Zero seating and you're stand up eating both inside and outside. Given the popularity, it makes it very crowded, and very unpleasant.

Worth the hype! Absolutely insane calzone... That was our must order!!!…read more The pizza is also incredible - you have to try. We had a pizza + a calzone and for 2-3 people this is enough. Reservations were tough (stand in line and then they'll tell you what time to come back) and we got an 830 res. Still one of my favorite pizzas!

Standard-Issue Nostalgia with a Side of Rushed Hospitality…read more If you enjoy paying in time rather than digital convenience, Lucali's reservation process is a masterclass in performative nostalgia. Arriving at 2 PM to stand in a line for two hours just to get on a list for a 7 PM seating doesn't make the place feel exclusive, it makes it feel like a punishment. But hey, we got a table, so the sacrifice was supposed to be worth it. It wasn't. Lucali is BYOB, which is fine in theory. My party brought two bottles of prosecco, fully prepared for a cozy, rustic evening. The server kindly offered to pop the first bottle, then brought out our glassware: heavy, standard water glasses, fresh out of the commercial dishwasher and literally piping hot. There is a special kind of absurdity in pouring crisp, ice-cold prosecco into a glass that feels like it was just pulled from the depths of hell. To top it off, nobody offered to keep our second bottle chilled. Minor detail, sure, but for a place with this level of cult status, the low-effort service immediately set the tone. To give credit where it's due, the ambiance is legitimately cool. It's dimly lit, atmospheric, and feels like step-back-in-time Brooklyn kitchen. Watching the pizza makers roll out dough using empty wine bottles before shoving them into the roaring brick oven gives off that warm, "Nonna's kitchen" charm. You want to love it. Then the food arrives, and the illusion shatters. Our server gave us the bare minimum rundown: "We have pizza, calzones, and tonight's special pasta." Zero detail, zero enthusiasm. We ordered the pizza and the calzone. The pizza was... fine. Completely fine. But calling this the best pizza in New York feels like collective mass delusion. If you've been to L'Industrie or Mama's Too, Lucali isn't even in the same stratosphere. Then came the calzone, which was allegedly stuffed with five cheeses. The server proudly named four, withholding the fifth as a "secret ingredient." A mystery cheese angle might be fun if the calzone blew your mind, but by the time I took a bite, the gimmick just felt tired. It was a perfectly average calzone wrapped in high-end gatekeeping. The grand finale, however, was the absolute kicker. Just under an hour into our meal, after overhearing the hostess realize she'd botched the table rotation, our server came over with an update: they had overbooked and needed our table. Her gracious solution? "You're welcome to pour the rest of your prosecco into your glasses and finish it outside!" The remaining, warm, prosecco that is... Let's recap the math: two hours waiting on a sidewalk at 2 PM, five hours of waiting for the reservation time, warm glasses for cold bubbles, middle-of-the-road pizza, and a boot out the door in under sixty minutes because they messed up their own seating chart. Disgraceful hospitality masked as old-school Brooklyn charm. If you love mediocre food, lukewarm prosecco in burning hot glassware, and being rushed out to the curb, Lucali is waiting for you. As for me, I won't be back.

They said it didn't come with pepperoni, but the owner was sitting there like "you know what since you asked for it we'll do it for you." It's like I was heaven and was told Ask and you shall receive, we just want you to be happy! Now, I don't know what sort of crack cocaine they put in this Knicks pizza but it had vodka sauce and ricotta, hot honey olive oil and I think a pesto drizzle. Oh my Jesus Christ this was the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life. Savory, a lil sweet, saucy. Lisa was right, don't need ranch for this at all. Also loved the white pie. I'm so sad because I had to leave New York the next day but days later I am still thinking about this pizza. About 30 minutes after we had ordered, I asked our waiter where our food was. He apologized and admitted that he had forgotten to put the order in. By that point, we had already watched other tables receive their food, including people who had arrived well after us. We continued waiting, and after roughly 40 minutes or more, our food still had not arrived. At that point, the dining experience was already ruined and we decided to leave. Ironically, just as we were getting ready to go, the food finally started coming out. I told them we no longer wanted it. The waiter did apologize again and offered us a pizza to take with us, which I assume was complimentary, but by then we were simply ready to leave. Even paying the bill became unnecessarily drawn out. We were charged the full amount for the salad, beer, and wine. I sat with a $50 bill ready to pay, was handed the check, and then ended up standing around for another five minutes waiting for someone to actually take the money. There was no apology from the person handling the payment. I understand that mistakes happen, and I appreciated that our waiter admitted he had forgotten to place the order. But when a restaurant makes that kind of mistake, the recovery matters. After waiting that long, watching later-arriving customers get served, and then having difficulty simply paying and leaving, an apology and a pizza at the very end didn't really fix the experience. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I can't say the service lived up to the restaurant's reputation.

Brooklyn DOP

Got a TGTG order here. 11/10 I'd do it again…read more Brooklyn DOP actually originated as a pandemic business where my friend's personal trainer started baking pizzas outside of his Greenwood Heights apartment. When the hype got large enough, the owner decided to start a pizzeria and the rest is not history. This is one of the more worthwhile TGTG orders to me. Their pizza is SOOO perfectly crisp and charred, and actually is one of the closest pizzas that reminds me of the famous originals in Napoli.

Brooklyn DOP is a prime example of what happens when a pandemic lockdown, a dough obsession, and an…read moreinability to sit still all collide. We visited as a stop on Scott's Pizza Bus Tour, which meant we were actively evaluating it against some of the best pizza in the city. Evaluating pizza on a tour is tricky because excellence becomes relative when you are eating multiple high-end pies in a single afternoon. According to Scott, Brooklyn DOP began in founder Thomas Ardito's apartment during the 2020 lockdowns. With his primary work on pause, he started baking pizza and selling pies through Instagram to pay his rent. People kept ordering. His friend Jason D'Amelio joined the effort, and what started as an apartment project turned into pop-ups and eventually a brick-and-mortar shop on 5th Avenue in Park Slope. That is a considerably more compelling origin story than a corporate franchise business plan. The setup in Park Slope includes a quiet back courtyard, which offered a comfortable spot for our group to sit, eat, and recover between stops. It feels relaxed and distinctly Brooklyn without trying too hard to remind you where you are. The pizza itself is very good. The crust strikes a proper balance between a crisp bottom and a chewy interior. The toppings are handled with care, from the crushed tomatoes to the fresh mozzarella. This is dough crafted by people who take fermentation seriously rather than relying on pre-packaged shortcuts. On its own merits, the pizza is a solid 4.5 stars. Unfortunately for Brooklyn DOP, it was competing on a tour against places operating on another plane. It is an excellent pie, but it was not the single slice that caused the entire tour to fall silent in collective awe. Still, that is an aggressive standard to hold against any local shop. Brooklyn DOP offers a great courtyard, a serious approach to dough, and a standout product. Landing just shy of five stars says far more about the sheer volume of elite pizza we ate that day than it does about the shop itself. Four stars. And if you are not spending the afternoon riding around New York with Scott Wiener eating pizza at some of the finest pizza joints the 5 boroughs have to offer, you can probably bump that half-star back up.

Hidden Gem with a Slice That Stands Out Pizza Daddy is one of those rare hidden gems you remember fondly. It's tucked away just enough to feel peaceful -- definitely not your typical busy NYC pizza spot. It gives off more of a calm, almost small-town vibe, which I find really refreshing in the middle of the city. The owners are always friendly and welcoming, and there's a nice little counter up front where you can sit and eat. On a sunny day, the light pours in and it's the perfect place to just relax with your slice. Now about the pizza -- I've got to rave about this one particular slice. It's square, thick-crust, focaccia-style, topped with fresh chopped tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and melted mozzarella (maybe even some red onion and herbs in there). The flavors are bright, savory, and have that slightly tangy, garlicky finish that just hits right. It's crispy on the bottom, soft inside -- exactly how you want it. I don't know the name of it, but if you see it, get it. It's seriously one of the best slices I've had. Honestly? It's better than most pizza joints in NYC. Definitely above average, especially for this style -- and it's the kind of option you won't find at a typical corner slice shop. Overall: Friendly people, chill vibes, great space to sit and eat, and a slice that's full of flavor and texture. Highly recommend checking this place out -- it's a real NYC hidden gem. read more

Everyone has a right to his or her opinion...... But, I have to say something about an incident that occurred at Pizza Daddy. I am FLOORED by the number of people who just let their children run around in public places; like restaurants totally unsupervised...then go on Yelp and write a complaint about the terrible service. Why.... because someone asked you nicely, not to have your child put their feet all over a cushioned chair? We have a 2 year old and a 3 year old, and when we go out to public places, We make sure our children do not run around like its a park. If you want your children to stand, step on furniture in your home, or run around and put finger prints all over glass with their greasy fingers, that's fine, its your home. If you're going to rate a place for its food, and pizza, then Pizza Daddy is a 4 star place. If you want your kids to bounce around, take them to those kiddie places, not a restaurant! read more

They are open until 1 in the morning on weekdays, and even later on the weekends. The pie I ordered was great. They listened and didn't miss a beat with my toppings. Tasty slices. Buffalo wings were the dry heat kind, not the saucy kind. I happen to prefer saucy wings but these were good and still hit the spot for me. Not a big deal - everyone's preferences are different. Chicken roll could've had more meat in it, but was ok nonetheless. I ordered for delivery so can't speak to the ambiance. Will say the service was good, they were amazing on the phone, and they came right on time as promised. Glad I found the Pizza Den. FYI TIP This spot is cash only
