Orient Express has been around since the 90s. I remember coming here with friends back in my college years. Honestly, I thought this place was no longer operating until I had breakfast with George F. next door. Out of nostalgia, I decided to revisit this longstanding business on 06/07/2025 after a 30-plus year hiatus. I got here at around 6pm and it wasn't too busy. The interior pretty much looked the same since my visit. The original owner was long gone. I picked up a couple items - a large order of salt and pepper fish and a large order of sweet and sour pork. The total was a reasonable $25. Out of the two items, the fish was clearly the better one. The pieces were crispy on and flaky (disclosure: I put them in my air fryer after getting home since I had to make an additional stop prior), and the seasoning was alright. The sweet and sour pork, on the other hand, was very disappointing. The meat was dry and tough, and the sauce was neither sweet nor sour. Also, the way it was made was none that I had seen before. They used cut up pork cubes instead of battered and deep-fried pork nuggets. Portions were huge. We had a ton of leftovers. Overall, this is definitely a place to visit if you value quantity over quality. Personally, I would come back for the salt and pepper fish but definitely not the sweet and sour pork. 2.5 rounding up to 3 stars. read more

It's affordable and they give you large portions! They DO NoT skimp! I came in craving for their salt and pepper chicken so I ordered a 2 item meal with that, half n half fried rice and chow mein and zucchini chicken but I noticed that they added salt n pepper prawns and honey walnut prawns to their items line for $2+ more. Here are the items I tried: Salt and pepper chicken 3.5/5 Taste is good but since they do sit in the tray they're not as crispy. Hot tofu 4/5 Not that spicy at all. Like mapo tofu without the pork. I like it a lot Bbq pork 3.5/5 It's extra $1 to add it to the box. Taste is good. It's not as fatty which I like but there's a bit of a strong gamey taste to it. Not sure why. Well this is a huge bummer... I've been eating at Orient Express since I was a kid. The hot and sour soup was treated as medicine when I would get sick growing up where I would tell my parents I just needed it to get better! lol. I knew they had sold, and I hope the family who sold it are having a wonderful retirement, but god I wish the people who bought it had kept it up. I went today and got some hot and sour soup, a two entree combo, and an egg roll. The egg roll is absolutely rancid and inedible. When you're frying something, if the oil isn't hot enough the item you're frying just absorbs all the oil. This would be bad enough if it hadn't absorbed all this oil that tastes like it hasn't been cleaned in 100 years. Disgusting. They still overfill your container which might feel like a great deal. Until you taste it. You can taste flour or cornstarch in every item, including the chow mein (?). But the soup... Wow. I am so sad about the soup. It's a gelatinous blob (again, too much cornstarch) with little to no flavor. I added a bunch of my own white pepper and black vinegar to give it some taste but it's crazy to have to use so much of my own ingredients at home to make something taste just barely ok. Especially when you have a limit of 2 on your soy sauce packets. The old Orient Express could get away with the stinginess because the food was good. This one is just sad and bleak. Orient Express is always a solid choice for my family. Whether we're craving salt-and-pepper chicken or just want a meal with huge portions, It seems to be my expert choice. For starters, I want to point out the portion sizes. The one entree choice is so large that I can share it with my son, or I can even do the two entree choices, and it feeds my son, me, and my husband. The idea that I can feed a family of 3.5 for under $10 just seems unheard of nowadays. Also, I love that the worker there allows us to do half chow mein and half fried rice. The staff here is very friendly, cheerful, and always eager to serve customers. As a kicker, they also have very good pricing for party trays. Whenever we do potlucks or are hosting a party of 30+, we always get a few trays to feed our guests and they are always very happy to see that we catered Orient Express. This was when the adjacent Safeway store had a Chinese food service inside the store. I remember when this location changed hands too. There were noticeable changes for the worse at that time but were tolerable for an mediocre lunch or dinner. NOT anymore! The potstickers are now smaller almost entirely cabbage and reheated from the day before. Do they really think people won't notice? They do. The kung pow chicken had old celery which also contained unpleasant tops and end parts. They used to have a small table you could eat at inside (granted, it wasn't much but it had a quaint 'hole in the wall' vibe which I like). I bought the kung pow with chow mien and potstickers with a tip was over $22! The kiosk prompts a tip (normal for most business now) and I gave 15% because I wasn't sure about it yet. This is painful to write. I've come here for over 20 years. My kids grew up coming here with me. I was friends with the owners. But the last two visits have been horrible. The sweet and sour pork is bone dry. I can't find actual meat in the lemon chicken. What is still good? The fried rice! I mean, it's not a quality dish overcooked. My coworker told me about this place and said this place is a must!! Best Chinese food in town! Honestly it doesn't look like much but it's really delicious and a quick grab and go. The ownership has changed but the food pretty much stayed the same but I think the recipes might of been improved. $10-$15 will get you a LOT of food that could feed you for a day or two. My favorite is the BBQ Pork which is only available after 4pm and is limited in quantity. It is very good! They also have a BBQ chicken option available at the same time. read more
