They had heaters set up and when we were seated they had blankets on the chairs for you to use. Perfect touch! What's stood out about the couvert (bread, butter, olives) is that the butter was a garlic butter. It was so good we had to order extra bread to make sure ate it all. Our cruise ship was docked overnight in Lisbon. Our local tour guide recommended the Praça do Comércio for restaurants near the port, but they were all very touristy. We found this place a few blocks north of the plaza. They seated us (5 people) without a reservation on Saturday night. We sat outside. The service and food were both excellent. They have a large selection of beer, wine, and cocktails with several non-alcoholic drinks, including non-alcoholic wine. We shared a number of starters (fried squid, salmon tartar, banana ceviche). I had the black pig "feathers", which are a specific triangular cut of meat at the top of the loin. Very tasty! For desert we tried the rabanada (like french toast) and the classic Portuguese custard tart. Overall, this is a great restaurant for an authentic Portuguese dinning experience. read more

Putting my pride aside here to say that it was a delicious restaurant! Initially I wanted to dislike it because the owner frequently came to our table to boast about "his" everything. We ordered the beef tartare and the beef was a chunky and grisly and was season with almost like a sriracha mayo. The presentation was the plantains was decent but because the tartare was spread out into 4 bite it was actually a pretty small portion as well. For the entree we had the pork feathers and the pork was grisly as well. In addition the sweet potatoes and broccoli was under seasoned and overcooked and mushy. Stopped in without a reservation on a Friday night and they found an outdoor table for me. The interior of the restaurant is nice and has a cool ambiance to it. Round couches in the windows for seating. Staff goes over the top with quality service and is very attentive. Food is delicious and presented well. Can't say enough good things. OK OK OK we stumbled (literally) upon this gem as we wandered through the streets of Lisbon after an arduous day of sightseeing. Too many touristy places close to the water that made our tummies rumble, so we were happy to find Baixa. A quiet table upstairs away from the bustling street level is just what we needed to enjoy our wine and cocktails. The owner was super attentive to our table and all of our requests. Best restaurant in Lisbon!! We read amazing reviews on yelp, and decided to try Em Alta Na Baixa. It was better than we had imagined. We met the owner Alex, who was so gracious and charming. The food was incredible and so fresh and wonderfully prepared and plated. Alex takes so much pride in his recipes and the incredible quality of his food. We started with the banana ceviche (AMAZING!!!) Then the absolutely delicious risotto and quinoa mango salad. We also had octopus, salmon and sea bass. All excellent! The dessert was the best surprise. Chocolate banana dessert with ice cream! Wow!!! We wine was also great. Beautiful ambiance and outstanding service. We had a great dinner here our first night in Lisbon. We had the house red wine from Alenteja and some bread and olive oil with balsamic vinegar to start. We ordered a green salad ... And octopus with greens ... and penne pasta primavera. The wine was great for a house wine! We had an extra glass. The octopus was perfectly spiced and tender. The penne was well made also.
