Puffect Bakery hosted a pretty party for me and the space, décor and food was puffect! We ordered chicken pesto panini sandwiches, chicken Caesar panini sandwiches, strawberry lemonade, cupcakes in chocolate, green tea, and vanilla flavors, strawberry and Nutella. We also had a macaron cake that was delicious. Everyone enjoyed the atmosphere and the food and drink. The space is great for people to walk around and mingle. Tiny little place in a very random, industrial-like area, but it's bright and clean and well decorated. The egg waffles/puffles are really delicious and it reminds me of my days back in Hong Kong! Oh how I miss the street food and to see it be so expensive here! The seating is limited but they have free wifi. It's super quiet too if nobody is there, so you can definitely study, though it's a bit of an odd and open setup to feel comfortable doing so. I recently got a box of macarons from Puffect Bakery. The moment I saw my Hello Kitty and Totoro shaped macaroons, I was super giddy by the overload of cuteness. I mean seriously, they are the absolute cutest desserts in the world. I didn't know the flavors of each macaron so I was just going to eat in and try to figure it out. Instantly I could take the beige looking one was Salted Caramel. However, the baby blue, lavender one, I really could not taste the flavor. It just tasted sweet and nothing else. It has been over a year since I've last been to this store. I went back a couple days ago because I was desperate for some delicious macarons. I usually go to Merely Sweets in Brea, but this was more convenient for me. I regret my decision and wish I took the time to drive there. The macarons are $0.50 cheaper, bigger, and taste better. The service was bleh. There was no one in the shop when I walked in. After waiting, someone finally came. The first person I talked to that helped me choose the macarons was nice and friendly. The second person was like a wall. And by that I mean that I felt like I was talking to a wall. No greeting, no talking just clicking away on the iPad. Once I paid he just turned around and left. Whoo~ I would love to go back to such an environment... not. Macarons weren't good and they were expensive. The outer shell was either overbaked or dried out from being out for display the whole day. Can I just say this is my favorite bakery in a whole wide world . I love everything sweet and this place has everything I want . I guess you can say this is a one stop for all ! Right when my friend and I walked in , we were greeted nicely by everyone . The customer service here is exceptional. Everyone's so nice and sweet . The decorations are exceptional also . I cannot believe that they have real macarons as ornaments on their Christmas tree . Yes I know they're real because I took a bite out of it heheheh . Today I ordered the fruit tea and ugh it's so amazing . The tea is so refreshing and nice . They use real fruits and stuff . I also had some macarons . Although they were really sweet and the flavors weren't that strong I know they will improve because they're always having different flavors to satisfy their customers . I wasn't sure what I wanted to give this place as it had great atmosphere and a lovely manager that gave us a tour of the store and their entire menu (as small as it may be) and the staff was overall very nice especially when the drink I ordered didn't come out the way I expected. But the overall pastries and desserts were underwhelming and very lackluster. FOOD: We ordered a box of six to sample the different flavors and ordered a peach green tea as well. The macarons were $2 each for the size of a quarter which I thought were grossly overpriced as Bottega Louie charges about the same and are larger. We had the thai tea, taro, nutella, samoa, red bean, and green tea. I'm not a huge fan of macarons but even I knew they were inconsistent with their baking style as some were hella chewy and others were flaky and empty that crumbled on the first bite. The flavors were also lacking as green tea and the red bean flavors were almost nonexistent, my favorite was probably the nutella one as it was the only one that tasted like it was supposed to. The teas were refreshing, but very unsweetened, they boast using natural fruits to sweeten their teas which isn't much, so heed carefully, the teas are not for those with a sweetooth. Also, it was tough to drink without a fat straw with all the fruit chunks in the peach green tea. Their cupcakes didn't look all that appetizing either. SERVICE: They were great and very friendly, they remade my drink without a problem when I realized even for me the tea wasn't sweet enough. ATMOSPHERE: It's a great place to study, the music isn't too loud and the energy is very quaint. The store has a very cool color palette of purple, whites, and blacks with vintage ornate designs on the walls. Little chandeliers hang from their ceilings as light fixtures. They also have a back room, I'm not totally sure if it's free to use or to rent out to parties only, but it's quite big. read more

We walked over to this little place, while getting our oil changed nearby. I saw their cute character macarons and knew I just had to get some. We also tried their red velvet egg puff w/ Mochi and it was good! It had a really subtle red velvet flavor, which was perfect because the hubby isn't too much a fan of the flavor and he ended up really enjoying it. I did not know much about Egg Puffs, a Hong Kong version of street waffles, which is like egg waffles with puffy bubbles on it. So I tried it at Puffy Bakery Cafe (where they specialize in this), located in Walnut next to Starbucks and several other eateries. Quite tasty! Admittedly, it is familiar if you have tried egg-based pastries before. They are kind of like yellow and lightly sweet like corn-bread (or funnel cake) and crispy. The interior is small, cute, pink, and aromatic. It's a cute bakery with a very friendly staff who explain everything. They have a lunch menu, so I had a mozzarella panini and green tea, which was good. Nice, crispy bread, and tasty cheese. The tea I had was very refreshing. There is plenty of parking as it is located on a corner amongst other businesses. Interior is somewhat small, so you can bring about 2-4 people. Most people probably get their pastries to go. The atmosphere was pleasant as well as the service. But the sole reason I am writing the review today is because of the macarons. I got the earl grey, lavender, strawberry cheesecake, oreo, green tea, and salted caramel. The macarons were poorly made and unfortunately, sloppy for that matter. They were dry and seemed to be over-baked. The sizes were inconsistent - some where unsymmetrical and others were too small compared to the others. This review is only for the fruit fusion tea & service The yelp phone add check-in means more specifically "one free fruit fusion tea with purchase of a DOZEN macarons." It was VERY misleading due to leaving out key information, but the manager I believe was very aware of the situation and has already been trying to fix the problem. Other than that the establishment was quick to fix the problem and give me a free fruit fusion for the inconvenience it has caused. 1 - The cashier was smart and immediately got the manager for any questions I had instead of the common list of aggravating questions that would provide no solution. Plus to that for not making me even more annoyed at the situation. 2 - The manager was quick to compensate and relate to the problems and coming to a mutual understanding. 3 - Personally I love the fruit fusion tea, which I had both apple white & peach green tea lightly sweetened. However, unless you like a more subtle taste and a refreshingly different taste don't take my word for it. I don't like things too sweet, but like the tea flavor with a hint of sweetener & fruits. 4 - The sandwiches are a complete disaster. It has zero flavor from caesar dressing, the whole organization of the sandwich was a disaster in terms of how it was put together. I looked at it quickly while I was in the car to take a quick examination. Other than that everything is "pre made" so don't expect to be able to add, change, or modify anything. If you are allergic then it would suck to be you. TLDR; Good service, good drinks, and horrible sandwiches I would come back for a drink or a place to sit down to talk. I was back in town this weekend and drove by and noticed the sign for Puffect. Something new in Walnut? Yes! Seems like a good place to just chill with friends and study too. The staff was super friendly and recommended the egg puffs to us so we got an original egg puff. Soooo good!!! I've been to Hong Kong a few times so I've had some legit egg waffles and I'd say these are just as good. My friend wanted macarons so we got a box of six. I was reading the previous reviews that said the macarons were small but they looked fine to me. They look like the same size as the Bottega Louie ones. Maybe they started making them bigger. We got the cookie butter, samoas, red velvet, mango, earl grey, and thai tea. Macarons FTW!! They were soft and scrumptious and sooo good! I ended up buying an extra cookie butter and a fruit fusion tea (jasmine green tea with lychee bits) for the road. I thought the $2 price tag for each macaron was fine since it came with the box too. We didn't have to pay extra for them putting it in a box for us. Needless to say, I think I will be stopping by whenever I'm in town to get my sugar fix and support a local business. The staff is really friendly and helpful and they explained to us that they have plans to grow their baked good lines. She said they'll have scones and cakes and tarts... can't wait! They have a cool classroom thing that is apparently going to be used for cake decorating classes and kids parties. I think that's a great idea-- like a color me mine but with cakes and cupcakes. Tucked away in a corner of the street behind a giant Starbucks is this little quaint, local bakery that happens to serve food, desserts, and teas. If you're in need of some place quiet and peaceful with decent food, drinks, and/or drinks then I'd recommend this. 3.5 FOOD QUALITY: Chicken Pesto Panini was ... barely a panini. While it's missing the obvious pressed sandwich quality with zero grill marks and only slight browning, it's toasted very nicely to give you a very nice crisp, flake, then soft chew textural consistency on the bread. The chicken is in pieces for your chewing convenience, and for the most part it's cooked nicely for a breast such that it wasn't entirely dry. The sandwich mainly relies on the pesto and sun dried tomato to deliver the majority flavor, and it does just that with a strong dose of olive oil and basil flavors that incorporate mild cheesiness and a very subtle nuttiness. The only negative about this sandwich is that the sundried tomatoes they use here are blocky and hard, and doesn't spread evenly throughout the sandwich such that you get only a small burst of that deep tomato flavor whose bright notes lighten the sandwich density. The macarons here are a little interesting; the exterior has a very soft crisp that seems as if you were going to bite into a dense, cakey center but it was actually airy and light for both the shell and filling. The only drawback I found is that the exterior of the shell was crisp enough so it became a little chewy with small bits being able to get stuck in between your teeth. Teas are pre-brewed and sit in a giant thermos dispenser, then they'll shake and make your drinks fresh once ordered. Tehy brew the tea lightly here, so it only brings light floral flavors that's on the verge of almost tasting watered down. ENVIRONMENT: Small, comfortable, quiet, and clean. Though personally I'm not sure how I feel about the theme here as .. well it's not for everyone; just take a look at the pictures. Overall, this place offers decent food and drinks that are perfect for small gatherings or to catch up. Easy to park, easy to find a table, and easy to eat/drink items. read more

This place is located in a small industrial part of Walnut, the streets are very busy yet the parking lot of this cafe is quite spacious as people rarely park there. As for the inside, it is a small area with limited seating. The decor and theme of the cafe are cute and welcoming. They had a lot of goodies on display such as cupcakes, pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate, macaroons, etc.! As far as the pricing goes it was a little shocking to see that it went up a whole $1.25 or so, seeing reviews on here and visiting their website the macaroons were targeted to be only $2.00 each with the character macaroons being $3 each as well, so that threw me off that their pricing point wasn't updated. As for their Nutella, banana, strawberry egg puff I had seen that it was selling for $4 and walking in it was displayed as being about $9 plus tax. As for the taste of the character macaroons I got, I will say they were decent. I only fully enjoyed the bulldog shaped macaroon, the rest left me unimpressed. As for the customer service here, the girl that rang me up was rude. I was a new customer here wanting to try out their desserts, and she didn't greet me or tell me what they currently had in stock as I was requesting flavors they no longer had for the day. She didn't even tell me the flavoring of the macaroons I asked for, it was this grey area of guessing the flavor of it as I took a bite. Overall, I gave this cafe 3 stars out of 5 because of the decor and sole flavor of the bulldog macaroon. More like 3.5 stars. Since Nogales has construction I often times take Lemon on the way to work now and have passed Puffect on multiple occasions wondering what is Puffect? After reading the reviews and finding out that they had egg puff pastries (a.k.a. eggette or hong kong egg puff pastries) I knew I had to try this place. I'm no expert on egg puff pastries, but I did enjoy the red velvet egg puff with cream cheese frosting dip very much. The egg puff was crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside and dipped in the frosting was pretty much yummylicious in my mouth. I also had the Samoa macarons which as everyone states are just like girl scout cookie macaron style. The crispyness on the outside and chewiness on the inside is also very good. Not too soft, not too hard. I also tried the green tea cupcake. I'm not sure if it was sitting out in the fridge too long but I thought it was really dense. I also didn't like the super sweet buttercream frosting too much. Lastly, I tried the pineapple, spinach and apple smoothie unsweetened. It's pretty healthy, and ok. If you're not used to smoothies of the healthier variety I suggest you ask them to sweeten this one for you as it will not be as sweet as you think. read more

Macaroons taste and texture are not consistent. One is either sift and chewy, while another is over baked and dry. Flavor choices are great: taro, Samoa, lychee, Thai tea, strawberry cheesecake, black sesame, pink velvet, mango, green tea, pb and j. sizes are smaller than most other macaroons. Needs a little more filling. No discount for buying a dozen - $2 each. Staff is very friendly. They offered a sample while I was waiting. Slower than usual considering I was the only one there. Lacked some customer service general common sense. Offered a sample of a drink I liked a lot, but failed because they didn't have ingredients to actually make a full drink. Had to get a slight alternative but wasn't as good. I gave it three stars for the following reasons. 1) macaroon inconsistency. 2) common sense when sampling/speed of service. Would I go back? Possibly. It won't be my first choice, but it also won't be my last. If I'm not in LA near my favorite macaroon place, then there's a chance I'd go here for a quick macaroon fix. Honestly, one of the main reasons why I would come back is because I think the staff is pleasant and friendly. 2. Decor It's cute in here. Definitely a nice place you can bring someone and have a deeper conversation with. I also appreciated the simplicity of their packaging and designs- very well thought out and fit the theme of the cafe very well. 3. Food So, based purely on the macarons alone, I really enjoyed the flavor that these small creations exhibited. I got the Strawberry Cheesecake flavor, and it's probably my all time favourite. I believe I've heard that these macarons are smaller than some other places, but it was actually an okay size for me. I do think macarons in general are pretty pricey, but $2 isn't really that big a deal for me if I want to enjoy something sweet once in a while. I also had the Raspberry, Salted Caramel, and Earl Grey. All the flavours had their own charm, but chances are I'm going to return for my Strawberry Cheesecake fix. Mmm. After coming in a few times, this is a solid 3 star. I have made my own macroons and have tasted most of them. These ones are more Botega Louie/Paulette style ones-small and sweet. The shells are pretty flaky and the fillings and flavors are great. There are about fifteen and you can get them in purple boxes that fit 6 or 12. Why 3 stars? -no bags for take out... Kinda clumsy if you wanted a drink, macroons and a cupcake -Thai tea cupcake - not sure if I went on a bad day, which shouldn't happen for a 2.75 cupcake! The Thai tea cupcake was sooo dense and almost raw/crunchy from being in the refrigerator. It want light and was overly sweet. Need to find a way to get Thai tea extract to make this without using so much sugar. They're pretty close to the taste, but the texture was way off. Also condensed milk frosting was grainy. I was hopping for a whipped cream/condenses milk instead of the powdered sugar frosting or a smooth buttercream instead! - macroons are almost too sweet, they're so small and they don't give discounts if you buy more than 6 - no coffee ....
