Pillow talk, I love pillow talk, I love the name, but I don't like their drinks. It's a warm afternoon in SGV and I was hoping to get something refreshing, I wouldn't mind just plain iced tea of any kind but... The only non-caffeine drinks here are free water, Sparkling beverage and Dirty Matcha (minus coffee). I used to be a heavy coffee drinker but quit for some health reasons. I basically got an iced matcha latte. Asked for no sugar but it's still sweet that means they use matcha powder that's already sweetened, like Starbucks, instead making matcha from scratch. Also tried Pineapple Americano, it's one of the worst drink creation one could possibly created :XD For dessert, we shared 4 dessert set $26 with Yelp Check in (you can pick any flavor you want and here's our pick: Oreo, Tiramisu, Pink lover and Mango). All were decent, fresh and not overly sweet but nothing really stood out perhaps for me it's just slightly better than 85c. The portion is quite big and we couldn't finish them all. ($7 or $8 each if you buy individually). I would recommend two people share just one unless you are eating dessert as a meal. Street meter parking is available but its $1 per hour with 1 hour limit and you know time flies when you are pillow talking with friends. read more

After experiencing this Pillow Talk, next time I'll skip and go straight to bed. I was visually seduced after many of my Yelp friends posted photos of their experience at Pillow Talk so I wanted to check them out myself. My friend and I made it to Pasadena about half an hour until closing and we were lucky there were still desserts in the display casing. We went with the deal they had for their dessert cakes: 4 for $26, instead of the $7-8/each. This was a deal displayed at the store, but also the Yelp check-in deal. So not really a special exclusive deal for Yelpers only. It's just a deal in general to trick people into buying 4, when in reality they just need 1 or 2. The following were our choices due to availability: Tiramisu - Probably the best of the four and the only one we cared to finish. Grape Earl Grey - The runner up... although I did not taste any grape as the name implies it should taste. Pink Lover - The description says raspberry, lychee and rose, but the raspberry was the only dominant flavor. That and excessive cream. Oreo - The worst of the bunch. The cake layer was so mushy in texture, it was not very cakey. Also the cream was like the cream of all the others. The cream could have tasted more sweet to match with what a real oreo tastes like. We also gave their signature lattes a try. My friend had the iced Honey Oat Latte ($5.95) and I had an Ice Tiramisu ($5.75). As a coffee lover, I feel like the taste of coffee was insufficient in both drinks. I was SO unsatisfied that I went to buy REAL coffee from Philz after drinking this stuff. Came here for the dessert, but I have yet to try it. We ended up studying here and ordering a latte and the egg sandwich. The facility is very clean and white with adequate seating. They have a few outlets by smaller tables and a restroom. The staff is friendly and the drink/food came out quickly. The egg sandwich was pretty and basically the size of 1 sandwich bread slice but cut into thirds. The egg salad was tasty but it didn't seem like anything overly special. The drink was also quality with good coffee beans. Desserts were on the pricier end and I will have to try them, and they come in a tin! WiFi was decent speed, but we were just too full at the time. Wanted something sweet and found this place on Yelp. Picked up 3 cakes in the cute little containers. I got a salted caramel oreo, taro, and salty yolk pork floss. The salted caramel oreo was very light as there is mousse in between small layers of cake. The only thing about this one is that the cake didn't take like oreo. It just tasted like chocolate cake. I also love that the cake isn't sweet, so you can actually eat the whole thing without feeling like you need a cup of milk. The Taro was very pretty and was also light and fluffy. The most interesting one is the salty yoke pork floss cake. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was actually really good. Everything came together very well, with a few layers of cake in there. Dessert time in Pasadena! Last night, we wanted to check out this Hot & New Business, but they close at 7pm... awww... So, today, we made it a point to visit Pillow Talk! We found street parking right in front of the shop! Yay! Inside, Pillow Talk is cute, clean, and bright! The soft music playing encourages a peaceful environment for studying or chatting! The convenient restroom is much appreciated! I got the Pineapple Americano which is pineapple juice with coffee. It's good for me because it's non-dairy! My friends got the 4 dessert special (tiramisu, oreo, mango, and Pink Lover - raspberry) for $26 which is available when you check in on your Yelp app. It sure looked good. A bit pricey but absolutely delicious! We ordered online and it was really quick and simple. We got: Egg Heaven - egg salad with soft boiled egg. This was a simple but delicious sandwich! I enjoyed it a lot. Okonomiyaki - bacon with a rolled egg with bonito. This sandwich was so flavorful and the bacon paired so well with the egg! Matcha yuzu cake: This was cake sounded really unique so we decided to try it out and it did not disappoint! The yuzu cream was on top with the matcha chiffon cake on the bottom and they both paired together so delicately. The cake was light and airy and the yuzu was just so flavorful! Overall the food was amazing here. My mother went to SoCal recently and brought the cakes back to me in the Bay. The cakes were very cute, definitely has that wow factor. I love the tin design and the flavors were definitely interesting. Matcha yuzu is def for matcha lovers, heavy matcha flavor. Earl grey with grapes was interesting. You can def taste the Earl grey and the grape adds a bit of sour flavor to the background. Cool combination. Tiramisu is as expected - pretty good if you like tiramisu. Chestnut I think was more cakey than others. The others had a more mousse base. Chestnut was actly kinda more.... Savory? Shared the four course dessert special with friends (also fellow Yelpers) - Oreo, Mango, Tiramisu and Raspberry. They're served in tins and the price seems to be in line with other dessert shops if you compare the portion sizes. I liked all except the Mango. It wasn't bad but it didn't wow me - not that the others did - the flavor just seemed not quite there for my taste. I did order a drink - a dirty Matcha without coffee (hot). For someone who doesn't drink coffee, this place was okay. The interior was clean and modern - staff seemed nice however there wasn't a lot of interaction other than placing my order. Pillow Talk is an absolute Pasadena delight. In my personal opinion, this spot deserves way more recognition than it receives. My partner and I visited for the first time this week and had an amazing experience. It was just after noon on a weekday, so there was no wait time. We ordered an iced Honeycomb latte, an iced Honey Lavender latte, the Egg Heaven sandwich, the Tamagoyaki sandwich, and the Taro Ube tin cake. The quality of espresso here is so good, and I think the Honeycomb latte I got may be my favorite latte in all of Pasadena. The honeycomb on top is absolutely delicious. I would drink this latte every single day if I could. The lavender latte is perfection too. It is just the right amount of lavender and is balanced well with the honey. The sandwiches were so yummy and the portion size is very generous. Both my husband and I had leftovers. It is hard to say which sandwich I liked better. If you are an egg lover, these sandwiches are a must try. The Taro Ube cake was so light and refreshing. It has a very subtle sweetness. I will say it's not too strong on the Taro and Ube flavors, but it is still really good. I just wish I could taste the flavors a bit more. I really want to come back and try some of the fruit cakes as well. The staff were pleasant. I wouldn't say they were overly friendly, but the barista was helpful and given how good the food and drinks were, I wouldn't deduct a star for it. I do very much recommend this spot, and I can't wait to come back especially for the Honeycomb latte. I definitely gravitate towards dessert shops and boba places, so when I saw a new dessert shop that opened up in Pasadena, I was super excited to give them a try. This new shop is located on Lake Avenue, close to T-Pumps and Nothing Bundt Cakes. There's minimal (paid) parking in front of the store, so I recommend parking in the 90 minute free lots and walking over to Pillow Talk if it's not too hot. The storefront is super cute and very minimalistic. Lots of whites/blacks with clean spaces. There are several tables inside to allow for customers to sit and enjoy their selections while studying or chatting with a friend. Display case isn't too overwhelming either, with several selections of their desserts offered behind the glass along with a description of what is inside each item. As of now, there are four desserts that they offer - Oreo Lover, Pink Lover, Tiramisu, and Mango Mango. The desserts range from $7-8 and are served in a cute aluminum tin can that allows for easy transportation. I ended up trying the Tiramisu and the Mango Mango - both of which I really enjoyed. I have to say that I liked the Tiramisu ($7) more because the flavors weren't too sweet, yet the flavors were traditional while the inside of the dessert was made in a unique way. There's a coffee jelly in the middle along with mascarpone cream and a coffee cocoa cream - everything worked really well together; I was surprised how much I enjoyed this dessert as it was light yet super tasty. The Mango Mango ($8) has fresh mangos cut up on top of a coconut mousse, mango jelly layer, and chiffon cake on bottom. I was debating on this one versus the Pink Lover, but ultimately went with Mango as the flavors seemed more stable as compared to the floral fragrances that were found in their Raspberry dessert. This mousse was super tasty - I liked the surprising layer of chiffon cake at the bottom; it was still slightly crunchy, giving the mousse an extra crunch that made each bite stand out. I did enjoy the super sweet mango chunks at the top of the dessert. For $8, the dessert is on the pricier side as the flavors are very standard from what you'd expect in any mango cake/dessert. Pillow Talk also has an assortment of drinks (coffee, lattes, etc.) as well as pastries and sandwiches. Sandwiches can be made to order throughout the day. tl;dr - Definitely was intrigued and delighted by the desserts that I tried at Pillow Talk. I really enjoyed the lightness of the desserts despite the big flavor that came with each bite. Will be back to try some of their other items and get a sandwich or drink as well! read more

Very cute spot to chill and get some food! Black, white, and brown colors with green accents make the place aesthetically pleasing and minimalistic. I have always wanted to try the Japanese-style sando and the tamagoyaki sando ($8) was so yummy. The warm, fluffy egg really hit the spot and instantly made me feel energized. It's paired with a dashi, mustard, mayo spread that adds a bit of savory sweetness to the toast. (5/5) It would be a great breakfast/lunch food. We also ordered the Pink Lover ($8) dessert. It is so cute and has sugar dusted raspberries on top. I liked how it wasn't too sweet and had a bit of tartness to each bite. It reminds me of a soft pillowy cheesecake with a layer of lychee flavored jelly sandwiched in-between. Pillow Talk has been on my radar for a while, so you can imagine how happy I was that COVID didn't make them close down. I was in the area and I wanted to treat myself to some of their tin cakes. But unfortunately they were out of the "pink lover" on a Saturday afternoon. I'm guessing that cake sells out quickly. However, I didn't leave empty handed. I decide to try their okonomiyaki and egg heaven sandwiches. I love konbi sandwiches and I'm curious to try other people's take on it. The wait was about 15min long. Note: the cafe is really tiny - I suggest you wait outside to avoid contact with other folks. I didn't mind the wait, considering that they were making my order on the spot. Once they came out, they were nice and warm. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of it. Egg heaven was my favorite of the two. For both, the bread was so soft and fluffy. I imagine that they also make their own loaves? Portion size are pretty small but packed fill with flavor. I think they're worth the try. But I wouldn't count on it to fill you up for dinner. Ordered the pork floss cake and the mentaiko egg sandwich Pork floss cake: This was 5/5. The salted yolk custard isn't too overpowering (so extreme salted yolk lovers be warned...), and pairs perfectly with the pork floss and soft chiffon cake. Mentaiko: I personally am not a fan of the cheese inside. The egg is very fluffy and it was obviously very fresh. I wish that there was a little more mentaiko in the sandwich. Both times they've run out on some of the flavors I selected which I understand because I never pre ordered, it was just a spur of the moment. Everyone I shared the cakes with really enjoyed the different flavors. We ordered these for a total of $44: -Two Egg Heavens ($10 each): This was good, but really something you can easily make at home for probably $3. It's a giant egg salad with hard boiled egg sandwich cut into three parts. Again, good but simple and not worth $10. -Pomelo Mango cake ($8): YUM. The mango part is like a jello, so light and airy and there is a slightly thicker cake at the very bottom which is so good. The pomelo adds texture and tang with each bite. Worth it! -Dirty Matcha Latte ($5.75) and Honey Oat Latte ($5.95): Both of these were so sweet and strong. I don't drink coffee much, so my Honey Oat Latte had me jumping OFF THE WALLS afterwards. Such a cute recommended hot and new place that popped up on my suggestions. I happened to be in the area and was ready for lunch. I found street parking in front and there's a machine to pay for up to an hour. The place is bright and clean and the staff was friendly and helpful, ready to answer any questions about the food. The desserts in the case all looked so pretty it was hard to choose. I chose the egg heaven sandwich and the earl grey and grape mousse cream cake. They brought the cake out right away and it was so light, creamy, and with bits of grape. The sandwich came out soon after in a cute box. Brought it for a friend's picnic at a park and it was the perfect little cake for sharing and pictures (; The mango or Oreo were my fav, and my husband liked the matcha (good quality matcha). It is slightly hidden since there's usually a long line at the next store over (bobaholics everywhere...), but Pillow Talk will lure you in with its minimalism design. They have interesting sando (Japanese sandwich) options, and well decorated dessert options. Of course, as most cafe do, they also have a simple drink menu offering typical coffee shop drinks. My friend and I each got one of their dessert. I got the oreo cake and my friend got the tiramisu. I really liked the oreo cake, and thought that the sponge cake in the middle was light enough to balance the oreo cream. However, it is more on the expensive side (well, this is Pasadena afterall). If you come with a larger party, they have a dessert set where you get 4 different kinds for $26. It is not a bad deal if you have enough people coming. I got the grapefruit one. $8 is pricey for one so I recommend using the yelp check in deal for 4 at $26. The sandwiches are *just okay*. My table tried most of the menu. They leave the bread crusts on and the bread itself could be softer. The tamago sandwich lacked the slightly sweet dashi flavor. The egg salad and okonomoyaki ones were my favorite. I personally liked the okonomiyaki more because it was more flavorful, but the egg heaven was really good too, especially if you prefer something a little less salty. The desserts were also phenomenal. They weren't just sweet, but very strong in lychee, mango, or matcha flavor. There wasn't too much cream, and the texture was perfectly soft and smooth. They just cap the cakes if you get them to-go, since they all come in reusable jars you can keep. The sandwiches took a while to make though, and one came out cold (but still tasty). We also got the ice tiramisu and latte, which were very average, and also took a while to come out. The best part is that they're not overpriced just because they're pretty. Everything was fairly priced for the taste, quality, and aesthetic in my opinion. I probably won't get the drinks again, but I will definitely come back for sandwiches and cakes! read more

I visited Pillow Talk for dessert with a friend, and tried the sunny side up cake and lavender honey latte. The cake was a good amount smaller than I expected, but very cute and tasty! It was light and not too sweet, which was very nice. The tin it came in was also pretty and made taking the cake to go easy. Given the size, it was a little pricey ($8), but enjoyable nonetheless and very picturesque. The lavender in the lavender honey latte was easy to taste and the drink overall was very refreshing. I got the latte at normal sweetness and found it a little too sweet for my liking, so I would recommend adjusting the sweetness lower. The drink was pretty large, so I'd say it was definitely worth the price ($5.75). I loved the decor of the store - the inside is so aesthetic, from the cake display at the counter to the seating area to the cute wall design near the entrance. Tables were promptly cleaned when customers left, and staff was friendly and helpful as well. I also loved the ambience of the shop - it had a very comforting feel and was pretty quiet, making it good for doing work or a casual hangout. Overall, I enjoyed my visit to Pillow Talk and would come back for their drinks and to try their sandwiches!
