What a great find in downtown Danville! From the moment we walked in, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, which immediately set the tone for a wonderful dining experience. We ordered the dinner combo where you can pick two items for $25.99--such a great deal. We chose the beef teriyaki and shrimp & vegetable tempura, and the combo also comes with miso soup, salad, and rice. Everything was delicious. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the tempura was perfectly crispy and light. We also ordered walu nigiri and uni nigiri, both of which tasted incredibly fresh. On top of that, we tried the Bank Roll--a spicy tuna roll with shrimp tempura topped with a spicy sauce--and it was amazing. Great texture, great flavor, and just the right kick. I usually get the salmon nigiri which is always delicious. This time I got the mount diablo roll which was very yummy and fresh. Love that they have hot tea. Prices are competitive with the area. One of the best Japanese restaurants in the tri-valley! Fresh fishes (their Sashime is always my go to item), and great service. They have a great selection of rolls that are nicely made and well presented. Conveniently located with parking which is a plus for Danville downtown. Bad experience, but management made it right We had a very frustrating experience at Akira Bistro involving a $150 digital gift card that had been purchased directly through the restaurant's own website. The gift card was issued by email/QR code, but when we tried to use it at dinner, the staff refused to accept it and said they needed a paper gift card. That was very disappointing. We explained that the gift card came from Akira Bistro's own website, but the situation was not handled well in the moment, and we ended up having to pay for a meal that should have been covered by the gift card. Afterward, management responded quickly, acknowledged that the gift card was valid and should have been honored, explained that the staff had not been properly trained on the new digital gift card system, refunded the gift card, and comped the meal. They also said the staff has now been trained so this does not happen again. So I want to be fair. The experience at the restaurant was bad and should not have happened, but management did take responsibility and made it right afterward. read more

I absolutely love this place. Their food is so good. It's so fresh, cleanly cut, and overall just taste delicious. Their servers are so nice and always making us feel welcome. Personally my favorite thing to get there is their sashimi salad. You might be like why would she get salad at a sushi place. Trust me and get it. It has fresh cut sashimi a good chili sauce and another sauce on top with three of their special chips. And lettuce. This is one of my favorite Sushi Bars in town. The fish is so fresh and never old. The food is prepared very well, very professional, great presentation, and ALWAYS fresh. The have inside seating as well as outdoor patio. They have a sushi bar as well for indoor seating. Akira has a full bar and of course a fine Saki menu. Been coming here almost regularly once a week for the last three weeks or so. Probably now one of my most favorite Japanese restaurants. They have an extensive menu but on top of that, the portions are big. Like the price may be a bit high but with the amount of food they give you, it makes sense. The photos are from multiple outings but my favorite roll has to be their Lion King roll. Outside of that the Saba Shioyaki has to be one of my favorites. It's so good. Also, their service is amazing. The waitresses and waiters are all super nice and incredible. Please be patient when things get busy but on the off hours, they're super friendly. The inside ambiance is your average restaurant. Not too loud, not too quiet. However, fair warning if you're seated outside, passing vehicles and motorcyclists may get really loud. I just tend to prefer sitting inside. But definitely check out this place, I love it. read more

So, this review is all about the food since we ordered takeout. My 4-year-old had been pestering me for sushi for weeks, but we couldn't find a good spot in the area. Then I stumbled upon Akira, and their rolls looked promisingly similar to our favorite spot in San Ramon before it closed down. So, we decided to give it a shot and ordered three rolls. Overall, not bad. Two out of the three were really tasty. The lion king roll stood out with its flavorful unagi sauce and fresh salmon topped with roe--it hit the spot. My personal favorite was the Danville roll--it had a satisfying crunch on the outside and a delicious mix of spicy tuna, avocado, and shrimp inside. They added a touch of mayo on the outside, giving it a sweet and spicy kick. Although, next time, I'd ask them to hold the mayo, as we wanted one roll that was purely spicy. This roll reminded me of a spinach tuna tempura roll. Our least favorite roll / the Flaming Dragon. It wasn't bad by any means but it just had way too much cucumber so that overpowered the taste of everything else. Considering they survived a 15-minute drive from the restaurant to our home, these rolls held up pretty well. Next time, though, we'll definitely dine in to enjoy them fresh! read more

Friendly staff. So we walk in after walking around downtown mountain view which street is close off for blocks so very kid safe. Parking around this restaurant was very easy on a Sunday afternoon. When you're craving sushi and just need to get a fix, this is the place for you. Open until 2:30 pm so can easily accommodate a late lunch. Maybe it's been a long time since I've been to a standard sushi place serving American style rolls, but a lot of them have the same base fish: spicy tuna, imitation crab, etc. the topping may be different, but a lot of the base rolls start out the same. So not the place to go if you're craving variety, but works in a pinch! Large space so can hold a large party. Private parking lot so that's a bonus for parking! read more

So I have been enjoying sushi at Akira Bistro for 8 years. I used to live in walking distance. I recently moved and am missing it so much. So I had to go back even though in my new neighborhood there are a dozen sushi spots. But Akira is worth the 24 minute drive. They have a happy hour and that helps when you eat as many rolls as I do. Add in my husband and it's kinda disgusting. Anyway. We love the freshness of the the fish. Lots of roll options. They also offer so many other menu items. I like the mixed tempura, seaweed salad and tuna tatake. You can also do a bento style meal. I like the salmon teriyaki. It's fun to sit at the sushi bar or the bar bar. Gotta have my tall sake and a sapporo. The staff is friendly especially during the quiet hours. But the place gets really busy so they can't be as sweet, but the service is still good. Restaurant and restroom are clean. Parking is decent. Their lot is small but there is plenty of street parking. Enjoy! read more

This lovely sushi spot has awesome outdoor seating, which is what first drew me in. I love the variety of rolls, and the freshness of the fish is superb. They occasionally have really great specials on more unique fish, but perhaps my favorite part of this place is the FULL BAR and the skill of the bartenders, who make a MEAN (and occasionally dangerous) painkiller, which brings me right back to eating poke oceanfront in Hawaii. Akira Bistro is one of those restaurants we always drive by but never had the chance to try. There are tons of sushi places between Danville and San Ramon. With COVID19 and the rise of Doordash, We finally got the opportunity to order delivery. The caveat is that we want hot food, so review does not include sushi. The Pork Ramen is solid. Clear, savory pork bone broth, still chewy (and not soggy) noodles, and soft,tender pork pieces with bamboo shoots and a few pieces of fish cakes. We would order this dish again (4 stars). Pork Katsudon was a bit of a letdown. I like the crispy thinly-sliced pork cutlets but the sauce seemed really sweet to me. The scrambled eggs and red onions were nice toppings to the rice but man that sauce overwhelmed everything. (2.5 stars). The side of miso soup was decent, though. Glad we got to try Akira. Next time, maybe I'll try one of the grilled fish entrees. Sushi would be great, but due to COVID19 we've pretty much abstained from eating too much raw stuff. read more
