I went to get a haircut and noticed a New Indian Restaurant in the strip mall. I wanted to order take out. For LUNCH take home,,, as leaving a 20% tip would make lunch for ONE so expensive. Nice that it is not 100% vegetarian. Beautiful ambiance, very clean inside . I asked the gentleman how long they had been open. He replied 4 mos. After browsing their menu i ordered the Pampano fish and okra to take home. Out of Pampano. So i changed to the Crab. Out of Crab. Hmmmm??? Wanting to give them a chance. So i just simply ordered the Lemongrass Chicken and order of okra. Short wait. No problem. Both dishes were wonderful. Chef used chicken thighs- moist and delicious. Okra was wonderful, nice amount of spice. Perfect with white rice we had at home. Definitely a nice lunch. A bit expensive at $35 I will visit again if i am in the area. Parking is not easy. We did another take out from here last night and this time tried a lot of their vegetarian menu. Kurchan gobi - nice take on tandoori gobi Soya malai chap - this almost tastes like chicken! Very tasty and creamy Panch Puran paneer - little extra masala but tasted good with naan Tarkari pulao - this was surprisingly good and extremely flavorful Ma ki daal - pretty good Tandoori paneer - very tasty, nice masala Malai kofta - this was really good and felt healthy :) Definitely a place we will frequent. read more

I was originally just looking for a place to grab some garlic naan to take home, but the moment I stepped inside, I was convinced to stay and dine in! The menu is unique, with exquisite flavors, creative fusion dishes, and the perfect combination of traditional and modern tastes, truly the best of both worlds. We originally stopped by to try the new Saffron Grill for Indian lunch. It turns out its lunch buffet only and many of the items were stews and fried items. Smells great, but my wife didn't find anything to her liking. So we walked out after they seated us with water. I felt bad so I used Doordash to get ala carte dinner. They have a much braider menu for dinner including some of my favorites: Methi Malai Chicken - Walnut cream and fenugreek sauce over juicy chicken thighs. One of my favorites Indian preparations of chicken, and its not that common IMHO. Almost French-like with its rich, earthly flavors. 5 stars. Tandoori Chicken - Four bone-on dark meat pieces. Beware, as some parts were undercooked. Nuke in microwave for 3 min on High. Good flavors after microwave, but a ding for the initial undercooked chicken. 3 stars. Saag Paneer - Excellent. Much smoother than other Indian places and the spice level is just right for me. 5 stars. Overall, a promising new Indian place, but only for ala carte dinner. Buffets these days actually are a crap shoot. Always check bone-in Tandoori chicken, since in our experience its more likely undercooked rather than overcooked. read more

Had a great dinner for 2 at Saffron Grill (2 doors down from Pho Hoa off Crow Canyon Road). It's a bright, tastefully-decorated restaurant, with well-spaced tables. And the food was fresh and well-prepared and tasty. Full disclosure - I'm not of Indian descent, although I do dine at a lot of South Asian restaurants. Started with the Tandoori Cauliflower, which came on a sizzling platter with 2 dipping sauces - basil and chutney, I believe. It was a great presentation of cauliflower - a bit spicy and very flavorful, with a good crunch to the vegetable. Next we had the Kadhai Chicken. The sauce was thicker and not gravy-like, but it had great spices and vegetable flavors. As advertised, it was thigh meat which was very moist. I asked that they make it less spicy than normal and it was not spicy at all; I would probably have it as intended next time. We also had the Yellow Dal Palak, which was traditionally prepared, and the spinach was a nice touch. It was tasty, and not spicy. Finally, we had an order of the Plain Naan, which came with four quarter pieces and was fine. The service was outstanding, and the server and host were very warm and helpful. Although the restaurant is relatively new, I don't think they missed any beats in serving the food. We dined on a Wednesday night around 8, and there were about 5 parties eating total. A few deets - the room is large and I believe they could accommodate a large group by putting tables together. Payment was traditional - your credit card is processed up front and you sign the ticket after adding your tip. There is ample parking in the adjoining shared parking lot. And, less I forget, they are offering a 15% Grand Opening discount. Recommended! read more

Good Ambience and great location. Service was normal. Nothing exceptional to talk about. Food was sub standard. Ordered Aloo Tikki chat, Masaledar Bhindi were just ok. I have eaten much better at lot of other places. AVOID Sun Dried Tomato Kofta under all circumstances. Also AVOID Tandoori Roti. Even though we told our server that Kofta was bad, he didnt do anything about it. Eventually we left it as is and didnt eat but were still charged. CoKe and Diet Coke Soda were the best item we ordered. Pretty empty for saturday night. One other couple was eating and there were 2 pickups during our time there. Avoid if u can. read more

Very unsettling experience at Saffron Grill. The food is bland, and the buffet trays were not frequently refilled (see photos for Salad and other dishes ). More importantly, the service was highly unprofessional. The staff began pressuring us to leave because they were 'busy,' but it went much further than that: the staff actually assigned the next group of guests to our table before we had even finished. These new guests joined us at our table while we were still eating, watching us and repeatedly asking when we would be leaving. It was an incredibly intrusive and uncomfortable experience that made us feel unwelcome. I won't be returning. read more

Saw someone posted about this new Indian restaurant in San Ramon and about their weekend buffet for me interested. Even their facebook postings look pretty good overall, might try a weekday lunch over there sooner than later. Anyways, I stopped by Sunday afternoon to be honest I was sort of surprised they opened later than a lot of other places..but they opened at 12 and I got there around 1pm. I was honestly kinda of surprised that I was the first person there, luckily after a showed up a few other groups came in and a few ate there while a few other groups glanced at the offerings and declined. The place itself was very clean and neat and the decor was very nice and imo bordering on the higher end look or appeal. The buffet offerings were decent to slightly above average but admittedly imo was also kinda of small in terms of variety. The food itself overall was very good, none of the food was overly spicy nor salty when I was eating it. The pepper chicken was more of an indo-Asian fusion and wasn't what I've had at other Indian restaurants, so it was definitely as nice change of pace here. The veggie offerings were all very good and flavorful and I was also kinda of surprised that they were offering Thai peppers raw to add more heat to your meals. I had to ask just to make sure and to see if it was a smaller version of Serrano peppers which I've seen more often around Indian buffets. Other stands outs were the fish which I thought was pretty good and the goat curry which always seems to be a solid choice if you don't mind eating goat. The mango lasse was a nice offering here too which o normally don't see it for free at a buffet. Besides this the server and waiters were all very friendly and were quick to take my empty plates and refill my water. Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area at least for the weekend buffet. Will probably update if or when I try their lunch offerings. read more

Good food but not great. Butter chicken was a little bit on the sweet side, lamb vindaloo meat was dry but cooked in a lot sauce. Briyani was spot on with goat meat. As a regular of 10 years at Frontier Spice in Pleasanton, when I found out they shifted in San Ramon, I just had to visit. You are welcomed by friendly staff and a comforting atmosphere! We ordered many items but some of our favorites were the trio of chicken, Ginger Brulee, & masala lamb chops! The strawberry lassi was so refreshing for the hot day. Kudos to the amazing chefs! So me and my coworker decided to check it out today for lunch. Right when you walk in the place is nice and clean. The decor is very nice. The friendly staff greeted us. When we went up to get our food everything look so good! I am a vegan and I love how they have plenty of vegetarian options. I had the small eggplant and it was amazing. I also had the rice, the fried eggplant, cauliflower and the other fried veggie and all of them were very good. The naan bread was hot and delicious! I love the fact that it's buffet where you can try everything. The staff was so friendly. Not sure if that was the owner but when we were leaving he came up to us and I told him how much I love all the food and very tasty. And I like the fact they have fresh fruits, desserts and juice. I forgot to take pictures of the buffet and the place. We will definitely be coming back and bring more coworkers with us. I wish you would open up a Saffron Grill in San Francisco. Went here during my lunch break on thursday. I was the only customer there.. they had lunch buffet out. The owner and staff were nice. They had variety of different dishes. Fresh sides like tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, chilis and lemon. Everything was really good and great price in this economy. They give you warm fresh naan to your table. I was told you can ask for butter to have butter naan. But i was too full at that point. Will def come back to try other menus. Now im going to go in food coma read more

I had read great reviews about Saffron Grill on Nextdoor so decided to try them for dinner To our delight, it's a new restaurant by the owners of the recently closed Frontier Spice in Pleasanton (which I've also done a review of). We were disappointed when they closed as we really enjoyed the wonderful food there. Lucky for us they are now closer! We enjoyed Beet salad, Masalendar Bhindi (okra), Chicken Biryani and Shrimp Ambotik. The beets were a beautiful presentation of evenly diced red and gold beets with micro greens and a lovely Indian spiced dressing. The Biryani was a very generous portion and so delicious we enjoyed most of it for lunch the next day. The shrimp was sweet and fresh and the sauce urged dipping up with naan all on its own. The favorite for us though was the okra. We rarely eat okra and it was so flavorful. Not being a fond of buffets we'll make it a dinner destination. If you've been for the buffet lunch, please come back and try the freshly prepared off menu items. The service was also helpful, friendly and efficient and we were pleased to see our former waiter from Frontier Spice. The ambiance is also very pleasing and the chairs soft and very comfortable! I placed a takeout order of Tandoori Cauliflower, Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan and everything was absolutely delicious! Food was hot and continued to be hot long after I got home which was a plus as well. All of the dishes tasted super fresh and they even provided delicious sauces/chutney to accommodate the food. The chicken trio was amazing. The chicken pieces marinated in 3 different ways and then grilled to perfection , very flavorful and juicy. The goat curry with garlic naans was a well balanced in spice and consistency.. and then we tried the channa masala as a veg alternative and that was good too.
