I have rented from here for over ten years and now the space I am renting is is going up to $400 a month while on the website it is a new move in for $260! The longer you stay the more they charge screwing their longtime customers. I tried to get a smaller space so they transferred me to a new room, but our Piano did not fit . So, we put it back in our old space, but they charged me for the new one anyway, constantly telling me I owed them $200 ?! How when the original space I paid rent on was $335? Today I went and looked a t a different space the Property manager picked out for me, it was too small so we looked around and found one that will fit, but couldn't get it because they still say I owe them money! This place is a trap! I know I have been renting from here for over TEN YEARS and this is how rhey treat me rip me off and give the run around! AVOID THIS PLACE!! read more

This is my second Yelp review. I tend to understand small businesses struggle and never post anything negative ever. But the experience with Public Storage was absolutely horrendous. I had to leave Austin for 8 weeks due to family reasons and had put all my belongings into a "safe, reliable" unit. Well so I thought. Not only their security system is a joke, I visited my unit many times before the trip and witnessed some suspect activity, especially after 8-9pm at night. I wasn't too confident in their ability to keep my things safe but I told myself, "I'm paying almost 100/mo, it's Public Storage, things will be fine." It wasn't. I came back and after unlocking the door, saw that someone had broken into the unit and shopped around. I lost about 30%. The craziest part in this story is that I wasn't offered to review the security cameras and their team instantly knew what happened. See, my lock wasn't even touched. I was told the metal frame around the door was the issue. That someone had removed bolts and was able to enter the unit without even touching the lock, just by making the structure loose. I couldn't believe it. I might as well just put everything out in the street. A few days later, as I drove by I saw some of my belongings close to i35 where PS is located. I've started to understand some homeless people had taken things they could either sell or use for themselves. I would highly recommend anyone reading this to avoid this facility. Anyone can enter the premises with anyone's code. It's not reliable and don't think for one second your stuff will be safe. read more

I will open positively, by saying the staff at the desk were always friendly. There it ends. We have used several different storage facilities over the years, around the country. This one is less of a storage unit and more like a dark, unlit cave. We booked the unit without realizing there were no lights inside at all. The corridor was dimly lit so it was impossible to see anything we stored inside the unit. As a solution - as we only needed to access once or twice a month for a few minutes at a time - I purchased a cheap plug in LED strip light, plugged it into the outlet outside the unit and there was light! But not for long... On our next visit I plugged the light in, and nothing. They disconnected the power to the outlet! After a string of emails with the manager it basically transpired that I was not allowed to use their outlet for my light, regardless of how infrequently it was needed, and if I wanted to see inside my unit I should buy a torch! Absolutely ridiculous, quite rude and totally unacceptable. Add to this farce the fact that they only have 4 carts available, which are often chained up and unusable; the ladies WC was out of order for months; the water fountain was out of order for months and then simply removed. We now have a unit at Extra Space Storage just a little way up I-35 and will never use Public Storage again. read more

If I could leave zero stars for this facility i really would, but unfortunately it wont let me tell everyone how TERRIBLE this facility is unless i give at least star. I have been using this storage unit since August of 2022, and i have never had a worse experience public storage in my entire life. I do not have the time to come into this facility to pay for my rent every month because I work and go to school full time, so they say that paying online or over the phone is SOOOO CONVENIENT let me tell you, it is not. I have had plenty of money in my bank account to be able to pay for this storage and every single time, my card does not work, and i have tried every single card i have. including cashapp and venmo cards that are not connected to my bank, i have called my bank as well and there is no issues with my bank. AND THIS HAS HAPPENED EVERY SINGLE MONTH. and every single month i get charged a late fee because i am not able to come in to the facility, NO ONE IS EVER THERE. they say there are people there, but i am sure they are, but are taking breaks and not working when they should be in the office. I have even SCHEDULED a time to come in and they still were there to let me for my unit. ON TOP OF THAT, the people at this facility dont do jack shit for you. they are extremely rude and literally dont care about resolving my issues, all i get is a "oH you can just come in and pay" YOU GUYS ARE NEVER THERE FOR ME TO PAY MY BILL. YET STILL TAKE MY LATE FEE BECAUSE NOTHING ON THIS GOD FORSAKEN FACILITY WORKS. I have this problem every single month and i get the same response, no help, and they lock my things up and then i have to pay $20 for a new lock because these people break my lock lock it themselves. Brianna and Keith are the only two people i have spoken with. they know who i am because i have had such a terrible time with this facility, Keith is inconsiderate of my time and was the man that told me a specific time for me to come in and was never there. Brianna I spoke with today, was the most condescending, rude woman i have ever spoken with for any type of customer service. I have asked both of them to reset my account to see if that would work, every time, they tell me i just need to come to the facility. YOU GUYS ARE NOT THERE. HIGH volume of communication -- that's often conflicting / incorrect. I called on a Saturday morning to reserve a storage unit, and told them I would be by around 3PM to finish setting it up. I received 3 phone calls from 3 separate people *borderline HARASSING ME* about coming in that day to get started. During one of these 4 calls (the initial and the 3 follow-ups) I asked some very specific questions -- what is my total cost, are there any incremental, or additional fees I'll have to pay, etc., or anything I needed to bring. I was assured "no" and to just come in and bring an ID. I get there, and we're told about the $20.00 lock (I would have bought my own) and that I had to carry insurance -- and all of their forms are designed to make it seem like you have to have *their* insurance. YOU DO NOT. If you have homeowners insurance, you likely are already covered for this - and you may be covered via your credit cards, car insurance etc. There are lots of third parties that will give you a much better rate. This insurance and the requirement to carry it was NOT MENTIONED at anytime during the 4 calls I had between 10am and 3pm. When I got there, they were having some sort of computer issue, and gave us a temporary access code. They told us it would be temporary, and that we could call the phone number and enter our information and get the new one that would be for the next day. We get there the next day, have the new access number, and of course, it isn't working. Calling the phone number gets you nowhere [you can't talk to a human, unless you want to get a new unit], and you just have to wait for a desk person to return to help you. So. We stood in the parking lot, for 30 minutes, while we waited for someone to return to the desk. I've been in the storage unit for a month, and I've received SO MANY CALLS. How's it going? How's it going? Do you want to autopay? I get a call from them *AT LEAST* weekly -- and while annoying, the call yesterday took the cake. We moved in on 8/21, and again, very clearly asked about when our next payment would be due, the amount etc. We were told that our first month's rent was through the 20th - that pro-rated rent was due on the 21st - and full month rent would be due on the 1st. Yesterday someone called me and told me my rent was due on September 1st, and I had a late fee, and I needed to pay it immediately. A supervisor takes over - and says, no, my rent isn't late - but I need to pay the prorated rent + the 1st months rent - and it takes us 10 minutes to clarify that I haven't been charged a late fee. I go online - all that is due *NEXT WEEK* is the pro-rated rent. If you need someone to call you and you enjoy hassle -- rent from Public Storage - they'll call you at least once a week with different information than you were given the week befor read more

Be extremely careful. My 5th floor unit was broken into in and everything of value (both personal and monetary) was taken. I lost over $4000 in framed classic movie posters and other collectables. I later learned the thieves were able to remove the door of the unit completely so as not to have to break the lock. I won't comment on the security measure the building has, as I don't want to encourage others to try and steal, but inadequate doesn't begin to describe it. I was told the door issue was taken care of, but who knows. I was offered $45 through the insurance for my loss since I didn't have receipts for pieces I have owned 20 years. If you do keep anything of value here, be sure to take pictures and inventory. I wasn't offered even free rent for what the thieves did leave, so I have finally removed everything. read more

There was an immediate improvement in customer service when their new Manager David appeared at the 41st Street location a couple of days ago. There were a couple of bad apples there previously (not all). I went to the office to complete a second storage room contract and my expectations were low, but I was pleasantly surprised by David's attention to detail and his penchant for making things easier for the customer. He let me know of ALL my options and re-sent an email to me without my asking (or knowing that it would be helpful). He is just someone who seems to go out of his way for the customer's satisfaction. read more

This is a review for Public Storage, not this particular location. There are a few things to know about this company before you rent. Pros: They appear to be very well run company. The staff on location are very professional, well trained, and the facilities are well maintained. Cons: As many have mentioned, if you are going to rent for more than a couple months, just know that the price increases are outrageous - 26% in my case after the first six months. That's 52% annualized! What's most distasteful is they try to couch it as "in order to maintain the high quality of service we need to ....." Inflation is 3%, no one needs a 52% annualized increase. Let's just call it what it is. What they should say is "Our strategy is to entice you to rent from us and then count on the fact that you don't want to move your stuff again in order to extract as much pricing as possible." Why else would they not offer long-term rental rates? So, why one star when they do indeed run a very tight ship? Because I absolutely despise dishonesty, fake sincerity regarding my being a "valued" customer (we can help you get a smaller, cheaper, unit), and a patronizing attitude as though I am not intelligent enough to understand what they are doing. Seriously, you should read their price increase letter. It's insulting. As a CEO of a company the size of Public Storage, I get the business model from a business perspective. But, their lack of values earns them one star. read more

The good- excellent, convenient location. Parking area is great. No gate, no BS. Has a clean bathroom during business hours. Has a drinking fountain. You might find some gems thrown out by other people. Staff is cool. You can pay online or in person. I havent heard of any significant problems with break ins or theft. The bad- only available to enter your unit from 6 am to 9 pm. A few cockroaches as well. Get a spare key. If you lose your key you will have go through a LOT of BS to get it taken care of, unless you bust it with bolt cutters or an angle grinder(Which is very, very, very much against Public Storage policy). Luckily I did not have to resort to that when I lost my keys once. If you wanna pay over the phone, theylll charge you 20 extra dollars. So pay online or in person. read more

I had a few questions about insurance and what not and felt so comfortable with everything after she walked me through the whole process. I had a really awesome experience at Public Storage! Everything about the experience was so much less stressful than I anticipated. I would 100% recommend storing your stuff here. I loved the convenience of the location, the dollies available to help with the moving process, and the access hours (6 AM - 9 PM) were super convenient for me. Philessia was sooooo helpful. I compared a number of storage facilities in this area and this one was the best based on locating, price, and facility. Just moved out after 4 years. Yes, the rent has gone up over that time, but it matched the rent on their website so I feel like I was paying 'market' not some 'gotcha' price. Rents on houses and apartments in the area have gone up more. You could pay half of what they charge elsewhere, but you won't get A/C, a better location, or the security this place offers. Never had a problem with the access system, elevators, or rodents. I moved 2 days after the end of the month and paid a pro-rated $11 for the extra days. From the other reviews there is a point after which you have to pay for the entire month. I called a few days before the end of the month and they turned off auto-pay. read more

Just moved out of this PS location after 18 months. High rates that seem to increase every 3-6 months. No breaks for long term storage. My 3rd floor unit had a huge mouse issue. YUCK! Many of my boxes needed to be discarded (contents and all). I called to make management aware. I don't recommend this location. Wherever you store in Austin buy plastic totes with lids. I've had good luck with uncle bobs and the PS just south of Braker on 35. Lots of really nice new units going up at much cheaper prices available in the Austin market. read more

If you choose to store your belongings here, be prepared for at least a 20% increase yearly, or possibly more often. After that delightful surprise, be prepared for the office to continually dun you for a $20 late fee, even though your bank issues a statement saying it was in their offices before the required date. You will spend lots of time and legwork proving that you are right, you may or may not get your late fee back, and in the meantime you will receive threatening notices that since they incorrectly perceive you as being a week late, they will lock your unit, steal all of your belongings (and I assume the reason you are storing them is that they are valuable), and sell them at auction where you can expect to receive at least $2 or maybe $3. Avoid this scam like the plague! read more

Great place, your stuff is very secure since there is a code on the doors and the elevator. Office staff are friendly and helpful, even gave me a respirator when I needed one to deal with the dust in my unit. When I moved out I'd forgotten to call and tell them I had emptied the unit before the first, but their staff was on top of it and sent me a move out statement, not a bill on the 1st of the month!!! Love these guys great people to store with. read more

Bad, Fraudulent Service. I rented with Public Storage at this location in 2015. When signing contract, was advised by the manager that I had to pay a compulsory additional fee for insurance. I later realized that, on the website, insurance was quoted as optional... upon more information, realized that the insurance company was an affiliated company... Unfortunately, my unit was burglarized, and whilst first thinking that the haphazard insurance might actually be a blessing in fraudulent clothes, after a process made lengthy by my own fault, insurance did not cover my loss. New to Austin, I had all my possessions at the unit at that time, and was left only with what was on my person. The manager, at the time of burglary, couldn't care less about the burglary, even acted surprised when the police asked him for the surveillance video, and had to be told in no uncertain terms to provide it. To brighten the mood, a person who I suppose, but am not certain of, was an assistant manager, tried to make ridicule the fact that I was storing "a bag full of laptops". Since I experienced predictable duress from being separated from almost all of my possessions, my opinion of the attitude of the manager and presumed assistant manager, plus the fraudulent insurance scheme, which is nothing more than a hidden fee, motivate this review. I have used Public Storage many different times in the past, so I'm pretty familiar with how they do things. This location stands out as being one of the very best. In addition to being easily accessible, it's very clean. What truly stands out is the service. Philessia really understands what it means to go above and beyond. She's the best! I needed a storage unit to keep a bunch of household goods while getting our house ready to sell, knowing I would eventually need to downsize to a smaller unit. Now that we are a week away from moving, all the smaller units are occupied (UT students finishing school, etc.) Rather than just telling me sorry and encouraging me to stay in my larger, more expensive unit, Philessia made a point of finding me a smaller unit that would work with the timing of my move and she proactively called me to let me know it was available. This level of service is impressive and I really appreciate the level of care and concern she demonstrated. Additionally, I had a great interaction with Scott, who followed up not once, but twice, to give me much needed information about maintenance work being performed on the facility the day of my move that might have derailed our plans. He understood the importance of the information and left me a very thorough voicemail explaining what was going on, then a second message as he learned more details. Like I said, the approach to customer service in this facility is top notch. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone that needs storage in central Austin. read more

Once they get you in for cheap, and you've spent a lot of time to get your stuff there, they have you by the neck, and will abuse their position. I have unfortunately rented from this facility for about two years. Facility is adequate - I mean, it's a storage facility. During the two years, our rent went from $220/month to $389/month - getting randomly jacked up every few months, way above what any new renter would pay. They figure that they have you because all of your crap is in storage, and what are you going to do, move it? As a nice capper to this much-too-long relationship, I had this conversation on the day of checkout: Me: "checking out of my storage unit today (April 15th)" Surly Attendant: "okay" Me: "Do I get some kind of pro-rated rent?" S.A.: "nope" Me: "why not, I mean, it's available now for you to rent." S.A. "too bad for you. That is just our policy." Me: "so even though I am paying through the end of April, you can go ahead and rent it today." S.A. (chuckle) "you got it" Me: "What if I leave the lock on until the end of the month?" S.A. "up to you, but you better have the lock off by the 1st or we will charge you another month's rent." For the rest of my natural life, I will never use Public Storage for anything. Been here for about a year and a half and was thinking about moving to a closer storage by my house but because the mangers are so nice and willing to help at any time is truly amazing. Although the people who work here are nice, the Public Storage business model is highly deceptive. They lure you in with the promise of cheap rent at first, but once your stuff is in there, they raise the rent steadily, until you are paying far more than what you originally agreed to.
