Recently ordered to go at Swaraj and I feel this place has improved a lot since its opening in San Ramon area few years back! This time tried the all veggies menu - kothimbir vada was the best that had since some time and misal pao and pav bhaji was pretty good even though both were on spicy side.

My Indian friend brought me here and I realized that even thought I always said I love Indian food, this IS the authentic version! The food quality is good and they are spicy so watch out for the indicator before you order. This place is clean and service is good, with robot waiters too! Good place to taste authentic Indian cuisine and ambience and low noise level, very good for catching up with friends.

This restaurant features fare from the India's west coast, particularly the states of Maharashtra and the area around the next state over - Goa Expect the food to be reasonably spicy but super tasty Try their seasonal dishes and you will not be disappointed We ordered their seasonal Pomfret ( kind of white fish from the Pompano family) it was delicious ! Their kolhapuri mutton ( goat curry) along with komadi wade ( fried mini poori) were the perfect combination They also have regional drinks - Solkadi (flavored coconut milk) and Kokam drink ( flavored drink with water) - they compliment the spice very well Service is top notch ! Ambience gives you the feel of being in a princely home in Maharashtra ( West Indian state)

Great Maharashtrian food! I would have given 3.5 stars if there was one. We ordered many dishes from the menu - vada pav, kothimbir vadi, sabudana vada, maharashtrian style baingan. All of them tasted pretty authentic. We didn't like their pav bhaji - it seemed they had put goda masala in it which is not authentic pav bhaji. Service was pretty quick.

Ambience is nice with music but not loud. Fine silverware and nice chilled chili platter. Saoji mutton is flavorful, not quite spicy enough for me but the chili platter is good. The servers checked with me for countless times. Great service and food!

Went on a weekday for lunch right during prime time but unfortunately it was very quiet and we were the only table the entire time. It was very bright and clean inside and spacious. We noticed that there was a fresh rose on every table which was a very nice touch. We were not familiar at all with this type of indian food and our server tried to explain to us and be helpful. We ended up ordering the kadak chai, Pani Puri, Malvani Mutton, and Chicken Rajhans with Bajra Bhakri and a side of rice. Portions were a bit smaller than we'd like considering the prices. Not a lot of meat in the curries. The lamb was supposed to be 2 chilis spicy and was pretty spicy, even for me who can eat spicy (for reference, I can eat thai and viet spicy). Had high hopes for it but it just kinda lacked depth and flavor and even felt like a thin curry. It was still good, but i've definitely had much better curry. The chicken curry was better, but again, have had better. We didn't really want the bread side but the waiter was really pushing it so we got it, even though we don't really eat carbs like that. The rice was the extent of the carbs we wanted. Pani puri and the chai was good. Might try a different location but prob will not be returning to this one.

I had visit Swaraj in Sunnyvale several times, but this is my 1st time in San Ramon location. This place is bigger than their Sunnyvale location I like their decorations of the restaurant because you can learn something from this region of India, such as map. The foods are delicious. We ordered Macchi Curry & Sukha chicken. I like Macchi curry more than Sukha chicken because I think the chicken is a bit (not much) salty. The Macchi curry is a bit more creamy. The fish curry has bones, so you be careful when you eat it. The service is great, but the foods come out a bit slow. I would recommend this place if you're in the area.

Swaraj has a dark, regally-decorated interior and a menu of Maharastrian food from the western state of India. The menu was printed on a cloth paper and decorated to look like a royal scroll, and while most of the items seemed unfamiliar, the super friendly staff was quick to walk through it with their recommendations! We started with the Kothimbir Vadi, a steamed and grilled cake made of gram flour and chopped cilantro. The slices were rather dry and flavorless on their own, but were served with an herbaceous green chutney, a spicy red chutney, and a sweet tamarind chutney. To drink, I had the Sol Kadhi, a bright pink drink made of coconut milk and kokum juice. The drink had an intense sour, salty flavor and helped cool down the spices of the food. For our mains, the Sukha Mutton was made of chunks of bone-in, slightly chewy mutton cooked with onions, tomatoes, and spices; and the Malvani Chicken was bone-in chicken cooked in a spicy dark gravy made with coconuts, chilies, and spices. But my favorite dish was the Veg Peshwai, made of mixed vegetables (including cauliflower, carrots, bell peppers, and paneer) in an addictively creamy onion tomato gravy. All of the entrees went perfectly with their freshly-made flatbreads, including rice bhakri (which had a soft yet chewy texture), millet bhakri (hard and dry), and my favorite, the Maharashtrian chapathi, a two-layered whole wheat flatbread with a soft, chewy texture and nutty aroma! Overall, the boldly-spiced food was absolutely delicious and came with super friendly, attentive service (and robot waiters) too!

This place was amazing. If you're tired of having standard Indian food and want to try something with completely unique distinctive flavors you have never had before, this is the spot. It is Maharashtrian food and the chef (who we met) is incredible. We never had been offered this unique cuisine before and can't believe how delicious it is. Everything is super fresh and you can tell how much effort they made to cook it with love. We had helping us team leader Mohan (who we took a picture with). He guided us through the large menu and advised us and also made us laugh cause he's funny and cool. My girlfriend is gluten free and they also had a ton of special options for her that they have nowhere else. Don't delay, try this gem today!

Swaraj is a relatively new Indian restaurant opening up in San Ramon, which introduces Maharashtra cuisine, from the western part of India. Its one of the most affluent regions of India and includes the city, Mumbai. The restaurant decor is gorgeous - painted artwork on hanging drapes, nice table settings, servers dresses in uniforms, and yes even a robot roaming around. The food is good and definitely on the spicier side. Indian food is definitely more complex than North and South. Malvani chicken was moist and still plenty spicy despite having coconut as one of the components. Must be all those spices. It had a 2-chili rating on the menu so glad I didn't order a dish with 3 or 4-chilis, LOL. Instead of the usual butter or garlic naan, they offered the excellent Chapati, which is whole wheat flatbread, also known as Roti. For dessert, I got the Shrikhand, a very thick and sticky sweet yogurt with saffron, pistachio, and cardamom. I like this much more than the usual milky tapioca desserts. Definitely recommend giving Swaraj a try, especially if you enjoy spicy foods and want to experience something different. Maharashrian cuisine is probably more common in Fremont, so glad San Ramon has it as well.

We recently visited Swaraj Indian Cuisine in San Ramon. The food is amazing, and the ambience has a beautiful historical touch. Every dish is unique and flavorful! Highly recommend trying their Vada Pav, Tawa Pulao, Poori Shrikhand, assorted breads, and entrees. A must-visit spot! Do check out their other locations in the bay area!

We started with the Crispy Cauliflower, coated with tempura batter and served with lemon aioli; Roasted Brussels Sprouts, topped with chili flakes & Parmesan and served in a cast iron skillet; and the Hummus, topped with Pepitas and served with thin, crispy parm'd pizza bread. The Chopped Kale Salad came with apple, radish, carrot, cotija, and Pepitas, all tossed in a tangy pomegranate vinaigrette; and the Chickpea Salad also had a base of kale topped with chickpeas, roasted sweet potato/carrot, and charred halloumi, and dressed with herbed pesto. The highlight of the menu was their creative pizzas, which you could order either on a thin, crispy Neapolitan crust, or on a thick, soft, square-shaped Detroit-style base with crispy baked cheese edges. The Fun Guy came with porcini cream, mushroom, onion, goat cheese, and pecorino; and the Hail Mary came with beer braised chicken, caramelized onion, cotija, garlic, and Calabrian chili oil, which gave the pizza a flavorful spicy kick. Overall, my favorite items were the Hummus with aromatic pizza bread; and the tantalizingly spicy Detroit-style Hail Mary, but everything was tasty and came at a good value and with quick service too!

The place was super lively and honestly pretty packed during my visit on a week night. The lounge itself is on the smaller side, but cozy. I like the concept, there are wire racks on the wall and each table has a little wooden game board on top (mine was Chinese checkers), such a cute touch and makes the place feel a bit more interactive. Their signature cocktail menu has a lot of options, but since it was our first time, we asked the bartender for a recommendation. He suggested "Meet Me In Pearis" since we wanted something vodka-based. The drink took about 10-15 minutes to come out, which felt a bit long, but it looked like he was the only one working, serving two big parties plus a few tables, so I get it. Service overall was still good and he was nice the whole time. For the drink... honestly, it didn't really wow me. Both the flavor and presentation were pretty underwhelming. It kind of tasted like a glass of sangria to me. I guess with "Artisanal" in the name, I was expecting something a little more unique or elevated. Overall, great location, nice vibes, and I like the interior concept. Service was solid too. Just wish the drink matched the same level. Probably wouldn't come back, but glad I got to check it off my list.
