The portions were large but flavor wasn't there. They also forgot the noodles for the Lo Mein when they delivered it and had to redeliver. Egg rolls were WONDERFUL! I was sooo happy! Food arrived piping hot yet again. In addition to the egg rolls, we had the chicken and broccoli with baby corn and sweet & sour chicken. We just moved from Wicker Park to Roscoe Village and we had to find a new Chinese restaurant, so we decided to try Plenty. It was very good! It arrived a half hour earlier than the estimated time and my soup was still hot enough that I had to wait for it to cool down to eat. I had the general tso chicken and it had great flavor and was nice and spicy with fresh veggies. I ordered through grub hub and we spent enough to get free chicken fried rice which was ok. My boyfriend loved his Mongolian Beef and his son really enjoyed his sweet and sour chicken. Will order again! read more

This is a perfectly decent local Americanized Chinese restaurant, but I can't imagine anyone going out of their way to eat here. The food is perfectly acceptable, at least as far as the main courses go, but it's no better than tons of other places. It's almost as if they all prepare their food off of the same basic cookbook entitled "Mediocre Chinese Take-Out Cooking 101." What shocks me is the number of reviews that praise Plenty's egg rolls. These are easily the worst I've ever had in Chicago, and in several other cities besides. I wouldn't even bother ordering this appetizer at a real Chinese restaurant, but it's usually a good bet at a place like this. Sadly, I was wrong. Plenty's egg rolls are bland, are totally lacking in any vegetable content, and are definitely, in the description of another reviewer, "mushy." If I lived nearby I'd certainly get carryout from Plenty on occasion, but I'd never consider it as more than a last-minute option. read more

When I don't feel like driving to Chinatown, this is my favorite stop on the North side. I too will co-sign on the quality of their Crab Rangoon. Hunan shrimp is tasty and I also fancy the Moo Goo Gai Pan when you're not starving. I've never had their delivery service and I typically see a lot of walk-in "to go" traffic any time I eat there. Good food and a friendly staff to make you feel comfortable. I love the big mug of tea that comes in a variety of choices. There are only a few tables, so I'd at least recommend the courtesy of a call if you want to bring more than 3 friends with you. Maybe I've been spoiled by the crab rangoon I've been getting at a thai place in my hometown since I was 13 (Cida Thai in Countryside, IL...amazing), but I just have never been able to find crab rangoon as good anywhere else. The crab rangoon from Plenty was downright not good. Super creamy and thick, with an over-abundance of crab and very little zing. The General Tso's chicken and Orange Chicken were good. The beef and broccoli was actually quite excellent, which I wasn't really expecting. If I'm cat-sitting in the area again, I'll probably order from Plenty again, but skip the crab rangoon and stick with the main dishes. When I first heard about this place, I was assured that the name was descriptive of how much food you get. I can't argue with that, you get plenty at Plenty. Once again, this is a "within walking distance" joint from my office - but barely. So the fact that quite a few of the peeps make this trek at least once a week testifies to the solid nature of the food. I like the food, it's consistently tasty, and I've never had a bad experience (I'm reading all these crab rangoon comments - those have onions, so I skip 'em!). I also don't eat the egg rolls (never care for them much out here - they just seem different back in CA). Have I reccomended this place before? yes. Have some people enjoyed it? Yes. Solid and affordable. The food is consistent and quite good. Remember, it is a fast food takeaway Chinese place. I've been eating Chinese every Saturday since I can remember. I was not able to eat through their food. Simply disgusting. No one could. Beef and Brocc tastes like just starch and the sauce had a consistency thicker than yogurt. Rice was salty beyond repair, orange chicken just tasted different. If your favorite dishes are beef dishes, this is not a good place for that. To their credit, though, my partner in crime said their chicken dish was full of crispy goodness. The beef, however, is cut waaaay too thick and the green peppers in my beef and pepper dish were not even cooked thoroughly (too much crunch). Another downside was the lack of sauce in the dish, aiding into a lack of flavor. The bit of sauce that was on the beef/peppers was really tasty so it would've been much better if there was more. In the end, I probably won't be ordering from them again but if you like other dishes besides beef dishes, this is a good place for that. Orange Chicken: Despite the copious amount of sauce in the container, chicken was extremely dry. 2/10 Fried Rice: Good but nothing to write home about. 7/10 Kung Pao Chicken: Good but again, drenched in too much sauce. 7.5/10 Lo Mein Noodles: Best dish of the meal. Good sauce, ample veggies cooked just right. Can't tell if we loved them b/c everything else either sucked or was sub-par. 8/10 Egg Roll: Nothing special. 6/10 In all: Pros: Great portion sizes. Good veggie quantity and variety in the Lo Mein. Cons: Way too much sauce on every dish. All were SWIMMING in sauce, but not in a good way. The food is by no means the best, let's be honest. Even for Americanized Chinese, it's mediocre. That said, it's really not bad. The price is very good, especially considering the portion sizes, you're going to have leftovers (hence the name of the place?). The delivery is scary quick. Go with the lunch/dinner specials. Meats are always tasty. The fried rice isn't that bad. Lo mein and other noodle dishes, proceed with caution. Peanut in the egg rolls is really great. I will say that flavor overall is somewhat lacking, but they send soy sauce, so it kinda works out. After a long, long day of work and mountains of stress, I forced my boyfriend to find a place where we could order some Chinese for delivery. He found Plenty and boy was that the best discovery we've made in a while. We ordered Crab Rangoon and a small orange chicken and a small sweet and sour chicken. First, they arrive within 15 minutes of our order on Seamless. Now, we live close, but this was still a shock. The food was warm and I devoured a crab Rangoon. It was delicious and just what my boyfriend loves (he hates when there's lots of obvious vegetables mixed in). Both chickens were delicious. The pot stickers were good, both the wife and I liked them (which is rare), though she wasn't a fan of their pot sticker sauce.. go figure. Crab Rangoon was where it's at..! Nice balance of flavor to cheese. Egg rolls were very good as well, though so big I could only manage to eat one. I tried their Beijing Beef and it was great! A bit peppery, but overall very good flavor, not too hot, and not overly-lathered in sauce. I will definitely order that again. We had a coupon for a free General Tso's chicken.. that was pretty meh. Not the best quality chicken, and tasted more like soggy-fried-randomness. It was free, so no issue there, I just think next time I'd use a different coupon. Something to keep in mind if you're considering ordering a fried meat dish. We also ordered a small Szechuan chicken and a small spicy garlic shrimp just to test them out, and we ended up with two of what I assume were the Szechuan chicken. No shrimp to be found, so minus one star for not getting the order right. Regardless, the Szechuan chicken was just OK. There wasn't much to it, just kind of peppery chicken with a small amount of sauce. That's a definite skip for next time. I wish I had better things to say, as the gentleman working the counter was very friendly... but I don't. We ordered potstickers, chicken fried rice, General Tso's chicken and all were disappointing at best. The potstickers were very doughy, which might have been a good thing had the filling been tasty. Unfortunately filling was bland so the whole thing didn't taste like much but unseasoned dough. The chicken fried rice was ok at best. I honestly cannot think of anything good or bad to say about it. Finally the General Tso's, which was the ultimate disappointment. It tasted like no G.T. that I've ever had. It just was strange, not spicy at all. A little smoky tasting. After we ate (and there were a lot of leftovers) and cleaned up, an hour later I noticed that my house smelled strange. Almost like something had burned.
