I would recommend avoiding Unit 4725--or any units nearby. I rented a 10x30 storage unit and, less than a month in, discovered that the roof was leaking. Unfortunately, this caused water damage to several of my boxes, and I had to spend hundreds of dollars on labor to move my belongings to a different unit. To their credit, management did refund my month of rent and offered me another unit within the facility. However, the experience was frustrating overall. Reporting the issue and getting it resolved was difficult, as it's hard to reach someone directly. The front desk manager is kind and professional, but the office is often unattended, so communication typically requires leaving a voicemail and waiting until the next day for a response. Because of the leak and the challenges with timely communication, I'm giving this rating. read more

The Public Storage manager, Tommy, at the Burke Centre Parkway location in Burke, Virgina went out of his way to make the process of renting a storage unit easy. I see that he truly cares about his customers and for them to have a good experience. He even fixed my broken lock. August 5, 2023 (six months later) - I am being charged $30 extra a month for the same spot. Called the manager and he explained that the Corporate office automatically does that after six months. Rip off... going to build a shed for the same price of a one-year rental and move out. read more

Leaking rooves along with trash and nails throughout the parking lot makes this the worst storage unit I have used. All of the 5 star reviews are fake and done by the employee's. The gate is also regularly off line and customers are unable to get through the gate. The manager is usually late to arrive so people are stuck outside the gate until he decides to show up. read more

Great facility, and front end management is great. District management is a pain though. I asked for a 10% discount from $104 to $95, and as a long term tenant I figured they would have no issue, and the front end manager said that it would not be a problem - just have to wait for district to approve. I got the phone call saying it's a no go. So i went elsewhere, and now I pay $56 a month; locked in for a whole year. Military discounts are not a thing at Public storage, but Cubesmart gave me a nice 10% on top of the promotion pricing. I got my first rate hike of $18 after 4months at Public storage. Big companies, not caring about customer service. Go figure. Will never go back. read more

As their "bait & switch" 6-month price increases (but never a price decrease) due to "market conditions" continues to frustrate, the last straw was the mold found on my furniture this week. Enough is enough. I am moving out of my storage unit this weekend. I wonder if I will receive a credit as I am moving mid-month out of concern for the damage this facility has done to my contents.? I have little choice. I have used (4) Public Storage facilities in the past with nothing but good experiences. The ONLY good thing about this entire 9-month experience at this specific Public Storage in Burke, VA was the consistent performance and support of Mohammed, who is part of the office staff. We rented a unit since March 2018, first day we moved in, we noticed and reported not only once, but several times a broken light switch located in the aisle, that switch turns on the light bulb located in the interior of the unit. We have reported and requested SEVERAL times to the people at the front office to fix that switch, due our schedule we need to use that unit to store things at evening time, it is darking early on the east cost, and the light is necessary to avoid any accident inside the unit. At the end of the day, they dont care about that simple task , they blamed the maintenance company, I am writing it after 8 months, and a simple light switch could not be replaced so far. Ah, look elsewhere. I followed their instructions on how to vacate a unit, and charged a late fee. Locked out of my unit till I paid the fee. I was never notified there was a pending payment, and that my gate access was revoked. I tried getting the late fee back, and was given the run around. If I could I would give this establishment zero stars. Our family recently made a cross country move and while we were house searching we had our belongings stored in an interior, climate controlled unit at this facility. Fast forward 3 months, we met our moving company to move out our belongings only to find that water had seeped in through the cement walls and now we had mold growing on much of our furniture, mattresses, tv boxes and moving boxes. This is not a little water, the water had pretty much dissolved the boxes and our once white mattress was now covered in black and green mold. Funny thing is that the day we moved our stuff into the unit, we saw a mattress abandoned in the hallway that was in that condition -- black and moldy all around. We wondered how something like that could ever happen, perhaps it was a wet mattress to begin with that grew mold in humid conditions? We were even bamboozled at the front office to purchase a damp check container that would apparently "absorb" all the humidity in the unit. What a joke that turned out to be. Don't bother paying for the premium insurance, which we have. Only covers up to $5000. I mean, why would anyone pay $200/month to storage anything important or expensive right? And customer service? The woman working at the front desk didn't even bother to walk down to the unit to check out the condition when we discovered the damage. She handed over a pamphlet with a phone number circled and told us to go talk to them about insurance claims. Apparently whole unit water damage and mold growth is nothing to get excited about. Our movers said never have they ever seen anything like that before. They even complained about how their truck smelled of mold after loading our stuff. Again, our unit #3451 was interior (no exterior walls, nor near any doors, completely surrounded by other units) and climate controlled. I have uploaded some pictures of our damages for your viewing pleasure. You can decide for yourself if this is normal wear and tear after 3 months of storage and if you want to risk leaving your valuables under this establishment's watch. read more

I rented a unit from here a few months ago, and when renting a storage unit; you kinda of expect a well light, secure facility; in the last few weeks I noticed the gate was broken and people coming and going with no staff on site; today I received a 20% rate increase which I expected an annual increase, not a quarterly increase. I tried calling and good luck on reaching a customer service rep I spent 45 minutes and multiple calls, only to get a hold of someone who told me basically he could not do anything, so I asked to speak to his manager and I was redirected to another answering machine to the executive office, where I left a detailed voicemail this morning and it's close of business and no return call yet . Ironically the only person I could get on the phone; he asked me if I reported the gate being broken, so much for security, they have cameras all around the place and obliviously there not monitored them or they would know the gate was broken, judging by the condition of the gate it's maintenance has been deferred. There is trash around the property and old furniture, couches exposed to the elements. The newest updated review is The gate has been broken for over a week left wide open and also the fence has been broken due to a tree hitting the fence, management doesn't care there is no security for their customers possessions. Still the gate is broken over two weeks, the cameras just got repaired the day after the office was robbed, oh the fence is still broken. I did call the district manger a few times to no avail, I did speak to a area manager named Andrea who basically lied and told me the gate is being manually locked every night, the gate cannot closed. So if you want a secure storage place this location isn't it, and management isn't responsive, you would think a security guard would be posted after hours, not here. read more

All employees are knowledgeable and professional and eager to help. However, the unit itself had problems. I rented a 10 x 15' non-climate controlled unit. The roof part of the enclosure was not secure, and squirrels and birds got inside. My furniture was covered in nut shell droppings, feathers, and other detritus, including bird droppings. I could also see items in other units at open spots at the roof line from my unit. For the $300 a month I was paying for this unit, I was completely unsatisfied with the care they provided for my items. read more

This place is great if you want all your belongings infested with bugs and spiders. I had to vacuum so many spiders out of my couches just to move them to my new home. Also, the access hours are not very convenient for someone who works long hours and needs to access their unit after 9pm. The actual cost of the unit is overpriced and the price of the unit went up within 4 months of having the unit. read more

This particular storage location is Very will hidden in terms of physical security and visibility. However the rent goes up anywhere from 20-30 dollars a year for no particular reason and justification is not provided even when asked. Their "conditioned" units are just that "conditioned." They operate one to two of four HVAC units for the whole building and keep the thermostats at the lowest and highest set points still leading to expanding and contracting of wood furniture in extremes with the VA weather. When confronted the front office basically says they can't doing anything and to call corporate. I had a great experience with corporate upon move out but I asked for a refund receipt for the prorated amount of the month and was told the system won't let them provide that. How does a company not have the ability to provide you with a receipt for the return of your prorated money that's requested and required to be returned per the contract. Overall if I didn't have to have the storage unit I wouldn't have and I sure will not return to this place if I don't have to. I was paying more than any other place in town after my third year there and was lucky to be able to move the stuff out and into a new home finally. read more

This summer I have had the pleasure of storing my belongings with a locker from public storage. First and foremost, hope that you are served by Willie. I've never used a storage service before and he was happy to walk me through the process, give me hints and tricks that he's learned through his time here (like mattress bags to protect from odors or moisture!), and he has the patience of a saint when dealing with those pesky difficult customers (I have seen this happen twice in the office). He even remembers your name. Much appreciated, Willie. You're a great asset to Public Storage. I do have one suggestion, measure the door of your storage locker before signing the contract or get actual dimensions in the quote. The interior doors are smaller than a standard door and I had a VERY difficult time fitting my leather couch in there, and that's the only reason I cannot give five stars. All in all, with this great service, I wouldn't pick another location to store my belongings. read more

The customer service at this place is honestly just horrible. BEWARE. From move-in I should have known that it was going to be an issue because the person doing the paperwork for my move in didn't want to do his job. When I was supposed to move in, we arrived at a little over 4:00 pm to complete move in (it's recommended that you come before closing and they close at 6:00 pm). When I got there, the office said closed so we stayed and waited a little to see if someone would come because I had all my stuff packed in the vehicle and NEEDED to move that day for relocation purposes. Anyway, we waited until about 5:40 when someone finally came. Then we went inside to get set up to move in and the person working initially turned me away saying that because they were about to close and I didn't call to say when EXACTLY I was coming I couldn't move in and to come back the next day (what type of nonsense, they're open from 9-6 but only have people there if someone is coming, meaning they are really only open if there is a customer which screams "I hate my job" and a lack of dedication to being taken seriously as a business to be quite honest) It wasn't until my parents went inside and got a little aggressive (but were still respectful) about the situation with waiting and needing to move that day that the employee, WITH GREAT RELUCTANCE, agreed to help and the WHOLE TIME he was helping us he verbally & outrightly complained about having to do the paperwork and that "now he'd be there late doing paperwork." Needless to say, I'd already filled everything out online before coming so it took all of 5-6 minutes for him to get me registered, after realizing this his response was a mere "oh, I guess you did everything online already." At any rate, that was about a month ago (I moved in at the end of July). So fast forward to a few days after moving in and I get hit with a bill but it wasn't a ridiculous amount so I figured that there was just an issue with the amount I paid moving in and even though that wouldn't be my fault, I didn't think anything of it because it was showing my next bill to be August 26th. Well, I just got a new job and called regarding the bill a few days ago (which was supposed to jump to $77 on September 1st) and that I'd be able to pay the full balance on the 11th of September once I received my first payment. When I called, the employee explained that if I paid on the 11th my bill would be about $200 but if I paid $40 by the 1st of September then I could avoid paying $200 and it would be the remaining balance of the $77 ($77-$40=$37) for me to pay on the 11th. Well here it is today, September 1st and I went to pay my bill online, my account is showing $177! I called the property to get the situation resolved and was told that there is absolutely nothing that can be done to resolve the issue and the most frustrating part in it is that the person I spoke with is allegedly the manager. Not only that but they had no remorse for the situation and the miscommunication of their employee. The only thing that kept being repeated is "if you would have paid it YESTERDAY then you wouldn't have the $65 fee, I don't know why he would tell you the 1st." It was upsetting to hear that and I explained my situation and that ALL of my belongings are in their facility and the "manager" clearly did not care to offer any genuine solution or effort in reaching a resolve. Her own resolve was that I find a way to pay the additional $100 in fees. Imagine that, my things have been in storage less than 2 months and barely over 1 month but the poor customer service I received is enough to frustrate me from a lifetime. I will NEVER use Public Storage services or facilities ever again. There's clearly some lacking in the care of customer satisfaction and the integrity of the way customers are treated because they act like they don't want nor care for customers and the concerns of customers at all, it's disgusting. Needless to say, luckily for me I'm moving again soon so I'm going to pay the $200 on the 11th but it'll be the only and last $200 they'll ever get from me and I will be moving out of their facility a lot sooner rather than later. read more

Do some online research before doing business with this company. The details of my predicament are not of importance if you are someone who is able to always be one hundred percent on time with your payments - but the company's attitudes and policies are. The company is very rigidly controlled from the corporate office and is totally inflexible. The local managers, even several levels up, are either all complete jerks, or, more likely, utterly powerless in the corporation to do anything that might be remotely called managing. Further more, the corporate attitude is stick-it-to-'em, there's always another sucker to move in when they go. Search around the web for their propensity to raise rents again and again in short order - to amounts far above their advertised prices. You cannot assume that this month's bill will be the same as last month's. The company was also involved in a class action suit regarding the insurance policies that they unfairly forced on customers. Bang v. United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company, et al., Alameda County Superior Court Case No. RG 06273805 For those who may be in dire financial straights because of a long term illness (or whatever), and who are trying their best to avoid the indignity of losing their last few personal items, I'll give you some particulars. You can judge for yourself whether the situation is reasonable. I'm late on my bill - I just don't have the money. The items are set to go to auction. Ok fine - I understand. But here's the deal. My rent for last month was $216. I asked a family member for help and he attempted to contact them on the 5th of the next month (35 days late) . They wouldn't even talk to him or accept his money - citing privacy. A few days later, I was able to get the current balance. Here's the breakdown: Last Month - $216 (ok, but the same unit was on their web site for $190) Late Fee - $43 (again, I expect this) Current month - $238 (huh?) (By the way, move out on the 8th - you still pay a whole month) Late Fee - $55 (why not $43 ?) Another Extra Late fee - $47 (where in the h*** did this come from) Total - $600 This is all less than 40 days past due. I explained my situation, that I have a relative who can pay $400-$450 and take the stuff away immediately. I explained that the items are of personal value, and worth very little money, and that I would even go through the contents with them so they could see for themselves - I had tried quite unsuccessfully to sell off the stuff that didn't matter to me. Instead of working with me, taking the $400, and getting to immediately rent out the unit, they are going to wait around the required legal time, then go to the trouble and expense of an auction where they might get $100 if they are lucky. I was quite polite in all my initial conversations - but I will admit to hurling a few f-bombs on my way out the door. And one final point - they told me again and again that there was nothing they could do because it was Virginia state law. That is BS - VA law does allow what they are doing, but certainly does not require it. Ask yourself if this is the attitude and judgment of a company you want to do business with. read more

Plenty of available units, reasonably priced. Check in process was quick and easy. Gate has been left open for at least a week now allowing any vehicle to come in or out. That concerns me a bit and it needs to be fixed in a more timely manner. read more
