I find that the staff can be more knowledgeable and helpful. When one location didn't have what I needed an attempt was made to contact a sister store. He ran into technology issues and I had to phone directly and was advised there were bottles available of the Pama I was looking for. Off I went and secured a bottle. Reluctantly, we skipped it, and headed for the whiskey section, as we were on a tight deadline, and on a mission to buy a high quality rare bottle of the "good stuff" for our cousin who was having a milestone birthday. We spent some time looking over the Irish whiskeys, Scotch blends, and single malts from Islay, Speyside, and the Highlands. The more we looked, the more analysis paralysis set in, as there were so many compelling choices. That's when we lucked out, as Dario, the most friendly, AND knowledgeable, sales person in the store, stopped by to check in on us! He talked to us about the different types of whiskeys, extolled their characteristics and virtues, and steered us towards the best gift options. Dario helped us narrow down to a manageable half dozen options, and we picked the highest rated bottle within our budget. Today, after waiting in line for almost 20 minutes with 1 person in front, I put my items back into my cart. The cashier said, "Well my light was off." There were two cashiers helping him. I said to her, "There is a customer here so why didn't she say that 20 minutes ago?" Then I go into the only other line, which by now is very long. Only two people prior when I should have got into that line in the first place. Then that second cashier opens a new register allowing 2 people who just walked in to go there. I have to yell why wouldn't you take me first since I have been right next to you for the last 20 minutes? Then she says she was going to. No, she wasn't. This was my first time visiting this Total Wine & More location. While it didn't seem as large as some of the others, they made excellent use of the space. I was warmly greeted with a smile upon entering, and several staff members asked if I needed assistance during my visit. The inventory was impressive, and I spent more time than usual browsing their selection. I discovered a nice Japanese whiskey I hadn't seen before and a high-end bourbon I wanted to try, so I bought both. I'll definitely return if I'm in the area again. read more

So much friendly help at the San Ramon location! I went in to find some organic wine. It is not easy to find options locally. Walked in and was asked if I needed help immediately. I asked the guy and he knew right where to take me. After finding a couple great choices, he even checked in with someone else to be sure he wasn't missing anything. This place also has a great selection of half bottles of wine, with some high end choices. On to find peach margarita mix, and at first we couldn't find any, so I had moved on, but then he came to find me to show me he found some white peach premixed versions. So nice! If you're looking for something special, these guys really know their stuff and go the extra mile to help out. My only complaint is that with all these people around to help, there was only one cashier checking out, so I had to wait a bit to get through the line, but overall a great experience. read more

"Special Sale on Wine Today!" So shouted the nice manager when I walked into the store. Well, two can play that game: "What--Did you say free beer for all customers today?" Well it was worth a try anyway, but he didn't fall for it. I always have a pleasant visit at this business. Today was no exception. I have tried to convince management to get rid of all the wine and fill it up with a million cases of beer, but so far they have not obeyed me. I bet it has something to do with sales. Wine and liquor make up the major part of the store, and it is indeed a bewildering assortment of choices for the alcohol connoisseur. They even have special rooms that have temperature control. You might need to get a special access badge to get in there. I did not ask, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let me in there anyway. They might have cigars in there. They have beer squeezed in the corner. Actually, it's a very large selection of beer-- Okay, okay, it's not really squeezed into the corner but there's a whole lot more options for wine and spirits. Today I was looking for an alternative to the usual light beer. I found a very helpful employee, Noah, who had lots of great ideas for me. I ended up buying three different six packs. He also pointed out some limited-release specials. For example, they have chocolate flavored stout from one of my favorite breweries, Fifty-Fifty in Truckee. Today, however, I passed on the chocolate flavored beer. I'm pretty sure I would not like it. So overall, another good visit. Call me naive, but I'm still hoping they convert the whole store to "Beer City." read more

I've been to this Total Wine & More a few times before. It's always nice and neat, which the bottles are stocked and organized. Lots of selections for your alcohol needs that range from sprits, beer, cocktails, and wine of course! The staff has always been so friendly, they usually approach to see if you need any help or to recommend wines. I appreciate that there are employees picks and there pictures next to them. It makes it much more personable! We had an employee recommend a nice cab today, he was super friendly. Now the cashier was a bit of a different experience and probably the reason why I deducted a star. She had asked for both my ID and my husbands. We are well over the legal drinking age, but she kept examining them intently as if she was skeptical. A slight annoyance, but I was good once we were on our merry way. read more

Went to the San Ramon location to purchase an expensive liquor for a gift and had a few questions about what liquor I should choose. I noticed the Floor staff were too busy scrolling on there smart phones instead of assisting customers. I saw many customers walking around and not finding help. I left and went to Costco. Wonderful Staff Not a huge specialty drinker, but a friend wanted me to ride with him and I'm glad I did. The store is very clean and we were greeted upon entry. A few staff asked us if we needed help while we wondered around the store to find things to try. About half was through our shopping we see a guy laid out on the floor near the registers with no shoes on and two officers standing over him asking, "how much have you had to drink today." We continue shopping and when we get in line, he's still on the floor. Then we see the paramedics come in. Everyone is shopping and carrying on like this is normal. I was a little concerned because of the neighborhood, but maybe this is a normal occurrence. At this time the person who appeared to be a manager told the line "we'll be with you all shortly". And soon after that another cashier apologized and said the same thing. They cleared the line pretty quick for there to be a disturbance. I wasn't paying close attention, then I hear the paramedics say, "we're going to take you to the hospital to get checked out", the man yells "NO!". All while lying on his back and hasn't moved for over 10 min. We checked out and one person paid but all 4 of us were ID'd. No problem. As we loaded the car and drove away, the paramedics seemed to be having a chuckle or two about the situation. read more

This was our first time at this specific Total Wine location in San Ramon. It's pretty standard compared to other Total Wine stores we have previously visited. It's located in a plaza that shares space with Sprouts, Panda Express, Habit Burger, and other establishments with plentiful parking. The store offers a nice variety of wine, champagne, liquor, and beer. Prices are decent and staff was nice. Overall, a solid Total Wine for your next beverage run! read more

When I walked in I was greeted by the manager. This was very warm bc she was counting a register I believe. She took the time out to make eye contact and speak. I had my head down at first looking girl my car keys. However, she spoke three times very gently. Thank you my last experience, first time there was almost my last! She said oh no way no way you have a 30 year old. Melted my heart because if I do say so myself I do 30 I said yes and 53 say no way. Ashley ring me up we made small talk. I told her I had a 21 year old and I did this for her 21st birthday 21 bottles of liquor. I put her initials on each bottle and she's so happy Step 21 letters in her home. And then I put them on this little tray and it looks like a little wedding cake. She said oh I have twins that are turning 21 in August. She says so I will need 42 and we both just laughed! I said yes girl you will need 42 bottles! She said she had a son that was 24 but he didn't like liquor. I said a lot for you I feel you I don't either. And she was just joyful and happy and warm and helpful. Which I didn't experience from the first time when I was there it's not helpful at all. So this made me say I will be back. Total Wine & More is a great addition to the Crow Canyon plaza. It's right off of 680 and is in the same shopping center as Sprouts, Habit Burger and others, which makes stopping at Total Wine very convenient. You can get your grocery shopping and drink shopping done in one trip or grab dinner and get some drinks to take home. Total Wine offers a great mix of wine, beer and liquor. My favorite aisles are the craft beer singles aisle and the seasonal beer aisle. I really enjoy the beer singles selection and how there's a variety of choices from all over California, to several choices from around the country. There's also a dedicated international beer section, which makes it easy and affordable to sample beers from around the world. I like that each beer has a shelf tag with a useful description about the flavor, ABV, brewery location and any beer award points. Total Wine also has a very friendly and informed staff. I've never visited this place without being asked by at least two staff members if there's anything they can recommend or can help me find. One thing I'd love to try here is the wine tasting class. It's definitely on my to-do list. Bonus tip: There's sometimes a clearance cart near the cashiers where you can score some amazing bottles and cans for only a buck or two. read more

I'm a Total Wine & More fan. Interestingly enough, the San Ramon store is the closest, yet I'd never been until recently. I found everything I was looking for, but the layout was really different. The store seemed much smaller than either the Fremont or Pleasanton stores. For that I removed one star. I accidentally bought a wrong item. After packing everything else into my trunk, I went back in with the wrong item and my receipt. They quickly set things right. Add that one star back in. I will more than likely make this my go-to store simply because it's closer and customer service was top notch. read more

My first experience at this Total Wine started off very unexpectedly! My fiance and I went to pick up a bottle of wine last year for a company Christmas party and we were greeted by the wine Tasting station attendant. They were running a sale on a terrific red blend and they let us taste the 3 variations. They were all delicious and we ended up buying a couple of each for multiple holiday parties we planned to attend. My second experience was very seamless! My family was throwing my brother his "Dirty 30" last month and he is a HUGE Modello Especial fan. We bought him a 1/4 keg and paid a deposit for the keg and the tap. Within 2 days, we returned the keg and tap and got all of our deposit back. While we were there we picked up a nice bottle of Teeling Whiskey (see image) to celebrate my passing of my Civil Ebgineering State exams. All the experiences I have had at this location were great and I recommend this location for kegs because their variety is much better than the location in Pleasanton. read more

If they don't have it here, then there's a supply problem and nobody else has it either. Now, not everything is priced at full retail. It's worthwhile to browse around a little bit and see what they do have marked down. Try something new! On this visit, I was looking for a small bottle of Grand Marnier. Costco only has one size, huge. I just needed a few tablespoons for our special Thanksgiving Cranberry Sauce. I asked for directions and the staff pointed me to the right shelf almost instantly. The selection here? 50ml, 200ml, 375ml, and 750ml. Saved me so much time not having to run around searching for it. read more

The San Ramon stores rating slipped on this last visit. It feels like this once amazing shopping paradise has been sold. The first thing I encountered was the manager smoking out in front of the entrance so everyone gets to enjoy his cigarette smoke. Second, the store was messy and cluttered. Third I couldn't find Pendleton Wiskey on the shelf so I let the checker know and you would have thought I asked him for his kidney. No help at all. I did not by the Pendleton there. For years, even before I turned 21 I would go into vineyards, wine and liquor stores with my mom. Now that I'm 21, going on 22 I still go to all of those places with my mom so I can help carry her stuff out, but I really don't have an interest in drinking. Today I went into Total Wine with my mom to by a 12 pack of Peroni beer because their price beats everyone else. What I didn't expect was to be asked for my ID even tho I wasn't the one purchasing it. . . . The last time this happened I was 18 and in the Bible Belt/North Carolina. I'm sorry but if I wasn't 21, they wouldn't have sold my mom the pack of beer. Since when is California turning into the Bible Belt?!?! I won't be back anytime soon. And if this is how they're acting with me, then I feel bad for the rest of the parents who go in with their children who are educating them about alcohol, in an environment that respects it. I've been a big fan of Total Wine in general. I go to the one in Fremont on occasions as I sometimes need something for a get together or just wanting to stock up on some of the sweet wines. I recently got an email that one of the sweet wines I buy was on sale for $10.99 so I needed to get this for my Happy Hour get together with my friends! Glad this location existed as it's close to work. This Total Wine took over a spot in the Crow Canyon Plaza on the east side of 680. Same plaza with the Rite Aid, Jamba Juice, Shred415, etc. There's plenty of parking so it's really not hard to just park right in front of the store. I walked in and although it felt a little smaller than the location in Fremont and also the fridged wines and beers were smaller in collection, they still had a good chunk of wines, spirits, and beers. I would highly recommend checking out the website first to make sure they have what you want in stock as I know the one in Fremont has a larger selection than what they had here. My luck I already did that and I knew they had my Relusso Rosso Frizzante. That's right folks...a sweet slightly bubbly wine that's GREAT with chocolate cake by the way. I discovered this last night with my buds. You can still taste the alcohol, but it's deeper and richer in berry flavors than other sweet wines. Really easy to drink. Another one we absolutely love is the Stella Black sweet red sparkling wine. These two are the closest we can get to the Castello di Amorosa's La Fantasia which is heaven. Any ways, I easily walked in, found my wines, grabbed another one that looked interesting, purchased my bottles and walked on out though I didn't know why they didn't wrap them in paper but hey, I saved a tree. A good alternative to BevMo which doesn't carry the Relusso and they're not too far apart from each other. read more

So glad to see Total Wine & More expand and open up locations in the Tri-Valley and in Fremont! This particular location took over the old Sports Authority and is located to the left of Orchard Supply Hardware and Sprouts. There's plenty of parking in this shopping plaza. The store is clean and the aisles are clearly marked describing what beverage is sold there. If you select this location the website on your phone and search for a product, it will tell you where it's located in the store. The employees here are visibly around and always willing to help or provide a recommendation. I found their prices to be a tad lower than BevMo but their selection is much greater! read more

I was searching the online sites of the two large Bay Area wine and spirits stores for a liqueur for a birthday gift. Total Wine had it for 17.5% less than its rival and the store in San Ramon had the liqueur in a gift pack. I placed the order and 33 minutes later, I received an email that my order was ready for pickup. I've been to Total Wines to browse and was amazed with the large selections of wine, beer and spirits. I was checking out the wines and notices that they carried basic wines up to the high end reserves. What amazed me was that they even had wine from small boutique wineries that you could only normally buy at the winery. This store is located in the Crow Canyon Plaza, a large shopping plaza with ample parking. Upon entering, I was greeted and I stated that I had an online pickup. She directed me to the right to the Online Order Pick-up Desk. I showed the clerk my pickup email and she pulled my order from the shelf. I signed a received receipt and was on my way. I was happy to find the liqueur and it was in a gift pack too. And it was 17.5% less than the other competitor. When we visit total wine, we typically have an excellent customer service experience -- this institution's hallmark is a phenomenal customer service experience. Today, on 2/27/2021 at approximately 7:20PM PT we visited the San Ramon shopping center to visit Sprouts and Total wine. Our ladies went to Sprouts, and my friend and I both went into Total wine to pick up some spirits. Unfortunately my friend (who is 32, I am 32 as well) were both rudely kicked out of the store by an absolutely crass and rude manager Larry for my buddy not having his ID (his lady had it in her purse). We did not offend nor did we speak back when we were kicked out, I will say we were both minorities in a store and felt we were unfairly treated. I expressed it was not the rules we were upset with, rather the classless, poor and condescending delivery of the store manager Larry. Our cashier Alma was very polite and apologetic, however this review is primarily focused on the store manager Larry. We feel this manager's behavior is the antithesis of good customer service, and after asking for an apology and a discount we were refused both. I mentioned I'd write about it and this heavyset fellow with a goatee (we only mention physical characteristics in the event Larry is not the name of this person to facilitate identification) just said "go ahead" in a very crass way. Every employee in this store typically exemplifies extraordinary customer service, we wanted to make it clear to prospective customers and executive management that this person should not be employed within such a highly rated institution.
