This is a very popular spot serving delicious chowders and lobster sandwiches. When we arrived, the line was pretty long but it was moving quickly. We waited about 10 minutes to get to the ordering station. There were some counter seats available inside the store. The sitting area in front of the store entrance had limited seats and the staff didn't let anyone take any table until they had their food in their hand. There was also a shaded porch, across the store. At the counter, we ordered the clam chowder, seafood chowder, and 2 lobster rolls. The items were pricey, as 4 of them costed over $100. But they prepare the items super quick, we got our food by the time we were done paying. The chowders and lobster rolls were really good. The sandwiches were overflowing with lobster meat. Overall this was a fantastic place for their delicious food but not so organized for overall dining experience.

Got the 4 cup chowder sampler to share with a friend. It was the perfect amount of food for us for a light lunch! ($22ish) The line can get long but moves fast, there's not a whole lot of seating but you can get it to go and then go sit on the benches across the street if it's a nice day. It's order at a counter style but good for a quick little lunch

Small space and long line. If you cannot handle it, don't bother. You cannot get a table unless you have the food in your hand. On the other note, it does move fast because everything is made and ready to go. The clam chowder is not bad. Creamy and flavorful. But nothing that so special or wow me. Lobster roll is great. Full of lobster meat. Butter dripping over it made it even better. Bread was toasted. Good place for quick food. In and out. Everything self service. They will somewhat help you get a table but not always guarantee.

We came here right before the crowd - be prepared for a line! It seems like this spot most people end up taking out. There are limited seats and maybe (?) some seats on the other side of the store, but we were lucky enough for other kind customers to let us share a table with them. - Seared Scallop Chowder (5/5): little chunks of scallop were so sweet and soft- not chewy at all. The sour dough bread soaked up the soup. The lemon and dill really went well with the chowder and it was such a warm and comforting dish! I think this place is worth the hype. Good soup.

We went on a Monday and the service was quick. We ordered the sampler and got to try several different chowders, the original was the best and the rest were pretty good though I think it would depend on personal preference on how they would be ranked. If you do pass by and order the sample you'll definitely want to get the original just to compare to the other options. We also tried to come on a Saturday and the line was extremely long so we opted to wait more towards the end of our trip. Fair warning if you do come on the weekend either come early or be prepared for a long line.

This place is always busy, and for good reason. Outstanding food with quick service and friendly employees. Even when the line is out the door, they move it fast and there is a host getting people seats once they have their food. They didn't let people waiting in line hog up tables which meant everyone was able to sit and eat once they got their food. The Dungeness crab roll was delicious. Perfect ratios of crab with toppings and spices added. Very nicely toasted roll. The smoked salmon chowder was an unexpected standout for me. Just outstanding flavors and textures. Nice and hearty, filling, and warm. It's busy, and you'll likely have to sit outside. But everything was organized, clean, and the staff were always happy to help. This is a must try if you're a tourist or even a local stopping by Pike Place.

We only had a few hours in Seattle and of course we had to visit Pike Place market. But wait! What to eat here that's famous and extraordinary? One kind lady at the booth suggested to go here. It is a cute little shop, with no view or anything fancy. But you will eat the best chowders that you've had in your entire life. We waited in the line and took us about 15 minutes, not bad . We got lucky and found 3 bar stools to sit on and got their samplers . 4 different chowders of our choice . Omg ... we got : New England clam chowder, the crab and oyster chowder, the scallop chowder (with dill and lime ) this was my top favorite :) and of course the smoked salmon chowder (this was a little bit too salty in my opinion but well , it is smoked salmon so beware if you don't like salty) Staff were super friendly. 4 cups of small chowder was so filling and I was not hungry the whole day. I wish I had space to try their lobster roll, hopefully next time :)

We got the 4 x6oz chowder samplers and it came with oyster crackers and sourdough bread. The lineup looked long around lunchtime, but moved pretty quickly. The staff were also super friendly and passed out cards with QR codes so you could look at the menu ahead of time. I was surprised at how delicious the chowders were! Each chowder was packed with toppings like potatoes and clams and full of flavour. They have limited seating but kept it fair by not allowing tables to be held. You need to have your order before you can sit.

SO GOOD. This place is number 1 and busy for a reason... the chowder sampler/flight was a great choice as it came with crackers and a side of bread. Each chowder was so robust, flavorful and rich! I loved each one we had... we had the bisque, New England, Long Island and the crab and oyster chowder. The 36 dollar Dungeness crab roll piqued my interest for a second but the price deterred me... maybe next time.

This was one of the last spots we tried at Pike Place because of course we couldn't leave without some chowder. This location js tiny and we couldn't find a place to sit but there were some tables out side we took out to go order to and ate. We got a bowl of the chowder and it came with some bread which is great! The chowder was pretty tasty and had lots of seafood and it had a really good flavor. Was it the best thing ever? No but it was pretty good!

Absolute fire. Worth the wait! I recommend doing the 8 chowder sample. You get 6oz of each of their delicious chowders, that way you don't have to decide which one to get! It also comes with 4 slices of sourdough and oyster crackers. The line can be long. We toughed it out in the rain, but it wasn't terrible. The inside is quite small but they do have covered outside seating. There's also a back area with a couple tables available and that's where we ate. They've won a bunch of awards, for good reason!

Corner clam chowder spot with very limited seating and long line but very worth the wait! Pretty cozy cafe ambience. The best clam chowder I have ever had and now I cant have clam chowder anywhere else to satisfy my standard. VERY delicious, the best clam chowder. Must have in seattle! Service is pretty fast.

It doesn't get any better than when you have fresh clam chowder from the wharf. We were in Seattle for the weekend and wanted to try the renown Pike Place Chowder. We arrived to Pike Place Chowder on a Sunday afternoon lunch recently. The restaurant is located in bustling Post Alley in the infamous Pike Place Market. Parking is accessible in the various paid parking lots and along the streets. The restaurant can be found in a hidden alleyway close to the large Public Market sign. There are signs that point you to the right direction. You just have to look for a usual line of people and a rope barrier in an alley. It is a small restaurant that has a few small tables and high chairs for dine in. Additional tables and random sitting areas are down the alley. The vibe was fast paced and family friendly. We ordered bowls of New England clam chowder, seared scallop chowder, and the Manhattan chowder. Everything was so delicious and fresh. There was so much clams in my bowl. The chowder soup was flavorful and soothing. The slice of sourdough bread that came with the chowder was the perfect complement. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Pike Place Chowder. The staff were friendly and attentive. Price point was fair. The line went by pretty quick. We will be back to try other chowders next time we are in town.

Pike Place Chowder Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Pike Place Chowder

Is the fish fresh or frozen?

    Fresh!

Are they still requiring proof of vaccination?

    Nope! And no masks either!

Is the clam chowder fishy, as in a strong seafood taste and smell? Are the bits of clam large or small?

The clam chowder is amazing- creamy and thick with huge chunks of clams in every bite. Can't really smell the fishiness. Only smell the cream and potato, maybe a hint of seafood.

Is there gluten free clam chowder?

Yes! They have a couple of gluten free/ vegan chowders on the menu. Right now, they have Manhattan chowder (GF) plus Lime and coconut chowder (GF, Vegan).

Can you get the lobster roll without mayonnaise?

    Yes

Is there any dairy in the Manhattan chowder?

    Yes

Got back to the bay and missing this chowder already. Anyway to get it frozen and flown over?

Yes they ship for $35. Check out their website pikeplacechowder.com/order

I assume the lines are always long on a Sunday. Is Monday a better choice for a shorter wait time? Thanks!

Yes, it's not as busy on the weekdays but the line generally isn't the issue because it moves pretty quickly. It's finding a table to sit at because seats are limited and it's first come, first served seating.

Does the clam chowder have bacon in it? Can't have bacon.

They have several chowder options. I believe some (at least one) do and others don't. Workers are friendly and can help you with bacon free options.

    Adult & childrens menu?

I only saw one menu. You can get cup/small, bowl/ medium or larger. What we did is ordered two bowls and then ordered other stuff at another restaurant and shared the various items that we each picked near the waterfront.

    Gluten free options?

Manhattan and Lime & Coconut chowder are gluten free.

If I come in at 4:50 or 4:55 on a weekday (right before closing), will I still be served? Will I need to get my food to go?

Generally no. They tend to only make enough for that day and run out of most favors before the day ends.

How often do they change their Market Chowder selection?

The change the market chowder every couple of months.

We're taking our dad to his very first visit to SEA and will definitely visit this delicious and popular establishment for my dad to try. My question is..he's disabled so will there be a wheelchair-accessible seating?

Forget hitting the Pike Place market location, and instead go to the second location, which is on the top floor of the air-conditioned shopping mall called Pacific Center, complete with accessible seating, elevators and no line-up.

    Where do you park?

    Market Place Public Parking

What is the best time to visit so there's not such a long wait?

Hi Damaris! The line tends to be shorter right before we open or close, but if you're local, you have an even better option to skip the line. We just introduced our Grab & Go take-out program that allows you to order online and pick up anytime… Read more

    Is there indoor seating?

Yes, but there is more seating outside. You can also take your food & go to a public seating area in the market by making a right at a sign which reads "Sea View Cafe."

Came here 6 PM on a Monday, I had a 5-10 minute wait so guess we got super lucky! I'm not a ramen…read moregirl, so it has to be a damn good ramen to convert me. I ordered a miso ramen and my parents ordered the tonkatsu ramen. As someone from the Bay Area, I was so surprised by the richness of the ramen and it definitely beats some of my usual spots. Each bowl was ~$15 and a smaller bowl, so would definitely advise getting an extra batch of noodles. The chashu is melt in your mouth tender. The broth wasn't very salty or over complicated itself with a burst of spices, but highlighted the simplicity of a good ramen, tasting the long simmer of the pork. franchise chain with good ramen, but abysmal service…read more like many ramen shops, you pencil in what you want on a paper menu. i marked gyoza, extra noodles and a soda, all of which the waiter ignored when he came by. took the paper, made one highlight streak and apparently took my order in under 2 seconds w/o asking for confirmation. i had to sit and wait ~10 minutes before someone came by and asked if i needed something, by then the broth had already cooled before the kaedama. i gave up on asking for gyoza altogether. as someone who gets weekly ramen for years this was by far the worst service i've encountered
