This is a very long overdue review for Musubi Libre. I've been a fan of this business from the beginning. The musubi here are seriously amazing. The quality honestly reminds me of the kind of musubi you'd get in Hawaii, similar to places like Iyasume. Ever since trying musubi in Hawaii years ago, I've been hooked, and Musubi Libre is one of the very few places here that really gives me that same feeling/experience I've had. While the musubi are absolutely amazing, and it is their namesake, the Mrs. And I really like the onigiri! It's surprisingly hard to find truly good onigiri here in the US that lives up to the quality of the ones you'd get in Japan. Leonard, the owner clearly puts a ton of effort into each. He's definitely perfected his craft. The Mrs. and I have ordered from here casually many times before on our days off. We've tried the tuna, mentaiko, and ume. Mentaiko is my personal fave. The tuna is excellent too, and the ume has a classic salty-tangy flavor that's unique and refreshing. It's a great option for vegetarians as well. Recently, we ordered from Leonard to have onigiri catered for our daughter's birthday party. We got those 3 flavors. Originally, we just wanted something unique for the adults alongside the chicken nuggets and pizza we got for the kids. Man, we are so glad we did. The onigiri was a massive hit! People absolutely loved it, including guests who weren't necessarily huge into Japanese food or culture. They disappeared FAST! Like so fast I didn't get to eat one myself! This place is seriously a hidden gem in the East Bay. Definitely stop by, try the musubi and onigiri, and say hi to Leonard, who is genuinely one of the nicest people/owners you'll meet. read more

I'm so excited for the brick and mortar store to open! I ordered online some spam and vegan Omnipork musubis and a Spanish latte, and although the owner had just driven back from Monterey, he went ahead and got it ready for me. I think I came on the off day since he was busy and out of a few things, but I appreciated his kindness and great customer service because he gave us a few more musubis as well. My sister said the Omnipork was just a tad bit dry, but I really enjoyed mine. The shrimp was perfectly fried and flavorful and tasted great with the spam. The latte was also delicious and creamy. Happened upon this spot and rang the doorbell to see what they offered. We tried the spam musubi and Portuguese sausage musubi and the mini Portuguese sausage bowl. Everything was made fresh to order, the sauce on the spam musubi was delicious and it was a good ratio of spam to rice. He was super friendly, very quick, and a super patient as I was figure out what to order. Based on this experience I will explore catering options for the future. Highly recommend you try! Arrived within the 2 hour window complying with my specific delivery instructions. Nice! Loved trying the Spam variations as well as the hot dog and sausage ones but my fave was the Spam with Daikon... perfect crunch and savory fare together! I found Musubi Libre on Instagram and had to order! We got the Framily pack and a Spanish Latte and we almost forgot to take a picture because we couldn't wait to dig in! Every Musubi was delicious. Our faves were the Portuguese sausage ones, but the vegan one is a very close second place! The vegan one tastes very similar to spam but not as salty.
