We stayed at the hotel this past weekend and overall, our rooms were great -- clean, comfortable, and the AC/heating worked perfectly. Unfortunately, our experience at the hotel restaurant, Bishop Grill, wasn't nearly as good. We went down for breakfast around 9:30 a.m. and it was clear they were understaffed. No one seated us for quite a while, so we ended up sitting at a table that still had dirty plates on it. Eventually, a very kind waiter came by, cleaned the table, and took our orders. He was upfront that the kitchen was backed up and food might take 20-25 minutes. We ordered simple breakfast items, but our food didn't come out for almost an hour -- and when it did, it was cold. The avocado toast was tiny, and the bacon was so hard it was tough to bite into. For the price, the quality and wait time just weren't worth it. The waiter did his best, but the overall experience was disappointing. We won't be eating there again. read more

I haven't been here in awhile, but I've usually had good experiences dining here. Tonight I came here alone while my wife was with some friends. There was a conference going on, so it was fairly busy in the restaurant. I was greeted by Cynthia, who provided me with exceptional service throughout the evening. She was the highlight of this particular dining experience. I ordered the fish tacos and a bowl of bacon clam chowder. The prices were reasonable. I had the fish tacos first and while I enjoyed the tacos, they weren't very filling and there were hardly any chips. The salsa also looked and tasted identical to Pace bottled salsa. Seems like they might be cutting corners. The bacon clam chowder had some nice flavors to it, but it was far too salty. I felt like I was eating sea water at times and it was challenging to finish it. I drank so much water to compensate for the added salt. That was probably the saltiest chowder I ever had. In summary, the food was mediocre. I would come back here again because I enjoy the ambiance and the service is usually quite nice. Cynthia was a great server and went out of her way to try to get some crackers for me for the soup, but she couldn't find any. No big deal - the soup was too salty anyway. I would recommend trying this restaurant if you're in the area. Don't go out of your way, but the food is acceptable, priced fairly, and better than eating fast food. I just wish they wouldn't cut corners on the small details that make a big difference. read more

Bishop Grill is located inside the Marriott hotel so it's super convenient... However the menu is extremely limited and it took forever to order a to go entrée even though I was sitting at the bar. Do yourself a favor and drive a mile or so to find far better fare. read more

4.5 stars! Cynthia was the most amazing server and hostess. Such a pleasure and a joy to talk to, and she made me feel right at home. For dinner I ordered the mixed green salad (adding avocado and hard-boiled egg) as well as an order of Korean BBQ wings. The salad was full of fresh, delicious greens, tart slices of green apple, blue cheese crumbles and candied pecans. Yum! I wish the avocado was cut into chunks instead of served as thick slices though, but that's just personal preference. I'd rather not have to knife-and-fork my salad (I'm clumsy!). I enjoyed the wings, even though I received an order of buffalo instead of Korean BBQ. Cynthia offered to have an order of Korean BBQ made for me, but the buffalo wings were so good (not too spicy and not too much sauce) that I decided to stick with them. Had the quinoa bowl with tofu. Probably the worst meal I've had in a Marriott hotel. It's like high school cafeteria food that's cooked the batches. No flavor and all greens were yellow by the time it gets to the table. The bartender was very pretty rude. Do yourself a favor and walk to city center for better food. read more

Hubby was in the mood for some elegance so we migrated over to the Marriott where we've stopped in for drinks and apps awhile back. The company I work for always holds their holiday parties here. Lunch was very good. The salmon was moist, seasoned perfectly served w a grilled lemon halve which went great over the entire dish. They also accommodated my substitution for squash with green veggies (thankfully) and a side of jasmine rice (since there was no pilaf available). Hubby's shrimp scampi was really good, the pasta was seasoned perfectly and you could tell the chef sautéed the pasta w fresh garlic. Shrimp were huge and plentiful for a lunch serving. We ended w a bit of dessert and a latte (since they did have almond milk (gratefully) another substitution for regular milk). Our server apologized for not having a clean table available immediately and cleaned the table for us. We realize we're in a place where there is a convention this weekend and travelers are sitting throughout the room. Every employe greeted us from the entrance of the hotel all the way to the restaurant, we've always enjoyed frequenting our local Marriott. read more

The service is top notch at this Marriott hotel restaurant. It is clearly evident that Marriott trains their staff to offer the best customer service. Started dinner with waffle crab cakes, named because they use a waffle iron to prepare these crab-filled gems. Served w/a jicama/mango slaw, they (2) could easily be a meal if you ordered a salad to go with them. Had the shrimp scampi served w/6 jumbo prawns. My bff had a rice bowl, also w/ prawns and lots of veggies. Don't turn your nose down at hotel food, this place is good! read more

Christmas Day 2019. Not a lot of places open, so friend and I tried Bishop Grill in the San Ramon Marriott Hotel at 1:00 PM for lunch. Neither of us had been there in ages, since it was called Stix. This would have been a 3 star review (kind of cold décor/ambiance and limited menu). But several things earned the 4 stars. It was Christmas Day - small staff. First the SERVICE - a busser coming out of the kitchen (name Saw?) watched us hesitate and immediately played host and showed us to our choice of tables. Bartender/server (Tan) managed bringing menus, cheerfully explaining options, taking orders, delivering food with Saw AND tending bar! Both of them with friendly smiles. FOOD - We both got the Marriott Burger - decent, nothing special - meat done as requested. I added sautéed mushrooms and that brought price to $20! For a burger and soup! But, OH, the SOUP! A creamy white bean and ham soup that was absolutely DELICIOUS! OMG it was SO good! A perfect Christmas soup. Tan also made me a perfectly delicious Manhattan. It had a Luxardo cherry! Do you know how expensive those are? Such a treat. Helped ease the pain of the $14 cost of the Manhattan. I would go back for another of Tan's Manhattans! So 3 stars for ambiance/burger and 5 stars for the excellent service, the bean soup and Manhattan = 4 stars. Being in the 'burbs, we're slow getting used to San Francisco prices. At least Bishop Grill validates parking - so be sure to get your ticket validated. Kudos and thank you to both the back of house (OMG that white bean & ham soup!) and the two guys (Tan and Saw) working front. And the valet parking and hotel check-in desk folks who greeted us like you were glad to see us. Staying at the hotel. I travel every week. I typically only comment when I feel short changed. I should probably give more kudos where due. (See the update at the bottom of the page. ) They have a couple nice IPAs on tap. I ordered the best steak they had; a cowboy ribeye. Sounded enticing. Very disappointing and because of my following description, very over priced. More than $35. The steak was luke warm, came with a smiggen of mashed potatoes, and, although the ribeye is suppose to be well marbled it was very fatty/grissel. Sat at the bar. Wait staff was friendly but not very attentive and never even asked about the food. Maybe he was distracted. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt. I going to stay, during some beer and try something else after a while as I'm still hungry. Update: As I sat here, the management read my yelp review and was exhaustively wanting to make it right. Wow, that's responsive. I wasn't even asking for any concessions but they took it off my bill anyway. That's real service. The topper was that The food service was horrible. We ate one of our meals and the server didn't even come to check on us to find out that our steak was well done. Came here for the Mother's Day Brunch - I had to book this at the last minute since our out of town plans got cancelled. 9 AM reservation and they were not letting people be seated until about 9:05. I finally figured out that they opened at 9 and just were not ready. They could have said, we are still setting up, but instead just said, please wait 5 minutes. We finally get our seats and we are through our first plates of food when we have to catch a manager to get a server to come over to get our drink orders. Our server claimed there was a mixup in who got what tables and we were somehow left out. I counted at least four managers running around - apparently they were less concerned about customer service. Not the best start and certainly not something that you would expect at $40 per person! Some of the good stuff - eggs benedict was very good. Nice light hollandaise sauce. Mussels and king crab - nice and fresh. Omelette station had plenty of options. Not so good - no prime rib (it was advertised on their menu), only turkey and lamb. A strange layout of food - They moved an omelette station and the cold seafood during the serving time. Not the biggest selection, although they had some nice salmon available for bagels. Seems like they prepped for a fixed seating time because we were the last ones in the restaurant by 10:30. Instead of the ebb and flow of multiple seatings, it appears they wanted to seat people all at once, even though the staff could not deal with the crush. Overall, this place was just okay. It worked in a pinch. My preference for Mother's Day would have been Scott's Seafood in Walnut Creek (more $$ but worth the expense) or Eddie Papa's in Pleasanton. read more

Came here for my girlfriends birthday and I'm glad we did. When we pulled up couldn't believe that it was in a hotel. I thought it wasn't going to have a classy look. As soon as you walk in the restaurant is directly in the back and it looked amazing very classy. I actually kinda felt under dressed. The staff made us feel right at home seated quickly and the waitress quickly took are orders for drinks. The staff was very attentive and we never had an empty glass. The food I ordered the steak asked for medium rare. Came out perfectly. Everything was delicious being local and always looking for a great place with great food and cocktails. I will be comming back and I will be recommending this establishment to my family and friends. read more

That being said the mixed drinks (had an old fashioned) was basically a cherry crushed with some whiskey poured over. I understand its a hotel bar but the marriot in Santa Clara and their Parcel Bar is doing things right with making drinks the way they are supposed to be made. Food was alright/good nothing too great would recommend the hummus(get an extra pits serving along with it) Tam the bar tender was awesome, but i wish they had trained him better on the drinks, his personality and attention to every customer made me forget the drink was subpar. read more

We arrived kind of late in the evening and needed a quick bite before heading to bed. We had a early 6am flight. We sat at the bar waiting a while for the bartender to turn around and help us. We were understanding because she was chatting it up with other guest, so we just waited around patiently. I think we sat there for about 10-15 minutes and I started searching for other places to eat around the unfamiliar area. Most of the restaurants were closing soon so as we were getting antsy she finally greeted us. So we just stayed there because all the other restaurants were fast food chains. Eventually another guy at the bar showed up and he was amazing. He really did take care of us. He asked us how our soup was and if everything tasted okay. For a restaurant in a hotel, they serve pretty high quality food. I'm honestly rather impressed. Their brunch buffets for Easter, Father's Day, etc... are the times we end up there the most. Moderately priced for holiday brunch buffets (which I really can't say for other local restaurants). We will find ourselves here every once in a while for breakfast other than for their buffets. Staying at this Hotel and I didn't feel like going out so, despite my earlier lunch experience, I decided to give Bishop Grill a 2nd chance for a salad and a drink. First, thank you to the Manager who personally contacted me regarding my earlier review - he apologized and removed the charges from my bill even though I did not expect and/or ask or expect anything like that - class act right there. Tonight's experience was so much better. Danillo (server) was excellent and attentive. The tomato burrata salad was very good and the martini was well made. The ambience on the patio is therapeutic especially as the sun is setting. Glad I gave this spot a 2nd chance and just based on the interaction with the Manager and 2nd server alone I would come back on my next visit. read more

Stayed here at the San Ramon Marriott for 10 nights. I looked forward to eating here nearly every night. The Salmon was incredible. I ordered this twice during my stay. The presentation was very good. Gourmet is the best way to describe. I saw some other reviews indicating a "lack of acknowledgement" by the wait staff. This might be due to the fact it's a self-seating restaurant. The Hummus and Guacamole were both great appetizers. The grilled chicken sandwich was very tasty. Ellen, on of the bartenders, was very helpful and friendly. She got to remember my name and what I liked to order. If I return to San Ramon, I will most definitely eat lunch or dinner at the Bishop. read more

Very generic hotel bar/restaurant. The beer selection was pretty poor and my Anchor was flat. None of the drafts had any head. The truffle fries were decent but those are pretty hard to mess up. The environment was modern but not comfortable. It is what it is...a generic hotel bar but I wouldn't go there if given a choice. read more

This review is for the Mother's Day buffet. First, the ambience was a disappointment considering it was Mother's Day. The least they could have done is put tablecloths over the tables so that it doesn't look like a nice cafe. Mothers ARE special, right? Not so at the Marriott. I thought the Marriott would have had the buffet in one of their elegant event rooms where they hold wedding ceremonies. THIS is what moms deserve. Additionally, they said there would be "live entertainment." The "live entertainment" consisted of one guy playing the guitar, with his hat out for tips. Classy....NOT. Second, the food. It was just ok. Nothing special and not such a big selection. The deserts were better the main dishes. Won't be going there again. read more

We loved the food and the service! Simone, our waitress was delightful and gave us wonderful food suggestions that made our meal a great experience. The wine list was great, as was the salmon! We ended our meal with the chocolate lava cake (suggested by Simone) and it was the best dessert I have had in ages! Definitely try it! read more
