    Anatomy of a samurai roll
    Suzzen P.

I regularly go to the Heemo in Orange, and was super excited to see one open up in Tustin. The dining area is obviously newer, but my first impression is how welcoming it feels when you go inside. There are a lot of items I frequently get, but this post is a tribute to the Samurai Roll. It's a high end version of a salmon roll: California roll with real crab (you read right, *REAL* crab...like I hope this wasn't a mistake) and a seared pepper salmon on top. Delicious! The only thing distracting is the amount of green sprouts, which I ended up just removing from the sides. Other noteworthy items is their salmon sushi, crispy rice, and teriyaki beef for those who don't like raw fish.

My bf and I came here for lunch on a Monday (today) and it was so good that this is one of the rare time when I felt compelled to write them a review as soon as I get home! I found Heemo by chance, after failing to remember my favorite chirashi place (Sushi Koto) is closed on a Monday. But, thanks to that, I discovered Heemo via Yelp and will add this to my go-to list because they are actually closer to us than our other favorite sushi place! I actually haven't heard or know anything about Heemo but from their website, I see that they have 4 locations, one in Orange, also close by! I was in this plaza last year in December and I think this location was another sushi spot, so I'm glad that Heemo took over. The interior is beautiful and I appreciate their art works. You can tell the owner put in a lot of heart and soul when designing the place. The service was top notch! It was so proper, professional, and friendly!!! Both young ladies who served us were super nice! I was drawn to Heemo by the chirashi bowl on their menu. Since it was for lunch and we weren't that hungry, my bf and I wanted to share the chirashi bowl, the teriyaki salmon special box (bento), and a yellowtail Kama. I skimmed through the reviews initially when accessing this place for our lunch choice and saw that lots of people mentioned huge portions, boy, they weren't kidding!! The chirashi bowl was the best in my opinion. The cuts were big, kinda like Otoro bar, if not bigger. Their sashimi were so fresh and so delicious! The bento box was one of the biggest I've seen and had! So big that I don't think it qualifies as a bento/box, they should just call it special lunch combo! But I understand why it's under the bento category. With this, you get a huge salmon plate, tempura plate, salad, rice on the side, and miso soup! We boxed most of this home since it took both of us to finish our delicious chirashi bowl, because we were not as hungry! The collar was so yummy and it is also big. Heemo, thank you so much for opening and I hope the portion, sashimi cut on the chirashi, and the service and quality will never change! Highly recommend! I already told all my friends about this place!

Ashland the most knowledgeable for picking your rolls. Clean fresh and amazing spot for my office lunches. Prices are right on! Workers in the area come here. Families wanting sushi come here. And doctors like myself you'll be very pleased.

Friday Dinner, wasn't busy when we walked in around 5:30 but it started to fill up after. Menu is various rolls, small nigiri and sashimi options and some hot food. Ordered some rolls that I can't recall as that have crazy names like samurai and Roxy etc etc. Generally speaking the sushi is on par with some of the AYCE places. A lot of Krab, topping, and sauces and less emphasis on the fish. The beef teriyaki is really not beef teriyaki but rather closer to Korean bulgogi. Tempura was a little sad but had variety. The Negitoro roll was less about the fish more about the presentation with gold flakes and minced white onion, but it overpowered the fish. Overall i wouldn't call this a traditional authentic sushi joint and more of roll focused place. None of the rolls stood out and they were more or less the same with various sauces. Service was attentive.

Wow I'm so glad I checked this place out on a whim. I saw on social media it was a newly opened place. Everything here was amazing! They even hooked us up with a salmon appetizer! We ordered a lot and everything was delicious and didn't disappoint at all! Yellow collar, Takoyaki, Pink Scallop Carpaccio, 4 piece double albacore, mackerel nigiri, squid nigiri, Malibu Roll, Sunkist Roll. I'm not over exaggerating when I say everything was on hit! Can't wait to be back!

This restaurant is clean with good immediate seating (6 people) on a Sat @7. Pretty amazing. The rolls were delicious and rather large.. The chirashi bowl had 2 large slices of 5 different fishes and they were very fresh and of good quality.. overall I have to give this restaurant a 4.5 STAR RATING..

We decided to try Heemo Sushi in Tustin because of all the glowing reviews, but after our experience, I honestly question how legitimate some of them are. Right when we walked in, nobody greeted us. We stood around for a bit before having to find someone ourselves just to get seated. We started with three different sashimi selections, and they were all disappointing. The cuts were unusually large, had a strange slimy texture, and honestly looked and tasted unappetizing. I've eaten sushi for years and have never been served sashimi that felt that slimy before. We also ordered the Tustin Roll, Mystery Roll, and baked salmon roll. None of them were good. The Mystery Roll had some kind of puree on top that gave off a synthetic smell and flavor that completely clashed with the sushi. The baked salmon roll was drowning in sauce and was easily the worst baked salmon roll I've ever had. The teriyaki chicken was okay, but there was way too much cartilage mixed in, making several bites unpleasantly chewy. Our first waitress was friendly and understanding. After hearing our concerns, she kindly removed one of the rolls from the bill. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. Once the manager, Daniel, learned that we didn't enjoy another roll and weren't planning to finish it, he approached our table in a defensive manner and immediately demanded to know what was wrong. I calmly explained our concerns, but it felt like he wasn't interested in hearing feedback. Instead, he repeatedly emphasized that they were simply following their recipe. Whether you're following a recipe or not isn't really the point when a customer is explaining why they didn't enjoy a dish. As a manager, I would expect someone to approach dissatisfied customers with professionalism and genuine curiosity, not with an unapproachable attitude and elevated tone. The interaction left a worse impression than the food itself. If you're someone who appreciates quality sushi and fresh sashimi, I'd recommend spending your money elsewhere. This experience was disappointing from both a food and customer service standpoint, and unfortunately, I won't be returning.

The chirashi bowl, udon bowl, and handrolls were ginormous! Service was fast and friendly, everything taste fresh and delicious. Looking forward to future visits to try other options on their extensive menu.

Definitely adding this spot to the OC sushi rotation!! Everything we ordered was delicious, and the quality of the fish was so good!! Each bite melted in my mouth, and you can truly taste how fresh everything is. The presentation was also gorgeous. The menu selection is huge, with everything from fresh sushi and sashimi to baked rolls, specialty rolls, udon, and more. There's something for everyone, whether you prefer classic cuts or heavier baked options. And warning.. the rolls are HUGE. We ordered: Salmon Carpaccio Baked Salmon Heemo Roll Baked Pink Scallops Samurai Roll Shishito Peppers Green Salad Sake The carpaccio was light and refreshing, the baked items were warm and savory, and the scallops had that rich, slightly sweet flavor. The rolls were packed with flavor and generously portioned.

This was our second time here for lunch and we brought more coworkers this time to celebrate a birthday. Many of the people in our group ordered some type of dish with teriyaki chicken and they did not like the taste of it. They left most of it behind. I ordered the lunch combination with a sushi roll and sashimi. This time around, the fish did not taste as fresh. The service overall felt a little awkward, and I think our waitress was still in training or new. As for the lighting, I noticed that it wasn't as bright, but it was much better this way. Maybe I'll come back on my own to try some other dishes before I suggest coming back here with my coworkers.

Had a solo Sunday night and saw this place pop up when I was looking for places to eat and decided to give it a go! Located in a strip mall area, parking was fairly easy to find considering how many shops are around. Walk in and was greeted by the chefs and waitresses and opted to sit in the sushi bar. Browsed through the menu and all the prices were fairly decent! Ordered some sushi as well as a salmon skin roll. The whole restaurant looked very cozy inside. Whoever designed the place did a wonderful job. I have to say the presentation of the dishes were beautiful! The sushi came out first and the fish to rice ratio was awesome. Giant slices of fish with the right amount of rice. All of it tasted fresh and most importantly, very delicious! My favorite had to be the salmon skin roll as that's my go to every time. It was crispy and the rolls were huge! Paid around $33 for the meal which included 8 rolls and the salmon skin roll which to me is a very fair price considering the quality of the sushi and how delicious it was. Servers were very polite and chefs were very welcoming and said goodbye as I left the restaurant. Overall I'd say this place is worth checking out and definitely recommend getting your sushi fix here!

Omg the sushi here is soooo fresh and fat. Obsessed The staff is very friendly and sweet. Decor is beautiful I love the little awnings. I came during a busy lunch rush so of course it takes a little time to make cooked things like spicy garlic edamame but when it did come out it was absolutely delicious. This immediately became my new favorite sushi spot in the area

We ordered the following: Agedashi Tofu: This was honestly the highlight of the meal. I have been craving this appetizer, but not many places around here actually offer it. The last place I tried this was at Haku, and I was not impressed by it. However, the tofu here was really good! It was hot, crispy, and the sauce was perfectly sweet and salty. It comes with 4 larger sized pieces of tofu, which I thought was great, but could have been more for the price. Stir Fry Udon: This dish was advertised outside on one of their stand up signs by the front door. This is part of what brought us in, but upon receiving it, I was not too impressed. The sauce was extremely dark and it already looked salty. When I actually tasted it, I was not surprised that it tasted exactly how it looked. It was way too salty and saucey to the point, we were eating one bite then drinking water right after. It was a pretty simple dish with what looked like frozen carrots and peas and some cut up chicken. Lunch Bento Box Option 2: We opted in for the teriyaki salmon, gyoza, and salmon roll. It came with a side of salad and miso soup. The salmon was cut very thin and it did not have enough teriyaki sauce on it. It was on the dry side. The gyoza was nothing too special. Just felt frozen then dried with gyoza sauce. Miso soup and salad were also just decent. The best part of this meal probably had to be the salmon roll. I liked the big portions of salmon and the little rice on the outside. This was the perfect balance instead of just getting a mouthful of rice each bit like most other sushi places do. I think this place was decent, overall. The prices were definitely on the higher side for what you get. Nothing too much to rave about other than the agedashi tofu, so I will be by for that again, but not sure if I would necessarily get anything else. Service was attentive and great. Just know, not all their offerings are actually listed on the menu, so we did not even know how much the stir fry udon was until we got charged for it.

This place nickel and dimes customers for everything. We were charged $6 just to add cucumber to a roll, $4 to add gobo, and even an extra charge to add lemon. The biggest issue wasn't even the prices, it was that our waiter never mentioned any of these upcharges when we ordered. If you're going to charge premium prices for simple additions, customers deserve to be told beforehand. We've eaten at countless sushi restaurants over the years, and we've never been charged these kinds of fees for basic add-ons, especially without any warning. It felt deceptive and left a terrible impression. Restaurants don't lose customers over a few dollars. They lose them when customers feel misled. Transparent pricing builds trust. Hidden charges destroy it. We won't be coming back, and unfortunately, we can't recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an honest dining experience.

Filled with curry flavoring on the beef, it was not super overwhelming and it was very fulfilling overall. Absolutely love the portions as well. Overall, a amazing spot in Tustin that's lowkey hidden. Food is high quality and definitely made with care. Staff is fast and professional. Absolutely coming back in the near future to try their other menu items. They have more than just soba, sushi rolls, and curry. Excited to try their other sushi rolls + udon as well.

Orange Roll & Sushi 139…read more Located just across from Oliboli Donuts with them sharing the same parking lot amongst other tenants I can see this parking lot getting pretty crowded. We arrived at 8pm on a Sat, luckily there was no wait which after eating the food I was surprised there was no wait, maybe because they close at 930 and I am sure there is a last call. This next part is coming from someone who has been to Japan and experienced restaurants out there. When we first got inside we were greeted by all staff, including the ones hidden behind the counter, the first thing that came to my mind was the feeling of being back in Japan just a little bit bigger. Very cozy and intimate it really put that feeling of "hey you can relax, we got you". Easily my mind being transported back here with some people sitting in the restaurant, glad they left not to long after we were sat down. They have a good amount of choices and as I always say sushi restaurants with pictures in their menu is always such a W, our eyes eat first. What we ordered, we first started with sake and went with Kikusui which is always really smooth specially chilled. What I loved about here, was they come with a big round plate and let you choose your sake vessel, as you can tell from my photos we choose the ones with the little fish in them, that was a first and really stood out. First that came were the sushi pairs: Seared Tuna With Garlic Chips: Lightly seared but just the right amount, same goes with the rice vessel, it wasn't too much or too little. Very good and fresh tuna, that sear gave the tuna a very nice texture, the comes the crunch from the garlic chips. Very nice flavor bomb! Albacore: Delicious and fresh, really made me excited for the rolls coming up. Peppered Albacore With Garlic Chips: I forgot I had this after trying just the albacore by itself so I got excited that I didn't have to wait for the rolls. And this did not disappoint, the peppered part of the dish had just the right of a double jab of Cajun and smoky, which paired perfectly with the albacore, then randomly ghost punch of garlic with those crispy garlic chips. If they had all you can eat, oh man there would be never a time I didn't have this in front of me. In my pictures there was a peppered salmon with fresh onions, my wifes sister ordered this so I didn't get to try but she said it was really good and fresh. Our sushi rolls came out and AIYAH what kind of reviewer forgets to take a photo of an item. Sitting sadly in the bokeh distance we did order a: Stinky Roll - Which was your regular sushi roll but topped with Albacore, fresh onion and garlic butter. As mentioned above, everything was delicious and fresh, I don't like onions so to me I was questioning where is the stank, I love garlic and dipping it into the garlic butter was different but good. It was overall a good roll but this would be last amongst what we ordered. O.C. Roll: Shrimp Tempura, spicy tuna avocado inside topped with fresh salmon and lemon slices. This can go two ways for people, in example I ate the two end pieces as they are and it was delicious, then when I went for a middle piece, if you eat the lemon slice, that part will explode and with a sharp sour or bitter taste that like I said some people love or some don't. I probably had a small piece of the lemon on the corner pieces, so for me I took the slices off and it was still a fantastic roll. Autumn Roll: My favorite amongst the rolls, Spicy Tuna, avo, cilantro and cucumber inside, topped with peppered salmon and albacore. Just an umami explosion, lil heat from the spicy tuna, then comes the smoky cajun, it was really good and I was seriously holding back the urge to just take the plate and not share with my wife and her sister. Lastly was my favorite dish: Spicy tuna on crispy rice: I always order this at sushi places and this can easily make or break a place for me. When it arrived I was very questioned, big piece of avo, a good mountain shaped amount of spicy tuna, the shape of it being round was throwing me off. Most places either cute them into a rectangle or even square, my first bite crunch was def there, but it was a sticky inside the crispy rice boat that took a little to separate to get the piece in the mouth. But WAIT A MINUTE, that sticky inside mixed well with the crispy exterior, the rice had flavor and honestly gave me almost like a crunchy mochi vibe. It was different but that's where it set them apart from others I have had. Everything on the vessel was delicious like others, but adding what they did to their crispy rice made me really enjoy and still even as I write this is contender to one of my favorite Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice dishes. In conclusion, I find us coming here on a good rotation in the vast choices of sushi restaurant! (didnt know there was a text cap SORRY!!) Feast Well Fellow Yelpers!
