A solid brunch spot nearby dolores park, and there wasn't any wait on a Saturday morning around 11. By the time we left after noon it was full! The dishes are a bit more pricey compared to other brunch (both our dishes were $25) but the portions are really good! We did an eggs benedict and red velvet waffle fried chicken combo. Great brunch spot with all the classics, service could do better. We called in advance to check on the wait times and by 12 PM apparently the line had just cleared up. We came in around 1:20 and they informed us we had 10 mins to order and handed us the menus. They seemed to be in quite a rush and were sort of rude in managing the people waiting to be seated. We ended up getting seated outside on the tiny tables along the sidewalk around the corner. There was live music across the street which I usually enjoy but it seemed a little too loud and discordant - do not recommend sitting here if this is a hangover brunch. Food was great. Very generous portions I'd even suggest sharing if you don't want leftovers. The lobster roll however I'd pass on the next time - I've had better and this one was mayo/egg salad flavor heavy. I've stopped by Plain Jane twice since living in the city. The first time was last year with a friend visiting from Seattle and the second time was earlier this morning with a friend from college. The restaurant is very nice with a bar area, a main dining area, and outdoor seating as well. Depending on the day/ time I've seen it get pretty crowded. The two times I've gone were on weekdays though and it was fairly quiet. Food selection is pretty varied with a mixture of traditional American breakfast fare, Asian influence/ inspired food, and more. The two dishes I've had are the following Smoked Duck Breast w/ Quince Hash : Hearty breakfast plate with a lot of solid flavors. Chilaquiles Verdes: Solid take on Chilaquiles - I found the plate to have a little too much avocado (which I didn't think was possible). But overall it was really good - the pulled pork was perfectly seasoned and the sauce that the tortilla chips was cooked in was good. My only gripe if anything is that they don't have a lot of savory vegetarian friendly items and they don't do substitutions. It's one of the only reasons I haven't brought my girlfriend here (the sweeter items are vegetarian but neither of us have much of a breakfast sweet tooth). That aside, Plain Jane is a consistently good Breakfast/ Brunch spot in the Mission with fun takes on classic brunch food and friendly service. It was falling apart as you try to dig in with the fork. The fries did not taste fresh. It was already hard when I got it and I was not able to eat the whole thing while waiting for my meal. I did not take the pancake home and I felt like it was such a waste of money. The only thing I enjoyed was the mango mimosa. So disappointed with the service but I could forgive that. My boyfriend got the duck hash and my father got the eggs benedict, which they both thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the french toast so much! It was soft, eggy, crisped on the outside, and covered in sweet fresh fruit. The bread was super thick but not too dense and chewy. The thickness of the cut really enhanced the eating experience and was by far my favorite dish of the meal. The red velvet pancakes were also good, but not as fluffy as I would have liked. I did try a bit of the cottage cheese pancakes and those were much more fluffy without losing their substance. I also tried some of the eggs benedict which were great but didn't rise to the heights of their sweet breakfast items. I appreciated how generous they were with their toppings for all our dishes. The drinks looked interesting but the pistachio latte we tried was very light and more old school with a very bubbly milk foam. Not particularly silky or warm. If I had to choose one item, I'd recommend splitting the sweet flight with a friend so you get to try all three at a more economical price. Overall, a great brunch spot to hit when in the city!
