My bf and I came here for lunch on a Monday (today) and it was so good that this is one of the rare time when I felt compelled to write them a review as soon as I get home! I found Heemo by chance, after failing to remember my favorite chirashi place (Sushi Koto) is closed on a Monday. But, thanks to that, I discovered Heemo via Yelp and will add this to my go-to list because they are actually closer to us than our other favorite sushi place! I actually haven't heard or know anything about Heemo but from their website, I see that they have 4 locations, one in Orange, also close by! I was in this plaza last year in December and I think this location was another sushi spot, so I'm glad that Heemo took over. The interior is beautiful and I appreciate their art works. You can tell the owner put in a lot of heart and soul when designing the place. The service was top notch! It was so proper, professional, and friendly!!! Both young ladies who served us were super nice! I was drawn to Heemo by the chirashi bowl on their menu. Since it was for lunch and we weren't that hungry, my bf and I wanted to share the chirashi bowl, the teriyaki salmon special box (bento), and a yellowtail Kama. I skimmed through the reviews initially when accessing this place for our lunch choice and saw that lots of people mentioned huge portions, boy, they weren't kidding!! The chirashi bowl was the best in my opinion. The cuts were big, kinda like Otoro bar, if not bigger. Their sashimi were so fresh and so delicious! The bento box was one of the biggest I've seen and had! So big that I don't think it qualifies as a bento/box, they should just call it special lunch combo! But I understand why it's under the bento category. With this, you get a huge salmon plate, tempura plate, salad, rice on the side, and miso soup! We boxed most of this home since it took both of us to finish our delicious chirashi bowl, because we were not as hungry! The collar was so yummy and it is also big. I regularly go to the Heemo in Orange, and was super excited to see one open up in Tustin. The dining area is obviously newer, but my first impression is how welcoming it feels when you go inside. There are a lot of items I frequently get, but this post is a tribute to the Samurai Roll. It's a high end version of a salmon roll: California roll with real crab (you read right, *REAL* crab...like I hope this wasn't a mistake) and a seared pepper salmon on top. Delicious! The only thing distracting is the amount of green sprouts, which I ended up just removing from the sides. Other noteworthy items is their salmon sushi, crispy rice, and teriyaki beef for those who don't like raw fish. read more

Friday Dinner, wasn't busy when we walked in around 5:30 but it started to fill up after. Menu is various rolls, small nigiri and sashimi options and some hot food. Ordered some rolls that I can't recall as that have crazy names like samurai and Roxy etc etc. Generally speaking the sushi is on par with some of the AYCE places. A lot of Krab, topping, and sauces and less emphasis on the fish. The beef teriyaki is really not beef teriyaki but rather closer to Korean bulgogi. Tempura was a little sad but had variety. The Negitoro roll was less about the fish more about the presentation with gold flakes and minced white onion, but it overpowered the fish. Overall i wouldn't call this a traditional authentic sushi joint and more of roll focused place. None of the rolls stood out and they were more or less the same with various sauces. Wow I'm so glad I checked this place out on a whim. I saw on social media it was a newly opened place. Everything here was amazing! They even hooked us up with a salmon appetizer! Unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired. I ordered take out of the samurai sushi rolls and the Tustin sushi rolls. Both seemed popular from their menu. While I appreciate that the sauces were separated in ramekins, the flavoring of the rolls itself felt completely off to me. The samurai rolls didn't taste like much except for spicy, mushy tuna, and spicy mayo sauce. Overall it tasted bland. But the Tustin roll was the worse. The fish was warm, tasted odd, quite fishy, and even the sauce couldn't save the dish. They had a "buy one get one 50% off (BOGO50)" deal, but I ended up tossing 85% of my Tustin roll. Service was standard of being provided a menu, given the promo of BOGO50, and then have my order taken. The restaurant looked clean to me while I was placing my order. Parking close to the restaurant might be a challenge when the area is busy, but behind the restaurant is a larger plaza that has more parking. It would just mean a short walk to the restaurant. This place unfortunately didn't meet my expectations, but I am on the fence if I want to give the place another chance since my understanding is that they're fairly new. read more

We decided to try Heemo Sushi in Tustin because of all the glowing reviews, but after our experience, I honestly question how legitimate some of them are. Right when we walked in, nobody greeted us. We stood around for a bit before having to find someone ourselves just to get seated. We started with three different sashimi selections, and they were all disappointing. The cuts were unusually large, had a strange slimy texture, and honestly looked and tasted unappetizing. I've eaten sushi for years and have never been served sashimi that felt that slimy before. We also ordered the Tustin Roll, Mystery Roll, and baked salmon roll. None of them were good. The Mystery Roll had some kind of puree on top that gave off a synthetic smell and flavor that completely clashed with the sushi. The baked salmon roll was drowning in sauce and was easily the worst baked salmon roll I've ever had. The teriyaki chicken was okay, but there was way too much cartilage mixed in, making several bites unpleasantly chewy. Our first waitress was friendly and understanding. After hearing our concerns, she kindly removed one of the rolls from the bill. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. Once the manager, Daniel, learned that we didn't enjoy another roll and weren't planning to finish it, he approached our table in a defensive manner and immediately demanded to know what was wrong. I calmly explained our concerns, but it felt like he wasn't interested in hearing feedback. Instead, he repeatedly emphasized that they were simply following their recipe. Whether you're following a recipe or not isn't really the point when a customer is explaining why they didn't enjoy a dish. As a manager, I would expect someone to approach dissatisfied customers with professionalism and genuine curiosity, not with an unapproachable attitude and elevated tone. The interaction left a worse impression than the food itself. If you're someone who appreciates quality sushi and fresh sashimi, I'd recommend spending your money elsewhere. This experience was disappointing from both a food and customer service standpoint, and unfortunately, I won't be returning. read more

We had a great dinner at Heemo Sushi! Four of us ordered the following: - tuna lover (delicious! Definitely a hit if you love tuna, lol) - spicy rainbow (also very yummy - the albacore was especially good) - south (the table favorite - this was soooo good and melted in your mouth. Could eat this every day!) - crunch (always a hit) - shrimp lover (so so good! Even my husband loved this one who doesn't even like shrimp!) - chicken fried rice (honestly a HIT. The chicken was amazing and the rice was so good. The flavor was amazing!) This would have definitely been a 5 star spot, but there were just a few things that brought it down. Our rice was forgotten twice it seemed, and it took over an hour to come out. One of our servers even asked a few times whether we'd received it, and we said no. The wine corkage fee was also pricey - $25 to bring your own wine seems kind of wild, and the server didn't even open the bottle, she just left the opener on the table. We also asked what the sushi rolls were that were brought out, and it was clear she didn't know - she asked what we'd ordered, and we couldn't remember off the top of our head because the names are kind of funky, so we said we'd just figure it out. Aside from a couple little things, this spot was great. We will still absolutely come back, but we will plan to leave the wine at home and just order from the restaurant. This was our second time here for lunch and we brought more coworkers this time to celebrate a birthday. Many of the people in our group ordered some type of dish with teriyaki chicken and they did not like the taste of it. They left most of it behind. I ordered the lunch combination with a sushi roll and sashimi. This time around, the fish did not taste as fresh. The service overall felt a little awkward, and I think our waitress was still in training or new. As for the lighting, I noticed that it wasn't as bright, but it was much better this way. I'm used to other sushi restaurants where when you walk in, the chefs, the servers and staff all welcome you. Once we were sat down, no one took our drinks order. We flagged someone down to place our order. He did not seem happy to take our order and was about to walk away when we were said we also want to get some water and drinks. Food was also lack luster. The rolls were cut too big. They also weren't wrapped tight enough and the ingredients fell out in some. The flavors were mediocre. Had a solo Sunday night and saw this place pop up when I was looking for places to eat and decided to give it a go! Located in a strip mall area, parking was fairly easy to find considering how many shops are around. Walk in and was greeted by the chefs and waitresses and opted to sit in the sushi bar. Browsed through the menu and all the prices were fairly decent! Ordered some sushi as well as a salmon skin roll. The whole restaurant looked very cozy inside. Whoever designed the place did a wonderful job. I have to say the presentation of the dishes were beautiful! The sushi came out first and the fish to rice ratio was awesome. Giant slices of fish with the right amount of rice. All of it tasted fresh and most importantly, very delicious! My favorite had to be the salmon skin roll as that's my go to every time. It was crispy and the rolls were huge! Paid around $33 for the meal which included 8 rolls and the salmon skin roll which to me is a very fair price considering the quality of the sushi and how delicious it was. Servers were very polite and chefs were very welcoming and said goodbye as I left the restaurant. Absolutely incredible experience at Heemo Sushi. We tried the takoyaki, the 4-piece South sushi roll, the baked scallop, and the double baked salmon roll. Don't even get me started with the baked salmon roll, it was honestly one of the best baked salmon rolls I've ever had. Everything tasted super fresh, flavorful, and perfectly made. They even brought us a complimentary dish that ended up being insanely good too. The service was genuinely amazing, attentive, friendly, and fast without feeling rushed. I accidentally spilled a glass of water (whoops) so my friend and I tried to clean it up quickly, but a minute later the staff came to check on how our food was tasting, noticed the spill and quickly got some napkins. Y'all don't sleep on Heemo! The rolls are huuuuuge, and very reasonably priced. Please take a moment to look at the photos (for sizing) before you order because my husband and I got 2 rolls and 6 pieces of sushi to split between us and we could barely finish it! (This is a good thing). Start with 1 roll to share and then just order again if needed! If I'm honest, the fish isn't the freshest freshest fish you can get- but it can hit the sushi craving spot, especially considering the price and location for our fam. They added an option to eat 1/2 of a roll- which I love so I can try different rolls. The salmon and yellowtail stand out the most as solid choices for sushi. The cherry on top--they have a $9 kids meal menu and the wait staff is VERY family-friendly. Not only did they ask us immediately how many high chairs we needed but they also noticed later that my son wanted to sit next to me on the booth and asked if I needed a booster. They were able to bring our kids' food first (so imp!). My daughter could not get over the waffle fries. My son devoured the popcorn chicken, and ate up the sushi rice. They also both shared an avocado roll. The size of the roll was also huge and they didn't skimp on the avocado portion. I wish I took pictures, but you'll just have to take my word and see for yourself! Lastly, I want to mention that I really enjoyed the ambiance. The music wasn't blasting (my preference for an enjoyable meal with or without kids). There was no wait but the restaurant was 75% full. I hope it always stays this way. The ambience of this place is great. I love what they did with the space. The menu is impressively extensive. There are pages and pages of things to order and I was extremely excited about the selection. We ordered the udon and combined it with tempura and California rolls. We also got two speciality dishes and the presentation was great. However this sushi is mainly driven by the sauces they use and not the tenderness of their fish. I'm going to come back to try this place out as it's still new and things could change. We visited Heemo, Tustin yesterday for the first time. We live in Tustin. We have eaten at Heemo, Orange many times and love it. It's definitely a different vibe than Orange. It's not quite as "party" as the Orange store, but just as good, if not better!! We all loved it! The service was great!! The food was over the top delicious and beautiful, and the ambiance was perfect! We ordered the Fish & Chips (all of us picked for our favorite), the Heemo Super Roll, the Yellow Tail Yuzu roll, and the King Salmon roll. They were all presented beautifully and were very fresh and flavorful!! We are so happy to have such an AMAZING sushi place 5 minutes from home! Oh, and also the pricing seems about average until you see the rolls. They are huge!! So, order accordingly. I've come to Heemo a few times now and I've gotten a chance to try most of the menu. I normally come with my family and the kids normally get a chicken teriyaki with rice, waffle fries, and an apple juice for $9. The kids are happy with the portions and I'm happy that have enough to eat without having to order more. My wife and I normally get a small sashimi platter which has generous cuts of fish that are high quality. I think salmon and yellowtail are the best, but everyone has their own preferences.
