Kind of in the tourist area of Lisbon so I wasn't expecting much but what I experienced was really good. It's tucked off in like an alley but they had nice outdoor seating. They had heaters set up and when we were seated they had blankets on the chairs for you to use. Perfect touch! What's stood out about the couvert (bread, butter, olives) is that the butter was a garlic butter. It was so good we had to order extra bread to make sure ate it all. Lots of usual Portuguese seafood options, shrimp , octopus, clams etc. I really enjoyed the seafood pasta, the sauce was super simple and tasty. read more

We first walked in and we wanted to eat inside because it was cold and we wanted to be warm, the lady said no because it was all booked up inside reservations. That was a lie because not a single person was eating inside while we were at the restaurant for 90 MINUTES. It took 80 MINUTES just for the mains to come out even though there was like 5 tables of 2-4 people per table. Food was good the risotto and fish were very good. Outdoor was nice and cozy. Would not recommend coming with kids or big groups and want a a quick dinner read more

Em Alta Na Baixa has wonderful ambiance, great service and good food. It's a nice alternative from all the tourist trap type restaurants in this area of Lisbon. There is indoor and outdoor seating. It was a popular spot, even though it was a Tuesday night. We waited about 25 minutes for our table. I ordered the Pumpkin soup and Vegetable Risotto. Both items were really good. My husband had the fish (sea bass, I believe) and it was rather underwhelming compared to my food. They charge for the still table water, which is served in their own glass bottle. read more

Food was awesome, I got the sea bass filet. The service was excellent shoutout Harprete who was so kinda and funny.

The vibe is cute inside, and service is good, but the food was very meh. We tried several dishes and they were all very mid at best. We went on our last night in Lisbon because of the good reviews but were very disappointed. There are many much better places to get Portuguese and Italian food around. I would skip this if you're in the area, especially if you're a tourist. Not worth it at all... read more

Our cruise ship was docked overnight in Lisbon. Our local tour guide recommended the Praça do Comércio for restaurants near the port, but they were all very touristy. We found this place a few blocks north of the plaza. They seated us (5 people) without a reservation on Saturday night. We sat outside. The service and food were both excellent. They have a large selection of beer, wine, and cocktails with several non-alcoholic drinks, including non-alcoholic wine. We shared a number of starters (fried squid, salmon tartar, banana ceviche). I had the black pig "feathers", which are a specific triangular cut of meat at the top of the loin. Very tasty! For desert we tried the rabanada (like french toast) and the classic Portuguese custard tart. Overall, this is a great restaurant for an authentic Portuguese dinning experience. read more

Putting my pride aside here to say that it was a delicious restaurant! Initially I wanted to dislike it because the owner frequently came to our table to boast about "his" everything. It came off as slightly arrogant and annoying. HOWEVER, the food was tasty, so I cannot complain. We were treated with complimentary champagne upon arrival, and port for dessert. The food was slighly upscale, but the chicken was very tasty. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food! read more

The food was really delicious and the service was excellent! We had a Seabass and a cod confit with turnip greens done in different ways, and both were excellent. The beef tartar appetizer on interestingly shaped plantain chips was absolutely delicious! Tables are a little tippy on the slightly sloping street, but definitely not any kind of dealbreaker! read more

I'm not sure this places deserves more than a 3 star. Honestly besides the ambiance I can't say that the food here was all that great. We ordered the beef tartare and the beef was a chunky and grisly and was season with almost like a sriracha mayo. The presentation was the plantains was decent but because the tartare was spread out into 4 bite it was actually a pretty small portion as well. For the entree we had the pork feathers and the pork was grisly as well. In addition the sweet potatoes and broccoli was under seasoned and overcooked and mushy. Pretty much a tourist trap in my opinion. read more

OK OK OK we stumbled (literally) upon this gem as we wandered through the streets of Lisbon after an arduous day of sightseeing. Too many touristy places close to the water that made our tummies rumble, so we were happy to find Baixa. A quiet table upstairs away from the bustling street level is just what we needed to enjoy our wine and cocktails. The owner was super attentive to our table and all of our requests. The drinks and the food and the dessert were all wonderful. We agreed this place was a highlight of our dining adventures in Lisbon. Hope to make it back sometime in the future. read more

Best restaurant in Lisbon!! We read amazing reviews on yelp, and decided to try Em Alta Na Baixa. It was better than we had imagined. We met the owner Alex, who was so gracious and charming. The food was incredible and so fresh and wonderfully prepared and plated. Alex takes so much pride in his recipes and the incredible quality of his food. We started with the banana ceviche (AMAZING!!!) Then the absolutely delicious risotto and quinoa mango salad. We also had octopus, salmon and sea bass. All excellent! The dessert was the best surprise. Chocolate banana dessert with ice cream! Wow!!! We wine was also great. Beautiful ambiance and outstanding service. It also looks like they have room upstairs for large parties. We are only here for 3 days but we are going back a second time before we leave. We all give it 5 read more

We really enjoyed our dinner at Em Alta Na Baixa. The owner was so welcoming. He thoroughly explained the various dishes. We loved the decadent wagyu burger with the fried egg on top, salmon, moquec de peixe e camarao (Mozambican stew with fish and shrimp) and the bucatini with clams. Everything was delicious. While we opted to sit inside, they had two musicians entertaining the outdoor diners. It was a lovely evening. read more

In a neighborhood full of tourist garbage this restaurant stands out. Stopped in for lunch (their Yelp hours are incorrect). Had shrimp in garlic (best we've had in Portugal) and duck. Paired it with a house made sangria consisting of 100% fresh fruit. Everything was made from scratch. This is a must stop in interior Lisbon. read more

Just finished an amazing meal at 'Em Alta. The owner greeted us, was extremely hospitable and went out of his way to explain how the food at his establishment is sourced and prepared. The meal didn't disappoint. We ordered salmon, duck and octopus. All three were amazing - perfectly prepared, tender and beautifully presented. We ordered desserts and they were wonderful too. We sat outside, enjoying lovely guitar music and soaking in the whole experience. We saw this beautiful restaurant the first night in Lisbon and we decided to give it a try. The space is very well designed, and the service is the best we have had in Lisbon. From the moment Suzana greeted us at the door, to the final glass of porto, everything was perfect. The rest of the staff was lovely. Zoli and Anna were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was OUTSTANDING!!!!! We really enjoyed every dish!!! BRAVO!!! At the end, Suzana was very graceful and delivered a delightful white port to finish our experience. Overall fantastic. A MUST when visiting Lisbon. read more

We had a great dinner here our first night in Lisbon. We had the house red wine from Alenteja and some bread and olive oil with balsamic vinegar to start. We ordered a green salad ... And octopus with greens ... and penne pasta primavera. The wine was great for a house wine! We had an extra glass. The octopus was perfectly spiced and tender. The penne was well made also. For me the highlight was the octopus. Now on to dessert- chocolate delight and apple crumble. Both amazing desserts. We are now properly stuffed and will waddle back to our Airbnb. read more

This restaurant is so good; one of the best we've been to in a long time - the owner is very welcoming and gave us wonderful recommendations. The tuna was to die for, the wine fantastic and the portugese tart the best I've ever had. We will be back, for sure! Thank you Alex! read more

Amazing!!! So many restaurants in Lisbon offer the same old thing. Lots of burgers, fries, Italian and the like. I'm so glad we waited, looked around and were choosy. Unfortunately I did not get the chance to eat at this lovely place, however when walking past the restaurant my father slipped and turned his ankle on the cobblestone. Good stop! It is kind of off the beaten tourist path where menus are shoved in your face showing touristy food aka hamburgers etc. We were sat out side and ordered the house wine. It was very good and 4€. The previous reviewer must not have known that nothing is free, especially when they bring something over to your table. We got the bread and cheese, listed on the menu for €1.50 each. It was tasty, although the bread was a little on the hard side. We just got some shareables. We got two of the shrimp dishes, these were so tasty and the sauce was excellent. It also came with bread. We also ordered the caprese salad that came with a large chunk of mozzarella cheese, very good. Also had the scallops. I would have passed on these if I had known how tiny they were. We only got 3 small scallops for €12. Not worth it. Overall, a nice dinner stop! read more

We walked by their outdoor dining area. It looked to be in a different class than the other places on a nearby street where "food pimps" were hustling people shamelessly to stop at their restaurants. The hostess was very pleasant and, to our surprise we were seated immediately. Everything about the server, dinner, drinks, wine, ambiance, the outdoor lighting as the evening grew dark, was perfect. The four of us ordered a mix of starters, salads and mains. We were ebullient about our experience. A delightful evening. Go there. read more
