, and it's got a modern look with big TVs and well-kept menus (not sticky--if you know, you know). It's definitely a good spot if you're bringing a large group and want a nice atmosphere. But if you're just looking for solid, authentic Vietnamese food at a better value, you're better off driving a few miles to another pho spot nearby. You might get stickier menus, but you'll likely get better flavor and more reasonable prices. I'm giving this place three stars purely because of the steep pricing for pretty average food. Great people, clean space--but $20+ for pho or vermicelli and $15 for essentially three egg rolls cut in half? I just can't justify it. read more

We only ordered an appetizer and three dishes plus tea and the price was around $83. For appetizer we ordered the spring rolls. The presentation of this was really nice. We only ordered 1 of these and they decided to give us two orders. It's $11 which is high compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. My mom ordered a soup dish. I believe she got #2 - house special combination. Me and my auntie ordered a rice plate. My auntie ordered #28, marinated charbroiled pork chops & tiger shrimp I ordered #32, Korean style beef short ribs. My mom said the pho soup tasted good and also the rice plates as well. So this is my second time visiting Ao Sen so I was raving to my girlfriend who is from HCM and came here 20 years ago. I asked her to join me to dinner at Ao Sen and she insisted that all the Vietnamese places in Tri Valley were not good and she only liked the places in San Jose around Story Rd in Little Saigon. She reluctantly agreed and it was only moments after seeing the romantically intimate, softly lit table tucked away, the extensive menu and the food presentation she was eyes wide open! The pho soup is not the ones with lots of aromatics. No star anise taste. It's just not the comforting taste that I was craving for in a pho soup. And a medium size bowl was $17. Decent pho place located adjacent to the San Francisco premium outlets. This is one of the first places I've tried eating at which is within earshot of the outlets. Pho Ao sen has definitely grown over the years and this newly opened location is a little chicer than the others. The ceilings are high, there's a nice mural of young woman on the wall and the plants/dimly lit nature of the establishment is as good as you're going to get for a moderately priced Vietnamese. The high light of the show was the spring rolls, the presentation and portion size was larger than I would've anticipated. The bun bue hue was also tasty, less earthy and more crisp than some of the others I've tried in my tenure. The pho portion for $17 was decent but not great. Pho Ao Sen is my favorite Pho/BBH restaurant in the East Bay. I've searched far and wide for a good Vietnamese spot here that contends with East San Jose restaurants, and it exceeded my expectations. Not only was the quality good, but the taste was exactly on par with how I'm used to Vietnamese home cooking. I have a new favorite pho spot!!! My friends and I came here for a weekend dinner and I was very pleased by the warm reception and friendly service. They were out of classic milk teas sadly but my Thai iced tea was delicious and I love that it was served in this mason jar style glass. Our spring rolls were fresh and came out looking like art, and my steak and brisket pho was flavorful and the meat was sooooo tender. This may be my favorite pho broth I've ever had!! It was chill inside with some music playing in the background soft enough that conversation was easy. The floors were a little slick with our rain soaked shoes but our meal was fantastic.
