Took advantage of my ignorance and charged me $100 to wipe my computer (takes a few clicks) and re install windows (which I have at my house) when I thought something much more complicated was necessary. When I went to pick up my computer after speaking to a friend who could've walked me through it myself, the employee didn't care that I now knew that what they did was incredibly easy (basically required zero effort) and defended the fact that I already signed for the "work" to be done and that was their price. I feel totally wronged. I can't imagine what being an older person with a real issue would be like and how ripped off they would be. read more

My computer crashed and brought my computer here to Purl. They had for a day and fixed it (hardware issue). But it only lasted a few days then crashed again. Took my Gateway all in one PC to Purl for trouble shooting (9:00 a.m.) 7/30/12. Ron had it cleaned up and ready by 1:00 p.m. Brought it home, runs great. Can't ask for more than that. This review is only concerning customer service and sales. As for their computer knowledge I can not provide technical details as I have not and will not use Perl computer. I went in and requested an upgrade for my current gaming tower (MB, Graphics card, memory, PS, etc.). I provided all details and plenty of pictures of my current build. The owner/manager recommended AMD but I told him that I prefer Intel and Nvidia. He mumbled under his breath "I lacked experience with AMD". So be it, I requested the quote and provided my email address to make things easier and he told me that he'd get back to me soon. 1+ month later, no quotation? Perhaps the owner/manager benefit from a bit of customer support training. read more

About two and a half years ago, I came to Purl Computers to have the keyboard on my laptop fixed. Ron was very friendly and helpful. I also told him I was having problems with the loading speed of my laptop, and he said he would check it out. There was a slight problem with getting the phone calls when I was told I would, but I figured it was because of the holiday season. Once the keyboard was replaced, I did not have any problems with my laptop. Today, I returned to have my laptop fixed because it completely died. The receptionist was friendly, and Ron came out as I was talking to her. Ron checked the power supply and was able to determine that was the problem. Once my laptop started, he could tell right away there was also a problem with the fan, but he also wanted to let my laptop fully load to make sure the hard drive wasn't corrupted. He said it would take about an hour, and suggested I buy a new power cord. About 30 minutes later while I was buying the power cord, they called me and said my laptop was ready to be picked up. They blew the dust off the fan and did not charge me for the diagnostic. Ron said if the problem with the fan persisted, to return and maybe we could come up with other solutions. Now, my laptop runs very quietly and it does not get hot like it did in the past. I will definitely return and recommend them. read more

ron did FAB job getting that "system tool" virus out of my laptop! he was so kind and professional -- his shop was supposed to close at noon today for new year's eve yet he was kind enough to spend an extra hour there fixing my computer! waaaaaay better than the geek squad and other pricing on "antivirus" tech support. ron only charged me $150 (out the door) versus the $289 to $350 other places charge. also, he fixed my other computer about a year ago and did a fine job them! support his wonderful local livermore business! After a spill, my computer stopped loading Windows. I brought it to Purl. The technician said the computer was toast. I took it home and ordered a new computer. The next day I tried the old computer again, and it worked. It has performed flawlessly for almost two weeks, with many start-ups. I'm out $500 for a new computer I don't need. I don't recommend Purl. read more

Who needs a computer repair person, no one right because we all back all files up and can't fix our own stuff...... Well if you happen to be one of those select few who don't do that and only go to them when you have a major emergency I can assure you they will take care of you be very fair and extremely fast. I've been there a few times got immediate friendly service and repairs that far exceeded my expectations. In my case they could have charged me an arm and a leg, sold me some things i didnt need etc ( what are you going to do when your stuck and need desperate help) but none of that happen. We have used Ron a couple of time this year when we moved our business from SF to lovely Livermore. Ron is fantastic. He had our LAN and wireless network up in no time. Ron first stopped by our new office to check out the site before determining what was needed. He provided the necessary equipment and did not charge us for his time to make the purchase. After we were settled, Ron helped us move some data from one of our old Windows 98 desktops (no USB ports or CD drives on that system) to our newer desktop system. He picked up the old computer and returned it and the data CD per our agreed schedule. We imported the data and everything worked beautifully. Ron is very personable and knows his stuff. It is really nice to use a small, local company. We will definitely use Ron for any future needs for our business or our home. read more

Fantastic service. Friendly and fast. My Lenovo all-in-one desktop computer crashed last week. I am a small business owner, and I lost all of my important financial data. While trying to get my computer to boot up again, I somehow deleted all of my files. I thought I was covered, because I had everything backed up on an external hard drive. I got the computer going and reloaded my files from the external drive, but the computer crashed again, and I lost everything. Now my external hard drive,( which was brand new), also failed. Purl Computers was recommended to me by someone else who had used them recently, so I took my Lenovo to their office, in Livermore, on Thursday July 3rd in the afternoon. The next day was a holiday, so I was told I would hear from them on Monday. I got a call on Monday as promised, with a diagnosis. I went in on Tuesday morning, with my laptop, and the people at Purl were able to retrieve my files, and load them onto my laptop. which were much more important to me than the computer itself, which would have been too costly too repair. And they did this at what I consider to be a more than reasonable price. Thank you Purl Computers. I highly recommend them! read more

Recently had my Lenovo laptop serviced by the technician working at Purl. I brought it in because my computer had slight damage from food rotting along the edges of it. I requested that it be cleaned and fixed at whatever cost and she obliged saying that it would take less than a full day. The next day, I received a call that it was ready and prepared for operation. When I went to pick it up, it looked better than it had before--aesthetically, that is. Further use of the laptop proved that none of the ports (i.e. HDMI, USB, CD drive, and SD reader) had been reconnected upon disassembly and reassembly. Additionally, the technician failed to reconnect the speakers, leaving a complete absence of all types of audio. Somewhat angry, I returned the computer and informed the technician of the many problems I had come across. She assured me that they would be fixed immediately and would give me a call. So the second time I had to go back, she verbally confirmed that all of the ports were working but did not physically run any sort of test in front of me. After I got home, I attempted to use the previously non-working ports but found that they were still useless. Due to the poor attitude of the employee towards my situation, I decided to take my needs elsewhere. Cleaning and physical repairs maybe be advertised as one of their specialties, but in my opinion, it certainly is not! read more

Went to Purl to have 2 little wires welded back on Hubsan X4. 2 very small wires, and the woman who was there told me they don't do soldering, HUH! a computer repair shop that doesn't do soldering?? I then asked this person, a lady there, if she knew of anyone that does soldering and she just shugs her shoulders. She was very rude, very, and I would never take a computer there to have work done on it, just based on this one day. the whole job would of taken 5 mins.
