5 star ambience but spice in food is on a level that you literally cannot eat. We relatively eat spicy food but got a good lecture by the manager that all the food there is spicy. Worst of all there is literally no food for kids. When we mentioned that to the manager, the response was "this is not a restaurant for kids". We did not require or request a kids menu. Kolhapuri chicken is spicy, you need to be ready for it.. with Sol Kadhi! Sukha Chicken was yummy and my kids insisted on eating all of the leftovers. Our family had dinner at the San Ramon location. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, everything felt authentically Maharashtrian. The restaurant ambiance added to our experience immensely. The staff was attentive and helpful in suggesting the right dishes/food combinations for our family. We had the Kothimbir Vadi, Sabudana Vada, Bharli Vangi, Paneer Rajhuns, Mumbai Tawa Pulao, Patrani Macchi, and Kombadi Vade. Every dish was delicious and flavorful. Special kudos to the owner who checked on us regularly. His passion for Maharashtrian culture and cuisine was evident. We were even gifted a Diwali gift on our way out, which was such a nice gesture. We went there on a Sunday afternoon. We were promptly greeted with a smile and seated courteously. The ambiance is inspiring with paintings of historical Maharashtrian heroes. The menu is diverse Maharashtrian food with both veg and non veg options. We tried the pomfret fish, sol kadhi, tambdaa rassa, Malvani chicken, kombdi vade,Bhakri, rice and the kulfi. Food was very tasty and portion sizes were adequate. They also had a robot waiter bringing food to your table. The waiting staff was courteous and stopped by for a friendly chat. Great traditional Maharashtrian food! The Kolhapuri mutton curry is one of the best curries I have had and the best goat curry in the Bay Area!! Basoondi and Anjeer kulfi are a must have. Mohan was a great host and server to us - he recommended getting the Fish Koliwada for apps which was a great call - the herbs and spice on the koliwada have a mouth watering taste to it! The food was just ok. Out of everything between me and my husband that we ordered, the only dish which was really good was sabodhana vada. The other orders that I ordered was vadapav very substandard, then pav bhaji which was also very ordinary. Even I can make better at home. I also ordered Basanti that was very ordinary as well. We heard good things about their non-vegetarian food however we were pleasantly surprised by their vegetarian curries as well. Loved the ambiance which played nice classic music. I'm from Mumbai and I can say this one of the finest Maharashtrian restaurant which serves authentic maharashtrian food. It has both Veg and Non Veg dishes. Spices are just right for your tastebud to enjoy every bite of it. Service is excellent. Both Raj and Mohan were awesome provided excellent service. The food was edible and that's the best I can say about it. I had ordered the fried fish entree (the picture was of a whole pomfret, but I got bone in kingfish - but the fish covered in very thick spicy coating - the fish was also smelly, probably old and defrosted. The only other item I ordered was the goat biryani, and let me tell you, this place swindles its customers. I only got rice and three tiny mutton pieces, that too one was only a bone! Picture attached. They charged me $20 including tax for this!!! I mean for crying out loud! Please stick with paradise or biryani junction or pretty much any other biryani place - avoid ordering it here. Really delicious food! We had been going to the Santa Clara location for a while and very grateful that we have one in the east bay now. Authentic regional food! Every curry tastes different as it should. My family loves the fish. Bhakri was great. Vada pav was awesome! Sol kadhi was soul kadhi! Even the salad with the hint of fennel was refreshing. We went to Swaraj and we're amazed. The food was amazing, two/three of us were sensitive to spice so the waiter (Mohan) recommended us with specific dishes where you could get the flavour without an overpowering kick. Mohan was excellent in conversation as well as education as to why Swaraj is similar, but different. It is specifically West Indian (Maharastra), where many mainstream Indian Restaurants are more northwestern. the food was outstanding and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some good and different Indian food. Amazing food, service, and a neat setting, granted its somewhat in an in-between spot between Danville and San Ramon, it doesn't change the fact that it is most certainly worth a try. read more

We have been here to this place couple of times. They don't disappointment anytime. May it be service, food or the environment around it is five star. Just a note, food is spicy so be ready for that. Swaraj is an Indian restaurant that introduces the delicious cuisine of the 'Konkan' coast to the south of the city of Mumbai, with its focus on coconut based seafood delicacies. It also features dishes native to the Indian Marathi community from the State of Maharashtra, India whose capital is the city of Mumbai.
