To anyone thinking about using a storage facility managed by Public storage PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS CAREFULLY BEFORE! I was told by customer service that prices would not increase more than 8% a year; but after 4 months my storage unit went up in price by 54 dollars (a 33% increase) without there really being a reason for that. I would not go with them anymore at all. On top of the price hike, the floor I had my unit on smelled of dead mice or rats. It was that cheesy really bad smell that was in there for the 6 months I rented; it never went away. The opening times are inconvenient for someone who works all day. In short: look for a better and serious company; the only nice thing I can say is that the toilet was clean and that the guys working there were nice overall. Not only does this place have mold, rats, mice, rodent feces everywhere. The management also sucks. I went in to clean out my storage unit early 2 days into the month The manager at the counter told me that if I did I would get a refund for the prorated right. So I cleaned out my entire storage unit she told me she would have her employees make sure it was cleaned out and that I would be getting a refund. I never got a refund. I called customer service they said they don't do refunds. Even though the manager told me I would be getting a refund. Obviously public storage employees are not on the same page. read more

Our storage was broken into! We stored our staff only for 2 weeks. We came and lock didn't match with my keys that were originally given to us by Public storage. I went to management and first they didn't want to listen. But then somehow he found key and open my lock. Whattt??? He said I don't want to look inside and left. While we were opening door latch he left. I saw horrible things all our suitcase clothes were ransacked. All were on the floor. And somebody left the bike inside that didn't belong to us. Later we found out that Our Things were missing as well!!! When I went again to management he wasn't surprised and showed me file with complains about whole property being vandalized. Nobody called us nobody informed us. PS we rented storage from California prior our trip to Seattle and we were on the road to Seattle then I got call from public storage and they said that our storage was vandalized. We said we are not even there so it's empty. They said come and we will give you new one. And then when we came she gave us storage on first floor and in 2 weeks when we came to pick our things it was vandalized. Seems this things happening often and I don't have trust in public storage anymore!!! Be careful. We filed a police report and he gave me insurance to contact but they cover only up to $5,000 I had more valuable purses there. read more

Weds, Aug 3. So far, so great! We will see how it goes long-term, but I so far am very happy with PS. I was able to sign up online, so when I arrived to move in, the fantastic front desk person just looked me up and had everything I needed! (I think her name was JaQuina? I should have written it down!) She brought me a cart to use, and once I was loaded, she led me to my unit and answered my questions along the way. Everything was clean and looked pretty secure. She was able to retain a key at the front desk for my colleagues to use if needed. No waiting. I was in and out with my carload of crap in less than 30 minutes. read more

Deceptive pricing practices. The standard policy of this business is to get you in at great 'promotional' rates, then to raise them on you after only a few months. Knowing it's a great inconvenience to their customers to move their storage, they can get away with this, and all they say is "read your lease." Terrible customer service. Be ready for them to be closed (without notice) during their already short available hours. Also, you will be storage 'neighbors' with local homeless that use their units as closets. My wife is not comfortable going to the unit alone. read more

The District Manager Lisa Leavens and her colleague Lisa Thomas as well as the Property Manager, were hard to reach and talk to when I had questions. I needed them to sign a document that was required of me to get them to complete from the State Liquor Board, but they didn't explain why they couldn't complete it, other than all issues are included in the lease. This is the kind of issues you have when a large company is not flexible to small businesses, and anyone with a legitimate request. Imagine if each customer is given the respect and communication necessary that their boss within Public Storage receives from them. read more

I made a huge move from Arizona to Seattle, and without the help of JeQuetta at the public storage on Alaskan Way in Seattle, I would not have had such a smooth transition. She was very helpful, not only by assisting me on the appropriate unit, allowing me to park my moving truck overnight, and also giving me great suggestions on where to travel in Seattle, to eat and lodge. Yep it can and has gotten worse here. Last time we accessed our storage unit there was an empty beer can and pillow in the hallway... Is someone sleeping here at night? Also there was one guy just sitting in his storage unit, and it looked like he was living in it which is forbidden. I called and complained over a month ago... no response of course. They just want your money and aren't going to make any improvements. We have had it with them and this is the last straw... We are moving our stuff out asap! Just moved in yesterday and got a unit in the basement we come back today to store more items and it turns out the elevator is not working. They didn't say how long it may be down nor did they even post a sign on the elevator door. This is a huge inconvenience when you're moving big items in and you can have to take the stairs. It's been two days now and the elevator at this location is still down. I can't understand why they can't get this issue resolved! They suggested we carry our big heavy boxes down the stairs to our storage unit. What kind of crap is that?! Now we are having to rent a separate storage unit to hold our items until they get their elevator issue fixed in which the property manager has no idea when it will be fixed. Chad was a a total rockstar! I'd reserved online and set up a time to come in on Saturday. Chad followed up and left me a voicemail within 20 minutes of me hitting "reserve" on the website. As the day went on, Chad followed back up again later in the day to let me know how long they'd be open, and if I didn't make it in on Saturday, what their hours were on Sunday. Unfortunately, my plans changed and I didn't end up being able to go in and complete things until Sunday. When I arrived, Chad was polite and super efficient- he showed me the unit, got me a lock, and had me through all the paperwork inside of about 15 minutes from the time I hit the door. I wish I could give less than one star my couch got mold and fungus on it. They changed insurance companies so I still have yet to even have my claim processed. During the time of the pandemic which we're going through right now they keep giving people late charges and lien fees they completely predatory in ways that no other company is right now. We have been using Public Storage for 6 years with no problems. Recently they revoked their 24 hour access due to a "tenant incident" that we had nothing to do with. Now we're lucky if we have access to our unit for 10 hours each day. As a business owner that operates daily at the Seattle Waterfront, I rely on this storage unit to store my kiosks at Waterfront Park. I've had to close early every day, missing out on hundred of dollars in sales daily. In addition, the Public Storage staff have been less than helpful with the transition. I DO NOT recommend using this company. You'll have better luck with Post Alley Storage a few blocks away. Their staff is top notch and the access hours are perfect for local small business owners. read more

I've had a storage unit at this location for almost two years now, and sadly there's been quite a few issues for me ranging from a facility wide break in two winters ago that was not addressed properly by the staff at the time along with the main issue that happened recently and caused me to write this review. Recently I went down to my storage because unfortunately I had misplaced the key to my unit and wanted to try and work out what needed to be done in order to get a new key/get into my unit. When I arrived there a little before they opened at 930am my friend and I sat down to wait on a set of temporary stairs that the construction workers had erected as part of rebuilding the ramp down to the water front. While we were waiting to hear back from a friend I had called to make sure that I hadn't left my keys in there car I dozed off. Quite abruptly I was woken up by the new property manager of the Alaskan way public storage demanding we "get off his stairs right now" (these stairs aren't normally part of the public storage property and like I said were temporarily there for construction. I've seen plenty of people sit on them throughout my visits). After addressing us without any explanation he disappeared. About ten minutes later he returned and his mannerisms had gotten a lot worse. He proceeded to swear at us saying things like "what the **** are you still doing here I told you bums to get off my steps!" I finally am able to interject and I try to explain what we are doing there telling him I lost my keys and we were just waiting to hear back from a few people to see if anyone could locate them either at there apartments or in their car before I proceeded to purchase a new one and go through the ordeal of cutting off my old lock. While I was explaining he kept interrupting me and saying that doesn't matter because your not supposed to be here anymore I told you to leave you addicts(underneath the stairs were some things of needles from I would assume homeless people doing drugs who knows when). The whole time I tried to address my original issue about having lost me keys he spoke to my friend and I in a very disrespectful manner, even at one point calling us crackheads, which at that point I started to get irritated myself but before things could get out of hand I told my friend let's move since this happened "manager clearly has terrible customer service and doesn't want to help at all. As we finally made our way out to the main road he demanded my name and unit number, I asked him what for and he said that since I refused to tell him the next time I tried to enter the facility he would make sure he put in a report to force and eviction of my unit due to refusing to provide my information and refusing to listen to his demands. This whole experience left me so offended and angry that I was shaking and embarrassed, for someone who is support be the face of a certain storage location to address someone as a crackhead is completely unacceptable as well as demanding things for what seemed to be just for the satisfaction of displaying his authority. I would look for a down different location for your storage needs, or maybe they should hire a new property manager. read more

I've used many self storage facilities as overflow for my inventory over the years and this is one of the better ones. If you need easy access to the downtown Seattle core this location cannot be beat. I thought prices at this location would be higher but they weren't. It has several loading bays that make it easy to load and unload palletized freight. If your truck doesn't level up with the dock there's a bay that has a hydraulic lift that will lift your load off the ground and up to dock level. This location is never too crowded and I can always find an open dock. Most importantly, Patrick, who I believe is the Manager (he's almost always there) is a good guy who conducts himself with professionalism. It's getting harder to find guys like Patrick at businesses like this who understand that just being a nice guy goes a long way. Whether you need to store the contents of your condo for a couple months or you need a place with easy access to pull stock from daily you probably won't do better than this location. read more

You won't feel safe leaving your stuff here. Not during the process of moving in, nor at night when you remember where you left it. The facility is filthy, with a number of people clearly living out of their units in the basement during the day. Some corridors are used as restrooms, resulting in pee leaking into units, and horrible odor. Lights are broken, the manager knows they are broken, and they aren't fixed. The office is understaffed and almost always has a "we will be back on an hour" sign up. read more

If I could give this location 0 stars I would do so. I ordered a unit online for an online promotion of under 30 dollars, which initially attracted me to this space (plus its convenience in location to my art studio and apartment). I come in, sign paper work, and end up leaving confused, owing 90 something dollars more, having already paid 40 additional dollars for the space, 15 dollars for a p.o.s titanium lock, and 15 dollars on insurance (can't move in without that!!). After one month of feeling so frustrated, I never move anything in, and dec ide to cancel my services at the 4th of the month (thanks for calling me on the 1st, I appreciate you billing me for another month because of that). I get a phone call from Tony, one of the managers there, who has consistently been rude, condescending (talking down to me in laments words/tones as if I don't understand English), and interruptive since the day I met him, stating I need to bring the keys by and I will be billed for the month officially since I have not brought the keys by, even though I have already told him I am canceling my services!!!! FORCE remove the lock after a week! Hello!!! Called District Manager, suggested -loosely- ways to make this situation anything less than horrifically frustrating, and she does nothing. No phone call to customer service, no offer to refund my account, no offer to discount my account due to the 100% unsatisfactory experience... NADA. I'm not trying to rip off some company, but common, there is a time and a scenario where reaching out to your customer and trying to make amends is CRUCIAL for positive business and word of mouth experiences!! Overall this place is a rip off, and they need to hire some REAL managers that don't have a power trip and talk to people like they're pawn scum in relation to their IQ stats. There are two simple facts about this place: 1) They will raise your rent after the first year. And we're not talking small amounts - 25% + each year! 2) This particular spot is a haven for drug dealers and the homeless. Two cases in point: a) A few individuals with backpacks, coming and going, on a frequent basis inside the building. I'm talking seeing the same people 3x in an hour. I'm no idiot -- they are keeping their stash at the facility, and they are only taking out just enough "product" so as to not get into major league legal trouble if caught. b) On a couple of occasions, I've seen guys sprawled out across the floor. One time, a dude was reading a book. The other time, a guy was sipping on beer while watching a movie on a laptop. No joke! The management should care what goes on, but they literally turn a blind eye. Why on earth would they allow this behavior on such a frequent basis? I'm not a huge writer of reviews, but I've had so many good experiences with Jequetta who works in the office there that I felt that she really deserved a big shoutout. I moved in with my partner a couple of months ago and only realized that the building closes at 6pm until after I had already confirmed a pick-up time for my movers. The timing I had scheduled would have put us at storage unit after hours. I explained the situation to Jequetta and she graciously and quickly said that she was happy to stay at the office just a little bit later to make sure we got my stuff moved in. Then, when the day came, she even helped us move things back into our unit to help make sure the job got done quickly. Since then, Jequetta has also always gone out of her way to help me and my partner with whatever we needed. Yesterday evening my good friend (she's in her 80s) took a large item to storage very late in the day. The crew at Public Storage bent over backwards to help her. They were gracious and patient as my friend struggled with every moving the item into her locker. They kindly waited and assisted as my friend kept calling me to advise her on how to do this task. Without their help, my friend would not have moved her item in a timely way without feeling frustrated. Finally, the crew also helped fix the storage unit's lock to her satisfaction. I'm not sure why they went the extra mile to help her, but I'm so grateful that they did. THANKS! read more

Our office is across the street so we needed a rental unit to store some equipment in for the time being. We walked in and Jay, the manager I think, helped us quickly set up a unit and helped us carry some of our equipment up to our new unit. One thing I really appreciated was his personal touch. It's rare that the manager of a storage facility would care enough to use your name, but as we were passing another customer of the building he said hello, used their name and had a brief conversation about what they needed.
