Where Modern meets Americanized Chinese food. FOOD: Dramatic uptick in prices within 5 months. Lunch used to be all the same prices (except for solely veggies) and now they are varied prices. Ordered WALNUT SHRIMP which was delicious (but taste and flavor is not anything unique, special or extraordinarily). Also ordered BLACK PEPPER WAYGU BEEF which I now don't know the difference between regular beef since every one seems to call every beef "Waygu" these days. I liked the flavor but I didn't like the bite of these chunks of beef. It was tough and rough. Strangely had green snow peas which isn't the typical. Soup can't be picked. Egg roll can't be picked. Salad can't be picked. Had three options of white rice, fried rice, and chow mein. SERVICE: Overall wasn't very helpful BUT would provide his own personal preference if you gave him options to pick from. Had to ask directing questions. Didn't do much as a whole bottle of water was left at your disposal. Tea costs money. Asked "how is it" once. Messed up the order but corrected it with no extra charge. Different individual brought out the dishes. AMBIANCE: To me, this location was romantically lit and wasn't too loud. However, it definitely geared towards elderly Caucasians. Host wasn't Asian which made it equally strange but interesting because didn't know the simplest of Mandarin. Definitely not a place for someone who is hungry let alone on a budget or in need of a translator. Would I come back? Honestly no because there's much tastier Asian food at a fraction of the price.

Amazing food!!!! We loved everything we got especially the general tsos chicken. Great portion sizes as well. The service was solid - food comes out quickly and the prices are reasonable for the quality and portion size. The tables are a little close together we were kind of on top of the table next to us.

Wow! Blown away! Amazing food!!! Moody and cozy ambiance. Hosts were kind and inviting. The food!!!!! Absolutely delicious! This food is fresh, the best ingredients, and well presented. I am not a fish eater and their slay and pepper fish appetizer was so crispy and melt in your mouth yummy! The only thing I would change is a larger portion. The food is pricy because it's so good and the best ingredients, so a little more would be amazing of course. It is family style for dinner which is really great! So you will need 3-4 dishes for a family of four. Counting down the days until I can come back!

Be prepared for this restaurant to be very crowded on a Saturday night! It's super popular! The only downside to that is the restaurant itself is small. So tables are very crammed together. I wouldn't recommend going here if you're hard of hearing or sensitive to loud noises. You do have to talk very loud to hear your party. As for the food - I tried the potstickers 8/10 (I've had better) Honey walnut shrimp has a different type of fried batter and I felt it needed more sauce. 5/10 Specialty fried fish with a sweet sauce and pine nuts was delicious 8/10 Fried rice was the STAR 10/10! Service was fantastic our waiter he looked like the guy from love island TV show Pepe so we had a laugh out of that. Lastly, be prepared to spend a lot of money. More than other local Chinese restaurants. This is definitely an upscale Chinese restaurant so the dishes start at around $22 each. Overall- I would definitely give this restaurant another try and order dumplings, eggplant & fried rice!!

    Broccoli Chow fun

We were the first to arrive at 5 so the place was just opening. The ambiance was bright, fresh, open and full of light because of the large windows and the open wall to the patio. A perfect spot on this lovely spring evening. We tried one appetizer and three dishes. The appetizer, Spicy Wontons in Red Oil wasn't what I expected, my bad, for some reason I was thinking fried won tons but it was more of tiny deflated balloon like dumplings. They were OK, we ate them all but they were not as spicy or have the bold flavor I wanted. Next was Chow Fun with Chinese Broccoli stems. The stems were large, not uniformly cut, more scrap like, just odd and sparse. They added nothing to the dish. I've only had chow fun with beef so maybe the beef is what adds the flavor. I loved the texture of the noodles but began to think this cuisine wasn't the typical "American Chinese" dishes, more authentic not drowning in sauces so also healthier which I appreciate. I was excited to try their Walnut Prawns. I love this dish but it is not a dish you can always find and doing take out isn't an option because it won't be as crispy. The shrimps were big, fresh, lightly coated and fried. The walnuts sat alone on the side. Again they were not as saucy which also meant not as honey walnut flavored as I wanted. I would have liked if there was just enough sauce so the walnut pieces stuck to the shrimps. The General Taos Chicken was my favorite, perfectly coated in the sticky sauce but not swimming in it like a lot of restaurants, no sauce was left lingering on the plate. They were lightly fried and very flavorful. This is a place we will return to try more dishes and defiantly order the General Taos Chicken again. Finally the staff was friendly and attentive and by the time we got home I wasn't dying of thirst, feeling bloated or hungry hours later and I'm looking forward to my chicken and chow fun leftovers for breakfast. FYI the General Taos chicken did not disappoint, still excellent, the chow fun not so much, plain noodles no flavor

Lunch specials = good deal with soup, egg roll and nicely plated. We ordered the shrimp, orange chicken, and beef. One had noodles and sadly the noodles were cold so we informed our server. Overall would have been a better dining experience, but basic serving temp of chow mein didn't make the mark.

The food was the best Chinese food I have tasted in years. It's a blend of Mandarin and Cantonese cuisine, that transported us back to Beijing, Xian and Hong Kong. The ambiance was spacious and appetizing. Service was polite and very efficient. Very reasonable prices and plenty of parking to top off an amazing lunch on Easter Sunday.

Really not bad for an Asian restaurant in Danville. Just expected a higher end feel and higher end prices. We had it family style to compare a lot of dishes. The portions could be bigger for the price you pay. The egg fried rice was whatevs, Mary's chicken was tender, wagyu tofu was fantastic. That was the best dish there. Honestly it was just a cool place try out. The inside was nice and modern. It felt like an elevated dining experience.

On this rainy evening, we decided to try Donhao Modern Cuisine. We ordered spicy wontons, mom's pan-fried dumplings, wagyu beef with broccoli, a combination chow mein, jasmine white rice, and brown sugar panna cotta. We were pleasantly surprised by every dish containing animal protein. The meat was tender and succulent, a remarkable feat because it is easy to overcook the meat, which would have made it harder to chew and less enjoyable. The service was friendly, and the restaurant was clean. Ample parking on this night.

Donhao occupies the former Kaori space, and the room feels comfortable and familiar. Some furniture remains, and even a panna cotta on the menu alongside the kitchen's new focus on modern Chinese, giving the restaurant a sense of continuity for the space. Service had some good, some bad. The long-haired waiter (possibly the manager) was warm, attentive, and proactive, making the experience feel welcoming. Other staff were less experienced. At one point, one of the staff mentioned to our waiter being out of my soda right next to our table, then played telephone at the same volume, delivered plainly as "we're out of that" without the usual niceties. Clumsiness continued when I ended up having to take the glass and bottle from out our waiters hands. These moments didn't ruin the experience, but smoothing them out would make the evening feel more seamless. The Quarter Duck stood out amongst the rest, with insanely good skin and a distinctive truffle-duck dipping sauce. The quarter portion is bony with minimal meat, it really should be a half duck, better for sharing. Walnut Shrimp was exactly what it should be: crispy, sweet, and satisfying. Black Pepper Wagyu Beef was solid. Garlic String Beans had good flavor, though they lacked wok hei, and the Chow Fun also lacked wok hei; oily, lacking flavor.

No complaints! First time trying this restaurant today for lunch. Ordered a bunch of different entrees and all the food came out hot and delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. My favorite was the Mongolian beef.

First time here and happy we tried it! Loved the ambiance! Great service ! TIP: don't compare it to "typical" chinese food. Prepared with high-quality ingredients, no MSG, and you don't leave feeling greasy or puffy from sodium. Appetizers: Dumplings with chili sauce - hubby and I enjoyed them. I was not a fan of the sauce. It wasn't too spicy but it had a flavor I didn't love. I might ask again without or with a different sauce. Egg drop soup: fresh, light, and warming. my tastebuds wanted a little more salt. added a little soy sauce and it was delicious. Honey Walnut Prawns: probably the best I've ever had! The light crispy coating, perfectly cooked prawns, just enough sauce drizzled on. Yum! Wagyu Beef & Broccoli: hubby ordered this and loved it! I tasted the beef and it melted in your mouth, as other reviewers have said. Garlic String Beans: these were awesome too! Cook just right! portions aren't huge. Price is a bit more expensive than a place like panda express, but that is comparing apples to oranges. If you want Chinese food prepared in a lighter, less greasy, healthier with high quality ingredients, highly recommend this place!

Lotus Leaf (Pork Belly) Buns (4 stars)

Donhao is a modern-looking Chinese restaurant replacing the previous, upscale Japanese place Kaori in the Danville Livery. I took my wife here for a lunch date and of course, she's extremely picky when it comes to Chinese food. Chinese food can surprisingly be cheap yet delicious, and some of our best meals are from hole-in-wall establishments or places. Her initial skepticism was whether this will be a Panda Express or PF Chang with inflated prices for the ambiance and location. To justify the prices, Donhao uses Mary's Organic Chicken and American Wagyu as ingredients. Service was a bit slow when we visited - we had to help ourselves to the menus. Surprisingly we got our food quickly, while the elderly couple next to us was waiting over 45 minutes! The food is decent. Chili Oil Wontons were excellent - super smooth skins, juicy fillings, and they nailed the oily sauce with a balance of chili pepper spiciness, sweetness, and mouth-numbing Sichuan peppercorns. (5 stars). The other appetizer we got were the pork baos, like a mini-sandwich, analogous to how Peking Duck is frequently served at banquets. Their lunch specials are in the form of Bento Boxes. I liked my Organic Orange Chicken, although to be frank I can't really distinguish organic from non-organic chicken tastewise. My wife had Beef and Broccoli which was decent. Their side dishes were good, especially the egg-flower soup loaded with scallion flavor. Overall a decent showing, and I can tell they really tried to elevate Chinese food while having pleasant outdoor ambiance. They also have a dessert menu and probably an alcohol menu too.

The server was nice and let the family stay. Great customer service isn't the only reason for the 4 stars. AW has amazing value lunch deals. Love the simple stirfries best. Healthy but tasty. Lots of quality veggies. Highly enjoyed the veggie and shrimp stirfry. The string bean beef is also yummy. My sister thinks their hot and sour soup is great. I love the crunchy woodear mushrooms while she likes the flavor. We both appreciate the kitchen not skimping on the tofu, bamboo shoots and egg. Not everything is a favorite tho. Tried the mushu for takeout once. Didn't enjoy AZ's version. Also didn't enjoy their veggie eggrolls. Wrapper was good and crispy but veggie filling was oddly mushy. Happy to find Amazing Wok as our regular neighborhood place closed recently. AW is a few miles further but it is now our "go to" Chinese American restaurant. The wines by the glass are awesome, if you like Chard, like my wife, they have Frank, Rom and Far Niente, all for $18. That is a steal for all 3, especially Far Niente. Most place charge $20 to $25 in Danville and rarely see Far Niente by the glass. The prices look reasonable on all the wines by the glass, so go get some! They also have great cocktails ($16, great price), my 2 favorites so far are Watermelon Seduction (4 Stars) and Pomtini (4 Stars, get on the rocks). Their bartenders mix the perfect balance, never too sweet or tart, just right! Food notes: Tang's Fried Rice (3 Stars, $30 with chicken, beef, shrimp, so 2 Stars) The base price for fried rice was $19, ok pricy but if you ask for combination fried rice (chicken, beef and shrimp), the price is $30, $11 increase. They charge for each protein, ridiculous! The rice was not that great, they didn't use a long grain rice, some sort of short grain, but not fat, still thin, like the rice was broken in half. All the ingredients were fresh, but nothing special. And the egg, no large chucks, just tiny bits mix in. Szechuan Green Beans with chicken (4 Stars, $20 with chicken). The green beans were fresh, not overcooked, still slightly crunchy. The sauce had some heat and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Roasted peanuts were added, nice touch! Rolling Lettuce Cups with Chicken (4.5 Stars $17) The lettuce cups were perfectly cut from the head lettuce, no ruff edges, easily separated and large. One of the best execution of lettuce cups I've seen! The chicken filling was also awesome! It was not serviced with plum sauce, kinda missed it, but instead some thin sauce, good, not sure exactly what, but definitely not plum. Pork Belly Bao (5 Stars) Really good, get some! Mongolian Beef (3 Stars) The beef was thin sliced and good quality, but the sauce was to sweet, heavy on hoisin, plenty of sliced onion and green onion. No heat. Kung Pao Chicken (3 Stars) I liked the shiitake mushrooms, but the rest was just okay. Shu Mai (4.5 Stars) Really good filling to the top, good size dumping (almost have to cut in half to eat) serviced with chili sauce. I mixed some table soy and chili sauce together, perfect dipping sauce. Yo's Rock Shrimp with Sriracha Mayo (3.5 Stars) Good quality shrimp, nice and lightly batter, deep fried but not over cooked. Until next time...
