I took my mom here for a Mother's Day brunch and my birthday celebration because it falls around the same time every year. I am so glad we chose Hide Out Cafe in Rowland Heights to have our celebration. The food is delicious, the staff is so friendly, and the cafe is so cozy and welcoming. My brother was sponsoring our meal since he couldn't make it, so of course we had to go all out and order two drinks and two main dishes. (Thank you, big brother)! I got the Boba Bear Set $8.50, which comes with a drink and two house-made cookies, and my mom got their Tiramisu Latte $7.00, which is heavy on the coffee liquor, to be honest, but we had fun with it. The drinks are crafted beautifully, and with the open cafe concept, you can see they pay attention to the small details of their crafted drink menu. The house-made cookies that were a part of my Boba Bear Set are not to be forgotten. The cookies are buttery, decadent, and delicious; they are the perfect tea cookies to pair with! I can't wait to go back and try more of their fun drinks and maybe bring a study book the next time. For our main dishes, we shared the Chimi Wagyu & Frites $35.00, and the Fresh Avocado Toast $19.00. We both love eggs so of course we had to get something with eggs in our dish. My mom loved her avocado toast, and they were very generous with the avocado as well on there. The salad is a definite hit with us and included a great dressing on the side. The eggs were cooked perfectly on top of our toast and steak. The frites with my steak were crispy and seasoned well. I also loved the chimi sauce with my steak as well. The portion was huge so we were able to take some back home to enjoy another day. Overall, my mom and I had a great experience and would absolutely come back for another sip of their lattes and try another fun drink on their menu. This place is located in a large plaza with plenty of parking, which is definitely convenient. That said, the food was on the pricey side-both the salad and chicken dishes were close to $20 each. At that price point, we expected better quality and were left a bit disappointed. Grilled Chicken Salad (4.2/5): The chicken was served cold, and the dressing tasted exactly like Kewpie Roasted Sesame dressing straight from the bottle. It was decent, but nothing stood out. Popcorn Chicken (4/5): The chicken was tender but lacked flavor and wasn't crispy at all. It also came with the same salad as the grilled chicken salad, which felt repetitive. Coco Matcha (3.5/5): The matcha was very grainy, bitter, and astringent. The coconut water seemed to be from a bottled product and had very little flavor. I was expecting something sweet, refreshing, and smooth, but it ended up being the opposite. On the positive side, the service was excellent and the food came out quickly. I arrived at Hide Out Cafe (Rowland Heights) on Wednesday (around 10:21AM). Parking is very easy. The lot is big. However, Hide Out Cafe (Rowland Heights) is very hidden. It has no visibility from the street! Staff is very professional and welcoming. Staff politely and cheerfully answered all my questions. Staff is very knowledgeable and accommodating. For example, the location does not have a paper menu; all the menus are accessed via QR Code. Fortunately, Staff let me borrow their iPad which allowed me to see the menu on a larger screen. When I'd arrived, Staff asked if I was dine-in or to-go. I was immediately seated. When I'd inquired about the boba. Staff honestly told me that they needed 15 additional minutes to prepare the boba. I brightly waited. All in all, after the 15 minute wait, the drink took an additional 10 minutes before being ready. As mentioned, I ordered the Boba Bear Set ($8.50). CUTE!!! It's a very aesthetic and memorable presentation. The boba pearls came perfect; they're bouncy, perky, and playful. The brown sugar milk tea mixed with the caramel foam tasted honey-like. It's very TASTY! My biggest nitpick is that the amount felt tiny. Still, it's a wonderful memory that I'm so happy to experience! On ambiance, Hide Out Cafe (Rowland Heights) is comfortable and clean. There's about 13 interior tables, and there's six patio tables. The music is slow-tempo, and the tall ceiling made it feel spacious. In addition, Hide Out Cafe (Rowland Heights) has utility. There's customer internet with password; details are available on the QR code menu. There's also about four electrical outlets. I also appreciated the self-service water station. There's also a gender neutral restroom in the back. Hide Out Cafe (Rowland Heights) felt very hidden yet well-maintained. It's a lovely spot. Overall, I had a magical, memorable experience. This cute cafe is tucked away in a plaza, so you need to park and walk to find it. I tried the Rose Latte, which was tasty with a slightly bitter flavor, it actually smell like roses. I also had the Coco Waffle, the coco was well balanced and not overpowering making it enjoyable. Decaf was not available. Prices are a bit high, but that's understandable these days. The meat is cooked to your preference for the wagyu as well as the egg. it was seasoned nicely and came with the chimchurri sauce. It was a little chewy but still tasted good. The grilled chicken salad was good, portion was rather small to share between two people but it still worked out. I liked the flavoring but I feel like the meat cuts could've been bigger. The berry waffle plate was a nice dish to share. It came with ice cream and egg custard. Great closing to our meal. For drinks--I ordered a cappuccino which was average. They provide you a liter of water for you to refill, which is nice! Parking is pretty easy. This place is inside the plaza and was fairly easy to find, too. I had hoped to give this café a very high review rating. Based on the whole concept of this place, they really sounded like a great and fun place to hang out. I suppose in some ways that's true. For me, it reminds me of a different era when it was not unusual for cafés to have music playing this loud. Overall, the service here was very good and the staff very friendly. Aside from the fact that one of the people working the counter was talking to his friend, at a very high volume, obviously because they couldn't hear each other because the music was so loud. But other than that, the other server was very friendly and attentive. The food and the overall time to get what you order here is where this café really falls short. For example, the food and the drinks arrive with very nice presentation. The flavor, however, was not very good. They should really step up their game. Probably the biggest downside of this café came when my wife ordered one of their Boba Bear Sets. This did not arrive until we had finished our meal. I had also finished my latte. Then, they finally deliverer it, full of apologies. Meaning, it took them at least thirty to thirty-five minutes to prepared it and bring it to our table. Why this occurred, I have no idea. But, I believe we can all agree, that's really not acceptable. I will say, that when we asked for our bill we were told that due to the wait time for the Boba Set, they were not going to charge us for it. I told them we were happy to pay, but the server insisted that it was free. Overall, this is a fun café, with a unique atmosphere and some interesting offerings. More of a 3.5 until we try some of their drinks on the next visit. It's a nice cafe to have some drinks, lunch and chat. Music can be a little loud but it's not too bad. I love the decor and the vibes of the place. Service tends to be a little all over the place since the people making your drinks are also the same people seating, cleaning tables, taking orders and serving. You'll have to get their attention at times to get help. They're very friendly, but they get asked to do a lot here. Food wise, I really enjoyed the sautéed basil spicy chicken. It's got a nice kick to it, and the basil adds a nice flavor profile to the dish. Think Korean spicy chicken/pork you at other places sautéed with basil. Popcorn chicken is a good, seasoned well with lots of garlic. I wonder if I could've asked for spicier next time. I wish the basil was fried better, it just doesn't have any crisp to it.
