We were n the mood for Chinese food and decided to try this place since we've never been there. I kinda wondered when we arrived to the front door and it was so dirty. I don't think the glass doors (which are easily cleaned with windex) have been cleaned in a long time. The interior has zero ambiance and seemed musty. Service was good but that was about it. The food left much to be desired. The best thing we had were the honey walnut prawns. They were not bad but I wouldn't say they were great. The lemon chicken was awful. No lemon taste and an overly thick crust. The fried rice was blah. We did have the crab cheese puffs as an appetizer which was not good. I tasted zero crab and couldn't see any either. Plenty of cheese though and I swear they put sugar in the crust. It was way too sweet and not good. I hate to leave such a bad review but that's how I experienced this visit. read more

**Takeout Order Only** So last night I wasn't feeling my best and I was craving wor wanton soup. So, as I usually do I was looking on Yelp, and saw that this place in downville had good reviews. So I'm not sure if it was an off night or with the case. Was, but I was very disappointed. We ordered general chicken combo, Fried Rice and wor wonton soup. Those 3 items came out to $55. First of all, I feel like that was a bit much for what we actually received. The wonton soup tasted as though the wontons were not fresh or made in-house. I am being completely honest. They taste like the cilantro wontons that are frozen that you can buy from Costco. For example, I could literally taste cilantro in those little wontons. They were all uniform and perfect. Just didnot seem like the average wanton I get at any other place. I definitely would not order this again. We also got combo Fried Rice. What was interesting about the rice was that it was all the same color. A dark Grey. Usually, when I order combo Fried Rice. You see the coloring of the egg or the peas and the carrots. And the shrimp or even in the pork. No, not in this one. Everything was literally gray. I would never order this again either. The general chicken that we ordered gave off Bare nuggets vibes from Costco. They also were each uniform. When we opened the box, they actually all looked the same size and appeared perfect. There was sauce all over them. Somethin' else to note, but when I took a piece of chicken and ran it under water, it had those little fake grill marks that you see on some frozen or pre cooked meat. All in all for us, the quality did not match the pricing. Not one bit. I'm not even sure what all the high marks are for on Yelp. But after looking and reading certain reviews, I see that they were from years previous. Based on this experience, I probably would not go back. It's nothing personal. It's just really hard to find good American Chinese food that's worth what I'm paying. I truly believe I would have been better off at panda. Located on the outskirts of Danville Downtown, in the same parking lot as Fosters Freeze and a Mountain Mike's, you will find Nanking Bistro. Parking will definitely not be an issue here, as it's got a ton of parking in the front and also to the side towards the left of the parking lot when you get in. It's definitely in an older building, and you can tell that from the outside and the interior. There are a few tables right out in the front patio area, and when you enter there's a small bar at the front entrance, and the inside has the front of house area and then a slightly more sectioned off area in the back perhaps for larger parties when needed. This seems like a family run establishment as the front of house was run by younger adults, and the people in the back such as the chefs were older. Does seem like this establishment had been here for awhile, so it's nice to see a place like this still around. What they offer at Nanking Bistro is your typical Chinese food spots, and they do have lunch specials that are pretty affordable (for this area at least since right down the street in the downtown area it's significantly more expensive for the same type of cuisine), and a decent variety of choices to choose from. Again, not that will be out of the ordinary to expectations. The regular none lunch specials stuff was also decently priced, so definitely an interesting option for those who want more bang for your buck. Service here was nice. The girl at the counter was certainly approachable, and willing to answer questions about the food, or other things. No issues. We did takeout on this day and ordered quite a few things to try out since it was the first time here. This is where things start to get a bit trickier; the food. Everything was mostly just mediocre to not appetizing. We'll start with the soup, which sounded appetizing when we ordered it, but once we actually saw what we got from the soup, it was definitely not your normal kind of soup from this type of cuisine, and the ingredients used in there just did not blend with the soup at all. There was also supposedly seafood in there, but you could've fooled me with the few measly pieces of it. The fried rice was just not at all what I had hoped for, and even when you look right at the color you can tell they didn't flavor it correctly, and just dumped soy sauce into it in hopes it would taste good. When rice is this dark, and it doesn't taste flavorful, that just means it wasn't cooked properly. Also, shrimp fried rice, but it came with 4 pieces of shrimp. The chow mein was also a bit odd. The ingredients in there are definitely not your typical or authentic ingredients, and overall, the sauce was just really watery and did not have much flavor to it, which was disappointing because I actually had high hopes for it since I do love me some crispy noodle, but this one was just a complete miss on the noodle front. The only thing that was somewhat enjoyable here was the mushu, which wasn't knock my socks off good or anything, but it's exactly what I expected from a typical Chinese spot. No complaints from me with this delicious wrap since the ingredients and the overall taste with this one was actually good enough. There's a lot of things that are good with Nanking Bistro. The price of everything is great for those who want a reasonably priced spot basically in Downtown Danville. The menu will have plenty of options for a wide variety of eaters and portions are even decent. The service here was good as the staff was nice. Parking is not an issue, so there's that. However, when it comes down to the food, it was just a miss for me. While nothing was terrible, there really weren't many bright spots outside of that one shining moment with the mushu, but that was it. Everything else just tasted bleh at best, but I wasn't really expecting too much to begin with in this area, so beggars can't be choosers. A pleasant surprise in downtown Danville. The town has several Chinese restaurants but Nanking stands out a little higher than the rest. I have a friend who eats primarily Chinese food only so we have been trying out the various local Chinese restaurants in town and Nanking was next up. I tried the Pork Chop with Green Beans lunch special and upgraded to fried rice for the starch option. My friend had the House Hong Kong Style Choy Mein with gray with chicken, beef and prawns (you get three prawns with the beef and chicken). The lunch special comes with hot and sour soup and strips of fried wonton ton. The pork chops had a very nice flavor with about 6 pieces and a dozen string beans. The chow mein was good, probably from the seasoning on the pork chops that was on top of the noodles. Soup was good. I had the rice option with my lunch plate on a different visit and the flavor was good. The gravy on the chow mein had good flavor too and a good variety of vegetables and meat. The lunch menu is not very long. Nanking is a family run business so staffing is limited. You'll need to be patient, nice people but at times it might be hard to find someone to flag down. I've been back a couple of times and plan to try some of the other dishes. Good solid Chinese restaurant and reasonably priced. read more

When we walked in for lunch, it was empty and no one was there to greet us. We almost walked away as the inside was so dark and gloomy. We were starving so we decided to stay. The lady took awhile to come to our table to take our orders. Food serving was on the small size compared to other Chinese restaurants. We ordered the lemon fish which hardly had any lemon flavor. After reading the reviews, I knew I couldn't expect authentic Chinese food but since it's still rated very high, we decided to give it a try. I must say, we were pleasantly surprised. It's not exactly authentic in the sense of traditional dishes, but they made tasty food that obviously caters to their clientele here in the broader Danville area. We had a variety of dishes and every one of them were pretty good. 1. The hot and house soup was very good. I could come back just for this. 2. Szechuan beef. It says spicy but it wasn't really spicy at all. A little on the sweet side but was very yummy with rice. 3. Fried tofu in honey. Pretty good here too. Very saucy but again, with rice, it was pretty good. 4. Mu shu chicken. This was my least favorite but acceptable. It came with flour tortillas... a little different than the Chinese wraps you usually get with a mu shu dish. All and all, I was happy. Food was hot and tasty. Service was slow but friendly. I finally got to try Nanking Bistro for lunch. Its located in downtown Danville and has its own parking lot, right next to Fosters Freeze and Mountain Mike's. They don't do Doordash unfortunately. The restaurant is pretty small, with some limited outdoor dining. The menu and flavors of the food however, are very big. Combined that with reasonable prices and its a 5-stars for me. I highly recommend the pot stickers. Just under $7 for six large plump ones. Pan-fried so its crispy outside and still juicy inside with that pork and cabbage filling. Just like how my mom used to make them. The dipping sauce is good too. I was dining alone and I think this dish can easily serve 2-3. For my main course, I went with the Beijing Spicy Noodles, which turned out to be a variation of Zha Jiang Mein. A huge plate of round, chewy noodles topped by the perfect ratio of diced tofu, scallions, ground pork, and a spicy chili oil sauce. I must have been hungry as I managed to finish the entire dish! Service was friendly, though it seemed they only had one server. In did get a refill on my lemon-infused ice water to soothe the palate after the spicy noodle dish. Will definitely come back! Along with Sunrise Chinese/China Gourmet (a few blocks away next to Smart and Final), Nanking Bistro is probably my new favorite local place for Chinese food. read more

My buddy & I decided to check out Nanking Bistro, which is just north of and across the parking lot from Foster's Freeze. We're both Chinese, and have been to lots of Chinese restaurants in our lives. The restaurant was busy, though not overly crowded. We chose seats in the corner of the cozy dining room. My buddy ordered Singapore Curry Rice Noodles with prawns; I ordered Spicy Beijing Noodles (chopped veggies, fried tofu, with chili sauce) without the usual ground pork. Both were very tasty and pretty spicy! My Spicy Beijing Noodles were in a thin, reddish (chilies?!), spicy sauce which reminded of spaghetti sauce; the noodles were thicker than spaghetti, and it was inevitable that I'd get a little of the sauce on my shirt! ;) It was so good that I brought the sauce home to enjoy over rice tomorrow! Next time, I'll bring a bib or tuck a napkin in my shirt. The nice lady who seated and served us was nice, efficient & attentive.
