New kid on the block! Macchi takes over what used to be Flavor Brigade next to Taqueria Don Chepe and Time Thai. I *think* they're a Japanese bakery/cafe since many of their menu items are matcha forward, and they have strawberry/cream sandos and egg sandos! Parking can be limited in the lot, but their vibes are worth the effort :) Very clean, minimalistic design with two order screens and WiFi. I was working from there and saw a lot of students pop by. Turns out they offer a 10% student discount for 11 menu items! Macchi Coffee Corn Latte ($7.99): Ah the price is steep but alas, I hate that I liked it ha! The corn flavor isn't too strong but it's there, and it surprisingly paired nicely with the coffee. I got it 75% sweet which was perfect, and I was tempted to add a foam option. Foam flavors are matcha, strawberry, or banana (!!) for $1.00 or salted caramel, cheese, mango for $1.20. No extra charge for oat milk. Macchi Mix Sando ($11.49): This was half strawberry/cream and half egg potato salad with bacon bits! Packed sandwiches and I was pretty full afterwards, but taste wise nothing too out of the ordinary. They have quite an extensive menu; outside of tea/coffee/baked goods, they also have slushes and ice cream! Next time I want to try the Macchi Thai, matcha banana latte, and/or one of the desserts. I love matcha and matcha lattes! I was so excited when this place opened. I really try to support local instead of Starbucks. Well, it's really hard to support local when the quality and service is not great. I asked what the matcha is sweetened with and the lady answered "it's from a bottle" Huh? I ordered my drink from an ipad and wish I could have asked about what they use to sweeten since that wasn't on the ipad: Sugar packet? honey? ???She was on the phone. I was literally the only only one there- at 8am on Saturday when they opened! The shop is juvenile cute. It seems appealing to the high school crowd since it's close to Amador high and the decor is very inspirational teenage quotes everywhere. Kpop music videos playing. My 8$ drink was not good. She didn't seem to mind that I shared I was a new patron and really willing to figure out more. Will be hard to return--an $8 matcha latte from Starbs will be exactly what I ask and any questions I have about sweetness options are clearly shared. Macchi is a new dessert establishment that has recently joined the downtown Pleasanton scene. However, I think it has a confusing brand identity as it does an array of boba drinks including matcha, ice cream, and frozen dessert treats. I generally think when places try to be a little bit of everything, it doesn't do anything particularly well. Because of its location in a strip mall is in a building located off of the main street, it has a weird layout where there is both a street-facing front entrance and a side-entrance near the back of the store where you would enter if you park in the parking lot. The two ordering kiosks happened to be located at this side entrance while the main cashier and where orders are picked up are at the front entrance. We came on a late evening and the place smelled of a very strong cleaning chemical. It definitely was not a smell you would want to be inhaling at a place you are looking to enjoy a sweet treat. There's a fair amount of interior seating but everything seems pretty stale and cold. Nothing was very warm and inviting about the interior decor despite it being recently remodeled from the previous tenant. We ordered the affogato and a frozen cheesecake on a stick. Prices are on the high end. Once we got our order the cheesecake on a stick did not appear anything like what it looked like on the ordering kiosk. It turned out that they had given us the wrong item, and admitted that somebody had misplaced the items in their freezer. We ended up getting to keep the incorrect item which was just a plain chocolate covered ice cream sandwich while also getting the item we had ordered. It was pretty standard but at a steep price. The affogato was on the bitter side and the coffee wasn't in particular any good. All in all this will be a one-time visit for us. read more

There aren't many matcha spots in the Tri-Valley, so I was stoke to see one in Pleasanton. I visited during the soft opening and the owner was friendly. The atmosphere was sleek, clean, and inviting. I tried their peanut latte and it was just okay. Mainly, I wasn't impressed with their sandos. The strawberries were too tart and ratio felt off since there was less fresh cream than fruit. It was messy to eat too because the fruit would keep falling off with each bite. They do use bread from Andersen Bakery, hence why it did not taste fresh. I haven't tried their matcha, but based on the reviews, I plan to skip it since I'm picky with my matcha. There's room for improvement, but I wouldn't go out of my way when there are better sandos and matcha elsewhere. read more

Service was great and quick. The regular matcha latte didn't taste very fresh and the flavor wasn't quite what I'd call premium. However, the fruit matcha lattes (strawberry and mango) were much better - flavorful and refreshing. The decor is super cute, making it a nice spot for studying. I've read the reviews, I feel like those that mention the owner must know the owner, hence the ratings that go along with that. The menu is confusing, a friend brought me a hot banana latte from here and I loved it, so I stopped in to get one myself along with a bite for breakfast. I tried to order a hot banana latte but that's not what I got. I got what was pictured in the menu when I ordered so I didn't complain. I challenge you to find a picture of a hot banana latte, maybe they'll fix it by the time you read this, check out my video of the confusing menu. There was a steady flow of customers but the vibe was a little off. When I was there, no music playing, it just felt meh. I used the restroom and was greeted by a sink for sale, an empty seat cover dispenser, and the remains of two rolls of toilet paper. Having had both the hot and cold banana latte now, I prefer the hot better. The egg salad "sando" wasn't quite like other sandos I've had. The bread seemed like simple white bread from the grocery store, the filling had tons of potato. It kind of had that grocery store deli feel, egg, bacon, tons of potato and mustard/mayo. Not horrible but in my opinion not worth $10.99 (or was $12.99 as seen on the label in my photo) I know this place is new, but... Came in around 1:30 on Thursday and i ordered on the kiosk. Super cute decor. Vibe: 5/5 Theres a small parking lot located out back, and a couple of small tables. This place would be good for a quick work sesh but make sure your devices are all charged, I didn't notice many outlets. Service: 5/5 I noticed there was one person working and she was super helpful with everyone, but it did take some time to make drinks.This place is located right next to the HS! Drinks: 3/5 I ordered a matcha latte 25% sweet with oat milk put a note for less milk since I don't like my drinks too milky. My drink was honestly just okay and not too sweet, which is great, matcha wasn't hella strong. I would love there to be a double shot option on the menu. Sorry. I hate giving businesses anything less than 4 stars, but here's my honest review... The drinks we got were decent but they're not something exclusive that I can only order there. Also can't tell if they forgot the foam on my husbands drink or if that's just how it is. I thought usually the foam should be on top, but as you can see from the single photo of his matcha, that was right upon receiving it (pre-stirred). I got a half potato salad w/ bacon sando and it was not to my liking. The bread is not fluffy and on par with bread usually used with Japanese sandos. Sprinkled bacon bits that you get from a container only on the outside of the sando, it's not fully mixed in with the potato salad. The potato salad was also a bit too sweet for my liking. Also, the skinny straw available gets buried into your cup if your drink is in the taller cup. The type of lid they use you shouldn't need a straw, but I needed the straw to stir my drink. FYI: the ordering kiosk is at the back of the shop. Makes sense because you really enter from the back because that's where the parking lot is. In addition, they also call out your orders one a time as it becomes ready and don't wait until they're all ready together. read more

New spot in the area! Parking was a bit tough. I think it was because there was a new Boba shop nearby but other than that, it took a minute to find a parking spot. It's a cute quiet café, where you can definitely meet with friends and study. The banana Matcha was OK. I thought it was going to be a little bit more creamer, but they just put bananas in. The entire drink was not only full of ice, but I also received a small straw even though I had toppings. They also didn't have boba when I was ordering. Additionally, the customer service was poor. As for the ambiance, it was good, hence the 2nd star, but there's definitely other options if you're looking for a study spot. Best matcha in the Bay! I've tried so many matcha spots in the South Bay and this one is a true hidden gem. Winnie, the owner, is so kind. On my visits she let me try her homemade brown sugar boba and mango sando, and both were delicious. You can tell she really cares about the quality of her matcha, which is why I'll always keep coming back. It wasn't too sweet even at 100% sweetness and didn't taste grainy or overly grassy like others. I also love that she offers oat milk since I'm sensitive to dairy. This is a fairly new place, so I hope many people get to try it out! It's definitely my go-to matcha spot anytime I'm in the area. I'd even drive from the South Bay just for it. read more

And, you can tell that the design, from the packaging, the menu, the service, and the food and drink, is all about quality. At different time, I have tried their pineapple Matcha, banana Matcha, strawberry sandos, Ube sandos, onigiri (rice roll), and tiramisu My experiences are: I enjoyed the banana Marcha drink with 25% sugar. It tasted light yet a boost in energy. It was joyful. The onigiri chicken rice roll was delicious. The portion wasn't big, but you could taste the freshness and nutrition. It was perfect for me as a light lunch snack after my workout. And I absolutely enjoyed the tiramisu ! It had right amount of sweetness. It satisfied my craving for sweets yet I wouldn't feel guilty if I had two of those. They were light and delicious. The Ube strawberry sandos are also light and delicious. I didn't mind it was overflowed with the creamy moose. It was like eating a juicy hamburger. I sunk my teeth into the sandos and enjoyed its generous portion! Before I wrote this review, I was pretty surprised to read some poor reviews giving three, two, or one starts ratings. How bad a store has to be to have a one star rating? I feel sorry for the owner. This store definitely does not deserve such low rating. Seriously, It is a small bakery business newly started and seemed to have qualify in mind. It is not a restaurant with a full blown lunch and dinner menu and provides waitering services. If I could remix the recipe I would use thinner bread and add some sweetness to the whipped cream (or whatever it is). Love their crème brûlée too. It's a nicely decorated place in the corner of the plaza near Pleasanton downtown and gives a cozy and relaxed feel. It's nice to see a matcha and sando place open up in the East Bay. Sadly , I was disappointed in the outcome of the sando and matcha I ordered . I had ordered the strawberry sando, bacon potato egg sando and matcha . The matcha taste had a potent green color , slight umami flavor and a bit bitter, in which matcha should be. But, It was very gritty and not a silky texture I would like it would be. I had not added any sugar bc I wanted to taste the matcha . It is advertised as matcha from Japan . I kept sipping and stirring the tea to see if it just needing to be whisk around more . The gritty texture was still there . Honestly, It was not the best quality compared to other matcha tea places I've been to. The most disappointing is the Sando. The sando is made in front of you. The strawberry Sando cream was not creamy , fluffy and taste artificial. The strawberries were tart and not sweet. The bacon potatoes egg salad was made with bacon bits . Bacon bits as in the artificial bacon in the salad . Ironically , My sister said the potato salad they used was from Costco . Sure enough it was . You see the potato container while they are making it . Overall, the bread was not fluffy , sweet and soft unlike the other milk breads I tried . Im not sure if it was milk bread . But, It tasted like a sandwich bread. The bread was from Anderson bakery . You can see the bread packaging while they make it . I really wanted to love this place . The place is very esthetically appealing and the employees were very nice and friendly . It is the soft opening . I really do hope they make their sandos better . I wanted the bread to be like a sando sandwhich - soft , sweet and fluffy. The bread and cream is what make a sando . The potato salad should be homemade especially the bacon. Especially with the price you pay. $9.49 for half of the strawberry and half of the potato sando. There is a soft opening special for the whole strawberry sando , $8.99 . Regular $12.99. It is a wonderful concept to have in the East Bay especially in the Pleasonton Area . There is no other concept in the area . Some people do have the financial advantage to buy the sando and matcha .
