Do you like tarts? Maybe Asian inspired flavored tarts? Or maybe an option for anyone that's indecisive with choosing a flavor. This is at least why I visited Pinecone Bakeshop, specifically for their mini tart flight. It is a small shop located in downtown Alhambra. It was very busy at around 11 AM when I went on the weekend. There were limited seatings and was able to get one as a group was leaving. If you are ordering and going with just the flights then the takeout experience is a bit quicker. I did order a latte that did take a few minutes for them to get ready. Within the flight, the flavors I tried were the banana miso, mixed berry, peach earl grey, fig oolong, and passion fruit. My top 2 flavors were the banana miso and fig oolong tarts. The mixed berry felt like a good standard one but it was basic and a flavor you'd expect. The peach oolong was okay but didn't stand out compared to the others. The passion fruit was just very far from my favorite. I'd also skip on the latte and stick with the tarts for next time. I'd most definitely get a full size banana miso and fig oolong one and try any newer flavors!

    Excited to try this place.

Pinecone bake shop serve hand craft fruit tarts with Asian fusion that are a must try. I would say the quality is Michelin star worthy in terms of the flavor and craftsmanship. The tarts are definitely on the pricey side at around 13 to 14 dollars a piece. They do have very distinct and tasty options. The esthetic of the bakery is great. One of the best esthetics I've seen in a while and a definite standout. A place you will want to sit if you're fortunate enough to find a seat. Weekends it gets packed with a line out the door. I also had the matcha which was great quality also.

Really cute spot to visit but their prices are extremely steep. Mini tart flight seemed more worth for the price but when we saw them in person, they were literally the size of a American quarter.. We opted for the regular sized tart to try instead. Some of their flavors seem to rotate and you don't seem all flavors the day you visit. Their pastry tart shells were pretty dense, wished it was more buttery and light. Figgy Jin Xuan Oolong Tart -loved the oolong flavor, paired really well with the fig. Of course, not too sweet. Peach Earl Grey Tart -sounded so good but the peach gave an heavy note of floral that made it less favored. Earl Grey is pretty floral on its own, personally thought it was too overpowering. Farmer's Tan -no wow factor to the drink, it tasted like any other black tea you can brew at home topped with some milk. I expected some hint of savoriness from the maldon salt but it was absent.

Finding parking nearby isn't too hard. On a Saturday afternoon, they were pretty busy so you may have to wait outside for a few minutes to get in. Come early if youre looking to try a specific tart. All that was left was the peach flavor. The tarts were amazing and I would say its worth the $14-15. The crust is buttery, the oolong filling and whipped cream was light, airy and not too sweet. Beautifully decorated too! The peaches were sweet and easy to cut through. The shady matcha was good but didn't stand out to me. It was lightly sweet, not dessert like. The banana oat milk reminds me of the korean banana flavored milk but more subtle. Staff is also super sweet!

8/22/2026 First time here. MINI TART FLIGHT All the tarts in bite-sized minis. You can try each of their flavors in one bite! Banana Miso Caramel - Caramelly, large piece of banana on a mini tart does make it taste more banana-y. Tart shell was buttery and crumbly. Really good! Mixed Berry Tart - Good tartness and freshness of mixed berries, good vanilla pastry cream. Crumbly tart shell. It is what you'd expect from a mixed berry tart. Peach Earl Grey Tart - Very strong and good Earl Grey flavor, crumbly, buttery tart. Don't remember the peach flavor, as it is a mini tart that easily disappears as soon as you pop it in your mouth. I got the regular tart (4") as well and it does taste differently than the mini. Because the Earl Grey pastry cream, the tart shell and tge fresh peaches are in full sizes, you can taste them better together. It has bigger flavor too. Really enjoyed it and I will be repurchasing this tart again if they continue to make them! Passion Fruit Tart - Very good, strong passion fruit flavor. Very well balanced and delicious! I might get the full size next time! Figgy Jin Xuan Oolong Tart - This was yum! I loved the fresh fig as soon as I popped it in my mouth! Buttery tart was crumbly and delicious. Because it was a mini, I do not remember the oolong flavor in the cream. All the mini tarts were lightly sweetened, balanced and size was simply perfect to eat. You can easily pop one mini tart in your mouth, all bite sized and delicious! Recommend the Mini Tart Flight on your first visit! MATCHA CORTADO Got mine iced and it was really delicious! Lightly sweetened with simple syrup, but still so light, I'm not sure anything was added. Although milky, I got it whole milk, but the matcha shined through with a light bitterness and sweetness in the matcha. Still, in comparison to other matchas I've had, it is still on the lighter side when it comes to the strength of the matcha flavor. LATE SUMMER "TONIC" When I asked about Farmer's Tan, she said it is just milk tea. No strong flavors of orange. So I opted for the espresso tonic. The espresso was very smoky and acidic to a point of sourness. The smoky flavor overpowered anything else. The yuzu and passionfruit flavor was muddled, where you get a hint of those flavors and you can taste the citrus notes, but still, you cannot tell what fruits are added to it if no one told you what was in it. You can see the passionfruit seeds floating in the drink and it was pretty with the ombre orange shade. Nonetheless, I wouldn't recommend this drink. AMBIANCE + SEATS 5-6 tables for 2. Very cozy ambiance. Wooden chairs and tables, cozy lighting. Modern, yet cozy. There were outdoor seats too, but they were metal tables and chairs. Pop music playing in the background, but it was not loud. One unisex bathroom. Brand new and clean. CUSTOMER SERVICE There was only one person at the front register who took orders. She was friendly and helpful. She also came by my table later asking me what I thought of the tarts. I rarely get staff checking in when at dessert / coffee shops, so I was pleasantly surprised. LINES Came on a Saturday at 9:30am. There was no line, but slowly people started trickling in close and there was already a line a little past 10:00am. Come in as early as possible on weekends! LOCATION / PARKING Next to: Jumpin' Lobster, Yang's Kitchen. If you're lucky, you can find one of the two parking spots directly in front of Pinecone. It is a 24 min. parking spot. There are other 24 min. parking spots in the area. Not sure why it's only 24 mins. though. There are many free parking spots and street parking in the area, but be aware of the signs. There is one free parking lot next to Fried Music and Bon Appetea, which is a 2 hr. parking lot. Definitely returning! Loved the tarts, the ambiance and service.

Delicious but pricey. I would come back for a special occasion, or gifting purpose but not an everyday type of bakery store. My favorite was earl grey, because it had the most flavor. I would recommend trying the flight (5 mini tarts), so you know what to get for the next visit! Inside the shop is tiny but aesthetic, 3-4 seats, service is relatively fast.

So many bakeries are popping up in SGV area, making them hard to stand out. We go the assorted tarts, 5 for $16, to try the flavors. This is a great option so you don't have to commit to a whole flavor if you are unsure, but honestly I think it's a little overpriced. I'm not a banana fan, but the banana miso was one of my favorites. They also have a guava, , berry, peach, and passion fruit, the latter which was also good. The crust is good, and the flavors are all good, but I didn't find anything that sets them apart. I actually found that they do a good tonic, which is juice, espresso, and tonic water. This drink is definitely not for everyone, but as far as one goes, not bad (it's a little on the juicier side, in a good way). This place is a casual coffee and dessert shop, and they don't have much indoor seating, unfortunately. Service was just ok (I say this because they didn't say anything about where to pick up, where to get water, point out seats, etc) and you serve yourself water. Honestly this is probably the standard service nowadays, but as a mom and pop shop that wants to succeed, this just was disappointing...

Came here for the hype. And it is mainly that. Was shocked to see a single personal tart at 15.00. maybe I am out or touch and don't know current prices but IMO that's at least 5.00 over priced if not more. It was decent but not mine blowing. I expect mind blowing at those prices. We stopped by after dim sum, so towards the end of the day for a bakery, around 230pm and selection was very limited, basically one fig left and a few passion fruit. The passion fruit was nice and tart. Staff were friendly enough. Cute modern interiors.

The inside of the shop is pretty small, with only a few tables available both inside and outside. Because of how popular this place has become, it can be difficult to find a spot to sit, especially during busier times. The decor inside is really nice, though, and I liked that there's a window where you can watch them prepare the tarts. They have a variety of drinks available, although I decided to skip the drinks this time. There's also a water station at the bar where you can grab water yourself, which is a nice convenience. I came mainly for the fruit tarts and was expecting there to be a larger selection, but there were only a handful of flavors available. The individual tart prices also felt a bit steep for their size. Instead, I decided to try the flight, which comes with five different flavors in bite-sized tarts. The flavors were pretty hit or miss for me. The banana was delicious, with a great balance between the fresh banana and cream. The fig was probably my least favorite because it was pretty bland and I didn't get much of the fig flavor. The peach + Earl Grey was a nice combination, with the tea flavor complementing the peach well. The passion fruit was definitely the most unique and my favorite of the flight. Unfortunately, it was also the only flavor that wasn't available in a full-size tart, which was a little disappointing. The best part of the tarts for me was actually the crust. It was perfectly crumbly while still being moist and had a really nice texture. I also liked that the plates the tarts were served on were chilled, which was a small but thoughtful touch. Overall, Pinecone wasn't bad, but I think there are a few areas that could be improved. With some adjustments to the pricing, flavor selection, and overall experience, I could see this becoming a place I'd want to return to. As it stands, though, it feels more like a one-time visit because of the social media hype rather than somewhere I'd go out of my way to revisit.

Finally got to check out the newest pastry shop in the area! It's still pretty busy as of 8/2026, but the line moves pretty quickly. I got the flight tart and was so good!! It's perfect if you like to try everything, but it is quite pricey. I would get the flight to try all the flavors so you know which one to get next time! The coffee pairs well with the tarts, but it isn't anything special. Overall, I would come back for the tarts, but only for a special occasion since it's quite pricey! There a few tables inside and outside, but it's quite tight. I wouldn't come here with a big party since there isn't much seating.

New coffee shop and bakeshop that recently popped up in the SGV! I used to pick up their tarts all the time when they were known as The Hangry Bakery and were doing pop-ups at Yang's Kitchen. I believe the owner's name is Joyce, so I'm really happy to see that she finally has her own storefront now! The tarts here are amazing. They taste great, look beautiful, and they always have some really nice flavor combinations. Today I picked up the Peach Earl Grey Tart and it was so good. The crust itself tasted amazing, and I really liked that the whole tart wasn't overly sweet. They run around $15 each, which does sound kinda pricey for a tart, but honestly the quality is there. I was standing there wanting to order every flavor lol, but I'll save some for next time. They also make larger tarts, which would be perfect if you're planning a party or bringing dessert to a gathering. Super happy to see them grow from doing pop-ups to having their own storefront in Alhambra. Definitely come check them out if you're into tarts. I'll be back to slowly make my way through the rest of the flavors!

This review is just for the coffee because by the time I arrived, all the tarts are gone! I will definitely have to come back and snag myself a whole box if I wake up early enough! Since I was there already, I decided to order two drinks: the Hojicha Latte and the Shady Monkey. The hojicha flavor wasn't really there and my drink tasted more like vanilla. As for the shady monkey, I was very happy to taste the banana. It had a nice, bold flavor without being overpowering. I would order the Shady Monkey again but the Hojicha latte was forgettable. The café itself has a cozy, welcoming feel, and the service was friendly from start to finish. It made for an easy place to slow down and enjoy a cup of coffee. I did not go during their peak hours so I can't speak to how waiting in line is like. For my next visit, I would try to get there first in the morning!

The may be packed but they go down the line so quickly. We tried the passion fruit, early grey peach and berries fruit tart. Every thing tastes true to ingredient. These tarts are definitely tasty. My preference was the early grey peach. It was magical. Had a side of black coffee and it was the perfect balance to the sweetness to the tarts. My only complaint is that the space is too small and proved to be an issue with my stroller. I definitely constantly felt in the way, with many people getting annoyed, but what are you doing to do. I'm sure the lack of space may just be a temporary growing pain. Perhaps it's a a good idea to simply pick up and eat it at home.

I also appreciated that they asked whether he wanted sugar at all rather than assuming a default sweetness level. It was actually his first time having a hojicha latte unsweetened, and he really enjoyed it. The space itself is pretty bare-bones, so I wouldn't necessarily come here for the super aesthetic cafe experience. But it's comfortable and functional - there's a row of bench seating with tables and chairs opposite it. The seats are actually padded, which makes it a nice spot to sit for a chat, or to get some work done. Street parking was plentiful when we went, and I believe there's also a small attached lot. There was also a baker set up on-site when we stopped by. They were selling things like salt bread and sandwiches, so of course we grabbed something to support them. I thought that was such a cute touch and would love to see more local cafes doing little collaborations like this.

The coffee was well-made - it wasn't burnt, overly bitter, or sour, so the extraction seemed solid. However, the flavor felt flat and watered down. It lacked the aroma, body, and rich roasted notes that make a cup memorable. Nothing really stood out, leaving it tasting more diluted than satisfying. Also, I don't think the barista could froth the coffee well. Instead of a nice velvety, dense froth, the froth was a bubbly foam (see photo). Food - 3/5. I visited around 9 a.m., but the pastry selection was surprisingly limited (see photo). The pastries also didn't taste particularly fresh; they had more of the texture and flavor you'd expect from pastries sitting out later in the day rather than freshly baked items you'd hope to find early in the morning. The café has a modern, hip vibe and a warm, inviting atmosphere. It's spacious, with plenty of seating, making it a pleasant place to spend some time. Overall, Smoking Tiger Coffee Lab is a fine neighborhood café if you're looking for a comfortable place to sit and enjoy a coffee. Drink: The drink itself was fine. We opted for the baseline of 100% sweetness, regular ice, and oat milk (regular 2% milk is preferred!). I was surprised to not have tasted much of the banana flavor as I hoped for. Maybe it was the oat milk overpowering the taste. The matcha itself had a light flavor, despite the color, it was not bold but palatable. Price: The Luxurious George was definitely a luxury because it costed around $8. It was excellent! We also ordered Putu Ayu, Chiffon pandan and banana bread. The putu Ayu was outstanding. The chiffon pandan was very fluffy, fragrant and freshly baked. Banana bread was moist and rich in flavor. The staff were very nice. The service was fast. We enjoyed our drinks and desserts. We really had a great time.
