Bad experience with Cubesmart-Shirlington. Facillity is clean, albeit expensive, but they promise…read more"free" move-in truck as an inducement to rent there. Free use of the truck is likely not a genuine offer. I went there on three different occasions in the last couple of weeks, as a new customer seeking to use their van for 90 minutes to move two large items, and each time visited on a weekday when I knew the trucks were unlikely to be in use. Each and every time the front desk put me off for a different reason--i.e., you have your driver license but you don't have the $100 "cash deposit" that's required, or you don't have the "account number" that was issued via email (despite my having government issued ID plus the key to the unit and their having computers at the desk), or it's "too late in the day" at 3 pm to use a van for 90 minutes. I went there again today, very hopeful that I had met every hurdle, and this time they told me there was a charge of $39.95 to use the van for the brief period I needed, plus gas (and whatever incidentals they may impose on top of that). The reason given this time was that 4 days had elapsed beyond my initial 30-day move-in period. I pointed out that I had visited on three different occasions in my initial move-in period, and noted that the deadline and all of these other hurdles to use of the van should have been disclosed upfront, as the deadline hadn't been disclosed earlier and seemed like a trap for the unwary. The man at the Shirlington desk blamed his colleague for being "new" and not knowing to tell me all the van requirements up front. He rarely looked me in the eye from his seated position at the desk, and, knowing that he almost certainly was the one who had trained his "new" colleague, I advised him that I'd rent a van from U-haul instead. He protested that Cubesmart offered a better deal on truck rentals. Floored by this response (after viewing the enormous ads posted everywhere around the facdility that promise use of a free truck), I told him that I'd be moving all of my items out of the Shirlington unit at the end of the month. Unfazed, he advised me that I'd better have moved everything out by my announced move-out date. Shirlington customer service reps need much better training, or CubeSmart needs to change its corporate policies.

I am clearing out my unit TODAY and will never do business here again. I actually referred my sister and a family friend here when I first became a customer and I will be making sure they both clear out their units as well. When I entered into the contract both my husband at the time and I were both present and were told the unit was in our names. Fast forward 2 years and I'm divorced my ex husband moves out of state and they refuse to give me access to a unit that I have made payments on for the past 2 years because my ex was the only one listed on the account! I came into the office clearly stated that they can see I'm the one making payments with my card, my account, I even offered up divorce papers and still nothing. I had to continue paying rent on the unit for 2 more months until my ex could come in person to handle the situation. Then he gives me the keys and I move most of my belongings out at the beginning of the month. I head to the storefront today to clear out the remaining items and can't locate my keys. So here I am, the same person they have seen come in 3 times now about this same unit. Who had keys and access no less than 2-3 weeks ago and I ask if they can cut the lock because I can't locate the keys and this is the last day I will be using the unit. Do you think they accommodated? No they state once again I can't have access. Not even a call or email from the "account" holder would suffice. Now if he can't get here and I can't get my items out by 6 pm guess who gets billed for another month of rent? Exactly. Did I mention their horrible late fees?? A few months ago I called and asked for the balance on the account- I made a payment and then found out the woman I spoke to who told me that I'd be paid through the end of the month was wrong so for a full month I didn't pay the $80 rent because I thought I was current and was charged over $300 in late fees! This has been worst experience I've ever had with any company in my entire life. I will not pay this place another cent after today and I will post this review to every platform they have to hopefully prevent anyone else from being duped by these fools. I found this to be true at move-in and move-out * I did not have any mice problems in my unit * They had moving trolleys inside of the warehouse, making my move in and out very easy * I was able to rent a truck without too much hassle for moving in to the unit and moving out * Because their systems were down when I moved in, it took a very long time to do things manually. However, ownership apologized and as I was buying a lock & key for the unit, they covered the cost on the house. Thank you! * I did have a rate hike, but it was only about $10/month.
