AVOID THIS STORAGE FACILITY AT ALL COSTS. 1) YOUR BELONGINGS AREN'T SAFE ESPECIALLY ON FLOOR 5 NEAR THE WINDOWS I stopped by my unit (822) on floor 5 to drop off boxes and found my belongings sitting in stale, smelly water. The unit had been flooded with rainwater, with three large water-damaged areas on the ceiling and water marks down the metal walls. The actual units have no ceiling, allowing water to drip inside. 2) IF YOUR BELONGINGS DO INDEED GET DAMAGED, EXPECT TO BE TREATED AS AN INCONVENIENCE. These people have zero customer service or problem solving skills. If your unit has water damage like mine, you are on your own. SOL. 3) THE LOCAL MANAGEMENT TEAM ACCEPTS ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY I immediately alerted them of the water and there was zero immediate action to rectify the issue. No solution offered. No empathy. No accountability. Nothing. They pushed me off to Bader Insurance. (If you store here, get insurance!) 4) ROGER, THE MANAGER OF THE FACILITY IS USELESS. When I eventually managed to speak with him (after a week) to discuss the next steps of moving out of my unit, he immediately acted as if I was a nuisance for seeking a resolution to the issue. His customer service skills were non-existent, and he made no effort to offer any form of make good or solution to address the urgent problem. My belongings were still sitting in water. He was defensive, apathetic and unprofessional. Instead of showing empathy, finding a comparable unit on the same floor and honoring my current rate, he acted as though it was outlandish to even ask him to collaborate on a solution. He proceeded to run me in circles until I hung up on him. 5) NICK, THE ASST MANAGER, IS EVEN MORE USELESS AND THAT'S PUTTING IT NICELY. Every interaction I've had with this man has been odd. He is unfriendly and unhelpful every time I've engaged with him. He lurks around the storage office with a frown. As a result of my most recent experience with him, I truly believe he is somewhat sinister. 6) THEY GET PLEASURE IN KICKING A HORSE WHILE ITS DOWN After two exhausting, emotionally and mentally draining hours moving my unit from 822 to 864, covered in muddy water and realizing just how much of my furniture was damaged, my friend tossed a bit of plastic wrap into the office trash bin on our way out. Nick immediately threatened us with a $100 dumping fee. No acknowledgement or empathy for my situation, just looking to be a d*ck. My friend argued with him, and I picked up the trash, cursed him out and left. I imagine he gets off on the 1% of power he felt in that moment threatening a woman with a $100 dumping fee. Cool story bro. 7) THEY HAVE EXTREMELY LIMITED HOURS Their hours are extremely limited. I often rush to the facility after work, but half the time between 5 and 6 pm, the Assistant Manager is nowhere to be found. I've had to wait over 20 minutes and call or email to get access countless times. Local management clearly doesn't care. 8) They have one TINY "passenger" elevator and a freight elevator. You aren't allowed to go up on the freight elevator so you have to depend on the Assistant Manager to actually do his job. Good luck with that. 9) The facility is in a busy area, and a moving truck is going to have to maneuver through the tiny alley way and it is TIGHT. Not ideal. I'm currently dealing with Bader Insurance and figuring out the next steps. I reluctantly moved my items to a different unit to salvage them and assess the damage. I'm stuck at this facility for now. I don't know what's worse: renting a truck and spending more money to move to another storage facility, risking further damage by staying here, or seeing the Assistant Manager's smug face every time I visit. The only silver lining in this ordeal was the Regional VP named Ken. He listened to my complaints, offered empathy and swiftly resolved the issue by reserving a comparable unit on the same floor. He didn't have to step in, but he did, exemplifying why he's a Regional VP. He gets it. I am 100% certain the local management haven't informed ANY tenants about my situation. So I am sure more people near unit 822 are impacted and just haven't discovered the damage yet. Rent at your own risk. read more

Had a great experience moving in extra stuff out of my apartment. I was looking for a place that wasn't overly priced for a 5x5 in the summer season. Luckily for me Seattle Vault was the best option. Nick did a great job of giving me the run down of what to expect in terms of pricing and insurance. His service was amazing! He made things quick and easy to understand. This review is in regards to Seattle Vault as a U-haul vendor. I do not store there and after this experience, never will. I wanted to move my stored belongings from Lynnwood closer to my home in downtown. This reservation was made the first week of December. I called U-haul customer support this morning to make sure I could return the truck same day if need be, rather than next day like the reservation says. I was authorized by the U-haul representative to do so. I arrived to return the truck at about 3:30 this afternoon, but wasn't sure where to park it. There was another customer in the lobby, but no attendant. After a few minutes the other customer began to leave, I asked her how long she'd be waiting, she said 5 minutes and left. I walked around the back side of the building and noticed several other trucks parked, so I decided to bring the truck to that location. It's a small lot and there were trucks parked haphazardly, but I was able to pull the truck into the lot, within the security gate so it would be able to close. I just figured the attendant would move it where they wanted it once I checked the truck in. Upon returning to the lobby, there was still no attendant. I waited another 5 minutes, but don't have all day to sit around so I dropped the contract and key in the drop box outside. The box has a note that says you'll be charged $20 if you don't complete the check in process on uhaul.com. So I spent the time to go to uhaul.com, login and attempted to check the truck in. Once I logged in, there was a completely different return location address. I assumed it was just an administrative error because I received a confirmation email at 9:30 this morning with the pick up and drop off location (attached). I did not complete the online return process because it said the vehicle needed to be at a different address. Either way, the keys were already in the box, so I couldn't retrieve them if I wanted. The entire time I spent doing this, the attendant never returned. I left. When I returned home about 20 minutes later, I decided to call U-haul customer support about the discrepancy and to make sure everything was alright with the return. I gave the representative the reservation number and she told me the truck had been checked in and everything was good. Great. 10 minutes later I receive a phone call from Seattle Vault telling me that the truck was returned to the incorrect location and that I would need to come back and return it to the correct location or be charged double. I explained everything to the woman on the phone but she didn't seem to care. Tried to tell me I received a phone call about the change earlier today, but I did not. I don't have any voicemails or emails from Seattle Vault or U-haul about the change off drop off location. The woman was abrasive and became rude once I assured her I would not be returning. Pros: Kandice, online reserve system (they didn't jerk me around either), can pay online. They require insurance, and have some interesting, nonconventional sizing. The hours suck. I thought they would be fine but not being able to get in afterhours is miserable. Bob is the worst. The other reviews are not exaggerated. I took a chance and tried Vault anyway, but no, it is true. He is aggressive, gruff, disrespectful, and will harass u the entire time you are there. I came in 2 hours before close, and Bob spent too much time supervising me and giving reminders that they close at 6. Bob is free with his unsolicited opinions. If you get firm with him then he will back down but i don't like having to be put in that situation. He must be related to the owner, or is blackmailing someone. I cannot fathom any other way he has been able to retain his position. I am leaving Vault early because of Bob. I was only planning for 6 months anyway, but I am leaving in 3. This place is great, convenient and Kandice is wonderful. She is helpful, communicative and pleasant. Bob is terrible. If he's manning the desk I recommend you come back. Trust me. We rented a locker here fo 4 months. When we moved out of the locker, it was extremely easy. They have rolling carts for your use, a loading dock and ample parking. the freight elevator makes things go quickly. Its clean and convenient for this looking for storage in. downtown Seattle. This was honestly one of the most terrifying customer service experiences I have ever had. The man with glasses and grey hair behind the glass did not have his mask over his nose and I am high risk and when I asked the fist time for him to please put it up he was rude but did it and when it fell down for the 6th time I asked if he could please put it back on and he told me to go outside if I was going to be so fucking crazy about it while my partner tried to defuse the situation he continued to yell at me with his mask down from his nose and got within 6 feet of me. He then continued to yell at me and opened the door and told me to get out because I said it was a state mandate. I told him that with so many people dead he was more worth dying over. I'm in the parking lot shaking. He then slammed the doors and locked them all because I asked him to wear a mask. Don't go here. Went to vault storage on Howell at 5:20pm yesterday and the attendant Bob said that they close at 6pm and that renting a storage location took 20 minutes but he had 'too much to do' (no other customers were in the store) and didn't have time to sell us a storage unit before close in 40 minutes. We drove to a a competing storage place a few blocks away that also closed at 6 and reserved a unit before 6pm. If a storage place and a hospital had a baby, this would be it. This place is absolutely SPOTLESS! Every time I'm here to grab stuff I feel like they just re-painted or something - it's the cleanest storage facility I've ever seen. And it's well lit and not too hot! Great for being in and out and moving heavy things without sweating your ass off. The loading dock can only fit 2 (maybe 3) cars at a time. If it's busy you're screwed. The place itself is also right smack in the middle of some high-traffic areas. So be warned! It's best to come here before/after rush hour otherwise you'll sit stuck in traffic for no reason. I've never had any issues coming here midday or midmorning. read more

I've been a customer of these guys off and on for years, ever since they opened. During that time I've rented a storage area repeatedly, used their trucks to move out and then back in again several times. During all that time the experience had been great. Then today I rented a truck from Seattle Vault to move my things out. I asked the assistant manager to move the truck around to the loading dock. With me screaming to stop, he backed into another customer's car. Then he hopped out of the truck and proceeded to inform me that I would be held accountable for that damage, not Seattle Vault. I then spent the next hour on the phone with my insurance and SPD. He apparently did the same with U-Haul. At the end of that, he backpedalled and informed me I would not be held accountable. It all turned out ok (though I didn't get to move today as planned), but I'm very unhappy that the first inclination here is blame the customer. I'll be clearing out my storage area at the end of the month and will not be using these guys again. read more

I rented a U-Haul truck from Seattle Vault Self Storage and was told that the tank was full, but if the gauge showed that it was below full when I returned it, I would be charged a $30 service charge plus $5 per gallon for gas. When I returned the truck, the gas gauge clearly showed that the tank was full and at the same level as it had been when I picked it up. I had also only driven the truck a total of 4 miles. However, because I've been scammed by U-Haul before, I took a picture of the dashboard with my camera phone. The next day, when I received the receipt, it showed that they charged me $40 extra ($30 service charge and $10 gas charge) When I called them and asked why I was charged $40 extra, I was told that when they looked at the gas gauge it "looked like it was a tick below full." However when you look at the photo, it isn't even ambiguous. The tank is clearly completely full. (The picture I took of the full tank is posted online at http://www.ripoffreport.com/Search/Seattle%20Vault%20Self%20storage.aspx if anyone is interested in seeing what these people are claiming was "A tick below full.") I went to my credit union and filled out paperwork to contest the charges and I sent them an email with my photo of the full gas gauge. Then this morning I got a call from the store manager, Leo Alvarez, who informed me that they would be willing to take off the $30 service charge but not the $10 gas charge for the purchase of 2 gallons of gas. (This was after I sent them the photo with proof that their "tick below full" claim was completely false.) When I tried to ask Mr. Alvarez how I could have possibly use 2 gallons of gas driving a truck that gets 12 miles to the gallon, when I only drove the truck a total of 4 miles, I was told to "loose the attitude." Well Mr. Alvarez, I'll "loose the attitude" when you loose your shady/unethical business practices. read more

I reserved a truck here from uhaul's website because it was the closest. I went to pick up my truck 15 minutes early because I assumed there might be paper work to fill out. After the initial handing over of payment the employee searched for the keys. He quickly informed us he could not find the keys. After about 5 minutes of an unsuccessful search asked if we could do something else while he found the keys. No, in fact we can't, we are moving. At this point it became clear the employee didn't consider it his problem. He had no solution for us and clearly did not care. Eventually we got him to call a few other uhauls in the area. He told us one in Ballard had the truck we needed, gave us the address and sent us on our way. As we plug in the directions we realize the address is closer to shoreline, 8 miles in further (we were paying per mile, not to mention Seattle rush hour traffic both ways). We called uhaul traffic just to confirm the address and the traffic employee informed us that the reservation the vault store had made was cancelled. The traffic employee made our reservation at this point. When we finally got our truck in Shoreline, the uhaul employee was more than helpful. He went out of his way to accommodate us. He is the only reason I would consider using uhaul again. Find another uhaul location. Don't create extra stress in your move by using this company. read more

Clean, shiny, new, good rates especially with promotions through their website. Indoor storage means our electronics will be better kept than non-climate-controlled outdoor units. I did not rent a truck, just a storage space. My friend and I stopped by and asked to see the storage spaces. Sean went out of his way to show us around. The next day we rented a larger space than planned, which was no problem, and he made sure to give us the one closest to the freight elevator. The locks they use are cylinder locks, not padlocks, so they're much harder to pick - a plus. We bought the lock onsite and they don't gouge you on the price (it was the same cost as padlocks at Fred Meyers). In general, Sean was very helpful and friendly. Cons: They close earlier than I like. The area is packed with traffic during rush hour, though we did want a space close to downtown public transit. Anyone could theoretically walk in during business hours through the loading bay as opposed to other storage places where you need a key code to get into the area. There were a few other people moving boxes in and one or two seemed a little shady but maybe that's what you get with storage places. Note: the storage areas are open on top with metal wire grating keeping them secure. I figure that anything I leave in storage will get dusty on top if there is construction in the building. This isn't a big problem for us but could be if you want to store couches or upholstered stuff. read more

Shawn dominated the line and everyone in front of me appeared happy with the service they received. Once it was my turn, he did a great job of explaining my options and I feel really helped me figure out what the best deal for me would be. This place is very clean, organized, the hours of operation were a big plus in me picking this spot. The prices are competitive which I figured they'd be a lot higher considering the downtown location. I'd recommend this place to anybody! read more

On Friday, we reserved a unit on the 5th floor at Seattle Vault Self Storage. Saturday, we picked up our Uhaul and loaded up half of our stuff - what needed to go into storage before we had to be out of our old place on Sunday. We showed up at Vault in the early afternoon and were told that the ONE freight elevator for the ENTIRE building was down. The teenager at the front desk shrugged and told us it was being fixed the next day, never looking up from his comic. We were also told that the smaller elevator could only hold "a couple hundred pounds," so we were fucked there too. We were stuck either paying for the truck for another day and having our stuff sit in it on the street overnight or go elsewhere. Of course we left. We returned the $11 lock we were forced to buy from them, but weren't refunded the money for the day. And the money for the lock wasn't even actually refunded; they said they'd mail us a check which of course hasn't shown up yet, and considering it's a familiar tactic, I suspect never will. There is literally no good reason they couldn't have handed us cash. So a word of advice: ask if your storage facility has more than one freight elevator. Otherwise you might be left planning for a big, expensive move that ends up doubly expensive and a total time sink when you don't have much time to spare. read more

I rented here because it was close to my apartment and needed a place to put my excess things. The move in process was great, manager was extremely nice, and didn't hard sell me on their insurance, since most renter's insurance policies cover storage units. Fast forward 3 months - I'm back to get my couch. Open the unit door, and half of my stuff is gone! I tell the manager, he said they hadn't seen anything stolen lately, and found "light tampering" with the door. And since I didn't get their insurance, I'd have to pay my renter's insurance deductible $$$. My moving company said this has happened to a couple other people they've moved before too. She was incredibly attentive, like as soon as we were done unloading the truck she appeared to help us operate the elevator (which we did a thousand times). Our move was very disorganized and last minute, and so sometimes we had keys and sometimes didn't, and we didn't remember where the floor was, and she remembered everything and helped us get in. I can't express how appreciative we were to have her help us! She is amazing, and I hope the company knows what an outstanding employee they have! I picked them because it seemed so secure. Honestly I would have been better off going with Public Storage. Somehow, someway all of our stuff was stolen out of our unit as well as other units. They took my Sleigh Bed, Danican mattress, the matching dresser, and night stands . They stole my brothers XBox One and Vizio Tv along with the TV stand. Items that meant a lot to us because we worked so hard for them. The police had to get involved. By the time we got everything back it was all scratched up. The only item we didn't get back was the XBox, which at the time was $500 dollars. Turns out this was a craigslist scam. So they were looking for gold. It's sucked to be burglarized. I legit felt violated. Unfortunately we trusted them to keep our items safe and didn't get full coverage. So if you choose this company, GET FULL COVERAGE! read more

I absolutely do not recommend spending your money here. I only needed storage for 7 days. I double-checked through email with the property manager, Kandice Rice, who said that my fee would be pro-rated (they charge by the month). Great. I come to move in my items and triple-check that I will be charged only for 7 days. She told me I would pay for the month then get a check 7 days later with the prorated amount. *I paid, moved in no problem* She said yes and I even got her signature verifying this because of exactly what I'm about to tell you in this review. Come move-out day, an older white man with glasses (didn't catch his name so be on your toes if you encounter him whilst moving in) is operating the front desk. Move-out is relatively fine except for his lack of manners and assumption that I would steal the dollies. (I'm an "underrepresented minority" if that matters. I wish it didn't but who knows, these days.) Whatever, I just want to move my things out. The problem occurs when I am checking out and get my receipt saying that I will not be refunded for the excess amount that I was told I would. I tell him that the property manager, Kandice Rice, told me that I would be refunded. This man curses in front of me, saying "god-damn", raises his voice and blamed me in front of my 2 male friends helping me move out as well as another customer. He is yelling and telling me what I "should have done". He makes a phone call to who sounds like a woman, I'm assuming Kandice, and I hear their entire conversation in which I am blamed for not notifying that my cost would be prorated. Luckily, myself and my 2 friends kept our cool, tried to calm the front-desk guy down as well as myself. Another customer witnessed this as well. I'll be calling the property manager to *hopefully* get this resolved but this "customer service" is absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. As a woman, I'm glad I had my male friends with me as I was EXTREMELY uncomfortable dealing with the older white man who raised his voice and cursed at me. *I was respectful, kept my voice stern but at a normal level, didn't do anything that could possibly provoke anyone* Do better. EDIT: I came back to add that I saw on their website that they had UHAUL rentals before I'd even set foot on this property. I called to reserve and was told by a woman on the phone that this particular location did not have UHAULs. Guess what, they do. This place is super easy and super convenient. Right smack in the middle of downtown Seattle with easy access to major roads and highways so access is real easy. The loading dock is located in a back alley so you won't be bothered with any sort of traffic issues although if you choose to visit during or around rush hour, you may have some issues with getting in and out of the alley. They always have several flatbed carts available to help you move your stuff which makes things real easy and convenient and the whole place just feels brand new as they have done a real good job keeping the place from the type of wear and tear that can make storage facilities look run down and unappealing. If you need space for your gut of worldly possessions, then I would recommend checking these guys out. read more

Nice, new facility. Disorganized management. Came in to pay my bill at 7:30 (posted hours were open until 8) - was told they'd started closing and I'd have to come back another day. Told them I wanted to close out my unit, took my stuff, and kept getting billed. Called and ask for a manager to call me about it - they never got back to me. They then sent me to collections for a bill on a unit I'd already cancelled (which I'd tried to call to straighten out with them). Treating your customers this way isn't okay - even if it's just because you're not sufficiently organized. Until these people get their stuff together - you're better off using another facility. read more

First off they are liars and unethical - reason enough to stay away. The unload and parking availability is poor. The vibe is very 'downtown' and sketchy people are commonly roaming both outside and in building. They are quick to hit you with extra fees like for locks and late fee if your auto-pay changes. HEADS UP - This location is CLOSING at the end of the year (2016) so the building can be demolished and replaced with an apartment complex. I just called to rent a unit and they told me they are referring everyone to "West Coast Self Storage", a new and currently well-reviewd storage option in Columbia City about 4 miles SW of Seattle Vault. Of course many people considering Seattle Vault probably want to be downtown, and fortunately there are a number of other self-storage options nearby. I'm rating the Vault 3 stars just because they are probably not a good choice for new users due to impending closure--not because of any problems or meaning any disrespect. If you only need very short term rental, maybe they will still do that. read more

Rented a U-Haul cargo van from here to move apartments over the weekend, and had no issues. The location is conveniently close to me, and I was lucky enough to be coming here on a weekend morning (yay for avoiding rush hour struggles). We were checked in and had the keys to the van in under 10 minutes. Dropoff instructions were clear, and we were charged a few bucks extra because we ended up driving the van a further distance than we estimated at check-in time. I just rented a storage unit, and I was very pleased with the experience. Clean, dry, and well lit facility. Easy access and phenomenal location, all for a competitive price. What really set the facility apart from others was Leo. Leo is the manager and he did an excellent job helping us get setup, gave clear direction and provided excellent customer service. I frankly wasn't expecting a superb customer experience, after all it's self storage, but that's what he delivered. SEATTLE VAULT IS IN A CLASS BY ITSELF WHEN IT COMES TO CUSTOMER SERVICE...AND I'M SOMEONE WHO KNOWS. Most peole rent storage when they move, or run out of space. I am in a third category that rents storage space as an extension of my home an business spaces. This means I am regularly rotating items through my storage: I have special needs; I deal with the staff regularly so I am choosey and knowlegeable. In seattle I have rented from Public Storage (Alaskan way,Capital Hill), Shurguard, ABC Mini Storage, Belltown Storage, Roosevelt Self Storage...and a few others. The prices are about the same and you can easily call around to find which have the facilities you need (sizes of units,hours of operation). Why I have changed location so many times is crappy customer service or worse, customer service that starts out great to get you to sign then vanishes. ******************Then last spring I moved into the Vault on a whim. Public Storage on alaskan way changed its policies after ther rented me a $425 per month unit....i.e. they stopped lying to me about the policy. i decdided to give the upstart Seattle Vault Self Storage a try. Right away I was impressed: easy access to highway, awesome location, ample parking for downtown. The Manager Leo signed me up. He was professional, honest and friendly...their frst month free offer, unlike many if you read the fine print, truly gives you a month free. He was VERY helpful in catering to my special needs as best he could within the rules he is bound by. So I've waited a while to write this review in case Seattle Vault Storage was just beng good until more full and established. I've been there 6 months and for the first time in my 20 years in Seattle I have storage that requires not battles or attention so I can get on with my business and life. And in fact, they have steadily improved in the 6 months I've been there. They hired two new employees who are both awesome. They are always attentive and working... unlike ohter facilities where they cant be bothered to get up from a nap to help you with a lockout (Belltown Storage). They are professional, friendly and get things done. I'm the one always bugging them for something so I would know. Keep up the good work! read more

With an extremely accessible location, reasonable rates, friendly staff, and plentiful vacancy, Seattle Vault was a no-brainer for my needs, and they did not disappoint! Very clean units, plenty of sizes/rates available, and a sense of security and non-sketchiness. read more

Their unit prices are the same as their downtown competitors all of whom I have rented from: Vine st storage, urban storage, public storage Alaska Way. If you just need to drop of some items and come pick them up after some time, then they are all equivalent. None of them is open 24 hours. The latest was 11pm but I noticed that the later the hours of operation, the more crime: theft, vagrancy, trespassing, Drug use and sales....etc But if you are a moderate to heavy user...moving items in and out several times per week or every day then the Vault Self Storage is in a class ahead of the rest because of their staff and the excellent service they provide. With regular use there are special circumstances and random problems. And a fast solution can save me a lot of hassle, time or lost money. Among the three current staff at the vault they have all gone out of their way to address and resolve my issues, often above and beyond what their job requires. They've been fair and honest throughout. The Vault's downtown competition tend to do as little as possible to get by. They act imposed upon when you need them to finish texting their buddies and do their job. Pretty decent storage facility. They are heated, and very secure units, also one of the emplyees I usually deal with, is very nice. Better price then any other units in the area. read more

We spoke to the manager and the owner and we fought the charges on our credit card. You were no help what so ever and have a great scheme going on. Seattle Vault has an extremely convenient location in downtown Seattle. It is SUPER clean and they offer great rental deals all the time! They have very friendly staff who are always willing to help out with whatever you need. If you need storage space, this is the place to go. (They also have moving trucks to rent as well.) read more
