I ordered the chicken parm from Prima using ubereats. There was very little sauce on the chicken and was very dry. I had to add some good jarred sauce to make it edible. The pasta was sauced but there was only about 3 tablespoons of pasta. read more

I really enjoyed Prima! My husband and i came for brunch this past weekend and split the blueberry breakfast roll. It was pricey, yes--but deliciously decadent and worth it! We also split the scrambled egg carbonara (love me a soft scramble) that came with potatoes (crispy and perfect) and the French toast (a huge serving that we happily gobbled up). Service was friendly and quick. And the atmosphere was sophisticated. We were eyeing the cool back room lounge area too! We look forward to returning to try dinner as well! read more

So disappointed with our recent visit to Prima. I dined there after they initially opened and thought the food was excellent, the service good and the environment was excellent for business meetings. Fast forward to last night. I had customers in town and made reservations more than a month in advance. I asked specifically to be seated in the Rose Room where I had dined in the past. We arrived for our reservation to find a loud and festive bar scene, and shockingly we were then seated in the middle of it at a small table one step away from the front door. The music was so loud we could not converse, we couldn't even hear our wait staff when they attempted to share information on the menu. A man at the bar half straddling his date was also touching my colleague. I asked why we were put in this room vs the Rose Room as requested and was told they can not guarantee a location for a table. I would have NEVER knowingly booked a dinner for business at such a location. Sadly at 7pm in December we were unable to leave and go to dine elsewhere so we did stay. Our waitress was either brand new or just frazzled - she brought out an incorrect bottle of wine (probably because she was unable to hear the order) and then broke the cork into it while opening. Someone else came to try and rectify the wine confusion. We had to ask various people to take plates and glasses off the table so we had room to eat. There should not be tables for dinner located in the front bar room - I was embarrassed that I talked up this dinner, made colleagues haul over to Charlestown from the Copley area in terrible traffic, only to be in a situation that was more like a rave than a restaurant. It was a miserable experience and I won't be back. I'd urge others to reconsider their planned visits. The restaurant needs to decide if it wants to be a bar that serves food, or a restaurant that has a bar. Terrible. read more

dip into the sauce. If I'm spending $130 at your bar on a Tuesday night, don't break my balls to make a $1 on bread y'all. I will return tho. Very Nice setting , good service. Pricy. But sexy. Just feed me a bit more next time. read more

Really hoping for a nice spot in the area but was disappointed. The service was slow. The food was over salted. Both steaks were burnt on the outside. The noodles were half decent. Came him after hearing some good things and I'm glad I did! I sat at the bar and had two great bartenders. I ordered the ziti bolognese and garlic bread. The food was good, however I didn't get much "garlic" in the garlic bread. It was covered in olives and Parmesan with a crunchy outside and soft inside. I don't think I'd order it again though. Overall good food, good atmosphere. I wasn't blown away, but I'd go back. read more

Food was generally good but nothing that's going to make me choose it over many of the restaurants in the North End. For a place that's supposed to be an "Italian celebration of reimagined classics "I was disappointed that the Carbonara was made with cream. FAIL! Service was just OK. I expect that it's still in the honeymoon phase and so they're still working out some kinks. I'd plan to make a return trip in several months if I was inspired by the food. Cocktails are fantastic and the renovated interior is exceptional. Obviously, great location in Charlestown with the outside patio overlooking the park. Come for the location, ambiance and cocktails. Hold off on dinner unless you don't need to be impressed. I'd give 3.5 if I could but 4 is too generous. read more

Dined in with some colleagues on a work trip. Staff was very kind. The ambiance was spacious with lots of warm light. I had a sip of their famous tiramisu martini which was a hit amongst the females apart of our team. Service was terrible. We had a reservation at 4p and was told the table would be ready in 5 mins. We were seated 20 mins later. At least they had coat check. The main dishes took about 30-45 min to come out. Food was OK/good. There are GF options. We ordered a few dishes: Snap pea salad and the burrata/prosciutto apps were a hit Caesar salad was good - but the lettuce could've been more fresh/crispy. Eggplant parm is good - chicken parm is dry. Many dishes needed more salt. Ambience was gorgeous and christmas decor was pretty. They also had cute postcards that came with the check. Overall, not worth a visit, esp. because it's a tad pricey. read more

Such a euro vibe! Loved the decor and vibe of this new Italian gem. Great atmosphere and delicious bites. The menu has a fresh taste on Italian , I don't pasta and still had nice choices. They offer a completely gluten free menu on Mondays and our daughter can't have gluten, so we thought we would give it a try. My husband is always dubious of how gluten-free food tastes, especially pasta but WOW, WOW, WOW. Everything was just delicious, starting with the focaccia bread, then we ordered meatballs, chicken and eggplant parmigiana and bolognese (just in case we didn't like one of them), but no need to worry because everything was exceptional. Our server was attentive and friendly, plus the music was great, not too loud and not too soft. On top of that, our daughter left her purse and they called us immediately so we were able to come right back. Can't recommend this place enough. Will definitely be back!!! read more

One of the better dining experiences I have had at an Italian Restaurant in the Boston area. I suspect this new spot will become very popular as the word gets out - so get in while you can. Here is what my group ordered and shared. We started with some apps: Meatballs, mushroom carpaccio, carne cruda, and stracciatella. They were all hits. Hard to pick a favorite - but I'd say the mushroom carpaccio was the first among equals. Very nice presentation for each item, and each was the perfect size for two people to share. But was also enough for our group of three to each have a taste. Next we went all in on pastas to share: Bolognese, Tortellini en Brodo, and Spicy Picci. The tortellini and spicy picci were some of the best past dishes I have ever had. I will be back and will be ordering these again. Of note, you can get a half order of any pasta. Unfortunately, the Bolognese fell very flat. And it was for one simple reason - the meat was over cooked, crispy and dry. Resulted it a salty and generally i enjoyable dish. I eat a lot of bolognese and try it a most Italian places I go. This one needs work. Drinks were tasty and reasonably priced. I enjoyed the Kingston Negroni and the JungleBird. And I'd add that their two non-alcoholic mocktails are fantastic as well. I didn't partake - but the wine list was well curated. Ambiance has pros and cons. The pros - the design and decor is top notch. Recently renovated so it is super clean. They have a hidden room way in the back (I think called the rose bar or rose room). If you are a couple on a date try asking to be seated back there. Staff is also super friendly. Cons - they kept it very cold in there, it is incredibly noisy, and you are likely looking. At $15-$20 to park in a local lot depending on how long your dinner takes. But the biggest con was speed of service. Unfortunately, it was very slow. From the time to take orders, check back, even bring the check, we had to wait a while. Hopefully they can work on this. The dessert menu did not blow me away. A couple decent options - but nothing I "had to try." So we ended up skipping dessert. I will 100% be back. And while I listed a couple cons for the restaurant to work on, they are all nit picky but the reasons I went with 4 instead of 5 stars. A fairer score would be 4.5. read more

As I sit at the bar waiting for anyone to pay attention to me it makes me wonder what restaurant all these people were at from these reviews. Not amazing yet lol. Maybe they will offer something to eat. Andrew where are you? Dinner arrived...COLD. Sent back, waiting for it to be fixed. Still don't understand why anyone would rave about this place. Too full of itself. I will never come here again. Two words -"I'm sorry" would have gone a long way to fix it. But I never heard that. read more

We came here to celebrate a big milestone and left feeling disappointed. The food was, we all agreed, just okay. The service was efficient but no one was friendly--the waiter didn't introduce himself, smile or even say hello. He reached over guests and just didn't provide the kind of service we'd expect at a restaurant with this price point. The restaurant is pretty but it is very loud and difficult to have any kind of conversation. It's very dim so menus are hard to read. Overall, it was good but we won't be back for all of these reasons. read more

I recently hosted my engagement party in the Rose Room at Prima and would give 6 stars if I could! From the second we filled out an inquiry form, the team was beyond helpful and responsive. For starters, the rose room is absolutely beautiful and sat all of our 35 guests perfectly. There is a huge private bar as well as a good amount of booth seating where our guests were able to walk around and mingle but also sit down if they would like. The team was beyond accommodating and helped to keep the party schedule on time with passed apps and cake cutting at the perfect time. Our guests were raving about all of the different food and drinks and absolutely loved them all. We only had passed apps at our party but I have also come in for both brunch and dinner. The food here is insanely good every time. We also ordered a cake through Capo's bakery (same owner as Prima) and it was to die for! The cake was absolutely stunning and also was one of the best tasting cakes I have ever had. They handled all coordination of cake delivery and even included the cost of the cake into our minimum spend for the private party. To top it off, we found the pricing to be very fair and competitive with other restaurants in the Boston area. I would most definitely recommend Prima if you are looking to host a private party or even just looking for a place for dinner with amazing Italian food. Thank you again for having us!! read more

Absolutely fantastic night at Prima! The space itself is beautiful but the decor really makes it. It also looks like there's a smaller, quieter bar room toward the back of the restaurant that would be a great place to get a drink and an app. We had a very friendly and attentive server and had the pleasure of meeting Andrew, who was awesome. I started off with the blood orange margarita which was fruity and refreshing. We had the stracciatella with figs and the mushroom carpaccio to start. As some who loves stracciatella and never sees it on menus I was very excited and it exceeded expectations. The pepper and thyme cut through the sweetness so it was very balanced. And then I don't love mushrooms but tried a bite and kept going back for more. For dinner we all had the carbonara, fusilli, spicy picci, and the chicken scarpariello. Everything was amazing with the spicy picci being the surprise favorite. Just enough spice and I've never had anything the the creamy mint sauce. Though we were stuffed, we had a banana bread with caramel and icee cream for dessert and it was spectacular. Cannot wait to go back. Mike and all of the chefs are great and I was so surprised that they only opened at the start of the summer. 10/10 read more

This place had lot of buzz in instagram. So we decided to try it for our sons 15th birthday, he loves steak so we got the tomahawk steak. For $160 I would expect one the best steaks we ever had. It was the worst. The steak itself was cooked as asked - rare. However it was sitting on sloppy bed of mushrooms sautéed in a strange sauce that tasted like barbecue sauce. It was topped with a blanket of Parmesan cheese. And finished off with a rosemary chimichurri-like sauce. Every thing was over-salted. Odd combo of flavors that covered up the taste of the steak. Steak had a cumin-like after taste. Sides were awful as well. Crispy potatoes were overcooked like a drunken diner home fries. It was over spiced and salted. Asparagus with beschemel were worse than the potatoes. Texture was grainy and they droopy. Bechemel was over spiced with nutmeg. Inedible. All these dishes were garnished with a crispy fried cornflake like substance with a strange flavor. Had to scrape it all off. Wifey got a fusilli pasta with chix and pesto cream sauce. Pasta was a grainy texture and it seems the pesto cream was just a cream sauce no depth of pesto flavor. This dish was worse than the tomahawk steaks. On the positive notes. The apps were good. Bread plate was delicious...focacia and sesame baguette with fresh ricotta and olive oil. Aranchini with truffle cream sauce was great. Portions to small for price, though. Baked burratta was chewy but good flavor. Recommend not baking it. The service and ambiance were excellent. The only reason for the one star. The value was frankly highway robbery. The bill was $400 including 20% tip. No dessert or coffee was purchased. Hurt to pay the bill because the main course and sides were so bad. It felt like a tourist trap. Advice: Locals stay away! read more

I wish I could give this restaurant 10 stars!! I had my 50th Birthday party here and I knew the moment I met Chelsea and the staff that this was the place that I wanted to celebrate my special day. I am very fussy when it comes to food especially Italian food. Everything was so delicious. They all treat you with such care. Honestly everyone I have come in contact here has been so nice and lovely to be around. I feel like customer service is lost but not here. Clearly the management values good people and that comes across in the service. My husband and I just returned to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. I am so impressed with this restaurant and I am grateful that I have a new favorite place. When I can't be in Italy I can be here at Prima's with all of its charm!!! It is a must to try!!!! read more

Prima was absolutely the best. We ordered Ribeye steak and Spicy Pici to share and they were incredible - I've been to many other restaurants in North end, but none of the pastas come close to what I've had here! It was my birthday dinner and quite honestly they were rude start to finish. Made us wait 30 minutes for our table then sat us right next to the door, there were heaters on the table but we were still freezing. And after a 30 minute wait we expected better. Our server was short with us and it took me 20 minutes to find him again to order a glass of wine. The food came out altogether which was nice, but the portions were small and my pasta was undercooked to the point where it was borderline crunchy. Then they told us at the front podium that if they cut the cake it would be an extra charge, so we said dont worry we will cut it. The waiter brought out the cake so anticlimactically, then left us with just a butter knife. We made the best of it and cut a piece out. He comes back and looks shocked saying that the kitchen was going to cut it and they would have charged us either way. They come back out with the entire cake cut into 5 pieces and my slice was the only one that was completely falling apart. When it was time for the bill, the cake charge was 20 dollars extra. Overall, the ambience was great but for how much we paid, this experience was NOT worth it. read more

Have not written a review in a long time but must with this bust! Was excited to try this new restaurant as heard good things. Was there last Saturday night and although the food was decent, the service and drinks were horrible. Sat down on time 8;15, waiter did not come over for more than 15 minutes/finally ordered drinks, 20 minutes later drinks arrived, with a comment bar backed up. Waiter was acting like he was doing us a favor by taking our order/staff walking around doing nothing. Older gentlemen, maybe host, looked lost. Food was ok, nothing special for typical Italian food. Place - nice decor, bar busy, back room too. Will not go back too many other places that cater to clientele. Too bad..... read more

So many authentic Italian restaurants in Boston. Some 50 + years old. Prima is not that. I'm OK with a new server, that is shadowed by more experienced server. I had a waiter that had no idea what he was doing. He had no idea how to open a bottle of wine. Had no idea about any of the dishes on the menu. He had trouble cutting our bread for the table. I felt bad for the guy. The restaurant.. I ordered an old-fashioned. They served it with ice chips with no large ice cube.. Then the Caesar salad came out. It had about a gallon of dressing with so many other items on top nothing I have ever seen or wanted on a Cesar salad. Tuna Tatar was premade and kept in the fridge all day. It came out with a layer of some mayo sauce on top. We decided to pay for what was served and leave. The manager did come and asked what the problem was. He did confirm the waiter was brand new. Then I asked him about the ice issue. He said they ran out of large ice cubes so they gave me ice chips. Then he was a little bit aggressive regarding the food items. However, he did tell us we did not need to pay and we left.. read more

Went here on a Sunday night for dinner with some friends. Decor and ambience was super nice- the bar area looked cute to grab a drink too. We started with the bread plate with ricotta and the arancini. I kind of wish the bread of free given how nice this place is. The arancini was SO good- the sauce under was so cheesy and truffley- very flavorful. Probably my fav part of the meal. I got the ziti bolognese- the sauce was good and the meat was very tender but the pasta was a bit overdone - sometimes that happens with homemade pasta though. The chicken parm portion was HUGE - def easy to split with someone if you want! My friend who got the eggplant parm said it was a bit salty. All in all everyone enjoyed their meals a lot. The service was just ok- I got some one aperol spritz and my friends for mocktails and we were never asked if we wanted another drink or a refill- if I was asked I probably would've ordered another one. I would 10/10 go back here for the food! read more

Yesterday was our first time to Prima and it was absolute perfection. I made a reservation about a month ago for my fiancé's birthday dinner and left a small request for a note... not only did the staff (incredibly friendly and professional) do that for us but they sat us in the back room of the restaurant. If you've never been, imagine a sultry atmosphere filled with hints of Italian influence with a modern touch. 1000/10 on the decor, the food was so delicious and perfectly timed (he got the filet and mashed potatoes and I had the gluten free vodka pasta) and I cannot get over the service. Food was delicious. Very loud, energetic, and busy on a Friday night, but the service was very good.

The ambiance in the rose room was just lovely. Our server was very nice. Cocktails were great and the appetizers were very good as well. The entrees, not so much. My friend had the crispy chicken thighs, which were not crispy at all. I had the chicken Parmesan. Honestly, it was terrible. Dry, flavorless and really kind of sad. It came with a side of overcooked pasta that was in a light tomato sauce that was actually quite nice. The Caesar salad was pretty meh as well. Not too sure that it's worth a second try. read more

Food was marginal to poor, but could have forgiven a bad eggplant parm, marginal pasta sauce on side pasta and accepted the decent meatballs and arancini, but for the arrogant, borderline rude non-service in the back room. Dined on Mothers' Day with a friend who uses a walker. Bartender, who took orders with no uncertain terms instructions, placed walker across the room. Chair was heavy, table unsteady. Time to leave, my friend could not get up without assistance and none was available from "staff", who were busy entertaining their friends drinking at the bar. A customer came forward to help and my friend got up with ease with a little rearrangement and kindness to mitigate the humiliation. My daughter phoned ahead to take care of the check, which somewhat mollified the bartender who reported the treat. But where was he when it was time to assist a customer? The setting is lovely. Front of house faces a beautiful park, floor to ceiling windows open onto comfortable outdoor seating. The architecture is wonderful, evoking old buildings in Italy - pictures of the Italian film greats eating (Sofia's having pasta bianchi); kitchen is small. I gave this place one star because it was the lowest rating. Undeserved. I give it an N for Never again. read more

Went to Prima last night for a business dinner and was blown away by the atmosphere, food and service. The bar area was definitely bustling on a Thursday night and the drinks were immaculate. We tried the meatballs and from an East Boston Italian, I can honestly say they were comparable to my grandmothers. Then onto the dinner, the fresh burrata and the Arancini were incredible.
