I had high hopes, but left blah with the food. Ordered the destroyer. Homemade hash with bacon, sausage, country ham, & eggs. The hash, eggs, bacon was good. But, please do not call sliced lunch meat country ham. There is a huge difference in look & taste. Sausage was blah. The biscuit & gravy my wife ordered reminded us of the food we use to get at a galley we use to eat at in the service. But, the service was friendly & helpful. The restaurant was clean & had a spacious layout. Not sure if we will go back through. If we do, it won't be for breakfast. Most likely give the burgers a try. read more

This was my first time here. I saw a review about this place on Yelp! Lol! So I was like what the heck let me try them out. I was totally starving at the moment. And I was about to turn into the incredible HULK. Cause I didn't eat anything yet. Lol! They were extremely busy when we walked in. But we were seated quickly. I ordered the french toast with bacon, eggs scrambled with cheddar cheese and a side of potatoes. And a cup of coffee to top it off. The french toast wasn't bad. But I've had better. Service was great though! read more

Update: Pops is now my new fav spot for Fish Friday specials. The beer battered [cod] Fish 'n Chips and the Shrimp & Grits are AMAZING. There was also swordfish on special, too (which I would have loved to try if I only had a second stomach hmmm...)! $12 for Swordfish, $9 for Fish 'n Chips and the Shrimp & Grits. And of course, my previous review praises their cocktails, coffee and beer - all value priced. More and more I'm learning that Pop's is somewhere you go for the specials. They're 5 star, but the rest of the menu is mundane. read more

First off, Pop's has THE cleanest dining room of any restaurant I've ever been in. You always see them cleaning in their downtime if it's slower. I can only imagine how clean the kitchen area is. The waitresses are always attentive but never in an your face kind of way. (And yes, I specifically said waitresses bc I've never seen a male waiter in there... ever) As for the actual food - I don't know what it is but every time we go in here nothing ever pops out for me on the menu. For some reason, I always have a hankering for something they simply do not offer like an omelet with grilled chicken, peppers and salsa for instance. Breakfast-wise, this place definitely excels in nursing a hangover. Biscuits with chicken tenders smothered in potatoes and gravy comes to mind. My main gripe is that, for the money, you expect more than 3 small (like half size) chicken tenders on a $12 entree. The chicken and waffle is quite delicious but again, I'd rather have a bit more protein included for the price. The Bloody Mary is a feast for eyes but next time I'll see if I can upgrade the liquor as it was noticeably "ehh." That said, I'm sure this won't be the last time we go... but prob not for another 6 months. read more

Stoped for breakfast after church. Never been here, passed many times going to other breakfast favorites. Ordered my favorite, corned beef hash breakfast. Wife order chicken fried steak skillet. My hash was good, nothing spectacular. My wife's cfs was covered in onions. This dominated the taste. She said it was ok, but not something she will order in the future. Service was outstanding, portions are large and the restaurant was clean. Will come back again and make other choices from the menu. read more

The last time I visited Pops a couple of years ago I remember being a bit disappointed in my meal. This last time, however, was pretty fantastic - more reminiscent of other visits I can recall. I was surprised at how quiet it was there on an evening in the peak of holiday shopping season. This place really should be packed all the time! The portions are huge, but certainly not to make up for any lack of flavor. The prices are reasonable and service is super friendly. read more

So, i was I'm the most amazing mood & so happy to enjoy this place I have heard such great things about. I have enjoyed my patronage of Pops for quite a few years. Sadly, today was very disturbing. Our waitress Jaycie was not only slow and seemed to not understand waitressing in general, but was unapologetically rude to us because we were not vegan like her and we are vaccinated against Covid-19 which she states will now harm us more than the disease ever could. I was flabbergasted by this opinionated young woman and she was making my guests feel very uneasy. I believe everyone in this country has the right to their own belief system and should always be able to follow their own path. But there is a line crossed when you are in a public service occupation and you push your beliefs onto others and judge them when they do not follow yours. We not only had to hear about how horrible eating meat is, how we will be sick and die suddenly from our vaccinations, but we also had to listen to the tales of chemtrails in our area because of our military presence and "DARPA". That crossed the line to imply our military service is out here to harm us and we left. I will not be frequenting this establishment again if they continue to employ such rude people. Believe what you want, but do not push your unsubstantiated claims upon people and their families on a Sunday brunch where we were trying to enjoy our time together. I usually do not post reviews because of my reputation and service to this community, but members of my family were so distraught after this experience, that I did not want this disturbing others. I hope they make changes. read more

I really like the idea of this, with its theme and the atmosphere. I think it could be a little better, though. It doesn't have much of a diner feel--it definitely looks like any other restaurant chain. But the service was good, and everyone was friendly. The food was good. My boyfriend and I both got waffles. We're big fans of places that serve breakfast all day. I loved the presentation of the food. And it tasted really good. I honestly don't think there was anything really spectacular about it, but I enjoyed my meal and wouldn't mind going back. read more

I've been going here for years and they never disappoint. We had about a 20 minute wait this Saturday morning but it was worth it. Our waitress Tara was so sweet and attentive. I tried chicken and waffles for the first time because the Yelp pictures looked awesome and I was so glad I ordered it! This local chain gets a lot of hype--especially the Chesapeake location-- but after my visit to the branch in Norfolk, I am less than impressed. The place is cramped and HOT; there are no ceiling fans. Our waitress had resting and unresting bitch face (until she was ready for her tip). When I asked to replace the meat side with a fruit side in my breakfast, there was an exorbitant up charge (just one example of their nickle and dimeing. Another was the $5 difference in their vodka mimosa vs the others! Pass ... ). The waitress was also condescending to my mother for no apparent reason. And, disgustingly, when I opened my leftovers, there was black hair interwoven throughout my food (I'm a brunette). Before that point, I had actually enjoyed the egg sandwich, breakfast potatoes and fruit. But now my stomach has turned. Needless to say ... I am not amused. read more

Pops is a solid diner. It's clean, updated, and nice inside. Staff is friendly and fast. Kids eat for free!!! There are always tons of families when we go, but we've never had to wait for a seat. Only go for breakfast. I repeat only go for breakfast. I've been for lunch and it was gross to be quite honest. I had the Turkey and Brie crossandwich (maybe it was my fault for ordering that ‍). Soggy, flavorless, gross. Breakfast is always solid though, waffles, eggs, corned beef hash, home fries, French toast, everything I've had has been good. Solid breakfast place. read more

I have been here many times and have always had wonderful experiences until today. We had a party of 10. I understand that some restaurants add an automatic gratuity to large parties. Typically, it's 15-18%. However, Pop's added on a gratuity of 20%. I generally tip at least 20% anyway so that wouldn't have even been an issue if it hadn't been for the fact that the service we received today was far from being worth 20% gratuity. Once I received my bill with the included gratuity, it became so obvious to me why our server had been so inattentive. She knew that she was getting 20% anyway so why would she provide us with good service when she was going to get paid regardless? This has been my go-to breakfast spot for years, but not anymore. read more

The food here is always good and i love that kids eat free. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap with fries, my daughter got the kids French toast with eggs. My mom got a chopped steak meal and my nephew had kids chicken tenders with fries. Everything came out pretty quickly and 3 out of 4 of our meals were perfect. My mom had an issue with her meal but the waitress was apologetic and quick to fix the issue and adjust the check accordingly. The manager even came by to double check with my mom and make sure she got the right meal. All in all, everything was good and we'll be back! read more

So we have been here a few times for breakfast with a friend who has a child... I guess the biggest appeal is that kids "eat free" or something. Not too sure. The food is very "meh" imho. The last time we went the food came out after a bit of a wait and was all cool to the touch. Who wants to send everything back? Also, I love home fries but the ones here are a big pile of mush. I forget that each time I come but the ratio of onions to potatoes is way too high and the potatoes are not prepped right so it is usually a slimy concoction that is more gag worthy than edible after about three bites. Plus I bit down on a potato and bit down on a dirt speck- twice in one meal. It's just a bit jarring. So maybe they weren't washed all the way (or at all). It's local and cute and cheery but not on my list of fav local places. read more

I enjoy diners, crisp, clean, bright and happy diners. Pop's has all of that plus friendly service, creative food and fair prices. We dropped in at 2pm which made us one of three tables in the dining room with patrons. Certainly that made it easier for Rochelle to keep us happy, I'll give you that. But she did more than keep us happy, she interacted with us. With encouragement from Rochelle I ordered a cup of Fasolatha (Greek navy bean soup) with the turkey cranberry wrap. The soup was hot and delicious. I made note of all the ingredients so I can reproduce it on my own kitchen, it was that good. The Turkey cranberry wrap also had candied nuts in it which gave it a nice sweet crunch. My husband was very happy with his classic Rueben. When we were leaving Rochelle offered us water 'to-go', which is what we were drinking. What a lovely touch. I know this place is hopping during regular dining hours. I had the corned beef hash skillet which was pretty massively amazing, except it seemed like it was just one egg as opposed to two. And trust, it needed two. I mean, there was a mountain of home fries, topped by a mountain of the hash, and then there was the measly egg scattered about...but with lots of cheese. It was good, nonetheless. Just a bad ratio. The bread pudding, however, was THE BEST EVER. I will return exclusively for that. Breakfast can wait. read more

I've been to Pop's diner twice before and each time I came I was pleased with the service and the food. I prefer mom and pop shops over chains, however, my kids love this place and the food is good. The prices aren't so bad either. On this day, I came here with my daughter before my appointment with my gynecologist. Oh, how we ladies love getting our special area checked annually by ice cold speculums and probes. So exciting.... I needed a boost to get my mind right, so why not grab some yummy breakfast beforehand with my mini-me? The hostess quickly seated us and our waitress arrived to our tables with our menus within seconds. Our meal arrived in less than 10 minutes. It was hot and smelled fabulous. The french toast was perfect! The fruit cup was fresh. My daughter enjoyed her waffle. We both ordered home fries but there was so much of it that we only needed one order to split. We barely ate the home fries. That was the only thing that was left remaining on our plates. I guess we were just to full from throwing down on everything else. I'll definitely be returning here. I love that they offer free meals for kids daily. That's fantastic! read more

Service was good and quick; prices were reasonable. Food just didn't grab my attention. Based on what I ordered (chop steak w/ mushrooms and Mac n cheese), I wasn't impressed food wise. Nothing was bad at all, but it was all pretty solidly mediocre. If I'm ever back I'd give breakfast a shot though. Other than the food, everything was great. Prices were good, service was quick, and my server (Taylor) was friendly and came by the table to check drinks and such often. Just wish the food has kept up. read more

It takes a lot to make great breakfast food away from home. The handful of times that I have been here the service has always been very good. The food, on the other hand, is average in taste WITHOUT the greasy spoon taste that many chain breakfast restaurants offer. The first time I dined here I had waffles. You can't really ruin waffles. They were tasty but could have been a little crisper. The next time I went I asked if they could cook them a little longer so they would be a little more crisp. They didn't come out crisp at all, but the taste was still good. Another time I had country fried steak. This is not the place to order that dish. The dish was served promptly and was plated well, but it was rather bland. I would not order again. This last time that I went, my daughter and I each had a plate of potato skins. They were pretty good with a lot of potato and less skin. They could have stood to be a little more crisp. The children eat free with a paying adult is a wonderful policy. It's not something you see much of anymore. One thing I do give them props for is that the dishes are made with fresh ingredients and you can tell when you eat it. A little seasoning on some foods would make a vast improvement. I should mention that the portion sizes are ample and you won't leave hungry. It's not a place that I am eager to dine at, but I won't say no if others want to come here and eat. read more

First, the food appears as if it comes off a Sysco truck. The skillets are not cooked on a skillet. The warmed ingredients are piled onto a room-temperature piece of metal, which is placed on a standard plate. You'd be much happier down the street at Broken Egg or another Chesapeake breakfast place. Second, don't give your friends and family gift certificates because they are only redeemable in $10 increments. That means that if your meal cost $11 and you hand your server two $10 gift certificates, they will take both and say, "Thank you!" When this happened to me, I was surprised and certain a mistake had been made-- I did not intend to give a $9 tip on an $11 meal. The manager came over and acted like I was trying to rip off the store. He said that "no cash value" means that you cannot redeem partial gift certificates and retain partial credit; to me, "no cash value" means I cannot bring the certificate into the store to exchange for "cash." Eventually, he accepted my offer to pay the $1 and tip myself and he wrote me out a new certificate. It's evident to me that this store cuts corners in food quality and service to make a profit. I will only go once more-- to spend one of my remaining certificates and sell the the other three for $9 each out front. So, if you disagree with my first point, and you plan on going back, come get my gift certificates. read more

Never been to Pop's diner before but we will be coming back. I got the blueberry pancakes and they were massive. My fiance had to finish the rest. I've been here a few times and I always enjoy it. Whether it's dine in or pick up its satisfying. The place is spacious so it's great for any size party and the staff is always accommodating. It's over in the greenbrier area so it also has a good location if you don't want to eat inside the mall. We are usually seated with little to no wait which is always a great thing. The staff is pretty nice, they answer any questions you could have and let you know if anything is on special. I like to order the chicken wrap with broccoli on the side. It always comes out hot and fresh. Surprisingly they also have honey mustard which I usually request. The portions of the food are pretty big. Sometimes I only eat half a wrap and save the rest for later. The food is pretty great and if you want some American fanfare this would be a good place to drop by. read more
