Absolutely will NOT recommend this for longer-term storage. I've been a customer for over 3 years, with auto-pay and no issues, and my rent went up from $78 to $300. When I tried to re-negotiate a lower rent, especially after my unit size was renting for the 1/3 (!) of my monthly rent, I was flatly denied that option. No customer loyalty or support. we want to move out because Pricilla is very hostile. we had an interaction with her a few months ago where we were in the wrong. we apologized and have corrected our misunderstanding, we don't do what we were doing anymore because we want to respect their rules. well Pricilla came out today making all kinds of accusation. we try to calmly explain the situation to her (it was someone else doing what we used to do) but she would not listen. WATER DAMAGE, BLACK MOLD AND SPIDERS. Since starting my stay with this location six months ago, it became increasingly worse with time. I run a staging business. I had to throw out two pieces of furniture due to water damage. I was billed for the month of November and moved out five days later because of water damage to my furnishings. Speaking with corporate, they said they'd prorate the month. Two weeks later and someone else told me they don't do that. Therefore I moved out, they moved someone else in and got twice the rent on that unit. So they told me to go ahead and move out so they could do that. When I got all the furniture out, I saw a ring of black mold under a coffee table. Also spider nests on some of my dressers. This place is a joke. Many other better options nearby. Don't waste your money here. Also, they raised the rent $45 the month I loved out. They raised rent every month after my first 3 months. Buyer beware. read more

I called to make a reservation last minute and had the pleasure of speaking with Lauren, who assisted me with the entire process of renting my unit. I was beyond pleased with her help getting all my things moved in so quickly, effortlessly, and efficiently. I ended up going with a larger unit, and am glad that I listened to and took Lauren's advice. All my items fit perfectly into the larger unit without it being packed to tight. It was nice that I could easily navigate my things inside the unit whenever I wanted to and could come and go as needed. She told me to download the app, where I could easily make payments, and also open the gate to go in and out just from the click of a button which was super convenient. I also had some questions due to the fact that I only needed the unit for a short period time, and she was incredibly helpful in answering all my questions. Well. Over all this place is Okay but not the best storage unit experience and I would never use them again! I was quoted one price then upon move in-- then, the second month was a totally different price and the guy that had sold me my unit and given me that rate was fired for "doing things like that". Then the owner wouldn't honor the price the other guy had quoted me and of course I didn't have any solid proof. So they raised my rate by like 30-50 bucks more. They spray painted the outside of the units and told us we could get plastic from the office to cover our stuff before they painted. But when I went in to get the plastic. THEY HAD NONE and the girl in the office told me they never got any plastic from the owner for the unit!! She mentioned the email was sent out to all residents but no plastic was ever provided. And all my items in the front of the unit literally got covered in white paint and power-washed dirt and items from the ground that surfaced up from when they power washed the front of the UNIT too!! It was really frustrating. All my items in the front of the unit are now stained with a white paint that I have yet to see if it will come off. When I vacate I will scrub it all down and see if it comes off. Not thinking it will but I am hopeful! I was only at this unit for a total 5 months. And that was 5 months too long! They just raised the prices of the unit again last week!! and so this is my 2nd price hike in the few months I have been here. Stephen was a really cool guy hand Adrianne is a really cool chick. The online setup was super easy. I started the process by calling a different location that was close by. That location hooked me up with a unit here that I was looking for. See the pics. Pretty much says it all. I stored some of my extra stuff that wouldn't fit in my apartment for 2 years. I seldom needed any of it and when I went yesterday, it was COVERED in rat feces along with urine stains. I spoke to management and they said unless you purchase the insurance from them, there is nothing they could or were willing to do in order to make this right. I didn't do the insurance because none of the items have any sort of monetary value but no one wants anything they stored to have rat crap all over it. I wasn't looking for much, some small token of apology. Perhaps a month's rent which isn't much. Nothing. I have moved my stuff out but beware. This place is a rodent nightmare. I needed to rent a storage unit for just over a month, and Public Storage had the best deal. I paid $1 for the first month, plus $30 for the next month. That part of the process went smoothly, initially. Unfortunately, they lock their gate at 9pm, no exceptions, so my SO and a friend were trapped _inside_ the facility at 9:04pm when dropping off the first load of stuff. The next morning, we all got up insanely early to drop more stuff off the instant they opened, and the gate was broken and not accepting the gate code. Or rather, it accepted the code, said access granted, and the gate stayed shut. Unfortunately you have to call the 800 number to speak to someone, and they're not at the local facility, so it's a little hard to get things resolved quickly. I paid $31 in June, and this month they tried to say I owed another $30 for July. After explaining that they told us $1 for June and $30 for July and that they'd already charged us $31, they backed off. They were also reasonable about letting the movers come in and get my stuff. It was all way dirtier than it had been when put in there, but as far as I know the place wasn't leaking, so I'm really not sure I can blame the dirt accumulation on them. Overall, they weren't the worst place ever, but I wouldn't say they're great, either. I guess you get what you pay for. read more

I needed to store some items for a couple months here and the Saturday of the 28th of august 2013 I guess some rain hit the Austin area. On Monday the 30th I was moving out.. Our storage unit was flooded from a roof leak in the back corner. Our brand new couch and loveseat were ruined. Because I didn't take the insurance I guess I assume the responsibility of their roof upkeep. We also found a dead rat inside our unit that had evidently drowned and began to smell up the unit. Public storage is staffed by employees that make very little money and they empower them to do nothing in cases of severe negligence where their own property isn't kept up to a standard to protect your items. I will never use them again and will be making a small claims suit in the near future. Personally I don't prefer leaving poor feedback but this experience caused my family large financial windfall and had to file an insurance claim. We ultimately willnpay form later in premiums. read more

Run !!!! This place is the worst !!! Rats !!! I had insurance up to $3000 and guess what they tell me ... it only covers $250 for vermin minus $100 deductible ... I had my kitchen tile !!! And it has urine and droppings .. that tile alone is worth $300 . My suitcases have urine each worth $150 . read more

The service and unit I was given at this Public Storage location was great! Adrianne was very helpful in terms of setting up my account and Louie & Chelsea helped me close my account a few weeks later. I went for the $1 unit promo, which did turn out to include a few extra fees (first time set-up and insurance), making it more around $35. Still better than the regular going rate of $135+. The discount was a nice option while I was between leases and trying to cut corners where possible. I did get an alarming call at one point where I was asked if I locked my unit, because it had been found open with items propped outside it. After I confirmed that I secured it, they double-checked and found it was a different unit than mine. Even then, I'm glad they showed an immediate interest in notifying me in case something had gone wrong. I would use their service again and recommend it to anyone looking for affordable, short-term storage! read more

This storage place is horrible!!! Within 2 months my storage was broken into (nothing they can do) and theyve cut my locks off Twice for being LATE!! Locks i have to continue to replace!!! Anytime i have a problem their response is "Sorry theres nothing we can do about it". If you have a choice DONT choose this storage.. Smh read more

new to the area and looking for temporary storage unit and found this ad online stating $1 for 1st month to celebrate the anniversary of this public storage location on 1st street in Austin, Tx. I believed the ad so reserved online. I was still charged $149. I paid for it thinking they would reimburse the difference however have not received a single penny that I overpaid for my first month. then since this is my first time, I show up a few minutes after 9pm and saw a man coming out of the office and going towards his bike. I asked him if he knows the hours in which we can go in and out of our personal storage unit. he responded with, "you should f***** know this already so no you can't f****** come here after 9pm and he got on his bike and drove off through the back. he was obviously a worker since he came out of the office and locked up. his response to my one simple question was so unprofessional and so rude! I'm a military spouse who pays for not only for a storage unit but for some customer service professional support from management and staff when I need it and not some ghetto response from a man who clearly does not belong working in an office to assist human beings. read more

The employee (Her name starts with an "A" - didn't bother looking) at 7200 S. 1st St., Austin TX, today (Aug 8, 2018) is absolutely no help! She has been rude, argumentative and seems to be bothered by my being there. I arrived to empty my unit and when I told her that the lock wouldn't open with the key I have been using for over a year, she said that there's no way PS would give a key like that in the 4 years she's been there and that they would not change the lock -- funny that this same key has been working fine since June 2017. We just moved to austin. We ended up getting a storage unit that we never used. Contacted the district manager and he refunded our money (which is against their policy since it was a binding contract). I could see if we used it but we didn't. They didn't have to. To me, that's great customer service. That's a business that cares. I will definitely use them again should I ever need the space again. Thank you PS. My experience with Public Storage has been horrible. I rented the storage unit in June for $1. Which actually cost $54.00 dollars. They turned off our access, because we did not pay the $54.00 which we were never notified about or billed for. In July they charged us the 121.00 on the 6th of the month they placed a lock on our unit without notifying us of the bill or the lock. I paid it as soon as I found out including a $50 late fee. Two days later we could still not get into the unit even after contacting the office 3 times. My boyfriend uses the unit for storage for work and he actually lost a $300 job, because he could not get into the storage unit. I would not recommend this storage facility to anyone. read more

I worked with Louie and Jose in getting a car I was selling stored for a month at this location, and I HAVE to express my appreciation for how amazing they were!!! I was on a huge time crunch and didn't have some of the necessary documents to leave the car there when I arrived (right before closing time). I was moving out of town the next day so I was super stressed about getting everything done and thought I was out of luck. Not only did these guys help me through the entire process past their closing time, they then STAYED even later for me while I left to retrieve the missing documents in order to get the car stored!!!! I literally don't know what I would have done without their help. I can't thank you guys enough for staying so late and being so understanding! Everyone in the office was friendly and informative and the facilities seem very well cared for and up-to-date. My only criticism (and obviously not a strong enough one to warrant losing a star) is that I felt pressured to spend more money than I really wanted too. Just moved in today. Louie assisted us. He was friendly and called around to see if he could get us a unit even though all the facilities are at high occupancy right now. He was successful. Yay! I don't know what the actual customer experience is like yet. I do know, however, that you are required to pay a monthly insurance premium. It's $11/mo. Also, you need a circular lock. They are $20 if you buy one from PS. If you want to buy your own for $10 at home depot or wherever, do it before you come to PS. They require you to have a lock upon signing paperwork. read more

I couldn't rate as 5-stars as no one at the location could offer a definitive answer as to whether our movers tractor trailer would be able to be accommodated in transporting to the unit. read more
