Unfortunately this was by far the WORST chicken Marsala I ever had. It was extremely watery with barely any flavor at all. The owner was nice enough to remake one for me but the second round really wasn't much better. I really wanted to love this place because the staff there were so nice, but I had never tasted such a horrible version of chicken Marsala before...it literally tasted like boiled chicken in flavorless soup...you can literally see how watery it was in the picture. Long standing pizza joint on cusp of Dyker Heights in Brooklyn that continues to serve a solid slice. The establishment itself is nothing to look at but obviously not the driver to visit. For our very 1st dining-in restaurant experience, we were encouraged and welcomed by the staff on a cold Friday afternoon to eat inside. My son loved the classic nostalgic booths, and slid in without much convincing. He was memorized by watching the guys flip and throw pizzas, and the ins and outs of the busy kitchen. Inside was clean and reminded me of my carefree childhood. It was comforting, warm, and smelled delicious. Nothing like eating a slice straight away from the oven and not having it sit in a box for a half hour or more. One of my absolute favorites!!! This pizzeria is a gem!! I am always looking for the best penne alla vodka, and this place has it!! The sauce is perfect - creamy, balanced, and delicious. I get it with the grilled chicken. It HAS to be grilled!! It's sooooooo good, as if it just came off the grill at a family BBQ. Perfectly seasoned. Along with pasta, they add the perfect complimentary bread. Great portions. They really care about their customers. One time my order did not make it to my house in good condition because of a third-party delivery service. The manager called to apologize. Was just back to Maria's today. I had a Sicilian and a Margarita slice with a drink and it filled me up for just $7.50. It's not really a Margarita but that is what they call it. Both VERY good. The crust on their pizzas are unlike what I've had anywhere else. It's very good and it's crisp without being overcooked. I haven't tried anything else they make but their pizza gets 5 stars from me. I forgot my phone at home so I couldn't take any pics but I will make sure I have it the next time I go. Also, the staff a very friendly! That is always a plus when you go somewhere to eat. In Brooklyn, there's a pizzeria on every block. They all have the same menu. Some don't stand out looks-wise. If you're going to go to any of them, make sure it's Maria's. This place has the best vodka sauce you've ever had in your life, hands down. I promise. Don't walk past it, you'll regret it. Order the penne a la vodka with grilled chicken and it'll be the best decision you've ever made. You'll eat it for 6 days or be able to feed a medium sized Croatian army since the portion size is MASSIVE. I'm cheap, and if it was $30, I'd order it. It also matters that it's a family-owned small business of first generation immigrants who busted their tails and gave up their previous life to make it work. Their pizza crust is rolled in panko and finished off in the oven which gives it a crunchier and more textured crust. Shocking, I know. Beside the fact that everything had a really off putting smell to it, the cheese is obviously very low quality and rubbery. The slices were extremely bland. I had a bite of each item and threw it out. It has food poisoning written all over it. The mozzarella sticks were standard. Frozen but really salty and even saltier with the tomato-water mixture that I'm guessing was supposed to be marinara sauce? I tried to call the place twice, no answer. I'll be disputing the charge. At some point it became too much, so I gave them a call, and rude is very mild of the term of that conversation. The pizza here is great and the staff is very friendly. The owners are lookers, too. But the catered food is absolutely top notch. They make the best minestrone soup I've ever had and their fettuccini Alfredo is rich without being over the top and heavy. Delivery usually takes about 45 minutes which is fine. Great food, great people, great atmosphere (although the pictures on the walls need updating). Definitely go there AND order your next meal office lunch from there. Then I decided to order it again, I ordered a baby pepperoni pizza ($14.25 after tax and delivery fee) when it came it was really cold and the crust was hard and greasy. I got their "homemade fries" and it was soaked in oil and when fries bend over it means its not good, if I had sour cream and bacon, I could have made loaded baked potato. This place hasn't changed since my mother used it as her teenage hangout...or since I would meet my friends there for a slice...and the reason why is because there's just no need. I thought about it this weekend when I was waiting for them to heat up a slice of the most perfect plain pie...nothing else is needed and they don't even need to bother remodeling the place because it won't change anything. Coming here is like stepping through a time warp. Old orange benches and fake paneling on the walls... This is the kind of pizza you see in the movies where the slices are so big that when you fold them in half, they look like a "normal" size. The crust is on the thin side, but not so barely there like a typical trendy "thin crust" pizza. Their Sicilian pizza is really good too - doughy and cheesy, like you'd expect it to be. Also, their Italian ices are PERFECT. I haven't been able to find anything even resembling them in Boston. Here, they call such things "slush" and they're more grainy and crunchy - not smooth like an Italian ice ought to be. HEAVEN! read more
