Giving this place 3 stars because my husband's little cousin used to work here and he put us on their poke, so we usually come here when we want poke. This time around it hasn't been so good. We ordered takeout and we usually don't mind paying extra for the bluefin tuna but it was so bad this time. Super disappointing and gross. All of our pieces of bluefin were gray and moldy looking. We tried it and it tasted super rank, sour, and fishy. Sucks to have paid extra for something we threw away. Service is usually pretty decent but we placed an online order this time so can't really say much about it. Ambiance of the place is kind of just like a quick sit down lunch so we usually take it to go. That's all I really have to say about it. Came here for a quick bite before needing to catch a flight - it's located in the plaza adjacent to John Wayne Airport in the Paderia Bakery/Starbucks plaza. The portion sizes here are generous, and the staff were nice. They don't charge extra for extra scoops or crab meat or for avocado (!!!). But something was missing flavor-wise. I got a large (3 scoops) of salmon. I think most of the items are free of charge except yellowtail and blue fin tuna. You can also get different sauce blends, which I tried their house blend and spicy mayo. The food itself was okay, not the best poke I had. The rice was very hard and the salmon tasted okay to me. BEST POKE PLACE FOR YOUR BUCK! This place is incredible not because of the portions but because of the quality! When we saw the price that a small poke is around 14$ I was sort of wondering... maybe it's just for expensive im CA? But I was wrong. The only thing I'd say is the menu steps aren't as clear as I thought step 2 would be your main course but it isn't it's just an add on. So maybe a bit more clarity on the steps. Well I decided to get the crab mixture which gosh was so so so delicious! And proceeded to add all of the other topping I wanted. We ordered 3 pokes and it was enough for my partner to just eat out of the other 3 come out with a generous meal. We noticed that the owner was in the back doing some paper work and felt very compelled to tell him that this was a great concept and food was very very delicious. He seemed very grateful and kind. The place was plenty of seating and their is a bathroom as well. The workers were very friendly and helpful! I seriously can't wait to come back and visit and maybe come here straight out of the airport which will be a drive but worth it ! I feel like this place has slowly gone downhill over the years. It used to be one of my go to places for poke but the quality and quantity has not held up compared to other places. Food and service is pretty much hit or miss depending on the employee and the day. If you are craving for poke I recommend checking out Uroko Cafe (open late as well) or Tiger Plate. Poke is always a good idea. This place had many different options and the portion is pretty fat. This was a quick pace build your own poke similar concept to chipotle or your pie. I really hated how unfriendly they were and it was so off putting going for the first time with no direction or patience. So first timers be aware. Sauce needs a bit of improvement whether it be more or more flavorful. I know I could've asked for more but it being my first time I didn't know what their sauces were like. Although they fill it up (if you opt for a lot of toppings), they give you very little protein. It was not even a full scoop of salmon and then she proceeded to even scoop some out. I probably got half the portion I was supposed to. I've worked at a poke spot so I understand protein is expensive and should be a small not over filling scoop so it almost feels like robbery not getting much protein. This is high-quality poke and a good amount of portions too! I love the different tuna options they provided and their spice levels were solid! I appreciated that they also had a vegetarian option for my coworker who wanted to join for lunch. Portions were great, the fish was fresh, toppings were solid, and prices were similar to other poke places I've been. This is also conveniently located in a shopping center that has a lot of dessert options nearby AND is close to the work buildings, so it's a win-win. Poke Dot has been my go to spot when I'm craving a poke bowl lately. They have a good amount of fish as well as toppings to choose from. I've recently been getting their Maui Tuna which is their marinated tuna and it's very flavorful. I've tried their salmon and shrimp before too, and they all taste fresh and not too fishy at all. I also love how they don't charge extra for avocado (which a lot of other poke places do). There's a good amount of seating both inside and outside which is a plus.
