Crazy popular and for good reasons. I'm a full-blown seafood fiend and can eat it morning, noon, and night. If I'm anywhere near the ocean, I'm consuming as much as my stomach will allow. We went for the chowder sampler because every flavor sounded so damn good. Ours came with New England Clam Chowder, Seafood Bisque, Lime & Coconut Chowder, and Smoked Salmon Chowder. It's not cheap at over $30 after tax & tip, and the portions run small (you do get sourdough bread), but these award-winning chowders are so rich, flavorful, and satisfying that I'd happily throw my money at them again and again. Do yourself a favor and order ahead. It saves a ton of time since the main line wraps around the building from open to close. Don't stand in that line and instead look for the much smaller pickup line on the opposite side of the counter. That saved us nearly an hour. OK, love love love the Chowda at Pike Place Chowder. It's a savory bowl when your in the dead of a Seattle cold spell which is most of the year yet a bowl can supercharge your body instantly.. Frank don't mess around with the gourmet options I just get the straight OG style from New England, the white clam chowder. My husband's coworker let us in on the HYPE surrounding Pike Place Chowder and I'm so glad he did! While my hubby was telling me bits and pieces of why we should listen to his pals advice, I have to admit I was wondering "how great can chowder be?" Honestly I was underwhelmed, but my standards (being from New England) may be too high. The menu is chock full of different chowders which you can get in a few sizes, or (as I did) you can opt for a 4- or 8- chowder sampler, each 6 oz. I got the 4 chowders for about $22 which I thought was appropriately priced given that a small is $10. In hindsight, it was way too much food - I overestimated the amount of chowder I would be able to eat. I can't even remember the exact four that I chose but they all honestly tasted pretty similar. I was hoping for more smokiness with the chorizo. The seafood bisque was fine but nothing to write home about. The basic clam chowder was good, but I don't know if it really made an impression as one of the best I've had. On the plus side, the employees were all really nice, and they were generous with bread and oyster crackers. No fuss about giving a cup for water either. Would I return? The Connecticut style crab roll (5 star) was also great and if you gave me this over the lobster version I would not be mad at you. The Bread bowl of Market style chowder was a superior chowder with lobster, crab, and clams mixed into a succulent creamy chowder bisque. The 8-cup Sampler of chowders was definitely the star to me but not everyone of the chowders was a winner. Here is my review worst to best: Lime & Coconut Chowder (2 star) - if you love Indian spice flavors get this. If you want a traditional chowder then avoid this. Manhattan Clam Chowder (3 star) - Tomato base was very flavorful and the clams were abundant. The salt was also abundant and was mid to my taste that day. Crab and Oyster with Chorizo (3 star) - This may have been my taste for the day but I wasn't gelling with the chorizo and oyster flavors and I felt the clam got lost in that battle of flavors. Salmon Chowder (4 star) - Disclaimer: I am not a salmon fan. That being said I really did like this chowder for the most part. Seafood Bisque (4 star) - An Amalgam of seafood flavor that works well together in the creamy bisque. Recommended. Market Chowder (5 star) - This chowder had a great mix of Lobster, crab, and clam. Creamy, well seasoned, and filling. Worth to order if you are getting a smaller sampler. New England Clam Chowder (5 star) - If you need a baseline to judge then you judge for the basic. This was a creamy, clammy, chowder and how you should judge the rest by. Seared Scallop Chowder (5 star) - My personal favorite because the sweet scallop meat that mixed with the Lucious chowder base. It would be my go to if i could eat here regularly. Service: Fast, efficient, and friendly. One of my party pulled a change of preparation audible and the staff ran with it. Cannot complain especially how they have to handle the volume of people coming through. Ambiance: This small restaurant is located in the Pike Place Market side alley area and had indoor and patio seating. We were 2nd in line and were able to get seating in the patio. I ended up ordering online but was lucky to end up finding seating, I ordered the Oregon Bay shrimp roll and the Marketplace chowder. It was so fast and when we sat to eat I was soo happy. The sandwich is a cold sandwich just so everyone knows, it's seasoned really nicely and the there's so much crab and little shrimps I was so happy.
