Starbird Chicken is my favorite chicken chain for wings, creative salads and their delicious chicken sandwiches. Starbird offers limited-time menu of international flavors from Indian, Thai and Japanese-inspired along with their latest offering chimichurri to their menu items. Their standard menu is consistently good but appreciate the change of unique flavors and sauces that gets me to try something new. Their Star sauce, truffle aioli, and roasted garlic aioli are amazing, and I'm definitely trying the chimichurri next! I do miss their earlier house-made pimento cheese, offered on their Free Range Ranch sandwich which included crispy chicken, bacon, tangy slaw, and that amazing pimento cheese. We had heard a lot about Starbird Chicken so we decided to stop here on our way home from the bay. Full disclosure, it was about 8 :00 p.m. on a Friday night so the parking was packed and although we were able to snag a spot across the street from the parking lot, through my open window I overheard a family verbally make a decision to go to Chili's instead because they could not find two parking spaces in the lot for their large family. Because of how busy it was, we decided once we were parked to go ahead and make an order for pickup. It was easy to do and the food was ready very quickly. We ordered the Japanese BBQ tender box with double fries and some crispy Thai brussels sprouts. The first thing I always grab everywhere is the fries. They were warm, but not hot, and they were soggy and bland. I would have been incredibly disappointed, but one of the sauces they gave us was a creamy chive flavored little thing and I have never had it before but it is delicious. It took the whole cup of sauce for me to be able to get the fries down. The fries were disappointing 1/5 but the sauce , 5/5 for sure! The brussel sprouts were ok. My husband liked them more than I did but even he commented that it tastes like something I can make quickly at home, and I do. Mine are more buttery and less sour, but they weren't particularly crispy and we both gave them 3/5. The chicken tenders on the other hand were large, juicy and cooked well. The parts that weren't drenched in sauce were also crispy and tasty. Unfortunately the Japanese barbecue sauce they use here is not for us. It's far too sour and there was so much liquid in the bottom of the box with our tenders that they got very soggy. Ultimately I can't give them more than 3/5. Overall, this was an okay experience and because the service was good, I would definitely be willing to come back to Starbird again but I would choose different flavors, try and stop by when they aren't super busy, and ask for a lot more of that creamy chive sauce! read more

My husband and I usually also share a drink. You can get out of there with 2 people for under $40, which is pretty great, with leftovers. I came here because it was close to where I was studying. I've been eyeing this new dish as an Indian hot chicken and I really wanted to try it. It looked so good online and I can just imagine how good would taste in person. I feel the same way about the fries. They looked very good online and I was looking forward to diving into them and having them. But the pictures were very deceptive. It tasted like chicken, with a sauce on it. Nothing special and the good thing is that they didn't charge more for the experience. I think you have more to do with the fact that I like Indian food and I've eaten a lot of Indian food in this food may have been inspired by Indian food, but did not have the depth of flavor and spiciness that I was looking for. So I was more disappointed than anything. Their regular aïoli have more flavor and contribute more to the dish than what they have. And don't let me get started on those fries! Disappointing doesn't even describe the experience. They were absolutely horrible now, I ordered some fries a while ago drove them home and they were so good. They were still hot. Ish crispy and wild. All the flavoring on them were kind of overdone. I wasn't disappointed. I drove 15 minutes with these fries and opened them up to find them waxy, cold, and absolutely nothing on top of it contributed to the experience of eating them. So, even though I've never been to the store before I would suggest sticking with the regular offerings to see how they stack up. I still do a lot of studying in the area and may go by, but it will not be a special treat and I won't go far out of my way to come here for this. But for the ambience, it was a starboard chicken. It was one of the bigger busier ones that I've seen, but the tables are clean and it was pretty nice. So the standards are there. I also got a cold soda, which was also pretty good. But to wrap up, I'd say stick to the basics and see how they stack up with what your experience is. That means regular fries and just two chicken tenders. I was really excited to try Starbird after seeing so many good reviews, but unfortunately, my experience aligned more with the not-so-great ones. The place is cute and looked clean, although there were quite a few flies buzzing around--probably due to the weather, so I tried not to hold that against them. I headed toward one, but someone from the counter handed me a small, cute paper menu, which I ended up slipping into my purses and still ended up ordering from the kiosk. We ordered the lemon pepper chicken tender combo with regular fries and the lemon pepper and BBQ gold bone-in wings with truffle fries. Honestly, the best parts of the meal were the truffle fries and hibiscus tea. The chicken, while not oily (which I appreciated), tasted old--really old. It was dry and had that weird frostbitten texture, like it had been sitting in a freezer too long. I took some home for my sister to try, and the first thing she asked was, "Is this OK to eat?" We got 10 pieces of boneless chicken wings. They are like white meat, chicken nuggets with a crunchy breading. These were okay. Kids liked them. We ordered 10 pieces of regular chicken wings. DH was upset that there were 9 drummettes and only 1 flat section. He thought it should've been more balanced. You can get all drummettes or flats by paying an extra $1. The pieces seem to be very small, but they were well cooked. Any Korean fried chicken place would have tastier and larger wings. Sauces were pretty good. My favorite was the barbecue sauce. Crispy Chicken, sliced tomato, shredded lettuce, dill pickles, Star Sauce. He loved the sandwich and said he would get it again. We ordered the Trufle Fries. I've literally fallen in love with starbird... since the first time this location opened and I tried their chicken, with all the sauces and I'm hooked! So crispy and flavorful! Was driving by around lunchtime and remembered that Starbird had a vege burger option so stopped by to try it. Ordered and paid at the kiosk so no waiting in line. Waited for about 10 minutes and name was called out. The takeaway bag was placed on a shelf organized alphabetically. The vege burger was awesome, packed with ingredients and very flavorful. I tried the POG Mango Lemonade, which was refreshing and full of flavor, and then got a free refill of Strawberry Hibiscus Lemonade (huge win!). Starbird is good food with excellent customer service. I've been to this location many times and the service has always been above. One day we waited 1.5 hours for our food, the staff was friendly and apologetic. Shout out to manager Nit who remedied the situation and remained calm and courteous throughout. Today I came in and was helped by Leah, who was not only so sweet, but also checked on me throughout my meal. She brought me extra salad dressing and had such a nice smile and good attitude. Service aside, I love Starbird. I was shocked when they told me their most popular item was their salad. As someone who has had salads, sandwiches, and the fries here can say the salads are my favorite, but you can't go wrong with anything here. The chicken is always warm and crispy. I've been to starbird maybe four times already. Bottom line, great food options, great service, great flavor. The first time I went I got some tenders option which was great, but every time after I've actually opted for the salad option. I will say as far as salads go, these are still a lot of calories so don't assume because it's a salad it's low calories. However, they have a lot of great ingredients in them too and have been quite delicious. I've tried the Green Goddess and the Thai chicken salad. Both are packaged with the sauce separate so it lasts longer. The store itself is quite nice. There's a cute sign and a decent amount of seating. They have a cashiers counter and a handful of kiosks immediately at the entrance, but really no space for anyone to wait and not be in the way when picking up to-go orders. The beverage service counter is also right in this immediate area, allowing for minimal flow of traffic when busy. After placing my order at the kiosk, I awkwardly stood by a table waiting for my name to pop up on the screen as "order ready" (which is a super convenient feature. I ordered the Bella Chop Salad to go. While it was good, I don't know that it was one that I'd be rushing back to Starbird for, rating it a 3.5/5. Perhaps it's just the golden balsamic that was overpowering of any other flavor profile? Either way, I'd be inclined to try a different salad next time around. The chicken was nice and crispy but didn't really seem to have any seasoning come through. One strong point this place does offer is unique salad options in comparison to competitors. They don't feel like your average salad choices. This is what would bring me back for a second go.
