Remember, this place has been around for 119 years and it has always been "cash only". Signs everywhere indicating so (and there is an ATM inside) yet Yelp reviewers still whine about it. I guess if you are living on your credit cards it makes sense. How do you complain about a $7 healthy Jamison pour, when Norms, Auburn or Primo's is $12 to $14 ea. and a smaller pour. read more

I have no idea how this place is still operating if the bartenders are the normal bartenders. But the male bartender I guess I heard his name is Nick was so rude, unprofessional and mean. He talked to us the whole time like we were a bother and was super passive aggressive. Horrible experience literally go anywhere else this place is packed somehow and the bartenders seem to not want to bartend no matter how good you tip them. Will gladly never be back here. Elliot's is hands down the best local dive in the area. The staff is amazing, the prices are great, and it's been my go-to spot for years to play games and catch up with friends. The bartenders and door staff are always professional and friendly, which makes the atmosphere even better. Gaby, Clayton, Nick and Rob are absolutely hilarious, and make excellent drinks every time. This review is long overdue. This place has been crap for far too long. I miss the bartenders from years ago. The male bartender obviously hates his life and needs to seek help. He's always in a horrible mood and straight up disrespects customers at every chance. I have stopped by too many times and they are closed but they are supposed to be open. This final time, I came in after working a long shift and I never got acknowledged or served. They sure had no problem serving all the sloppy drunks more drinks while I waited. The only cool dude there is the security guy. Out of respect for its history, I'll give it two stars. If it wasn't for that, then I'd give it one star. One last thing. Rude & dishonest bartender. Went to have drinks with a friend because we saw their sign advertising $5 well drinks. Bartender had an attitude even though the bar wasn't very busy. We ordered two drinks and handed over $10 and the bartender told us "I need $13" and shook his head at us. We figured we missed the promotion and that was fine. We gave him $13 and then additionally tipped. Ordered another round of the same exact drinks and a different bartender and he charged us $10- this is when we realized that the promotion was correct and the first bartender had essentially demanded a tip from us & kept the additional tip. I had an extremely unpleasant experience here due to the bartender's behavior. I ordered a $4 drink and was in the process of pulling out more money from my purse to order additional drinks when there was an issue over an 8-cent tip. Before I could even finish getting my money out, the bartender said "no," became aggressive, cussed me out, and then threw my drink against the wall after taking some of my money. I was shocked by how fast the situation escalated and how unprofessional and hostile the response was. Tips are optional, and even if there's a misunderstanding, no customer should ever be treated this way or have their drink destroyed after payment. This was completely unacceptable behavior in a service environment. I won't be returning, and I'd strongly caution others who expect basic respect and professionalism. read more

This was hands down one of the worst bar experiences I've ever had. The bartender, Gabby, was unbelievably rude and hostile. I ordered a lemon drop and instead of doing her job, she told me bartenders "hate making lemon drops" and demanded that I pick something else. That is not how you treat paying customers. I then ordered a High Noon, and she completely lost it. She started yelling at me over not tipping -- even though tipping is NOT mandatory and she refused to make the first drink I asked for. The entitlement and aggression were unreal. What made this even worse was watching her scream at another customer minutes later, telling them to "get the f*** out of her bar." The entire environment felt chaotic, uncomfortable, and unprofessional. No bartender should be yelling at customers like that. This place seriously needs to reevaluate who they have working behind the bar. As long as she's there, I will never come back -- and I strongly suggest others think twice read more

Used to be a favorite place for an after dinner drink or meeting spot. Unfortunately the bartender working there is a complete jerk. I moved out of the area 5 years ago, went in for old times sake. Watch your money people! 2 beers does not cost $39.00. If you give the bartender more than $20 bill they keep the change. When asked about where the rest of the money is, the answer is you gave me a $20. If you keep asking to talk to someone about it they kick you out, and then make up stories about you. Oh and if you ask them to look at the camera footage, they will say they did, even though we have seen where the cameras point, and it's nowhere near where the $50 bill that sat on the counter for a good 10 minutes and was, the only cash we had. I wonder how much extra money he goes home with every night! read more

I grew up in San Ramon and recently moved back. I came here twice. The drinks are decent, friendly bartenders and reasonably priced. The two times I've been have been completely dead and I went on Thursdays in the evening between 7-9. They also only accept cash. A small cash only bar with a behind the counter cooler, circa 1889 and spunk. We were grateful to the patrons that moved barstools, so we could sit together. The hooks for purses are a nice touch. They have two screens playing sports, a couple of video games, and two shuffle boards. $4 for a rum & Coke, served up in the smallest bar glass I've ever seen but they are strong. Came in around 10pm, everyone that was in the bar left and it was me and my buddy so we used the jukebox to put on some heavy metal. Apparently the bartender didn't enjoy the music because when a few other people came in he got visibly annoyed and proclaimed that he was gonna change the music. He was short with us after that. We paid $15 bucks for some tunes, which were all skipped by said bartender. Either change the settings on the jukebox or make the customers pay extra to skip our songs. Probably one of the worst business to attend too. I came in today because my blood sugar was low and needed some coke. I ask the bar attendant that my blood sugar is low and I need some soda the only way I can pay you is with Apple Pay. The business and his customers laughed at me if I was kidding, I was confused like what business don't take credit cards but only cash, especially in the heart of Danville. He ask me that the ATM is in the back or bring cash. He laughed and the customers and I walked out. Amazing bar! I love how their shuffle board is free, as long as you hand over your car keys. I ordered a long Island and my boyfriend ordered a Moscow mule and the total price for those two drinks was under $20. I'm not sure if it's because we came around a happy hour time but I was incredibly amazed and my boyfriend and I had such a fun time here. I do not recommend this location to my fellow veterans. I came here, out of the blue with my friend. I had my military ID on me because I knew I wanted to go out and drink. So, responsibly, I wasn't going to drive. Losing my husband 4 years ago, fighting for this country, I needed just a good time out because it was his birthday. The "bouncer" viewed my ID and was adamant about me having a drivers license. I reminded him that my ID is a government ID and that it states my age. I didn't want to give him a harder time so I asked for my ID back and instead of handing it back, he was rude, disrespectful and made the evening worse than it should have been. He yelled at me while handing me back my ID and I reminded him that I will gladly take my business elsewhere. read more

Drinks are on the cheaper side compared to other places in town but don't go asking for some fancy libation. Here you will find great prices and a strong crown n coke or a heavy handed shot of tequila. It's cash only and somewhat dark inside. No kitchen but if I remember correctly they have bags of chips for sale occasionally. Location is great as it is right in downtown.
