If I could give this facility zero stars, I would. We have been renting a unit here for the past six years and have finally reached the point where we can no longer tolerate the ongoing issues. First, our monthly rate increased from $99 to $300 without any prior notice. Over the years, the facility has continued to decline rather than improve. The security doors have been broken for years, elevators are frequently out of service, and there are rarely any dollies available to move items. Additionally, there appears to be a homeless individual living in one of the units, which raises serious safety and management concerns. The office is closed more often than it is open, and the staff that are present are typically unable to provide answers and have been consistently rude. It is also nearly impossible to reach a real person by phone, and emails go unanswered. After six years as a customer, this level of service and maintenance is extremely disappointing. read more

I initially thought this was a great storage facility when I rented my unit a little over a year ago, but my experience since then has been extremely disappointing. When I first rented the unit, my monthly rate was around $119. Over the course of just one year, I received rent increase notices every few months, and my rate has now climbed to $293 per month--more than double in a very short period of time. This level of increase feels excessive and unreasonable, with no clear justification. It strongly resembles price gouging. What makes this even more frustrating is that I am currently being charged more than the rates advertised online for similar units at this same location, which raises serious concerns about fair and transparent pricing. Despite these repeated increases, the condition of the facility has not improved. Multiple access doors have frequently been broken, and the elevator has been out of service for months. Basic maintenance issues remain unresolved, even as rent continues to rise. I have attempted to contact management using the email address referenced in the owners' responses to reviews, but that email does not appear to exist. I have also reached out to other listed contacts and have received no response. Judging by the number of similar reviews describing the same issues, this appears to be a common business practice. I rented a 5x5 unit and was told it would be $9 per month. Was told it would go up after 6 months. Fine. All of a sudden there is an $18 insurance amount on my bill which I didn't ask to have. It's an upper small inconvenient located locker. Just leave my monthly charge at &18/month. I'll just keep the boxes in my home as I'm closing out the account!! read more

This company does false advertising. They advertise the first month is free but when you get there to rent the unit you are told only certain places offer that and theirs is not one of them. Please see the attached image. We complained about this 3 weeks ago and that Free First Month banner is still on the website with no indication that its only certain places that honor that. To me, this is a draw to get you in as almost all the other company's offer first month free. This storage building is clean, easy to access and most importantly has amazing employees. Last month I called and spoke to Rashida because my automatic payment didn't go through. She was incredibly friendly, gave me clear details on what I needed to do and then followed up emailing me all the necessary paperwork so I didn't have to come in. A month later, I forgot to fill out the paperwork and I got an email notification of late payment. My bad! I called and spoke with Cari first thing in the morning and again, amazing customer service. She was super friendly, easy going, and very helpful. She even followed up later that afternoon with a call to confirm me sending in all the necessary updates. During a pandemic every little thing takes extra energy to deal with and it was so refreshing to have multiple experiences where the staff was easy to reach, easy to talk to, explained things clearly and followed up with me AND were sooooo friendly! Rented a 5x5 locker to store some artwork and suitcases. Upon visiting I found out that these lockers are located above another storage unit and can only be accessed by using a rickety push ladder. There was only one ladder and shook while I was climbing it. I did not have confidence that the ladder could hold me and my heavy suitcases without toppling over. The inside of the 5x5 locker was dusty and dirty. I had to cancel my rental the same day. read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! As an existing customer at the Self Storage Plus in Lorton, I made a reservation online for one of the outdoor drive up storage units that FINALLY became available. I was taken aback when I found out that Calvin, the manager, leased the unit that I reserved to someone else when he knew that I had made a reservation. I had already rented a truck and hired movers to help me move my belongings. Therefore, I had to cancel my truck rental and the movers that I hired because there weren't any more drive up units. They rarely become available, and I need to have easy access because I walk with a cane. Not honoring a reservation is poor business practice! Calvin didn't help to resolve the situation, inconvenienced me, and wouldn't provide me with the telephone number for the Self Storage Plus corporate office so that I could speak to someone in upper management. My advice is to rent a storage unit from another company! read more

Without question, I highly recommend Lorton's Self Storage Plus facility! I interacted on a regular basis with Rashida, and she was always pleasant to talk with, responsive, and super helpful.
