I was told that by the onsite manager that she DID NO WANT MY BUSINESS and that she was TERMINATING my rental lease. This hag lives in one of the units and trolls the halls like something under the Freemont bridge. The elevator is regularly out of order and she told me that I couldn't use the stairs. I was told that I was there too long and that I could only be there for a few hours and was told to get out. So I had to move my thing into my friends unit at the same location and was told that I WASN'T ALLOWED TO DO THAT. I told her I was an authorized user on that account and now she's trying to have me trespassed from the property all together. Honestly I believe this could be grounds for legal action, and the contract they force you to sign fringes on unconstitutional, their business practices are unethical and the rent increases are bias and discriminatory based. There is no corporate email for anyone to write a grievance to and they don't return phone calls and even hang up on people. Multiple increases in rent throughout the year, no proration with move out, even if it is on the first. Storage units booked online have no photos and will contain sharp metal edges and exploded pipes and wires. Only a couple elevators, someone's only one servicing a particular unit and will be easily full on weekends. Recommend for small, short term rentals only. You'll want to be out. read more

I was never able to access the unit that I paid for. I was unable to use my gate code because I needed to show a manager my ID for my move in. However, nobody was working that day, even though my move in was scheduled and all information told me I could show up at any point in the day. I had rented a Uhaul that I had to return as I was never able to unload it into the unit. Since then, I went back during their "open" hours every day for a week at varying times, and never once found an employee I could talk to. I did, however, find other customers in similar predicaments waiting for someone to show up, but nobody ever did. The customer service phone line took me straight to either a robot that couldn't help me or a voicemail. None of the voicemails I left were ever returned. I canceled my unit after not being able to access it for a week, as I needed my things moved by the end of the month and was running out of time to do so, and had no guarantee I could ever get into my unit. I lost the money I paid for the unit, the money for the Uhaul, and the money from calling out of work to move on my scheduled day. I am going to keep trying to contact them for some kind of reimbursement, but I am not hopeful I will ever speak to a person. read more

I have used Public Storage multiple times over the last 30 years for short term, long term, all sorts of storage needs, and they have never been anything but professional, clean, and reliable. They aren't always the least expensive on the month to month, but there's always a 1$ first month move in special at one of their locations. You may just have to dig around for it. I also wish they had 24 hours access, or at least later hours at my location. But the employees are always friendly and the location choices are great. read more

This place is dirty and everything is BROKEN! It smells like people smoke in there. My lights for the hall to my unit have been out for WEEKS! The elevator has been out for MONTHS!!!!!!!!!! I have to struggle dragging my stuff up and down their old uneven and narrow stairs. The staff is rude. No body seems to give a rat's a@@ about paying tenants' issues. They use the excuse of the protest but that is complete BULL. I work for a residential property who has easily found contractors during lockdown and they are up the street from Cap Hill. They have NO interest in customer experience whatsoever. Their hours are weird and inconvenient to working people... and they don't offer garbage drop locations (wtf) or a working bathroom. I have reached out so many times. Corporate Public Storage doesn't respond to ANYTHING. And as mentioned before, the facility staff don't give a damn (i am not sure why people who have no customer skills or who dont like interacting with people, end up in customer service jobs). This is LITERALLY, no exaggerations, the worst experience/storage unit I've ever been to and attempted to use. If I could give them zero stars, I would've. First off, I was assigned a unit that pretty much doesn't exist. I asked a few of the people that were there checking in on their things for help and even they were puzzled by this. The first day, I waited an entire hour after they were supposed to open and NO ONE ever showed up. I've called and left several messages, requesting a refund as well as cancellation of my unit and NO ONE HAS CALLED ME BACK. I even reached out to the customer support online and was advised "they couldn't cancel my unit" and that I would have to reach out to the property manager to do so. When I told them I've already done that, as well as waited to speak to someone, and no one ever showed up, the rep told me that they couldn't further assist me and disconnected from the chat. WTF? This is seriously the worst!!!! Meanwhile at my new unit down the street, they were SO nice, they even helped me carry all my shit into the unit!!! Mind blown at the customer service, unlike this shit hole. UPDATE: Finally got a call back from public storage, this morning. I signed up for a rental on 2/3 (Thursday). Today is Monday 2/7. I had been calling since Thursday, and trust me, I know that sounds annoying but literally could not get a response out of anyone. The guy I spoke to, Rio, was pretty rude in my opinion. He just kept telling me and re-assuring me that the unit is there but he'll go ahead and cancel my account and try to refund me back. Really? Also super condescending, just kept telling me that "oh well it's there, you probably just didn't look hard enough". Dude, I literally had to bother 5-6 random renters there asking them to see if maybe I was crazy but I couldn't find it. Then I advised him that I even waited for an hour at opening (9:30am, when the office is supposed to open) to see if I could get help and NO ONE EVER CAME. But apparently it's still my own fault I didn't look hard enough. Yea okay. I do not recommend this place whatsoever. Another tenet there was telling me that his code hasn't really been working for months now, so there are days when he can't even get into the storage unit. lol also told me that they very rarely responded to any sort of complaints. Further displeased, but now on a financial level. Continual price hiking. Started out at $94 a month, now a few years later I'm at $123 a month. Here's the kicker, if you select a move out date as I did recently, you'll get an automated email offering you 6 months at a lowered rate. This rate they quoted me was $98. Soooo how much does it fucking cost then public storage? Price gouging like this blows my mind for the worst storage experience I've ever had, including cheap (what I thought was) terrible storage in Spokane. Hours suck, dirty, smelly, druggies living out of units, broken elevators, flooding issues (luckily not too much for my unit, but many experienced worse), staff seemingly missing many times, nobody here gives a rats ass about customers. The facility hours (6am-6pm) bring this place down to 3 stars for me. I work a 9-5, and I am not a morning person, so moving invariably means taking days off of work. Because I cannot move past 6pm (due to these store's bullshit hours) I had to take 2 days off rather than one recently. Hours lost this store another star... while the facility is open from 6am-6pm, the office is only open starting at 9:30am. So, if you want to rent a dolly to move things, you've gotta wait until then... just inconvenience all the way around. read more

There are people living here, drug deals, people shooting up and spilling out of their units into the hallway. It's disgusting. The entire property is gross. While moving out, we saw at LEAST 20 people come and go with nothing but a backpack on. They all went to the same 3 units and then left. There are used needles on the grounds and homeless people following you in through the locked gates. The staff is too busy hanging outside with their boyfriends to pay much attention. I cannot believe I paid $197 a month and this is what we get. Gross. I have always lived in the city and know what to expect, but I've used other storage facilities in the area and they are cleaner and have competent staff. Too bad nothing will come of this as corporate doesn't seem to mind those who live in the units and sell drugs out of them. This place is a shit hole. The location is convenient and the location of my locker is convenient, but the operating hours are poor. Only accessing the building between 9am - 6pm on weekdays is challenging. We've had poop outside our locker and the topper is the price. We've had this locker for over 8 years, no problems, no late payments etc. and were being charged nearly twice market rate ($158 with insurance, market $85). It took almost two months for the request to lower rate and they only lowered it to $128 with insurance. Find a better place. read more

The place is really dirty and my unit always smells like cigarette smoke and there are needles on the ground sometimes. Also, the exit ramp is very steep and bottoms out my Toyota, which is not even a low-clearance car -- there is no warning sign about the low clearance, so watch out. When my car bottomed out, a staff member told me that the Corporate Office refuses to put a "warning, low clearance sign" up, despite many complaints. The place is *really* dirty, smells like mothballs and rot. If it were cheap, that would be one thing, but it's also very expensive. They should encourage the people living inside there not to smoke cigarettes inside and also management should put a couple of sharps units around so they have some place to safely dispose of their spent needles, otherwise they end up on the ground. It took a long time for my stuff to air out after removing it from this storage facility. This is probably one of the dirtiest storage places on capitol hill, FYI read more

Storing your treasures is a pain but the process for arranging it doesn't need to be. This location has a seasoned manager, Julian, who makes the process hassle-free. He didn't try to oversell insurance, locks, boxes, air freshener (though might use it :) The location is good right in middle of Cap Hill, there is secure parking and accessible. They have carts/dollys to move your stuff. They are not 24/7, 8-7, I think. But the difference for me was Julian's help. Fast efficient and friendly, and given the business and neighborhood he must get a lot. read more

Do not even think of storing anything here. We used this facility and were robbed blind. For two weeks the unit next to ours was vacant. Persons unknown bent the wire that separates units and climbed over. What did we lose? Wedding crystal, family silver, records, photographs. The thieves had plenty of time and they chose carefully. No security cameras. We had insurance, but that does not replace family items. The management could not have been less interested in the robbery. Letters to the corporate office went unanswered. Really frustrating experience. Reserved a unit at a set price and confirmed over the phone. Brought in my reservation confirmation email at the specified date and time. They showed me a much smaller unit (40% of the square footage specified on my reservation) and tried to charge me the same price. After showing them my confirmation email, they told me that they would not honor it and I could pay the same price for a smaller unit or leave. Went to Seattle Vault and had a much better experience with not only lower prices but prices and storage size that didn't change when I arrived. After searching around a bit, Public Storage offered the best rates and is conveniently located 2 blocks from our apartment. On top of that, the first month is only $1, which gave us some flexibility as we weren't sure if we were going to end up using it. The check-in service was outstanding. After booking online, Michelle helped us save some money by downgrading to a smaller unit. She also stayed well past their office closing hours to help us get setup. Today I found out somebody stole some electronics and wine from my unit in a very suspicious way! The response from the manager assuring that it was my fault for not putting my lock the right way! Which is not True I always double check any door is closed for sure! He even said that the insurance company was going to denied my claim because they were gonna mention that it was my fairly! Only thing they do is charge you for a broken down elevator, no parking cuz they use to all the spots with garbage bins that if you throw anything in there.. yup they charger to nearl $100.00. no compassion for covid 19 in fact they are taking advantage of people and their misfortunes. Unit was broken into, management seemed very unconcerned and condescending about the situation. UPDATE: filed a complaint with Public Storage - the people I spoke to agreed that the manager made unnecessary unhelpful comments. Also that management has FULL authorization to show customers security footage and that it was odd this manager refused my request. The employees here have always been friendly, accommodating, and professional...except today. Received a call this morning that my unit was unlocked and that I needed to come put a lock on it. I called back then quickly came over and was told again and again that I needed to put a lock on it. I HAD a lock (a heavy duty master lock combination lock) on there and told them if it's gone then my unit was broken into. The manager, Julian, seemed very unconcerned and spoke to me very condescendingly as if it was my responsibility to make sure my storage unit was secure, which it was when I was last there three days ago. The first thing he said after I said my unit had been broken into was "what kind of lock was it? Oh it was a combination lock those are the easiest to break into, we recommend people use our locks" to which I responded "well maybe you should tell people that". He was very flippant and said that they do tell people. A friend of mine and my father were the ones who set up my unit for me and they were never advised on what type of lock to use. My father isn't an idiot, he will always err on the side of caution and he had purchased the lock. The manager then said to me "well we can't put a gun to someone's head and make them buy a certain lock". Condescending much? Had to buy one of their cylindrical locks which had the key break inside of it as soon as I tried to use it. Julian told me sometimes the keys are made too thin OK SO THESE TRUSTY LOCKS YOU WANT US TO USE BREAK IMMEDIATELY? I asked about security cameras to which he responded "well we can't have cameras in every hallway". Am i not paying $140 a month for SECURE storage? There is definitely a lack of accountability in this place. He kept on asking me about what was taken - most of my belongings are in this unit and it's hard to keep a solid inventory of everything I own. My grandmothers pearls and two designer bags were taken (that I know of). I asked if I could see security footage if someone was carrying something recognizable but he refused and pretty much said that process makes people jump to conclusions. He sent me to the police station where I filed a police report. The officer told me they have an agreement with this Public Storage facility which has PS filing the burglary reports and that it was strange the manager had sent me down to file my own report. The officer was much more understanding and concerned than the PS employees. Only my unit was broken into although other units on my floor had locks that could easily be broken into with a bolt cutter. I mentioned how the past three times I've been here, sketchy things have been going on. The last time I was in before today one of my unit neighbors (a man who has apparently been reprimanded multiple times for spending too much time in the facility) hung out in my doorway telling me about his daughter getting arrested and stuff about methadone clinics etc etc. the time I was here before that there was a mentally unstable man who I didn't see but was yelling very loudly about believing in murder and killing black people and Jews while also hitting himself and making a commotion. When I brought this up that my past three experiences had been sketchy, the manager curtly told me that I should call and have an employee come up with me. Why my safety in their "secure" facility is my responsibility doesn't make any sense to me. I had an expensive, heavy duty master lock on my unit. I've found needles and the scent of heroin in the facility before. The entrance is a large gate for car entry which takes around a minute to open and close which is easy for people to walk into. I have been here before when street people have followed me inside. This place obviously has little care for their security levels. I walked around my floor and there were multiple units with worse locks that could easily be cut and only one security camera by the elevator. I will be moving back to the facility on 12th Ave where I had a much more positive experience. I would not recommend this place mostly due to the flippant, condescending attitude of the manager and the lack of accountability. read more

The facility is fine and the managers were very helpful when we moved in BUT after 5 mths of storage, the price suddenly went up 34%! I had been told to probably expect a "modest" increase after 6 months and thereafter every year but the cost increase was ridiculous and after only 5 mths! When I called to speak to the manager, she was sympathetic but she is unable to make a decision because it is all corporate based. She submitted a request to lower the rent but our request was denied . A "bait and switch" situation for sure. We will move out as soon as possible and won't rent from this company again. Great place for storage! Good location, access hours are reasonable, clean and easy to get in and out (personal access code and key to locker on site if you choose). I've had to move my unit multiple times as I brought more stuff. The guys were super cool about it and are always incredibly helpful, professional and friendly. I really don't have any idea where the two negative reviews here are coming from. I've used this Public Storage location about ten times since moving to this area, and I've never had any problems, ever. The front staff is courteous, helpful, and friendly. They've always gone above and beyond to accommodate my specific needs. Elizabeth S: Threatening phone calls? Those are courtesy calls to remind you of how long you have before you have to pay the full-month's rent again. I get these courtesy calls every time I rent, and I never once thought of them as threatening. Furthermore, if you were paying late fees, it was because you didn't take the time to read their easy-to-understand terms. They are happy to go over them with you in detail if you ask, like I did when I first started renting. Andee M: Your compliments to the excellent managerial staff notwithstanding, your review is a joke. The place does not smell like chlorine or urine, and living in a unit is a violation of the terms of the lease. And if you are so concerned about the prices, maybe you should learn to live with a little less stuff? That said, the prices are really reasonable for inner-city storage. The only thing I wish is that it was a 24 hour access unit. But I really don't know if that exists. Take note of the hours that you can have access to your unit and plan accordingly. read more
