The restaurant has a homey vibe to it where it appears to be managed by family members and most customers are repeat. The food here is top notch fresh and they are very generous about their portions. They have HUGE sashimi portions (almost double the size of the typical competitors) and their hand rolls are the size of an extra large ice cream cone. Still they are packed with flavor and made with care. Their shrimp and vegetable tempura was done perfectly (not too greasy nor too much breading), and their amaebi (fresh sweet shrimp) is a must try if you're a shrimp-a-holic. The shrimp head was lightly fried without much breading. Their hand roll is a must try (it's the first hand roll on their menu in the hand roll section) as it's a combination of the various fresh fish including uni (there's a mint leaf to give the hand roll a fresh clean taste). They had one server and one helper but they're very friendly and will take the time to talk with you. A definite spot to hit if you have a light night sushi craving. read more

This place is my favorite affordable sushi restaurant in the Tri-valley area. Unfortunately it looks like the restaurant is temporarily closed due to a staff shortage. They are looking for sushi chefs! The sushi was usually amazing, and the service was incredible at this location. My boyfriend and I were regulars, and I have brought many of my friends here. The agedashi tofu I could've done without - while the flavor was there, the texture was wasn't my favorite. I really enjoyed the salmon and avocado roll, as well as the spicy tuna roll. Got there about 7:30pm on a Saturday night and got a table right away outside with a nice breeze. The restaurant is in the shopping center so there are plenty of parking. BB Roll with Shrimp tempura, avocados, crab, tempura chunchy and house special sauce was very good. 10 Sashimi was very fresh. Goyza was fried perfectly. It was so good I ordered a 2nd one. Went to MJ Sushi and it was pretty good We did both takeout and sit down and liked both experiences. The space is nice, not too big and not too small, and the overall vibe is very casual and chill. The prices were honestly really good for sushi. None of the rolls were over 20 dollars and most were below that, which I really appreciated. We got two rolls and also some hand rolls which were really good! The staff was super sweet and really helpful, and we never felt rushed at all. We put our name down and what we thought would be maybe a 30-min wait was only 5 min. Not sure how that happened. Your first drink is free. So if you want water, a soda or beer, they don't charge you. And at the end of your meal, you can get a free soft serve ice cream cone. Free! Service is slow. They're so busy that you need to wave someone down or else they'll keep walking by you. We ordered mainly sushi rolls, tempura appetizer and agedashi tofu. Food came out at different times. Sushi came out first then a minute later, the tempura. We waited a while for my daughter's agedashi tofu to arrive. They let us know it takes a while to make it. I would rate the whole experience as 3.8. We had spicy tuna, the 49ers, monster roll, special salmon roll and takoyaki. Spicy tuna has a good kick to it. My kid enjoyed the 49ers Monster roll was also very good. Crispy tempura, yummy sauce. Takoyaki sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. All the food tasted good. We had no complaints. Portion wise the fancy rolls are a bit small for the price I thought. They brought out complimentary ice cream for my kids which I thought was very nice. The place isn't very big.
