Porcaria Extraordinaire There's something special about a restaurant that specializes in only one thing: in this case, pig Pigmeu is everything I expected and more Casual and low-key with a diverse menu of pork-centric dishes all held together by rich and savory sauces It's small place and out of the way, but I'm so happy we stopped by I loved the pork sausage, pork head and pork liver and while the pork pudding wasn't quite ready, we did try a delicious sample from the night before Thank you owner for the hospitality! Pasteis de massa tenra da ovo Mercedes ~ Grandma Mercedes soft dough pastries €9 / Croquetes de Pigmeu €7 / Batata com toucinho ~ potato with bacon €9,8 / Enchilido caseiro, Caldo e Nabica ~ homemade sausage with broth €12 / Bifana Porcholna ~ pork sandwich €9,5 / Porco preto - Corte de dia ~ black pig dish of the day, crispy pig skin with pork head, cheek meat / iscas de cebolada ~ liver with onions €11 / pudim de pao da Tia Julia ~ Aunt Julia's bread pudding €6 / Abade de priscos ~ pork pudding €6,5 Pigmeu (Lisbon, Portugal) Dining is indoor only and reservations are available online. Had a very good lunch here with a lovely waiter (may have actually been the owner as I think about it). The burger is incredible. The meat was flavorful and paired well with the spicy mustard. The sauce/gravy on it was rich and delicious and the bun goes perfectly well with it--holds its own with the sauce without falling apart and had a great consistency. I also got the cut of the day which was a sort of loin (I don't recall the specifics) and it was wonderful. Even the cabbage served with it was extraordinary! For dessert we got the pudim abade de priscos which was OUTSTANDING! Rich, sweet, delicious. The consistency was almost like vasoline--I know that's probably not appetizing, but it was creamy in a way that wasn't milk-based but instead fat-based and in that way it was extraordinary.

This place is totally off the beaten path, and quite a walk from metro, but I am really glad we made it as this turned out to be one of my favorite and more memorable food adventure in this trip. While there is no translated menu, the owner Miguel spoke excellent English. Pigmeu's concept is to buy the whole pig and use up all the parts. This reminds diners that what they eat is an animal, not just meat, and also keeps the old tradition of wasting nothing. And I do mean nothing... There are three sections in the food menu. One is Carne - meat. One is Miudezas - odds and ends. Like ear, skin, ovary, penis... Yup, Miguel talked us into trying the last one, labeled as Pica Pau (which means woodpecker as well as a traditional dish made with less racy ingredients) (My bravery in reporting deserves a Yelpie...) When we told him the dish was actually quite delicious, he happily told us that it had taken a bit of perseverance for them to introduce the dish to the customers but it's now one of their popular items. (If you want to know, no it doesn't taste like chicken. It is a bit like pig lung, which Miguel says make sense as they both share the same feature...) We also ordered the more mundane roasted pork Barraida style. They make it weekly every Wednesday, but as it was Thursday and they still had some, we were able to try it. Miguel's family is from Barraida, famous for leitao assado, and they sure know how to make it right. Instead of regular potato chips, they use sweet potato as well as local greens. You may think that Pigmeu only caters to carnivores, but it actually has a section on the menu for vegetables, and it's not just a token service for vegetarians. Pigmeu gets their vegetables through farm share, so instead of ordering their veggies, they get delivered a box of what the farmers grow and create their menu around it. It comes as no surprise that my husband said it's the best cabbage he's eaten. If you like wine, their list is all organic.

We had the chef's tasting menu and totally enjoyed ourselves. (However, half a small tomato doesn't really pass as a course in my book.)

This was our first official meal in Lisbon, a reservation for 9:45 pm dinner on a Wednesday, and it was a great introduction to Portuguese food. The street at the entrance was empty and quiet, and there weren't many people inside, presumably because it was late. Service was excellent, they were very nice, told us to take our time despite our late reservation. Pumpkin soup was the appetizer, and it was delicious. Creamy and hearty but somehow not heavy, with some tomato and meaty flavor that went well with the sweet pumpkin. Comes with some seeds and bread that you can dip the soup with. 5/5 Octopus-comes with some green peppers, quinoa, and a tomato paste/puree that gives it a light, slightly sweet, slightly spicy taste that went very well with the octopus. This is a great summer dish. Interestingly the thin end of the octopus was not that crispy, maybe that was the intention, but the entire tentacle taste and texture was pretty homogenized. 4.5/5 Risotto- also has pumpkin, but more savory with cheese and butter, topped with leek and I belive has mushrooms. Not sure how they're getting away with using heavy ingredients coming together to become a light dish, but they're pulling it off perfectly. Price was also very reasonable. We did get asked about tip, which not all restaurants in Lisbon do, but we felt tip was deserving at this establishment.

Best I've ever had and served it in a creative way. Service was attentive and polite and generous. I wanted to eat there every night but as a tourist I simply couldn't repeat. I wanted to return. I hope they succeed they are special.

The food across the board was excellent--every dish we tried was flavorful, well-prepared, and felt thoughtfully put together. You can tell there's real intention behind both the menu and execution. What really elevated the experience, though, was our waiter, Bernardo. He brought incredible energy to the table--full of personality, engaging, and genuinely fun to interact with. At the same time, his service was top-notch: attentive without being overbearing, helpful with recommendations, and clearly passionate about what he does. Great food is one thing, but when you pair it with service like that, it turns into a memorable experience. Highly recommend--and if you get Bernardo, you're in for a great time.

I had read in Yelp that lines could be long, but we arrived early. They have a little red rope at the door where they explain the rules. The interior is kind of eclectic. They have wines at three price points, we got a really nice bottle of red called Pops reserve. For the tapas, we ordered the assorted cheeses, octopus risotto, duck breast with chips (not normally on the menu), and ceviche. All were superb. We started with the duck and ceviche. The duck was braised perfectly and seasoned well, wonderful. Then the ceviche had swordfish and tuna. I am not normally a sword fan, but this was very tasty. Next up were the cheese and risotto. The risotto was incredible, buttery and delicious. The cheese plate had 5 cheeses of different intensity. All were great, particularly the goat ones. It came with a pumpkin jam which I had never had before, but was very good. I definitely recommend this place
