My favorite Chinese food. I have been coming here since I was a kid, and it is an absolute staple. The service is excellent, the owner was nice enough to give me the option of waiting 5 min for fresh hot chow mein. I couldn't pass up a fresh plate of noodles, so of course, I gladly waited. When the noodles were ready, she LOADED my entree box with so much food, it was absolutely delicious. The food has not changed all these years and I will always be a happy loyal customer to this staple. They are very very hard working and the food you get is definitely a great bang for your buck in today's economy. Very nice ambiance as well, brings back my childhood. They are located in a shopping plaza shared with Safeway. Parking is plentiful. Outside of the weekday lunch rush, Orient is usually never too busy, and if there is a line outside the door it moves quickly. For $7.10 you can get their one-entree combo, which comes with chow mein or fried rice, and the choice of one of their entrees. Their two most popular entrees are the salt and pepper chicken and lemon chicken. My personal favorite is the salt and pepper chicken! It is super crunchy on the outside, and moist and juicy on the inside. The lemon chicken is also great, but sometimes the sauce can be a bit overpowering. The portions here are massive. For $7.10 you will walk away with two-servings. You can also opt to get their mini-box, which comes with two small entrees and chow mein or fried rice for $6.85. This is enough for one-serving. Orient is a straight take-out spot, so plan on taking to-go. In my experience I've always witnessed great customer service here. They are a family business and commonly reference customers by name. If they are running out of something, they will make a fresh batch for you, even at closing! So don't be afraid to ask. If you are looking for something a little more health-conscious, head to Poke Don in the same plaza, because Orient isn't going to be the place for you. I have to give this place a great review. We have been coming here quite regularly for about 10 years. The owners are sweet and generous. When you get a box of food, they stuff the box with as much as they can. When it comes to feeding a hungry family, we appreciate their generosity. We ordered food for 120 from their catering menu one time, and I swear, they gave us enough food for at least 150 people! The pricing is extremely reasonable. They have always been very fair. Tips: - For quick take-out, they have a limited selection in the steam table, ready to go. If you want something that is not in the steam table, it's best to call 10-15 minutes ahead. - The Salt & Pepper Chicken/Fish comes with sliced jalapenos. If you don't like spicy, it's still good. Just ask for no peppers. - You can add 1 or 2 pot stickers or egg rolls to your order, since they are priced per piece. Your not stuck with an order of 5 or 6, like at some other places. - They are closed on Sundays. I have been coming here for too many years to count. They have had their good and bad days. Since the new ownership has happened -- most things have stayed the same. But I have noticed that there is limited veggies now. They used to have the steamed veggies out and now, you basically have to beg to get them made. They have decent wonton soup too, but also something you need to order. Service is always fast and quick. They run a very efficient operation, even after the new ownership. This is not a sit down restaurant or even your regular Panda Express -- it gives you great portions to eat elsewhere. Omg, finally found one of the holy grails of restaurants! That hole in the wall, grimey af Chinese restaurant that gives you massive portion sizes while also being decent in taste. So happy to have found one of these restaurants close to home! Like I just said, portion size is incredibly generous. You'll order and watch the worker put your food into the tray, and then they'll just keep adding more and more and more spoonfuls of food onto the tray. You know how Panda Express puts half a spoonful of chicken onto your plate and it's depressing getting 4 pieces only to eat? Complete opposite here. This place has great service! When the rice was running low for the customer in front of me, the employee said he would get the customer fresh rice from the back. As it came to my turn, my takeout was filled to the brim, just the way I like it. Overall, I felt very welcomed and the prices are reasonable. Great price and huge portions! They give you way more than any other Chinese restaurant I have been too.! might be a little more on the greasy side but better than the other places.. Its definitely made for a pick up only style they have a few chairs inside but its right next to door and not to comfy . so I wouldn't plan on sitting inside if you are coming here,.,. But there is some common what looks like high school tables out side in the middle of the quad that are available someone times which makes it nicer to sit at if its a sunny day outside.. and FYI they do not do phone orders for orders of one.. I found that out the hard, way.. they let me do a phone order over the phone and when I got there they didn't have it ready and told me next time you cant do phone orders for one.. I was like ok well you could of just told me that when I was calling .. I think they just want to push people in and out very fast.. but anyways the Lemon chicken is my favorite on the menu with chow main.. Their spicy tofu, filling pot stickers, and zesty lemon chicken are all so satisfying to eat. Also, I can't forget to mention their crunchy egg rolls or crispy and savory fried fish (+$1). I have literally tried everything on their menu, and I can attest that it is all traditionally prepared and simply amazing. "Beware of the Orient Express," is what I'll have to say to myself when I come back. I got the two item combo for $5.67 (two entrees and fried rice). This place is tiny, but serves heaping portions. They do not hold back from heaping the rice and food into the styrofoam container. The place is small and had a line out the door when we came. There are two small tables inside, but don't bother sitting indoors. If it's a nice day, hope to grab one of the tables outside, otherwise this is a take-out place. I got the salt and pepper chicken and the black bean chicken with zucchini. I thought I wasn't going to finish and portionize the food. There was enough to feed about 3-4 people in just one container. Even my nomtastic friend asked me, "Are you seriously going to finish that?" I kept going thinking it would definitely be a bad idea, but kept on going. I finished it and I feel like a tub of lard (a crunchy awesome piece of lard). The salt and pepper chicken felt like it needed more pepper. The black bean chicken was ok. I'm giving this place a 4 just because of the fast, cheap and quantity of the food. I just need to make sure to get the mini express container and save that $1 and stomach space. I ended up getting a Rite-Aid ice cream afterwards. When the employees start to recognize you as a regular, the portions get bigger. I have never had any problems with the female cashier being rude; actually, she calls me by name (maybe because I'm a regular?). Matter of fact, I have seen customers give her attitude.
