What a fantastic surprise. Never heard of or seen this place until yesterday when my buddy asked me to meet him there. Service was awesome even though we only saw one waitress. She was definitely hustling. We were in a hurry and asked her to pick out anything that was quick. This is the second time I've been here, but it has been awhile. Met a long time friend here and had such a wonderful time and experience! We were greeted right away and were seated at a booth. There were about two or three other tables that were occupied. Our server was great and attentive. She took our drink order right away - Sapporo and hot tea in a pretty black tea pot. The ambience was great, restaurant was very clean and neat. Our server took our food order shortly after bringing our drink order. We have been coming to RJ's for 6 years now and the prices have gone up, but the portions have gotten smaller. For a CA roll, volcano role, and two garlic edamame cost me $48. I don't mind spending that price as long as I'm getting a full portion size. Garlic edamame is a very inexpensive item for them on their end, yet the last 3 times I have picked up to go orders the containers are half full. It's unfortunate because I love supporting small businesses and the owners and staff are so kind. Please work on this RJ's. read more

The tempura prawns with walnuts were fine, not special, I had dragon roll, couldn't eat it whole, had to take a bite, then another, too big. I go to Japanese restaurant s to try several items, unable to do it. TOO BIG. And then there was a group of 7 guys who were so loud we had to move from sushi bar to back of restaurant. We have been to RJ's twice now! They have really good food that consists of a mix of different kinds of Asian cuisine like Sushi, Korean ribs and udon soup to name a few! For the longest time we didn't know this place was here. It's a good thing they had a huge sign you could see when you exited the freeway or else we would have never known about it. This time around we ordered the Tempura which was great. It didn't have that greasy taste like some does, the udon soup which was wonderful! It was a big portion with thick udon noddles cooked perfectly. ( I always order extra green onions on top) And the Baja roll because I always have to have my sushi! This is a great little restaurant down the street from my parents' house. They have cold draft beer and delicious sushi rolls, plus nice hot dishes for those who don't necessarily want sushi! We particularly enjoyed the miso salmon, the sunshine roll, and the golden California roll, but everything was delicious. Will be back! read more

RJ's is located in a strip mall in Alamo, right on Danville Blvd. It is dark and intimate, with a sushi bar in the front, with two large flatscreens behind the chef. The food is Japanese-inspired for the most part, though they have some Korean and Singaporean items too. Overall - I give three star overall. Decent sushi and appetizers, awesome desserts, and just one flawed dish (it was returned and taken off our bill!). Service was wonderful! Appetizers: The Japanese Rock is a grill-it-yourself experience, with several thin slices of marinated rib-eye. The rock cooks the meat in seconds, and I found the meat juicy and well-seasoned. No need for their ponzu and teriyaki sauces which would be overboard. Their Crab Stack is a nice little tower of avocado, mango, and lump crab meat that you spoon onto a large crouton. Pretty light and refreshing. Garlic Edamame was excellent - garlic flavor permeated each bean all the way through. 4 stars. Sushi: I got the combo 6-piece nigiri with the Baja Cali Roll (Hamachi wrapped on the perimeter of a Californian Roll, made with real crab meat of course). Fish toppings were very fresh, and I liked the loosely-packed rice. Baja Roll had some acidity from the ponzu sauce, but I didn't quite taste the jalapeño for that Japanese-Mexican fusion. Still pretty good. 4 stars. Seafood Soba Stir Fry: Yikes this dish came drenched in sauce and was otherwise too salty for us to enjoy. After a few bites we sent it back and they took it off our bill. 2 stars for food quality. The dish had good amount of scallops and shrimp but that sauce permeated through the noodles and overpowered everything. Desserts: 5-stars! Their bitter dark chocolate-raspberry soufflé is worth waiting for, especially when paired with their organic ginger ice cream. Among one of the best desserts I've had in a fusion restaurant - even surpassing Roy's Lava Cake. Their Coconut Tapioca pudding was also nice - wasn't overly sweet, had a slight bit of tanginess, and big enough to share. Would recommend coming back for the appetizers and desserts! The sushi rolls are interesting. We would avoid anything stir-fried for fear of excessive sauce. read more

I was gonna go to panera before getting my nails done but it was the day before Christmas Eve and that parking lot was insane. So I stumbled by this place on accident after I gave up on parking across the street. It was very serene inside. I imagine it's louder during the dinner rush. But it was lunch time and there was only one other table seated. The food was good. But pricey for lunch. All lunch specials were served with miso soup and salad. So I had that with my sushi and roll combo. A decent sized red dragon roll with 5 generous portions of chef selected sushi pieces. Everything was tasty and seemed as fresh as can be. The lobster roll here is one of the best "sushi" items I've ever tried. It's smothered in cheese and baked until the cheese is browned and crispy. Large chunks of lobster meat cover the table. It's not inexpensive but it's worth every penny! So, so good! No raw scallops on the menu, only baked. That's my favorite raw dish but hard to find. Staff is generally very attentive and friendly. From the outside I had no expectations going in, but was pleasantly surprised! They have a seafood soup with a coconut milk base that it out of this world. I would go there for that alone. Also the seared scallops- served on a small mashed potato bite- scrumptious. We had little traditional "sushi". My only reason for not giving 5 stars, is they use a sauce on a lot of their dishes that I wasn't a fan of- tastes a little like a siraccha/soy sauce? Ask for sauce on the side... Yellowtail is the only ahi they carry, not my ultimate but no reason to count them out. While perusing the menu, I noticed some outrageous prices on "junk" parts of fish, like $16 hamachi kama. Average roll price is around $15. Got a Red Dragon and a Sunshine Roll. They both came drenched, drowning in "special sauces" I would have had on the side had I known. Red Dragon roll was ok, I tried to wipe the sauce off it but to no avail; There is no point in a wasabi/ginger/soy dunk. It comes topped with bean sprouts, different and cool, watch out the bean sprout shells can break your tooth they are so hard. Sunshine roll has a ton of sauce over a fish topped roll of who knows what. While I did like the use of mackerel in the fish mix (added a salty touch), all of the chopped fish was connected. Why chop it to bits if not separating the bits? I had one bite that wasn't oversauced. Gotta take a star away for having a fish scale in the mix, scales should be far removed once you are in the sushi cutting stage. Not sure if they are trying to hide the fish with all the sauce, but I wished I could have tasted how good the fish or rice is. I wanted to give a fair chance so even after the scale and sauce debacle I left a note so they can think about if they want to adjust things. Be a while before I try here again. read more

Amazing food and service. We found this little gem on a whim. We had to run some stands and we wanted sushi so tried this place. Hands down best sushi I have had in a long time. We ordered the edamame to start which had garlic and soy sauce on them... delish. Then had the Hawaiian poke which was so fresh it melted in your mouth. Next we had the spicy tuna roll and the honey walnut crispy sushi ( can't remember the exact name) but very delicious! Topped it off with a glass of Wente Chardonnay and I was completely satisfied. Four of us dined this evening - all first timers. It was excellent. The Rainbow Roll (crab, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, avocado, cucumber) was fresh and expertly presented. Tuna Sashimi was delicious. The two Wok dishes, Seafood Yakisoba (shrimp, calamari, scallops, so a noodles) and Yasai It Ame (vegetable stir-fry) were perfect and plentiful! They have a pastry chef and we had homemade ice cream (3 flavors) and a tapioca, coconut pudding. The ambiance was lovely - the decor beautiful. Our waitress, Christina, was not rushed, took her time explaining dishes and had us smiling and laughing. A very delightful evening. Great to have this restaurant in Alamo! read more

I would give this place 10 stars if possible. We had take out last night and it was delicious. That is the five stars the second five are their care during coronavirus. They are doing every measure possible to make it safe for costumers. The person at the counter is wearing a mask and changing her gloves. They even have pens that they use sanitizer on between customers. They are working very hard to protect us. Thank you RJ's. read more
